The Wren's Nest is an historic home on Route 6 just west of Mansfield. It has recently been converted to a restaurant. Al Walker has recently sent in some older photos of the house as well as of some if its residents. He is working on an article about the home's historty for us and it will be added here when he is finished.

Here is an excerpt from a note by Al which will be expanded:
I have a history started on the the Wren's Nest, so I'll get with it and finish it up.  I can tell you that it was built in 1854 by Dr. Joseph P. Morris from the plans of an English Cottage.  Joseph had been sent to the area in 1835 from Philadelphia to assist his cousin Benjamin managing the country estates and look after the family interests.  Benjamin was married to Mary Wells (For whom Wellsboro was named).  The house was expanded over the years until about the 90's when it reached it's final form.  Of course there were changes between then and now.  Joseph had his hands in many ventures around the county and was supposedly the first Postmaster in Blossburg.  He also started the coal company and railroad there.  Hence the town names of Morris and Morris Run.  He donated the land where the University now stands.  He also gave the land and help fund the building of St. James Episcopal Church.

1896 Tennis Court
Note from Al Walker, "The picture of the Thompson/Swan/Morris group was taken about 1896 near the big screened porch on the NE side of the house.  I can remember those tennis rackets hanging in the woodshed when I was growing up. "

Seated: "Bro" Morris, Morris Thompson, Elizabeth Swan, Ros ?? Morris.

Standing: Joseph Swan,  James K. Thompson, Jack Thompson, Mary SWAN Thompson

Another 1896 Tennis Green photo. Names at bottom are cropped, but clothing looks like a match to the photo above. Same people, same day.
I have attached another photo that I believe was taken ca 1998.  Pictured are Katherine Morris Swan,  daughter of Joseph P. & Sarah Ellis Morris sitting with Elizabeth Swan, wife of Joseph sitting on the front porch.
