| Reading a series of obituaries from a single
cemetery, as they are presented here, is like reading the multi-generational
history of a community. These people were the local populace at a particular
time. The people buried here knew each other, were neighbors, relatives
and school mates. They attended church together and engaged in "trade"
or business.
All people are listed in alphabetic order by surname at BIRTH. Women identified by a married alias only and for whom a birth surname can not be identified, are listed on the last page for the cemetery's obituaries. Please send in typed obituaries for people buried in our local cemeteries. If possible include name of newspaper and date. Send typed in your email or in attached Word files. Send to Joyce M. BROWN –IDA HAZEL ANDREWS, 90. In the early morning hours of Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998 Ida Hazel (Brown) Andrews, was called to her heavenly home while in residence at the Bradford County Manor. She was 90 years of age. Born June 6, 1908, in Ellenton, Lycoming County, she was one of 10 children in the family of Mason and Laura Ann (Leonard) Brown. While Ida was at an early age, the family moved to Tioga County and settled on a farm on English Hill. As a farm girl, Ida learned the meaning of industriousness and responsibility, two character traits which she would demonstrate throughout her life. Being the sturdy young woman that she was, young Ida would do house chores as well as heavy farm chores which were usually reserved for men. She met a young man from the next hill over, Delbert Jackson, who would one day be her husband. They were united in Holy Matrimony on June 14, 1924, and were together until Delbert was called from this life in 1970. Ida was a devoted wife and mother, and as soon as the children were older, she went to work for Remmington Rand Corp. in their manufacturing plant. She did this for 15 years until health problems caused her to go into retirement. In spite of it all. Ida was determined not to idle. She began a career of practical nursing and in-home health care and was very much in demand. She also practiced photography as a sideline and worked her two-acre vegetable garden with a hoe. After the passing of her first husband she met Basil Andrews and they were married in 1974. The time together was brief, however and Basil passed away in June of 1975. Ida was a woman with a close relationship with her Lord, and she demonstrated her faith through many random acts of kindness. She shared what she had with all who were in need. Ida was a warm, outgoing person, not the least bit shy. She was well-known for her hand made quilts and crochet work, especially outfits for infants. Ida is survived by her son Charles W. Jackson of Canton; daughters, Doris Stage of Mansfield, Betty Louise Ames of Troy, and Marjorie May (husband Robert) Wagner of Sylvania; sisters, Marjorie Beals and Susie Keltz, both of Elmira; 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren.
