In the early 1960s, Troy Gazette-Register ran a series of articles called Mystery Farms. Each week they presented a photo and asked readers to identify the farm. In the following week's issue, they identified the farm and wrote a brief article about it.  Marjorie JORALEMON Oldroyd, now of Austinville, saved them all in a scrapbook which we scanned recently. I will present them here, sorted by township where possible. In some cases the Post Office is the only identifier and it may or may not be accurate as to physical location

File:  tgrfarm0001 - Earl Seeley

Mr. Seeley and his wife, Jennie, have had their farm for over thirty years.  It was in the family about 50 years ago, when grandfather Lewis Packard operated and owned the farm which is about one-third the size of the present Seeley farm, now of 335 acres.  The previous owner over thirty years ago was the Williams estate.

Recent changes on the original farm include the construction of a new home and a garage, built in 1945, which are occupied by Lewis Seeley and his wife Marie Foust Seeley.  Lewis works the farm with his father which is centered around a Holstein herd of dairy cattle.

Unusual history connected with the farm which now is a combined operation of three farms, all adjoining, is that it was one time a tobacco growing area.  Another bit of historical information is that on the site of Earl Seeley’s present home, stood a two-story square-top building that was destroyed by fire about 50 or 60 years ago.

Doris Seeley Ritz, their daughter, lives in Sylvania. All of the Seeleys on the farm are members of the Disciples of Christ Church, Alba.  Earl Seeley is a member of Troy Grange No. 182.  Lewis is a member of the Masonic Lodge, Troy, and a member of the Holstein-Friesian Association of America, Harrisburg.

During 1954 the Seeleys completed 1,500 feet of open ditch and terracing as a part of the soil conservation program.
