It's almost November and this is what my garden looks like. My little border marigolds have turned into shrubs. Tomatoes and peppers still grow in the back garden. No significant frost yet.
Maggie, meet Andy. This photo of Maggie and Andy is friendlier than it looks. It is play, at least on Maggie's part. Andy actually thinks he is defending himself. The first day of our visit to "Maggie's House" Amos and Andy hid under the ottomans from her over-exuberant attempts to play with them. They were afraid of her size although she really just wanted to romp. The second day was better, and the little guys were less intimidated. No animals were hurt in the filming.

Spanish Hill and Carantouan:The History, the People and the Politics - by Deb Twigg is now on sale!

"The book Spanish Hill and Carantouan:The History, the People and the Politics is a newer account of the Carantouan research that tells the historical story with with more references and maps, documents and images and then tells all of the stories that people have asked me to tell when I do presentations, to include those efforts to preserve the hill, packed full of actual letters and documents that I think the reader will find VERY interesting...from Ellsworth Cowles, Barry Kent, Warren K. Moorehead, General John S Clark, Ted Keir, LD Shoemaker, the Murrays, there are so many interesting stories to tell just about these people and how they effected our local history...and the hill.... and then I continue with my research into the Mound Builder culture and what I have concluded from it as it relates to the hill and the story of Carantouan...and what I have come to believe Spanish Hill actually was used for.

Ghost Walk Tells Tales of Elmira’s Past
The Chemung Valley History Museum, in partnership with the Elmira Little Theater and the Friends of Woodlawn Cemetery, will present a Ghost Walk on Friday October 26, 2007.  The walk begins at the Chemung Valley History Museum at 415 East Water Street in Elmira. Guests will be transported by trolley to Woodlawn Cemetery, where they will be led on a guided tour and hear stories about Elmira’s past as told by the “ghosts” who haunt the cemetery. Guests will then return to the museum via trolley.
Refreshments, a trivia contest, and other activities will be provided at the museum. Participants must be able to walk 3/10ths of a mile, partially downhill. Feel free to bring your own flashlights.
During the walk, guests will encounter three “ghosts” as portrayed by actors from Elmira Little Theater. The featured ELT actors are: Christine Gill (credits: Nunsense II: The Second Coming; and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde); Jim Wellington (credits: The Caine Mutiny Court Martial; and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde); and Gary Yoggy (credits: A Visit to the Golden Age of Radio, director; and will star as The Wizard in the Lake Country Players’ production of The Wizard of Oz in November). The presentation is written and directed by Joe Edkin of Elmira Little Theater.
Doors open at 6:00pm. Tours leave at 6:30pm, 7:00pm, 7:30pm, and 8:00pm. Seating is limited. Advanced reservations are strongly recommended.
Admission is $10. To make reservations, contact the Chemung Valley History Museum at 734-4167.

See  Also PARTITIONED search engine to search just sections of the site. -- Below
Use the Drop Down Windowto search selected areas of site for Obituaries and other slected information
These represent directories in the site's structure. Clipping section includes scrapbooks of obituaries, marriages, gossip, etc. It also includes new obits where the cemetery is not identified. The Obit by cemetery pages are by county BUT obits may be on an obit by cemetery page OR in the Clipping - scrapbook section. Check both. Also remember that people are often buried in a different county than the one in which they lived or died. Another point to be aware of is that some of the very small cemeteries that have few obits will have the obits on the cemetery listing page. They will be missed by this partitioned search of just the obituary directories. They will show up on the search which covers the entire site or the burials.
If you do not click the drop down list, you will think this is just the same form of the search engine we have had for several years. It is NOT - It is a major enhancement of its utility which I will develop further depending on positive feedback I do or do not get. At this point it partitions the obituaries and cemetery listings only. While obits are added daily, the search engine in not reindexed that frequently. Added obituaries will only register when the search engine is reindexed.
Here is an IMPORTANT tip - If you use a DATE restriction in your search, be aware that refers to the date I last changed a particular page - It is a file date, NOT a date for an event.
