IT’S A GRAND OLD GAME

CELEBRATING BRADFORD COUNTY

BASEBALL HERITAGE

DATE: Sunday, November 6, 2005

TIME: 1 – 5 p.m.

PLACE: Bradford County Historical Society

109 Pine St. Towanda, PA

ADVANCE TICKETS: $ 5.00 AT THE DOOR: $ 7.00

Children 12 and under: $ 2.00

Remember when every little town in Bradford County had a ball team? Did you play on one of those teams or were you one of the loyal fans who never missed a game? Baseball in our county was so big at one time that businesses actually closed down on the afternoon of a much anticipated battle on the ball diamond.

If you or anyone in your family were ever part of one of these teams, we need your stories for our newly created "Baseball History File". To prevent these stories from being lost forever, an ALL CALL is hereby being issued for stories, news articles, photos and any baseball memorabilia to be brought to the Historical Society. You need not donate the original unless you wish to. Scanners are available to copy your item or it could just be loaned for a temporary display. Please call BCHS at 570-265-2240 or Dewey Russell at 570-247-7118 for details. Leave a message and they will call you back.

Watch for advance sale of raffle tickets. Baseball related items will be raffled at the end of the day, including a regulation Louisville Slugger Bat autographed by as many Bradford County players that we can locate who ever signed a professional contract to play minor or major league ball. Many of these players will be our special guests on Nov. 6th so come out and meet them and hear their stories.

There will be story telling in the Great Room while you enjoy a hotdog or box of Crackerjacks. All will be encouraged to share stories of the many great games played locally. Displays will also be set up throughout the museum for your baseball pleasure.

If this grand old game is your passion or if you’re just a history nut, come out and enjoy an afternoon of baseball reminiscing and perhaps take home a prized souvenir of the game.

Dear Friend of the Museum,

The Bradford County Historical Society is pleased to announce that the Third Annual, 2005 Christmas Tree Gala will be held on December 2, 2005. We would like to thank everyone who participated last year, making the 2004 event such an overwhelming success. We anticipate another exciting gala evening this year.

The Christmas Tree Benefit Auction is certain to highlight the evening and we would like to call upon your generosity and creative talents once again. There will be two ways to donate an item for auction. The beautiful and uniquely decorated trees will be the feature of the live auction and wreaths, centerpieces or other holiday items will be included as part of the silent auction. As always, we continue to welcome your group to exhibit a tree or decoration in the museum for the holiday season.

The museum will be open during special holiday hours for the purpose of viewing the lovely displays and items for auction. Names of groups will be prominently placed with their tree, holiday item or exhibit.

If you wish to participate, please register by October 14, 2005. A convenient time will be arranged for your group to set up your display so that it is ready for viewing by mid November.

Thank you in advance for your consideration. Becoming involved in an event such as this helps keep the museum doors open and the research library functioning. Preserving the history of Bradford County is important to all of us and your contribution to this is sincerely appreciated.

Happy Holidays!

Lynn Pliske and Anne Sturzen, Co-chairpersons
