CORL –MABEL C. ‘TINY’ STRAIT, 75 of Athens died at the Robert Packer Hospital Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005 following a two-year battle with cancer.  Born Feb. 6, 1929 in Marysville, Pa., she was a daughter of J. Morley and Seretta Myers Corl.  She served in the U.S. Air Force from 1946 to 1948.  Tiny enjoyed the sun, flowers and her cats.  She worked throughout the Robert Packer hospital in Sayre for 20 years, including the emergency room.  She is predeceased by her sisters, Sid Scheiderick and Gene Patterson; her brothers, William George and Bobby Cor and a special friend of 35 years, Clarence Lynch.  She is survived by her children, Mrs. Patricia (Arnold) Westervelt of Athens and Robert Strait of Athens; four grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and James Burnett of Pine City, N.Y.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis and Peggy Corl of Sayre and Gordon and Virginia Corl of Sayre and numerous nieces and nephews.  Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home Inc., 225 S. Main St., Athens.  A service of remembrance will follow at 8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. LAURENCE A. DAHL, 54, Penfield, NY died at Strong Memorial Hospital, May 24, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer.  Born in Cobleskill, NY, he was the son of the late George and Jennie Dahl.  Mr. Dahl was a member of the United States Navy; was a graduate of RIT and worked at Eastman Kodak for 30 years.  He was a Boy Scout leader and very active in Troop #113.  Surviving are his loving family; wife, Joan (Meeker) Dahl; son, Eric M. Dahl, Penfield, NY; brother, George (Donna) Dahl, Brockport, NY; sister, Loretta (John) Branche, Batavia, NY; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ivan and Joyce Meeker, Canton; brother-in-law, Jared (Beth) Meeker, Rochester, NY; nephews, nieces and their families, Mark, Shawn, Kimberly and Michelle Dahl, Greg and Jackie Branche, Andrew and Danielle Meeker and many special friends.  The funeral service was held May 28 at the Profetta Funeral home, Webster, NY.  Memorial contributions in his memory may be directed to the Bone Marrow Transplant Program at 601 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester, NY or to Boy Scout Troop #113, c/o the Dahl family, 27 Old Barn Circle, Penfield, NY.  –Canton Independent Sentinel

CHARLES R. ‘BOB’ DARLING of Montrose died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Beverly Health Center in Tunkhannock.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mae M. Gardner.  Born in Mansfield, Pa. on June 22, 1924, he was the son of the late Floyd and Lydia Stevens Darling.  He was a 1942 graduate of Rush High School and was a self employed farmer and contractor.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond Darling and Willard Darling.  He is survived by his son, Roy, of Mehoopany; daughters Connie Richie, of Meshoppen, and Peggy Lyne of Laceyville; brothers, Richard, of Nicholson; Edward, of West Valley, N.Y.; and Gordon; and sister, Ruth Morris of Sayre.  Funeral services where held on Saturday, March 25 from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Meshoppen, Pa.   Interment was held in Retta Cemetery.  –Towanda Daily Review 3/29/2006

DAWICKI –IRENE T. WOODS, 66 of Canton RR3 died peacefully on Monday, April 26, 2004 at her home.  Irene was born April 9, 1938 in Philadelphia.  She was a daughter of the late Walter and Julia (Gross) Dawicki.  On Dec. 23, 1989 she married Homer “Buckshot” Woods.  Irene owned and operated the Woods’ Greenhouse at their residence at Canton Lake.  She was a gifted gardener and shared her floral knowledge by writing the article “Garden Dreams” for the Canton Independent Sentinel newspaper.  She also volunteered her time by planting the flower circle near the entrance of the Canton Fairgrounds for many years.  Mrs. Woods was a member of the Canton Garden Club.  She also enjoyed cross-stitching and sewing.  In addition to Homer, her husband of 14 years, surviving are, seven children; Michelle Schilero of Freehold, N.J., Michele Morgan, Stephen (Bonnie) Barats and Walter Woods, all of Canton, Irene (Donald) Payne of Bellevue, Neb., Paul Woods of Toms River, N.J. and Miriam (Shane) Gaghan of Philadelphia; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers, Mary Ann Hermann of Hatboro, Pa., Julia Lukin of Doylestown, Pa., Francis (Anna) Dawicki of Pennedel, Pa., Terese (David) Hankins of Newportville, Pa. and David Dawicki of Morrisville, Pa.; a best friends, Raymond Mason of Oklahoma City, Okla. and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Woods was predeceased by a brother, Robert Dawicki in 1999.  In keeping with Irene’s wishes, services and a celebration of her life will be private.  In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials in Mrs. Woods’ name to the Guthrie Hospice, RR1, Box 154, Towanda, Pa.  Arrangements are in care of Pepper Funeral Home, Canton.  –Towanda Daily Review

DECKER –MRS. JANET CANFIELD age 63 of RR 2, Box 2, Laceyville, Pa., formerly of Church Street, Meshoppen, Pa. died at her home on North Flat on Sunday morning, Oct. 2, 2005 after an illness.  Janet was born in Laceyville on June 12, 1942, the daughter of the late Gerald and Alice Pickett Decker.  Janet was a graduate of the Elk Lake High School class of 1960.  She was a member of the Meshoppen United Methodist Church, the South Auburn Grange No. 1188 and the South Auburn Birthday Club, and for many years she was a member of the Meshoppen Borough Election Board.  Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Tracey L. Canfield, two sons and their wives, Jeff and Yvonne Canfield of Tunkhannock, Pa., and Tim and Tracy Canfield of Meshoppen; a daughter, Tracy Lynn McCarey of Elk Lake, Pa.; a brother and his wife, Jerry and Elaine Decker of Lemon, Pa.; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Meshoppen, with the Rev. JEROME F. DECKER age 55 of Lopez died on Sunday, May 15, 2005 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre.  Jerry was born March 13, 1950, a son of Rose Manchise Decker and the late Frank Decker.  He graduated from Sullivan County High School, a member of the class of 1969. He attended Williamsport Area Community College, where he learned the craft of auto body work.  He worked as a mechanic for PennDOT in Laporte for 35 years, retiring June 30, 2003, and was honored for not taking a sick day for 25 years.  He was loved by all who knew him.  Jerry was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, and was a member of the White Ash Land Association and the Lopez Civic Association.  Surviving are his mother, Rose Decker of Lopez; his aunts and spouses, Helen Moss of Shickshinny, Pa., Katherine Kernof of Hughesville, Pa., Thomasina Setzer of Silver Spring, Md., and Frances and George Kellerman of Bethany Beach, Del.; and numerous cousins.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, with the Rev. Bert S. Kozen, his pastor, presiding. Interment will be in SS Peter & Paul's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Lopez.  Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the P. ROBERT WILLIAM DEWERT, 57, Lindley, NY died March 3, 2002.  He was employed by Dresser-Rand for 27 years as a machinist.  Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Donna DeWert; daughter, Crystal McCannon, Beaver Dams; sons Robert DeWert, Campbell and Daniel DeWert, Elmira; sisters, Phyllis Gardner, Elizabeth Rosenblatt, Joan Lovell, Carol Shaut, Susan Harsberger, Deborah Harndon and Pamela DeWert; brothers, Francis DeWert, Kenneth DeWert, Douglas DeWert, Lawrence DeWert, Canton, John DeWert, Thomas DeWeert, Ralph DeWert, Charles DeWert, Brian DeWert and Dale DeWert.  The funeral will be held March 7 beginning at 11 a.m. from the Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney Street, Corning, NY with the Rev. DUNN –BRENDA S. WILSON, 53, of Briggs Hill Road died unexpectedly late Saturday evening, Oct. 15, 2005.  She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 35 years David J. Wilson; her daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and David Merrill of Rome, Pa., Deborah and Jon Thorpe of Bainbridge, N.Y., and Christy and David Olmstead of Rome, Pa.; her special grandchildren, Mason, Cale, Evan, Darcie and Chelsea; eleven brothers and sisters; several aunts, uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and her faithful canine companion, "Misty."  Brenda was predeceased by her parents, Clay Dunn Jr. and Ellen (Potter) Dunn, and brother, David Dunn.  Brenda was born on Feb. 25, 1952 in Towanda, Pa., and was a graduate of Towanda High School, Class of 1970.  Shortly following graduation, she married the love of her life and best friend David J. Wilson.  Brenda was employed as a customer service representative for the Johnson City Publishing Company.  She and David enjoyed traveling on their motorcycle, spending time with their children, grandchildren and cooking for her family.  Brenda had so many friends and touched so many lives.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services and a celebration of Brenda's life on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. ECKMAN –BENA (ECKMAN) BURR, 78, life-long resident of Canton died Tuesday evening, November 6, 2007 at the Troy Community Hospital.  Bena Mae Eckman was born on October 16, 1929 in Canton and was one of six children in the family of the late Charles and Lois (Fields) Eckman.  She graduated with the Canton High School class of 1948.  Bena worked as a waitress for most of her life.  She was employed by the Wheel Inn Club in Roaring Branch and the former Our House Restaurant in Grover for many years.  Most recently, she worked at the Canton Pharmacy.  A supportive and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Bena’s family meant the world to her.  Bena cherished the times spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved to watch her great-grandsons play sports.  She possessed a great sense of humor and had her own wonderful and unique wit.  Bena enjoyed doing many things in life and especially loved family get-togethers, playing bingo and shopping trips.  Surviving are two children, Denny (Susie) Burr, Canton and Myra Burr, Troy; grandchildren; Dustin Burr and Jenniver Burr both of Canton and Jessica Cummings (Shane Case), Troy; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Justin Cummings and Madyson Case; sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Orin Finogle, Canton; special nieces, Bena Ray Clark, Troy and Franny Kosmer, Rochester; many nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was predeceased by a sister and three brothers, Gladys Kosmer, Lewis, Charles “Chuck” and William “Swede” Eckman; her long-time friend and companion, Walter Burbage.  Friends may call 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday at the Ecumenical Church in Canton.  A memorial service in honor of her life will follow the Rev. RICHARD LEE FENNELL, 63, Phoenix, AZ died December 19, 2007.  Born in Canton, PA he moved to Phoenix in 1969.  Known by his friends as “Plumber Dick,” he was in the plumbing trade for 40 years.  He was noted for being big hearted and very patriotic.  He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion, VFW and the Moose.  He enjoyed spending time on the Rim, gardening, being with his friends and dogs.  Dick touched many lives and will be deeply missed.  Surviving are his loving companion, Bonnie; son, Robert; brothers, A.J., Patrick and Tom; sisters, Marie, Phyllis, Shirley, Patricia and Peggy; many nieces and nephews.  A memorial service was held December 27 at the VA National Cemetery, Phoenix, AZ.  –Canton Independent Sentinel

DENNIS J. FITZGERALD, 75, of South Street, Avoca, Pa., formerly of Dushore, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005 in the Hospice Unit of Mercy Hospital, in Scranton, Pa.  Born in Dushore on April 25, 1929, he was a son of the late John and Julia (Ryan) Fitzgerald and was a 1947 graduate of St. Basil's High School, Dushore.  He served as a staff sergeant in the Air Force during the Korean War.  He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Avoca, and American Legion Post 607, Avoca.  Prior to retiring in 1991, he was employed by the Genalite Foam Corp., Scranton, Pa. as a traffic manager.  In addition to his parents, a brother, Francis, preceded him in death.  Surviving are his wife of 50 years, the former June M. Maynard; a son, Barry J. (Millie) of Lake Ariel, Pa.; daughters Denise M. (Jim) Ruggiero of Scranton, Pa., Kathleen (Donald) Hudzinski of Pittston Township, Pa., Theresa A. (Atty. Jerry) Langan of Pittston, Pa., and Maria Fitzgerald of Scranton; seven grandchildren; sisters Mary Dieffenbach of Dushore and Jane Plastow of Williamsport, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.  The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home Inc., 728 Main St., Avoca, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Avoca, with the Rev. JOSEPH THOMAS GRIFFIN age 68 of Dushore, Pa. died on Friday, Sept. 16, 2005 at the Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa.  Joe was born in Philadelphia, on May 27, 1937, son of the late Joseph G. and Beatrice Bevan Griffin.  He graduated from St. John the Baptist High School in Manayunk and served in the Korean War.  He retired from the Simpson Paper Co. of Philadelphia in 1995 after 35 years of service.  He married the former Estelle A. McKim of Philadelphia, on Sept. 23, 1989.  Joe and Estelle also were foster parents for Best Nest Inc. for several years.  Joe was a loving spouse, father, grandfather and step-father.  He really enjoyed living in the mountains of Sullivan County.  He and Estelle retired to Cherry Township in 1995.  He most enjoyed playing pool with his friends at the Dushore Hotel.  Joe was a member of St. Basil's Church, Dushore.  Surviving are: his spouse, Estelle, at home; three daughter, Kathy A. Weisenfluh of Lake Ariel, Pa., Jayne B. Zeranski of Dover, Del. and Laura A. Griffin of Philadelphia; five step-children, Brian C. Pacell of Americas, Ga., William J. Ravert Jr. of Dushore, Kelly A. Ravert of Philadelphia, Diane L. Ravert of Elmira, N.Y., and Christina M. Ravert of Dushore and 10 grandchildren.  The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore.  Interment will be in St. Basil's Cemetery, Dushore.  Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Graveside military services will be accorded by Loyalsock Post No. 996 American Legion at St. Basil's Cemetery.  Members are asked to assemble and pass in review at 9:55 a.m. Wednesday morning at the funeral home.  –Towanda Daily Review

SERGEANT FIRST CLAS (RET.) CARL SAN HARRIS of Enterprise died Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at the family residence following an eight-year battle with multiple myeloma.  He was 61.  Mr. Harris was born April 12, 1945 in Towanda, Pa. to the late Robert E. Harris and AnnaBelle Sheddon Harris.  He served in the United States army for 20 years, retiring from his station at Ft. Rucker.  He met his wife, Cindy, in 1985 while she was training him as a replacement on her paper route.  They were married on December 19, 1991.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loving Lake Eufaula, and taught Cindy how to hunt and fish.  While serving in the military, he received numerous awards including the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 bronze stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Senior Aircraft Crewman Badge, the Good Conduct Medal (6 awards), Army Commendation Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Overseas Service Ribbon and Marksman (rifle) award.  Survivors include his wife, Cindy, of Enterprise; his mother, AnnaBelle Harris, of Towanda, Pa.; one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy K. and Scott Bell of Carthage, N.Y.; one sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Mike Conning of Towanda, Pa.; three grandchildren, Amber, Nicholas and Kevin Bell of Carthage, N.Y.  Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 24 at the Patterson-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel of Enterprise, Ala. HOTTENSTEIN –NETTIE D. YONKIN, 87 of Dushore died March 15, 2005 at Memorial Hospital, Towanda.  She was born on January 26, 1918 in Cherry Mills, Dushore, a daughter of Hallie E. and Nellie VanHorn Stahl Hottenstein.  She went to school at a one room school for eight grades, the Bernice High School for three years and then to the New Albany Vocational High School one year to graduate.  She was married to Morgan H. Yonkin on May2, 1941 in the Reformed Church Parsonage, Dushore by Rev. Clement B. Meyers.  Prior to her retirement she was employed at Weldon’s Pajama Factory, Dushore Lingerie and Sull-Craft in Dushore.  She then worked for the Area Agency on Aging for the tourist information booth at the rest stop in Laporte.  She was a member of Redeemer United Church of Christ, Dushore.  Nettie enjoyed time spent quilting, embroidering, crocheting and making quilted pillow tops.  Surviving are four children, Joan (Raymond) Koschak, Henry Yonkin, Raymond Yonkin and Jerry (Margorite) Yonkin; a sister, Evelyn Yonkin; two brothers, Leland and Chauncey Hottenstein; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Morgan H. Yonkin, a sister, Annie, a brother-in-law, Robert Yonkin, a sister-in-law, Marjorie Hottenstein and good friend, Michael Malloy.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2005 at 1 p.m. in Redeemer United Church of Christ with the Rev. Robert W. Martin presiding.  Interment will be in Peace Cemetery.  Friends and family may call at the Russell P. RONALD PAUL HUNSINGER, SR. age 60 of Orwell Township died in the early morning on June 26, 2005 at his home.  He was born on June 28, 1944 in Sayre, Pa., a son of the late Gladys Wright.  Ronald lived in Canton for many years.  He was a member of the Canton Moose.  He enjoyed time spent coon hunting.  He had worked on many area farms.  He was a former employee of Schrader-Bellows in Canton for 30 years, and was former union president; and in his earlier years had driven a Coke truck in Topeka, Kansas.  He is survived by his wife: Ruth Rutty Hunsinger, at home; by his children: Ronald and Lynda Hunsinger, Jr., of Silvara, Myron Hunsinger, of Meshoppen, Ronda Everett, of Canton; a stepdaughter: Janet and Max Webster, of Arkansas; his step children: Ronda Rinebold of Rome, Travis Rinebold of Rome, Tess Hunsinger of Troy; by his brothers and sisters: Russell and Dorothy Hunsinger, of Stevensville, Louise and John Evans, of Rome, Lida and Richard Shaffer, of Wyalusing, Kathy and John Blair, of Rome; 22 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, aunt, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by his faithful pet companion, Art.  He was preceded in death by his mother: Gladys Wright, October 1997, his stepfather: Kenneth Wright, May 1982; his wife: Winona Hunsinger, June 1990; his grandson: David Ayres, January 1990; his niece: Wanda Shaffer, January 2004; a stepson: Richard Rinebold, October 1994; a brother, Cecil Hunsinger, May 1995.  Friends and family are invited to a covered dish Fellowship Dinner and Time of Remembrance from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at the LeRaysville Community Hall.  Arrangements were entrusted to the McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church Street, Wyalusing, Pa.  –Towanda Daily Review

FRANKLIN B. INNES of New Milford Township, Susquehanna County died at Towanda Memorial Hospital on June 19, 1992 after an illness.  He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Ruth Robinson Innes on March 4, 1992.  He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Franklin and Susan Innes, Towanda and by his grandchildren, Wilhelmina, Samuel and Marguerite.  Born in Wilkes-Barre on Nov. 26, 1913 he was the only child of Franklin W. and Faith Bullard Innes.  Mr. Innes graduated as a day student from Wyoming Seminary in 1931 and enjoyed his 60th class reunion there last May.  He had worked for the First National Bank of Wilkes-Barre and retired from the Bendix Corporation in South Montrose in 1964.  Descended from the Corbett, Leach and Bullard families, all early settlers of Susquehanna County, Innes was interested in local history.  He has served as treasurer of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in New Milford, where a memorial worship service will be celebrated at noon on Saturday, June 27.  A luncheon for family and friends will be served immediately following at the Green Gables Restaurant.  Instead of food or flowers, the Innes family requests that memorial contributions be directed to: St. Mark’s Church, New Milford, Pa., to the Susquehanna County Historical Society and Free Library Association, Montrose, Pa. or to the Wyoming Seminary, Kingston, Pa.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, Towanda.  –Towanda Daily Review

DONALD RAY ‘DUKE’ JENNINGS of 521 Clark St., Waverly, N.Y. died suddenly on June 20, 2004.  He was born Oct. 25, 1946 in Waverly, N.Y., the son of Donald E. and Marian Relyea Jennings.  He was a loving husband and father.  Duke served in the U.S. Navy as an engine man from 1966 to 1970 and was presented the last flag of the USS Cheboygan.  He also served on the USS Guadalcanal.  He was employed by Seneca Beverage for nine years.  Donald was a very avid race fan and classic car lover.  He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 1490 of Waverly and the B.P.O.E. No. 1148 of Sayre and a social member of the Waverly VFW.  He was survived by his loving wife, Judy Frachke Shamot Jennings; children, Michelle J. and Wiley Congdon of Waverly, Michael j. Jennings of Spring Lake, N.C. and Stephen D. JENNINGS –SANDRA J. GLOSENGER of Richmond, Va., formerly of Towanda died on July 31, 1996 of an extended illness.  Born April 5, 1948, Sandy, as she was referred to by her friends and family, spent all of life within the Bradford county area.  Sandy graduated from Towanda High School in 1965.  She attended and graduated from the Ridley Lowell School of Business, Binghamton, N.Y. with a degree in business in 1967.  Her working career started at the DuPont Towanda site in 1969.  During her career at DuPont Towanda, she worked in the purchasing department and film finishing operations department as a clerical administrator, then progressed to the position of administrative assistant to the plant manager.  While at DuPont she was a member of the DuPont Employees Recreational Association (DERA) and held the position of secretary for the DERA in 1974 and 1975.  In 1994, Sandy left DuPont and the Towanda area and moved to Richmond, Va.  She resumed her career with DuPont at the Spruance Site in Richmond until her death.  Sandy had 25 dedicated years with DuPont.  Sandy had a wide circle of friends within the Towanda area, as well as the Richmond, Va. area.  Sandy enjoyed gardening, golfing and bowling.  She especially enjoyed the time she spent at her summer home at Yaupon Beach, N.C. with her family and many friends.  Sandy was a board member of the Solo/Discovery Social Club of Richmond, Va.  She is survived by her brother, Robert Jennings of Richmond, Va.; two nephews, Charles and Jonathan Jennings of Richmond, Va.; a niece, Abbegail Jennings of Hilton Head, S.C.; a stepbrother, Rex Eastabrook of Towanda and a stepsister, Shirley Marcusso of Mansfield, Pa.; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.  Sandy was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Miller Jennings in 1990 and her father, Charles Jennings in 1991.  Sandy was formerly married to Kenneth Glosenger of Athens.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 17, 1996 at 2 p.m. at the Rome Presbyterian Church in Rome.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.  –Towanda Daily Review

JOHNSON –LORETTA L. HOLCOMBE, known to her grandchildren as Mo-Mo of Williamsport died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004 after a brief illness.  Born March 1, 1920 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of William E. and Thaisse Deschamp Johnson.  She was the widow of Edward R. Holcombe Jr. who preceded her in death in 1984.  They had been married for 30 years.  Loretta was formerly employed by GTE Sylvania where she had retired after 20 years of service.  She was the founder, historian and 1979 inductee into the Williamsport Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame, spending years bowling in various leagues and winning many awards and trophies.  She was the Fan Club President for the Wesley Parker Band and for the Don Farnsworth’s Country Gold Band and she loved to dance and socialize.  She was a former volunteer at Leader and Valley View Nursing Homes and enjoyed playing bingo at Lady of Our Lourdes in Montoursville.  She also loved to dog-sit her favorite dog, Madison and taking naps with her cat, Chicken Baby.  Surviving are her daughter, Virginia D. (Long) Willits and her husband, Larry A. Willits Sr. of Marsh Hill; three sisters, Virginia Grimes of Trout Run, Rita Ofeldt of Winter Springs, Fla., Kitty (Chet) Kahle of South Williamsport; one brother, Roy Johnson of Williamsport; four grandchildren, Kim Rhone of Williamsport, Ginny (Jim) Forestal of Montoursville, Larry Willits Jr. of South Williamsport and Kelli (Tom) Hornsby of Montgomery, Texas; nine great-grandchildren, Rick Sechler, Gina Livermore, Patrick, Chrissy and Nathan Dowling, Autumn and Stevie Forestal, Amanda Rounsavall, Johnny Saladino and many nieces, nephews and friends.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Thaisse McClure; four brothers, Woodrow, Bill, Frank and Harold Johnson; granddaughter, Karen Rounsavall and great-grandson, Michael Sechler.  Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave.  Officiating will be Pastor Craig Zimmerman.  Interment in the Steam Valley Cemetery.  Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to the SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA.  To all those who knew and loved her, for her to you, “Have a nice forever.”  -Williamsport Sun-Gazette

KEELER –CAROLYN K. LITTLE – A memorial service was Monday for Carolyn K. Little, 85 of Laporte who died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998 at Muncy Valley Hospital.  Her husband, Edward S. Little died Oct. 15.  She was a member of Laporte United Methodist Church.  A homemaker, she enjoyed reading, gardening and quilting.  Born Feb. 2, 1913 in Nordmont, she was a daughter of Frederick R. and Susan Peterman Keeler.  Surviving are four sons, Richard F. of Danville, William E. of DuBois, David L. of Millville and Lewis A. of Pittsburgh; two daughters, Judith A. Swinehart of Jersey Shore and Sara Jane Knipe of Liberty; a sister, Bessie Beck of Pennsdale; 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 28 nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by six sisters and three brothers.  The service was in the church with the Rev. Robert W. Brown, her pastor officiating.

LAWRENCE KELLEY JR. age 60 of Dushore died on Tuesday afternoon, May27, 1993 at his home.  He was born in Sayre on March 19, 1933, son of the late Lawrence and Mary Bulick Kelley of Durell.  Lawrence married the former Helen M. Farrell on May 24, 1952.  He was employed by Dolly Madison Industries from 1951 to 1974.  He was self-employed, selling recreational vehicle campers from 1974 to 1979.  He was employed by DBS Transportation Co. of Harrisburg from 1979 until it closed in 1991.  Surviving are his spouse; Helen at home; three sons: William G. at home and Patrick T. and Michael L., twins of Dushore; a daughter, Mrs. Kathy M. Phillips of Muncy Valley, Pa.; a brother, Morgan Kelley of Slatington, Pa.; three sisters: Mrs. Loretta Gallow of Lockwood, N.Y., Mrs. Jane Spencer of Sayre and Mrs. Alice Walmsley of Bentley Creek; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  The funeral service will be held on Saturday morning, May 1, 1993 at 9 a.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Basil’s Catholic Church, Dushore with the Very Rev. Patrick J. KELLEY –LORETTA J. GALLOW AGE 62 OF 69 Church St., Lockwood, N.Y. died unexpectedly Friday, May 5, 2000 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.  Born Dec. 16, 1937 in Towanda, Pa. she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary Bullock Kelley.  She had retired from Borg-Warner in Ithaca, N.Y. after 27 years of service.  She was an avid NASCAR fan and participated in the Powder Puff Division in the late 1950s and 1960s.  She enjoyed country music.  She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Nancy Hall of Lowman, N.Y.; a daughter and son-in-law, Rayna and Gene King of Ithaca, N.Y.; a brother and sister-in-law, Morgan and Audrey Kelley of Allentown, Pa.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Alice and George Walmsley of Bentley Creek, Pa. and Jane Spencer of Sayre, Pa.; four grandchildren, Junelle King, Mitchell Hall, Bryanna King and Alyssa Hall; several nices, nephews and Ellen McClain and Carol Pitcher.  She was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Kelley and a sister-in-law, Helen Kelley.  A memorial service will be held at the Luckner Funeral Home, 449 Park Ave., Waverly, N.Y. on Wednesday, May 10 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. KENNEDY –JOSEPHINE (KENNEDY) HALL, age 91 of Troy, Pa. died on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at the Troy Hospital in Troy.   Her husband, T. Victor Hall, died on Dec. 16, 2004.   Josephine was born on Oct. 9, 1913 in Danville, Pa., the daughter of the late Walter and Rosella (Curtis) Kennedy.  Josephine was a Visual Aid Instructor at West Chester State University.  She was a member of the West Burlington United Methodist Church, she enjoyed oil painting, entering them in many shows, and many of the shows were in Wisconsin.  Josephine is survived by her daughter, Loraine, wife of Bruce A. Andrien Sr.; a son, Thomas V. Hall of Mechanicsville, Iowa; grandchildren, Denise McNeal, Bruce Andrien Jr., Lorin Andrien, Evan Hall, Margaret Hall and Sylvia Hall; and nine great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents and her husband, T. Victor, Josephine was preceded in death by a brother, Osmund "Jack" Kennedy, in 1956. KING –CLARA K. MILLER – Word has been received that Clara KI. Miller, the sister and sister-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse E. King died on February 3, 1981 at the age of 84 years.  She was the daughter of Thomas and Eliza Jane Brent King.  Funeral was held February 6 at the Hoggard and Sons Chapel, Arkansas.  Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery, Rector, Arkansas.  Her brother, Jesse of Wysox has lived in Bradford County for 44 years and is a retired GTE Sylvania employee.  –Towanda Daily Review

KINSLEY –GENEVIEVE K. SCHAEFER of Dushore RR 2 died on Monday, May 30, 2005 at Memorial Hospital of Towanda.  Genevieve was born on March 27, 1918, a daughter of the late Arthur O. and Millie Mae Yonkin Kinsley of Dushore.  She was married to the late Harvey A. Schaefer, who preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1999.  She was a lifetime resident of the Dushore area.  On March 27, 1939 she married her late husband, Harvey.  Genevieve worked for many years at the SullCraft silk mill in Dushore.  She loved spending time with her family, cooking and sewing, and she and Harvey especially enjoyed traveling.  Genevieve is survived by four children and their spouses, Betty and Al Kurtin of Dushore, Robert and Irene Schaefer of Dushore, Barbara and Fred Ruddock of Summerville, S.C., and Paul and Barbara Schaefer of Dushore; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Geraldine Sweeney; and two brothers, John and Ford Kinsley.  A graveside memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 3, at the Colley Cemetery, with the Rev. JAMES STEVEN KITHCART, 45 a resident of both, the Nolanville, Texas and Belton, Texas, communities for three years, died June 3, 2005.  He was born Jan. 30, 1960, and grew up in Towanda.  He served in the Army seven years, reaching the rank of sergeant.  He earned the Professional Development Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal and Overseas Service Ribbon.  He worked 1 ½ years for Economy Transmission, in Killeen, Texas.  James belonged to the Isaiah 40:31 Biker Church.  Surviving are his soulmate, Regina Goodman, and her children, Alisha Goodman and Brady Goodman; his daughters, Jennifer Lynn Kithcart and Christy Marie Kithcart, both of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; his mother, Shirley Lattimer of Nolanville; his brothers, David Kithcart and wife Annie of Nolanville, Larry Kithcart and wife April of Towanda, and Truman Kithcart Jr. and wife Teresa of Ft. Lewis, Wash.; his sisters, Diane Bailey and husband Cecil of Wyalusing, Karen Hichock and Roger of Rome, Lorie Gill of Rome, and Shirley Faye Williams and David of Nolanville; a granddaughter, Alycia Lispi of Wilkes-Barre and a grandson, Jeremy Kithcart of Wilkes-Barre.  He was preceded in death by his father, Truman Kithcart Sr.; sister, Pamela Jean Kithcart; granddaughter Hailey Ann Jones; and stepfather, Gerald Lattimer.  Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 8 at Killeen Memorial Funeral Home.  The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, at the Nolanville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. GARY L. KOBBE age 29 of New Albany died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005 as a result of a motor-vehicle accident.  He was born on Sept. 14, 1975, in Towanda, Pa., a son of Lemont and Cindy Ross Kobbe.  Gary had been employed by Formula One Feeds of New Era for six years.  In November 2001, he married Leilani Charland in the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, in Dushore.  Gary enjoyed NASCAR racing, and was a Jeff Gordon fan.  He leaves surviving his wife, Leilani Kobbe, at home; his mother and companion, Cindy Kobbe and Larry Epler of New Albany; his father, Lemont "Pat" Kobbe of New Albany; his paternal grandmother, Gertrude Kobbe of New Albany; his maternal grandparents, Ward and Margaret Ross of Herrickville; his mother-in-law and husband, Katrina and Stephen Sysock of New Albany; his father-in-law and wife, Michael and Patty Browning of Dushore; his brothers-in-law, Brandon Sysock, Chris Sysock and Matthew Browning; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his grandfather Larue "Tom" Kobbe; by three uncles, Larue Kobbe, John Ross and Fred Sutton; and by a cousin, Kevin Sutton.  Funeral and committal services will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, in the Russell P. DANIEL COLE KRAVITZ age 43 of Dushore, Pa. died on Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at the Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa.  Danny was born in Pittsburgh, where his dad, Daniel Kravitz was a catcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 19, 1959.  He was the son of Daniel & Mary Jane Cole Kravitz.  He graduated from the Sullivan County High School, a member of the class of 1977, where he played baseball and soccer.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed bow hunting, ice fishing and four-wheeling with his sons.  His love of nature and his love of his family and friends started at an early age.  Danny was employed by E. I. DuPont de Nemours in Towanda, Pa. for over 20 years.  He was also very involved in playing various softball leagues in the Bradford-Sullivan County areas.  Danny was a member of St. Valdimir’s Orthodox Church in Lopez, Pa. and a member of the White Ash Land Association.  He is survived by: three sons, Nicholas Kravitz, Tyler Kravitz and Darren Kravitz; a girlfriend, Amanda Martin and her children, Cameron, Calla and Cassie; parents, Danny & Mary Jane Kravitz of Dushore, Pa.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pamela and Ron Arthur of Muncy Valley, Pa. and Lisa and Scott Miller of Kingston, Pa.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and a nephew, Tanner Arthur.  Burial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. at the P. KRIEL –ANNA K. BORICK, 90, of Dushore, died July 11 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College, Pa.  She was born on November 27, 1915, a daughter of Harry and Justina Comara Kriel.  She married Walter Borick on June 18, 1938.  He preceded her in death in 1978.  Together they managed a lingerie manufacturing operation in Dushore for many years.  She is survived by her son, Dr Ronald Borick of Elk Grove and her daughter, Beverly Harader, of Eagles Mere and Bellefonte. Also surviving are her four grandchildren, Dr. Steven Borick, Matthew Borick, Esq., Tracey and Jack Galloway and Dr. Kelly D'Orazio; five great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.  She is also survived by her brother, John Kriel and wife, Julia of Dallas, Pa. her sister Nettie Jaworski and husband Frank of Silver Spring, MD, as well as sister-in-laws, Ruth Kriel of Elmira, N.Y. and Helen Kriel of White Haven, Pa.  She was predeceased by brothers, Michael, Peter and Steve and by one sister, Mary Hurray.  Burial services will be held on Saturday, July 15 2006 at 12 noon at St. Vladimir's Orthodox Church, Lopez, Pa. with Hieromonk, Michael Their, her pastor, officiating. LAFRANCE –MRS. MARJORIE L. BROTZMAN age 90 of 391 E. Main St., Laceyville, died at the Wyalusing Personal Care Home, in Wyalusing early Tuesday morning, June 7, 2005.  Mrs. Brotzman was born in Laceyville, on Feb. 20, 1915, the daughter of the late Ellis and Jennie Snover LaFrance.  She was the wife of the late Robert E. Brotzman, who died on April 14, 1987.  She was a graduate of the Laceyville High School, Class of 1932, and she later graduated from Mansfield University.  For many years, Mrs. Brotzman was a teacher at the Wyalusing Valley High School, teaching English and Pennsylvania history.  She retired from teaching in 1974.  A member of the Braintrim Baptist Church, she was also a past Ladies Sunday School teacher, and an adviser of the church's Awana Club.  Surviving are two sons and their wives, the Rev. Ellis and Ruth Brotzman of Badhoevedorp, Netherlands, and Retired Col. Robert and Ann Brotzman of Bury St. Edmonds, England.  Also she has surviving four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Miss Mildred LaFrance, who died in 1983, and Mrs. Vera Clapper, who died in 1984.  Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 10, at the Lacey Street Cemetery, in Laceyville, with Rev. Thomas Davis of the Braintrim Baptist Church officiating. (MERRICK) SNELL, 73 of New Columbia and formerly of Williamsport, died on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at the Manor Care Health Services, Williamsport.  Minnie was born on April 9, 1934 in Leroy Twp., Bradford County and was a daughter of the late Luther J. and Ruth (Crofut) Merrick.  She was a former employee of the Williamsport Hospital working in medical records and housekeeping.  Minnie is survived by one son; James Connor of New Mexico, one stepson; Tommy Snell of Williamsport, two daughters; Ruth Hoover of New Columbia and April McCourry of Petersburg, VA, eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, one brother; George Merrick of Mansfield and three sisters; Verna Maynard of Canton, Leah Hardin of Wellsboro and Edith Wood of Florida.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother; Llewellyn Merrick and one sister; Blanche Jackson.  Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Highland Cemetery, New Columbia with Elizabeth Affsprung officiating the services.  Arrangements are being handled by the Dale E. ARTHUR W. MIX age 74 of 57 Lycoming St., Canton died early Thursday morning (March 13, 1969) at Blossburg State Hospital.  Mr. Mix was born in Canton Oct. 25, 1894, son of Hugh and Camelia Randall Mix.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Canton.  For 42 years he was a yard master for the former Pennsylvania Railroad Company.  Mr. Mix was a member of yard Master’s union.  He also belonged to the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.  He belonged to the Canton Moose Lodge.  Surviving are his wife, the former Rose Kreamer; a daughter, Mrs. Burrows (Marie) Thompson of Dunellen, N.J.; two sons, Charles Mix and William Mix, both of Williamsport; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Helen Schleh of Williamsport and two brothers, Robert S. Mix of Williamsport and Gene K. Mix of Paterson, N.J.  Funeral and committal services will be held at the Ralph T. Kleese Funeral Home, 40 N. Center St., Canton at 2:30 Sunday afternoon.  The Rev. THOMAS H. MOSHER age 58, died unexpectedly on Friday, Nov. 11, 2005 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pa.  Born Oct. 6, 1947, in Sayre, he was the son of the late Katherine and Harry Mosher.  He was a life resident of Waverly, N.Y.  Tom is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 32 years. Marilyn; his loving daughters, Melissa Wilkinson, and Kelly and son-in-law Tim Miller; his son, Brian Mosher; his loving grandchildren, Ryan Wilkinson and Jason, Rachael and Abby Miller; his father and mother-in-law, Ira and Mary Cole; a special aunt, Helen Wagner; and a large number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.  Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  His wife, children and grandchildren were the joy of his life.  Tom was an avid fly fisherman, who enjoyed memorable trips to his favorite spots in the Catskills with his many friends in the fly-fishing community. He was a loyal New York Yankees and New York Rangers fan.  Tom was a 1965 Waverly High School graduate. He was employed at Ingersoll Rand for many years until retirement in 2003.  He was a member of the Fly Tigers Guild, keeping with his joy of tying flies.  Tom will be missed by his family and many friends.  A time for gathering with family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 445 Waverly St., Waverly.  The celebration of Tom's life will be held Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the funeral home.  His loving family will be honoring his memory of 11 a.m.  –Towanda Daily Review

NORTON –MRS. LENA L. GUISEWHITE, 65 of Pine Valley, N.Y., widow of Arden Guisewhite and formerly of Shunk died at the Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira Thursday, December 10, 1964.  She is survived by five daughters; Mrs. James Brion and Miss Shirley Guisewhite both of Pine Valley, Mrs. Carlyle Smiley and Mrs. Daniel Bastion both of Horseheads and Mrs. Walter Adams of Big Flats; three sons, George of Paterson, N.J., Perry of Elmira and Norman of Lowman, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Ida Snell of Grover; two brothers, Ward Norton of Bentley Creek and Harvey of Shunk; a half-sister, Mrs. Clara Parrish; two half-brothers, Carter Coats of Big Flats and Charles of Millport, N.Y.; 26 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  Funeral services were held at the Morse Funeral Home in Canton Sunday afternoon with the Rev. OLIVER –FERN MAE POND age 76 formerly of Lovelton, Pa. died on Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.  Fern was born July 24, 1928 in Johnson City, N.Y., a daughter of the late Gerald and Arvilla Hunsinger Oliver.  She graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School, a member of the class of 1946.  She moved to Sciotavale, Pa. and married Francis Williams of Johnson City on Nov. 28, 1946.  He predeceased her on May 29, 1989.  She married Robert Pond of Lovelton on Nov. 8, 1975, he predeceased her on Oct. 8, 1996.  Fern worked for many years at several area sewing factories.  She was a long-time member of the Lovelton Bible Church, where she served as the pianist and Sunday school teacher for more than 20 years.  Music and singing were an integral part of her life and through which she brought joy to the lives around her, leaving rich memories as her legacy.  Known also for her quick and beautiful smile, she enjoyed baking for her family and grandchildren and was an accomplished seamstress.  Surviving are: her son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Jan Williams of Homets Ferry, Pa.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara & Ralph Gott of Mehoopany, Pa., Patricia & Brian Zeidner of Sugar Run and Yvonne and Jeffrey Canfield of Tunkhannock, Pa; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and five nieces and two nephews.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. at the P. EDWARD JOSEPH PALMER JR., 63 died unexpectedly at his home in Talkeetna, Alaska on Jan. 20, 2005.  Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Oct. 22, 1941, he was the son of Catherine Balck Palmer and the late Edward Palmer Sr.  In 1949 he moved with his family to Pennsylvania, eventually settling in Rome Township.  He was a 1959 graduate of Northeast Bradford High School and attended Wilkes College.  He worked for Shaylor Associates in Towanda and became a licensed surveyor.  He married Melanie Lucas on Feb. 17, 1968.  In the early 1970s Ed and his family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where Ed surveyed for the pipeline.  He was associated with Aleyska Oil Co.  They moved to Talkeetna and he established his own survey business.  He is survived by his wife, Melanie at home; his mother, Catherine Palmer of Wysox RR 2; his daughter, Ami Beth and her husband, Brian Mars of Nak Nek, Alaska; his sons, Todd and his wife, Noni of Eagle River, Alaska and David and his wife, Tyler of Talkeetna; and four grandchildren.  He is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and James Grimes of Wysox RR 2 and Pamela and Arthur Badger of Dushore and a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Irene Palmer of Wysox RR 2.  Several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive him.  Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time with Valley Funeral home Inc. of Wassilla, Alaska.  –Towanda Daily Review

JOHN A. PARDOE, 58, of Elkland Township, Forksville, Pa. died on Sunday, April 24, 2005 at Williamsport Hospital.  He was born on Aug. 20, 1946, in Canton, Pa., a son of Nelson and Clara Hocker Pardoe.  On Oct. 12, 1968, John married Marlene Litzelman Pardoe.  They have celebrated 36 years of loving marriage.  Prior to his retirement in 2001, he was a self-employed dairy farmer for over 33 years.  John had attended the Millview Wesley Church.  He was a member of the Eldredsville Volunteer Fire Company, and was past fire chief; he currently served as assistant fire chief; was a former district fire warden; was a member of the Historical Society in Laporte; and served as a past president of Eastern Milk Producers.  He enjoyed his time spent hunting and reading.  John was very respected by those around him.  He was a very loving husband and father.  He is survived by his wife, Marlene Pardoe, at home; by his three children, Jeffrey and Wanda Pardoe of Montoursville, Pa., Jennifer Pardoe of Williamsport, Pa., and Timothy Pardoe of Bremen, Ga.; by brothers and sisters, Carl, Mary Lou, Katherine, Robert and James; by a granddaughter Briana, and by many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David, and a sister, Helen.  A private family funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 27, in the Russell P. MR. DONALD H. RIDGEWAY, 77, of Bee St., P.O. Box 43, Laceyville, Pa., died at the Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock, Pa. on Tuesday morning, June 14, 2005.  Don was born in Lenox Twp., Susquehanna Co., Pa., on Sept. 10, 1927.  He was the son of the late Roy Harris and Adalyn Brundage Ridgeway.  For many years he was employed by Cornell Manufacturing in Laceyville, Pa., working as a shop foreman and he was also a salesman for the Cornell Barn Cleaners, retiring a number of years ago.  He was a member of the Braintrim Baptist Church in Laceyville, Pa., serving as a trustee and an usher.  He and his wife were also the church janitors for a number of years. From 1998 until 2000, he served as the mayor of Laceyville until ill health forced his resignation.  In his spare time, Don enjoyed woodworking and he was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.  He enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.  Don is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Helen M. Saylor Ridgeway, to whom he married on Sept. 6, 1951; his two daughters and their husbands, Kathy and James Luciano of Harrisburg, Pa., and Hollie and Bruce Birk of Tunkhannock; his sister and her husband, Christine and Harold May of Tunkhannock; his brother and his wife, Frank and Phyllis Ridgeway of Kingsley, Pa.; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jeannie Whipple.  Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2005, from the Braintrim Baptist Church in Laceyville, Pa., with Rev. ROBBINS –MARY JANE ROBBINS SAXE, 71, died peacefully on July 9, 2005 at her home in Huber Heights, Ohio following a long illness.  Born November 21, 1933 in the lumbering town of Masten, PA she was the youngest of nine in the family of Jasper and Almira (Jackson) Robbins.  She grew up in Canton and graduated from Canton High School.  She would have celebrated her 50th wedding with her husband, Walter on September 4 of this year.  She was a devoted wife, who consistently assisted him throughout a military and civilian career at Dover AFT, DE, Defense Supply Agency, VA and Wright-Patterson AFB, OH.  She enjoyed her outside-the-home career before children and after her children were grown.  Friends from her hometown at Canton can remember her constant smile as she worked at Beam’s Drug Store, Jim Taylor’s Insurance and the office at Collins Valve.  Friends in Ohio can recall her exuberance for work at the Fairborn Bank, Visue Sewer Office and newspaper office at Tipp City.  An avid reader, her ultimate job was working in the Huber Heights Library for nine years, retiring in 1994.  She was a member of the Sulphur Grove United Methodist Church since 1958 where she was active in many activities.  Because of her love for children she served many years in the church’s nursery and toddler’s room.  Besides her husband, she is survived by son, Walter ‘Chip” Saxe and daughter-in-law, Debbie with granddaughters, Marlee and Kara of West Chester, OH; daughter, Amy and grandson, Patrick, Bellfontaine, OH; sisters, Letha Tomlin, Chambersburg, PA and Shirley Sullivan, Ithaca, NY and brother-in-law, Ronald and Jean, Layton, Utah.  She was preceded in death by brothers, Bernard “Dick”, Emmett “Pete”, Merrell and Theron; and sisters, Marjorie Cott and Laura Koernig.  A private remembrance will be held July 12 at her Huber Heights home to be followed by a remembrance at the annual Robbins Family Reunion in Hillsgrove, PA in August 2005.  Burial will be in Dayton National Cemetery at a later date.  It is requested that memorials be directed to local Parkinson’s and Alzeheimer’s organizations.  Arrangements are entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home, Dayton, Ohio.  –Canton Independent Sentinel

DANIEL J. ROSS, 51, of Monroeton, Pa. died Friday, April 21, 2006 at his home.  Born Feb. 14, 1955 in Troy, Pa., he was the son of David M. Ross and the late Jean Morris Ross.  Daniel was a graduate of Troy High School and served in the U.S. Navy. In earlier years, Dan was employed by Williams Oil Co. and at the time of his death, he was employed by Osram Sylvania in Towanda. He enjoyed sprint car racing.  Surviving are his father and stepmother, David M. Ross and Louise Ross of Burlington, Pa.; his sisters, Sally Wholeslagle and her husband, Duane Woleslagle, of Mountain Lake, Pa., and Barbara Kay Reed and her husband, Bob Reed, of Deland, Fla.; his brother, David H. ELMER T. SEARFOSS, 97 of Waverly, N.Y. formerly of Sayre and Towanda, PA, died Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at the Tioga Nursing Facility.  Born October 26, 1907 in Cole Springs, PA the son of the late Nathan and Lilly Hinbaugh Searfoss.  Elmer was a former Welder for Sylvania and G.T.E. and an avid bowler.  He was a member of the Athens Senior Citizens, Skiff-Bower VFW Post No. 1536, Sayre, and a life member of the Towanda Fire Department.  He is predeceased by his wife Mary in 1987; three grandchildren, Eugene Miles Searfoss, Valerie Denise Hunsinger, and Guy Elmer Searfoss; his brothers, Miles, Truman, Paul, Joe and Robert Searfoss; and a sister, Sara Ammerman.  He is survived by his children, Leland and Betty Searfoss of Newville, PA; L. HARRY SECHRIST died at the home of his sister, Mrs. George Cook at Kane, Pa. on Friday, October 28, 1910 aged about 40 years.  He was the son of the late John Sechrist, who resided in Blossburg for many years.  His death was due to consumption.  His brothers and sisters surviving are W. C. Sechrist, Esq. of Canton, Pa., Edward of Blossburg, Mrs. Sophie Hartsock and Mrs. George E. GROVER L. SECULES, 92 of Muncy RD died Jan. 16, 1988 at Muncy Valley Hospital, Muncy.  He had been a resident of Kramm Nursing Home, Watsontown.  He was born Jan. 3, 1896 at Glen Mawr, a son of Lewis A. and Clara Shoemaker Secules.  A retired farmer, Mr. Secules had been a Muncy Creek Twp. tax assessor for 20 years and a Republican committeeman for several years.  He was a veteran of World War I and served with the U.S. Army in France.  He was a member of the Roland Ritter Post 268, American Legion; the Kallenbach-Mead Barracks 163, Veterans of World War I, Williamsport and a member of St. John’s Lutheran (Brick) Church, Montgomery.  Surviving are his wife, the former Myra M. JOHN E. KENNETH W. SHINER, 89, a well-known and respected 65 year resident of Newark Valley went peacefully to join his Lord at the Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, N.Y. on Oct. 4, 1999.  Ken was born May 21, 1910 in Powell, Pa. a son of the late Merton and Edna (Rockwell) Shiner.  He attended school in Powell and Towanda, Pa. and for more than 30 years was an employee of Endicott Johnson in Endicott, N.Y.  He was also employed at Morse-Chain in Ithaca for 14 years.  He enjoyed carpentry, farming, raising horses and bowling.  Ken was a member of the Flemingville United Methodist Church and a former member of the Flemingville Grange and the IOOF of Newark Valley.  He had a warm heart, a huge smile and loved to visit and tell stories.  He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Emma Campbell Shiner at home; his daughters, Katherine Shiner D’Andrea at Newark Valley and Bettyann Holden Shiner of Ithaca; his grandchildren, Jeanine (Sherman) and Charles Komar, Becky (Sherman) and Ed Wade, all of Newark Valley, Kim (Holden) and Karl Huizinga of Willseyville and Wayne “Richie” Holden Jr. of Danby; his great-grandchildren, Gregory, Desirae and Brad Huizinga, Shelby and Craig Wade and Bryan Tucker and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by an infant sister, Pauline; a sister, Juanita Dodge; brothers, Paul and Pat Shiner and son-in-law, Nick D’Andrea.  Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Flemingville United Methodist Church.  The Rev. SHOEMAKER –MRS. DORIS A. SMITH age 81 of RR 2, Box 3090, Laceyville, Pa. died at her home on Sunday evening May 7, 2006.  She was born in Rush, Pa., on July 12, 1924, the daughter of the late Herman and Annie Dean Shoemaker.  She was the wife of the late Morris E. Smith, who died on May 6, 2004.  They were married on Nov. 27, 1941, and until time of his death, they were inseparable.  In her earlier years, she was employed, at Burr's Poultry Farm in Meshoppen, Pa., Allie Miles Farm on Spring Hill, Pa., picking and packing apples and eggs.  For 43 years she was employed as parts manager for John Pary's Farm Equipment in Laceyville, Pa.  She was a member of the Skinner's Eddy United Methodist Church.  Also she was a member of the Edinger Hill Ladies Aide Society, and a past member of the Spring Hill Grange.  In her last years, her main interests were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her home and her flower gardens, a very large hat collection and for the last two years, her dog, Cookie.  Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Barbara) Champluvier, of Laceyville, Pa., and Ms. Dolores Sharer of Wyalusing, Pa.  Also one granddaughter, three grandsons, two great-granddaughters and seven great-grandsons, several nieces and nephews.  Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Viola Shoemaker, Ruth Shoemaker and Mildred Shoemaker; and seven brothers, Howard Shoemaker, Dan Shoemaker, Raymond Shoemaker, Harry Shoemaker, Leo Shoemaker, Art Shoemaker and Floyd Shoemaker.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 10, at noon, at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street Laceyville, Pa. with Rev. Sue Wenner, of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church officiating.  Interment will be in the Overfield Cemetery in Meshoppen, Pa. WAYNE HUGH SICK, 54 of Williamsport, Pa. died Friday night, April 29, 2005 of a massive heart attack.  He was born Jan. 28, 1951, in Sayre, Pa. Wayne was the son of the late Joseph J. and Elizabeth (Betty) McMahon Sick.  Raised on a small farm in Cherry Mills, he attended St. Basil's School until it closed in 1966.  Wayne went on to graduate from Sullivan County High School in 1969.  Soon after graduation, Wayne purchased a small grocery store, BP gas station in Dushore, which he ran for a couple of years.  In 1972, Wayne moved to State College to work at Skills Industries, Inc. as a manager for 20 years.  In 1988, he had a heart attack and underwent open heart by-pass surgery. Wayne purchased a home in Alexandria, Va. in 1993.  With his promotion he was now working as a production manager at SOC Enterprises, helping people with disabilities.  In 1996, he found out that he had the late stages of Lyme disease. In 1998, Wayne had to undergo another heart by-pass which was complicated by a severe staff infection requiring most of his sternum to be removed.  Later, he was hospitalized again because of fluid around the heart.  Finally, in 2002, Wayne suffered a severe back injury at work.  On March 10, 2004, Wayne purchased a home in Williamsport in order to be closer to his family.  He decided to pursue a career in Real Estate and had recently completed a Pa. Real Estate Course.  Surviving are a special cousin and friend Katie Meckley and his sister Bettyann (Abe) Goodyear; his brothers Edward, Gerald and Thomas Sick and several nieces and nephews.  Wayne's greatest joy was spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was a charismatic, caring, and reliable man who was always there for his friends and family no matter how hectic his own life was.  Bettyann's five children loved him like a father.  Family and friends may call from 11 to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, at the P. STAFF SGT. DONALD H. SLUYTER JR., 28 of Shippensburg, Pa., formerly of Rome RR1, Pa., died Monday evening, July 3, 2006 as a result of a motorcycle accident in Shippensburg.  Born June 19, 1978 in Sayre, Pa., he was the beloved son of Donald H. Sluyter Sr., and Kay C. Rowe Sluyter; and beloved brother of Danielle Sluyter Frazier.  Don was a graduate of Northeast Bradford High School Class of 1996.  He enlisted in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard 193rd Special Operations Wing at the time of his death was stationed at the Harrisburg International Airport. Don served overseas during the Iraqi Freedom Campaign.  He was a graduate student at Shippensburg University where he also received his undergraduate degree in criminal justice.  Don was a member of American Legion Post in Shippensburg, Pa.  He loved riding motorcycles, playing basketball and baseball and working on his home with his Dad.  He was a foster parent for "Castaway Critters."  Surviving are his parents, Donald H. Sluyter Sr. Kay Sluyter of RR 1, Rome, Pa., and his sister, Sgt. Danielle Frazier and her husband, Sgt. Christopher Frazier of Harrisburg Pa., his niece, AlexaKae Frazier and nephew, Jordan Frazier, both of Harrisburg, Pa., his companion, Monica Scarazzo of Shippensburg, Pa., paternal grandmother, Wilma Evans of Athens, Pa., aunts and uncles, Sally Dempsey of Elmira, N.Y., Grace and Robert Hayward of Clarks summit, Pa., Barbara and Butch Bailey of Towanda, Pa., Dale and Crystal Sluyter of Sayre, Pa.  He is also survived by several cousins.  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Harold and Wilda Rowe.  The funeral and committal service will be held Friday, July 7, at 1 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa., with the Rev. Ben Robinson, pastor of the Rome United Methodist Church, officiating.  The Pennsylvania Air National Guard 193rd Special Operations Wing will accord full military honors at the funeral home.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. EMERSON HENRY SMITH died August 7, 1968 in Quincy, IL.  Mr. Smith was born June 16, 1905 in Eagles Mere, PA, the son of Henry Jacob and Virgie DeWald Smith.  Survivors include his brother, Paul E. Smith and sister, Josephine A. Smith, both of Canton.  Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.  Graveside services will be held September 7 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. David B. MR. MORRIS E. SMITH age 82 of RR 3, Box 3090, Laceyville (Edinger Hill) died at the Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock, Pa. on Thursday evening, May 6, 2004.  Born in Breslau, Pa., Luzerne County on July 13, 1921 he was the son of the late Theodore and Mary Tubbs Smith.  Morris was a farmer and farm machinery equipment mechanic, working for 20 years for Allie Miles Poultry Farm on Spring Hill and five years for Marian Bennett Dairy Farm in Silvara.  For the last 43 years he worked for John Parys Farm and Equipment Sales in Laceyville.  He was a member of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church in Laceyville and he was also a longstanding member of the NRA.  In the winter months, he very much enjoyed deer hunting.  Morris is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Doris A. Shoemaker Smith; two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Barbara) Champluvier of Laceyville and Ms. Dolores Sharer of Wyalusing; three grandsons and a granddaughter; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Howard Smith in 1968, Albert Smith in 1966, Harold Smith in 1910 and Carl Smith in 1973, as well as three sisters, Lela Bulford in 1975, Myrtle Smith in 1930 and Druie Turner in 1965.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 11 at 2 p.m. at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Laceyville with the Rev. MISS ELIZABETH E. SNYDER, 87 of Elkland Township, Forksville RR 1 died on Saturday, April 14, 1993 at Divine Providence Hospital in Williamsport, Pa.  Born on June 10, 1905 in Eldredsville, Sullivan County, she was the daughter of the late J. Lyman and Sarah Molyneux Snyder.  She was a graduate of Estella High School, class of 1921 and in addition she was a graduate of Mansfield Normal School and went on to receive a master’s degree from Bucknell University.  Miss Snyder taught school in Center School in Elkland Township School District for three years and had taught for 45 years in the Wellsboro School District, retiring in 1973.  Her memberships included: Delta Kappa Gamma, the Retired Teachers Association and the First United Methodist Church of Wellsboro.  She had attended St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Elkland Township.  Surviving are one sister: Mrs. Alice Loomis of Oneonta, N.Y.; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Lela Snyder of Forksville; two nieces; Helen Snyder Nace of Hughesville, Pa. and Ginger Loomis Swank of Zanesville, Ohio; three nephews; Keith Snyder of Painted Post, N.Y., Dale Loomis of Ithaca, N.Y. and Jan Loomis of Birmingham, Ala.; five grandnieces and four grandnephews.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 1993 at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s United Church of Christ at Hugo Corners with the Rev. SPALDING –MRS. ANNA SPALDING SCOTT, widow of the late William Scott, a native and life-long resident of Towanda, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. T. Dodson on State Street Saturday morning at 8:40 after a long illness.  Mrs. Scott was born in Towanda 87 years ago the eight day of this month.  She was the daughter of the late Bela Spalding, a pioneer settler in Towanda, who established his home on the site now occupied by Christ church and where Mrs. Scott was born.  Her entire life was spent here where she was well known and highly esteemed.  Mrs. Scott was the last of her own family.  She was the oldest member of the First Presbyterian church of Towanda.  Two daughters, Mrs. W.  T. Dodson and Mrs. John H. Pennypacker both of Towanda and two sons, Morgan Scott of St. Mary’s, and Dr. Clinton Scott of Ramseytown, Pa. survive.  The funeral was held morrow, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Pennypacker home on York Avenue. ROBERT M. SPENCER, Adams Basin, New York died February 1, 2006.  Born July 30, 1929, he was a son of the late Miles VanFleet and Madaline (Bunyan) Spencer.  Mr. Spencer attended Towanda High School and served two years in the US Army.  He was a Kodak retiree and a member of the Unity Lodge #479 F & AM.  Surviving are his wife, Lynne (McCann) Spencer; five brothers, Miles (Evie) Spencer, Honeybrook, PA, Edward (Beverly) Spencer, Washington, NC, Jake Spencer, Franklindale, PA, Henry (Donna) Spencer, Hamlin, NY and Joseph (Janice) Spencer, Webster, NY; several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Madaline Sharon Spencer.  The funeral service was held February 8th at the Thomas E. JAMES W. STRATTON, 61 of 680 Campbell Street died Monday, Feb. 22, 1988 at his home.  He was a doorman at Williamsport Moose Lodge 145 of which he was a member.  He was a member of Travelers Protective Assn., Bald Eagle Very High Frequency Society, Quarter Century Wireless Assn. and West Branch Amateur Radio Assn.  He graduated from Williamsport High School in 1946.  Born Nov. 19, 1926 at Elmira, N.Y., he was a son of William G. and Beatrice M. Probst Stratton.  Survived by a sister, Mrs. Florence A. Logan of Syracuse, N.Y.  Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery.  Arrangements are being handled by Crouse’s, 133 East Third St.

TALADA –JEAN L. ‘MEAN JEAN’ HOWLAND, 75 a resident of 31 N. Main St., Muncy, Pa., formerly of Williamsport and Towanda died on Monday, Feb. 11, 2002 in the Muncy Valley Hospital at Muncy.  Born in Towanda on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Abe and Grace Huntz Talada.  She was a 1944 graduate of Towanda High School.  Jean was employed in the shipping department at Bailey Controls, Williamsport, retiring in 1993.  She was a longtime NASCAR fan and die-hard Dale Earnhardt fan.  She was a social member of the Edward J. Smith VFW Post at Muncy.  The you of her life was her family and grandchildren.  She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Pete Bahr of Monroeton, Pa. and Genie and Tom Wines of Muncy; on son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Beth Howland of Chesopeke, Va.; one sister, Phyllis Brown of Oswego, N.Y.; one brother, Cletus Talada of Rochester, N.Y., nine grandchildren, Jeff, Jeremy, Kris, Carie, Michael, Adam, Alissa, Billy and Chad and three great-grandchildren, Zoe, Kris and Cameron.  She was preceded in death by a son, Craig Howland and her long-time companion, Leo F.
