Joyce's Search Tip - December 2007 -
 |
Do You Know that you can search just the
600 pages of Tioga County Cemetery Records on the site by using the Cemeteries
-Tioga button in the Partitioned search engine at the bottom of the
Current What's New Page? If
you use that partition follow these steps to search just one cemetery.
1. Choose Cemeteries - Tioga.
2. Enter part of the cemetery name [ie Newbury or Furman] AND a surname.
3. Choose the Find ALL Words option. Then it will find just the pages
with that surname in the one cemetery you indicated. |

The Old Osceola Cemetery and adjoining Fairview
Cemetery
OSCEOLA ,TIOGA COUNTY, PA.
This is from Tioga
County Cemetery Inscriptions, Volume Five, reprinted with permission of Rhoda
ENGLISH Ladd
Located on Route 49 in Osceola Township
The Osceola Cemetery Association has its grounds on an eminence west
of the village and north of the Cowanesque road. The cemetery is enclosed
in a well maintained fence with an ornamental gateway at the entrance inscribed
with the legend "MAN GOETH TO HIS LONG HOME."
The association was incorporated by an order of the Court of Common
Pleas, of Tioga County, April 21st, 1876. Its officers were: Robert Hammond,
president, Charles Tubbs, Secretary, Russel Grandall, Treasurer. The association
owns 220 perches of land, one third of which is occupied by the indiscriminate
and unregulated buried of the past seventy years and the remainder is divided
into symmetrical family burial lots. In the old part of the ground are
many unmarked graves.
For the above information we reference 1883 History of Tioga County,
Penna. The following inscriptions were copied summer of 1973 by Rhoda ENGLISH
Ladd and A. William Ladd, R.D. 3 Box 135, Wellsboro, Tioga County, Pennsylvania,
16901.
Please note: This Cemetery is still in use. The association has purchased
adjoining land so descendants of the pioneers can still bury their beloved
ones here.
I have not alphabetized the burials at the request of Jan Carpenter
who typed all 1500 plus of these burials for us. The advantage of alphabetization
is that you can do a quicker search. The advantage of not alphabetizing is that
you get information about who is buried near whom. If you don't have the
patience to go through all eight pages of this, use the search engine which is
updated every few weeks.
