January 1, 1880 – All at the gathering of the Riggs family at A. Riggs’s. Nearly all present, a good time. Elected Secretary to prepare minutes for the next meeting and keep a record of births & deaths, etc. In the evening we children make a surprise for mother, the whole family present & Uncle Samuel Riggs & wife a pleasant time.
Jan. 2 – Work in mill & visit with Wesley & Hester.

Jan. 30 – Visit with Rev. J. R. Drake & wife, in evening we attend a surprise party at J. C. Tompkinson’s. A pleasant visit.

Feb. 2 – Talk with W. S. Riggs in regard to starting a Sash, door & blind factory.

Feb. 17 – At Election and meet School Directors—visit West Burlington school.
Feb. 18 – J. C. Tompkinson moved to Smithfield. Lewis Hima (Hinea?sp) moved into the Tompkins house.

Feb. 24 – At Perry Harknesses and Mill City looking up acts. And lumber.

Feb. 28 – Meet School Directors near Geo. Steels to locate and sell school house. Sold fer #240.

Mar. 1 – At Andrew Stantons to see in regard to lumbar.
Mar. 2 – Get stone out of creek for foundation to factory.
Mar. 3 – Lay foundation for factory.

Mar. 9 – Old Mrs. Pease died, about 93 years old.

Mar. 20 – Hesters husband died this morning.
Mar. 21 – Hear of the death of C. W. Smith. Making arrangements to go to funeral.
Mar. 22 – Self & Isadore go with Clarence & Ophelia to the funeral, and return same day.
Mar. 23 – Return from funeral at 2 AM this morning. Feel very lonesome today.

Mar. 29 – W. L. Riggs starts fer Philadelphia to buy machinery fer Door, Sash & Blind Factory.

Apr. 7 – Work on factory and buy fer factory of Mrs. Wm. Pierce #44.07 pine lumber. Pay fer hauling same 4.00. 598 ft at #18.00 = 10.76, 2776 ft. at #12.00 = 33.31 = 44.07

Apr. 9 -- Simon McArty died
Apr. 10 – Work on factory and Raise Same by a "Bee" Raising. Men work well. Raise same in 2 ½ hours. Size 36 X 46 feet, 18 foot posts, 4 bends (sp?)

Apr. 14 – John Chamberline died. Relative of James H. Wells. Mrs. (J. B.) White died.

Apr. 29 – Father and self at Towanda to see in regard to Pomeroy remaining judgment.

May 23 – All at Smithfield at Church, Sunday School & Class Meeting also at funeral of Stephen Beach. Fight fire some very day.

May 27 – Self & Isadore at Owego, NY to attend funeral of Mrs. A. ?. Wheat. Start at 4 AM, return at 10 PM. Wm. A. Campbell buried to day. Funeral at 5 PM. Dead from effects of doctoring a cow.

June 1 – Nora Maynard died.

June 7 – Meet School Board. Take seat on Board elected for 3 years. Appointed Secretary and Treasurer. A. C. Blackwell called for Sensus Report. Report total value of lumber manf. in ?? during part year was #9000.00, and that our hens laid during part year 40 doz. Eggs and our cow made 3 firkins Butter.
June 8
June 9 – See Director, could not legally hold Secretary and Treasurer on School Board. Father appointed in my place.

June 15 – Work on house for Maynard.

June 24 – Work on house for Maynard and go with W. L. Riggs to John Storks & Wm. Henry Pierces and Smithfield center – looking for lumber. Delbert Riggs hurts his eye.

June 27 – All at Church & Sunday School. Mrs. Tompkins came home to fix Isadore dress next week.

June 29 – Fix kiln to dry doors in forenoon, also at Wm. Henry Pierces to count lumber. Buy 3000 feet at #25.00/m

July 3 – Miss Mary Smith married to a Mr. Crawford. She was one of my S. School schollars.

July 6 – Isadore at Ophelias, self at Towanda, Pa. Sell microscope for #25.00. Buy 1 field glass for 12.00.

July 16 – Eye rather sore. Rev. J. R. Drake and wife here visiting.
July 17 – Isadore & self with W. L. Riggs & wife at Old Church, Burlington to Annual Meeting. Stop at the poor house and see them make brick. They have a brick machine and make from 13 to 16,000 per day.

July 24 – All on Pisgah a pleasant time. Lee learning to telegraph by signal light from Pisgah.

Sept. 16 – W. L. Riggs decides to go to Philadelphia to see his brother who has to have his eye taken out, operation to be performed on next Saturday. Charge for same #110.00
Sept. 17 – Buy of C. J. Ellis, Towanda, Pa, full set Appletons Cyclopedia, 16 volums at 6.00 per vol., 1 index at 6.00 per vol. = 102.00 Pay 1 set ??? Cyclopedia at 10.00 on same and case 87.00 and receive discount of 5.00.
Sept. 18, 19, 20
Sept. 21 – All go to visit Uncle Samuel Riggs. I go to Williamsport to see in regard to lumber fer Sash & Blinds. Return to S. L. Riggs at 11 PM.
Sept. 22 – Return home, 4 Vols of Appletons Annual Cyclopedia left here to have one year to pay for same at 5.00 each. Vols fer 1876-7-8-9.
Sept. 23
Sept. 24 – Go to Wyalusing for lumber, buy 1 carload.
Sept. 25 – Visiting with Rev. D. Crow & wife and S. S. Webster 7 wife.
Sept. 26 – Take Rev. D. Crow & wife to Smithfield, preaching by D. Crow. Delber Riggs return home from Phila. Feeling well. His eye better.
Sept. 27 – Mrs. H. S. Kingsley buried.
