| Reading a series of obituaries from a single
cemetery, as they are presented here, is like reading the multi-generational
history of a community. These people were the local populace at a particular
time. The people buried here knew each other, were neighbors, relatives
and school mates. They attended church together and engaged in "trade"
or business.
All people are listed in alphabetic order by surname at BIRTH. Women identified by a married alias only and for whom a birth surname can not be identified, are listed on the last page for the cemetery's obituaries. LONNIE ELDON GRANT BAILEY, Age 50, of Forks Township, New Albany
RR 2, died on Sept. 14, 2003 at Memorial Hospital in Towanda. He
was born on Dec. 31, 1952, on the family farm a son of Joseph and Helen
Beeman Bailey. Prior to his retirement in 1996, he was employed at
McCarty and Driscoll Pallet Factory. Mr. Bailey had attended the
St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Overton, PA. He is survived
by his wife; Lorraine Kellogg Bailey, at home; by sons; Shane Bailey Watkins,
of Muncy; Lonnie Bailey, Stephen Bailey, Joshua Bailey, Kasey Bailey, and
Clark Bailey, all at home; a daughter Heather Bailey Brown, of New Albany
RD, PA; five sisters; Patricia Bacorn, of Overton, Shirley Bird, of Overton,
Sandera Fetherbay, of New Albany; Sharon Haines, of Picture rocks, Alice
Lewis of Wysox; by two brothers; Sherill (Butch) Bailey, of Tunkhannock,
Alan Bailey, of New Albany; and by three grandchildren. Funeral services
will be held on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at 11 a.m. in St. Paul’s United
Church of Christ in Overton, PA, with the Rev. Robert W. Martin, pastor
officiating. Interment will follow in the Reformed Cemetery, Overton,
PA. Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday, Sept. 18,
2003, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ from 10:00 a.m. until the time

Overton, Bradford Co., PA
CHRZAN Vincent Age 79, of Eric St., Norwich, died Tuesday evening, November 7, 2006, at his home. Born in Troy, PA on October 14, 1927, Vincent was the son of Frank and Margaret (Hayes) Chrzan. Following his high school graduation in Troy, he served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. Upon returning home after his honorable discharge, Vincent enrolled in Harpur College in Binghamton, attended classes through Harpur's consolidation with SUNY, and earned his Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Over his working years, Vincent served as accountant for several different firms, including 12 years with Corning Glass of Corning. He was Treasurer and CFO for Bennett Ireland in Norwich, where he worked until they closed their doors. He then took employment as accountant for the Norwich office of Lewis Engineering, eventually moving to Connecticut to work as CFO in the home office. On February 25, 1952 in Endicott, Vincent married Erma Dunbar, who predeceased him on May 7, 2006. Vincent is survived by his children and their spouses, Bonnie and Bruce Scott of Albany, Vicki and Bob Conron of Norwich, and Tim Chrzan of Endicott; by his grandchildren, Brian Scott and wife, Renee, Beth Scott; Kate, Karen, Kerry, and Korinna Conron; and by great-granddaughter, Ainsley Scott. He is also survived by his sisters, Margaret Krise, Annabelle Polly, Irene Stone, Katherine Young, and Frances Chopak, all of Troy, PA; and was predeceased by his brothers, William and Raymond Chrzan. Mass of Resurrection for Vincent will be held on Saturday, November 11 at 10:00 a.m. from the Church of the Holy Apostle St. Paul's. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Vincent's family has asked that memorial contributions be sent to the Church of the Holy Apostle St. Paul's, 8 Silver St., Norwich, NY 13815. EPLEY –MYRTLE N. EPLEY SNYDER, age 83 of Ferry St., Athens, Pa. died unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, April 22, 2000. She was born in Overton, Pa. on July 15, 1916, the daughter of Charles and Kathryn Murray Epley. She worked for many years at the Blue Swan Mills in Sayre, Pa. She was a member of the Athens Senior Citizens Club and the Pennsylvania ILGWU Retirees Club. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Reta and Milton Bublinec of Johnson City, N.Y.; sister, Grace Washburn of Arcadia, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Leland Shedden of Sayre, Pa.; brother and sister-in-law, Ervin and Lila Epley of Drums, Pa.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Alfred and Robert Arnold of Windham Township, Pa. and Arlene and Bruce Barnhart of Nichols, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter O. Snyder in 1992 and her sisters, Madelyn Preston and Ruth Epley and a brother, Charles Epley. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon at the Lowery Funeral Home, 225 S. Main St., Athens, Pa. Funeral and committal services will follow there at noon with the Rev. Robert W. FLUCK - Delbert Raymond Fluck, age 72, of (Overton Township), New Albany, Pa., died on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Skilled Nursing Unit in Towanda, Pa. He was born on Jan. 29, 1936, in Pleasant Valley, Pa., a son of the late Francis and Eva Mease Fluck. On June 3, 1956, he married the former Elizabeth C. Hoffman in Pleasant Valley. Mr. and Mrs. Fluck have celebrated over 51 years of marriage. He has been a resident of this area since 1975, having relocated from Richlandtown, in Bucks County, Pa. Prior to his retirement in 1998, he was a self-employed roofing and siding contractor. He is a member of St. Paul's Church in Overton and has served on church consistory and council; he was a former mayor of Richlandtown, and was a member of the Richlandtown Fire Company. He enjoyed bowling on a senior bowling league, hunting, and his time spent in the outdoors. Delbert enjoyed embroidery and quilting. He especially and found great pleasure in time spent with his family and many friends. He leaves surviving: his wife, Elizabeth Fluck, at home; his children, David Fluck of Dupont, Pa., Joan and Melvin Rohe of Dushore, Pa., Edward Fluck (Gale Benjamin) of Franklindale, Pa.; special friends, Scot and Deborah Sample of New Albany, Dylan Sample and Nicole Sample; his five brothers and two sisters, LeRoy Fluck, Walter Fluck, Francis (Orpha) Fluck Jr., Kermit (Julie) Fluck, Lorretta Booth, Lillian Weiss, Charles Fluck; brother-in-law, George Kramer; sister-in-law, Kathleen Fluck; and by two grandsons, Rodney and Brian Rohe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: Myrtle Kramer, and James, Howard and Clarence Fluck. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, in St. Paul's Church in Overton, with the Rev. Darcy Miller, his pastor officiating. LAMBERT –MRS. JENNIE E. PARDOE of Monroeton died Monday afternoon at Memorial Hospital at the age of 93 (1966). She had been ill but a short time. Mrs. Pardoe was born August 1, 1873 in Forks Township, Sullivan County, and the daughter of John and Emma LAN back Lambert. She spent the major part of her life in the Forks Township and New Albany areas. Her husband, Abraham Pardoe died about 30 years ago. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ at Overton. Surviving are: three sons, Arthur L. Pardoe of New Albany, Grant L. of Towanda RD and John C. of New Albany; a daughter, Mrs. Alice Cass of Monroeton with whom she made her home for the past 14 years; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Bender of Dushore RD, Mrs. William Crumple of Sayre and Mrs. Mary Mertzon of Los Angeles, Calif.; seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home in Dushore Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Her pastor the Rev. James E. Johnson will officiate and interment will be in St. Paul’s Reformed Cemetery, Overton.
PARDOE –ALICE PARDOE CASS, 92, widow of Samuel T. Cass of the Personal Care Home of Memorial Hospital, Towanda, formerly of Monroeton, died Monday, March 15, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Towanda. Born Aug. 19, 1911, in Forks Township, Sullivan County, she was a daughter of the late Abraham Pardoe and Jennie Lambert Pardoe. On June 22, 1946, she married Samuel T. Cass, who later preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 1951. Alice was a member of the Monroeton Presbyterian Church until its closure. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Samuel t. Cass III and Holly Cass of Haddon Heights, N.J.; two grandsons, Brooks William Cass and Ryan Graham Cass, both of Haddon Heights; several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; and close friends Francis Beeman and Ruth Moscrip. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, John and Grant Pardoe. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at 1 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with the Rev. Robert Martin officiating. Interment will be in the St. Paul's Reformed Cemetery, Overton. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. QUAIL - Vera Mae Quail Bailey, age 89, died on Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at Dar-Way Nursing Home in Estella, Pa. She was born on Jan. 10, 1919, in Shunk, Pa., a daughter of the late Jesse Quail and the late Anna McCool Quail. Mrs. Bailey is the widow of the late Ervin W. Bailey, who preceded her in death on May 22, 1970. For many years, she owned and operated a dairy farm with her husband. She also worked at Rynveld's Wreath Factory for many years, and also worked as a head of the kitchen and cook at Dar-Way from the first day it opened until August of 1983. Vera is a member of St. Peter's Church, at Hugo's Corners, in Estella. She enjoyed crocheting, and gardening flowers. She especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She leaves surviving: a daughter, Darlene (Harry) Shoemaker of New Albany, Pa.; a son, Marvin (Leah) Bailey of Bloomfield, N.Y.; granddaughters, Cindy Shoemaker of Stroudsburg, Pa., Tina (Richard) Bailey of Bloomfield, N.Y., Karla (R.J.) Bailey of Bloomfield, N.Y.; grandson, Chris (Dawn) Shoemaker of Dushore; great-grandchildren, Devin Shoemaker, Kiersten Shoemaker, Joe Chek, Benjamin Richardson, Jayson Richardson; sisters, Pauline Hilliker, Beverly Morgan, Judith Ferguson, Edith Brown, Sylvia Teeter; brothers, Kenneth Quail, Francis Wayne Quail, Dann Quail, Lloyd James Bailey, Delbert Bailey; a special niece, Carolyn Weightman; and by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: two sisters, Ruth Conrad and Elva Crofut; by two brothers, Ellery Quail and infant Melvin Quail. ROHE –GRACE ELIZABETH ROHE TEETER, 77, of Dushore RR 2 died Thursday,
Aug. 10, 1995, in Robert packer Hospital, Sayre. She was the mother
of two Lycoming County residents. Her husband, Ivan O. Teeter, died in
1993. Born Sept. 24, 1917, in Towanda, she was a daughter of Leroy and
Mary Rohe. Surviving are seven sons, Paul Rohe of Rushville, Robert Bender
of South Williamsport, Richard Bender of Montgomery, Arthur and Leslie
Bender, both of Dushore, Donald Bender of Wilmot and Gary Bender of Marysville;
a daughter, Patricia Kelly of LaPorte; three brothers, Lawrence and Melvin
Rohe, both of Dushore, and Donald Rohe of Overton; several grandchildren
and great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral
will be at 11 a.m. Monday at McHenry's, 119 Carpenter St., Dushore, with
the Rev. Robert W. Martin, pastor of Redeemer United Church of Christ,
Dushore, officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Reformed Cemetery, Overton
Township, Bradford County. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7

SALSBURY –MRS. MARGUERITE MOLNEUX, 62, of Overton (New Albany RD 2) died Wednesday morning at Memorial Hospital, Towanda, following a lingering illness. She was born March 19, 1924 in Albany Township, the daughter of James and Leftie Drake Salisbury. She had lived most of her life in the Albany and Overton areas and attended the Laddsburg Community Church. She was employed by the Dar-Way Nursing Home in Estella, retiring in 1986. Surviving are her husband, Meredith at home; two daughters, Mrs. Nicholas (Joan) Smith of Santa Anna, Calif., Mrs. Douglas (Mary) Bragg of Overton; nephew, Charles (George) Johnson of Evergreen; sister, Pearl Johnson of Wilmot, three grandchildren and several nieces. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home 119 Carpenter St., Dushore with the Rev. Sam Jordan, pastor of the Laddsburg Community Church officiating. SHERMAN - Elizabeth Jane S. Rohe, age 77, of Forks Township, Dushore, Pa., peacefully went home to be with her Lord surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Towanda, Pa. She was born on April 29, 1930, in Cherry Township, Sullivan County, Pa., a daughter of the late Carl and Evelyn Beaver Sherman. On May 8, 1948, she married her husband Melvin Eugene Rohe, Sr., at Redeemer United Church of Christ in Dushore. Elizabeth and Melvin would have been celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. She has been a lifetime resident of the Dushore area. She is a member of St. Paul's Church of Overton, and was a member of the Women's Guild. Elizabeth enjoyed her time spent crocheting. She liked bird watching, and she took great pleasure in the wonders of nature around her home. She was very devoted to her family and grandchildren, and was always most willing to help whenever needed. She leaves surviving her husband: Melvin E. Rohe, Sr., at home; Joyce A. Rohe of Dushore, Susan (James) Swingle of Dushore, Melvin E. (Joan) Rohe, Jr. of Dushore; by sisters and brothers: Elsie Fassett of New Albany, Clara Weaver of Wysox, Lawrence Sherman of Burlington, Regina Carrington of Rome; by her five grandchildren: Randy Rohe of Dushore, twins: Jason Swingle of Dushore, Niki Swingle of Forksville, Rodney Rohe of Dushore, Brian Rohe of Dushore; and by great grandchildren: Skyler Carpenter and James Carpenter. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by an infant brother. VOUGH - H. Grace Vough Treaster, 90, of Dushore (Forks Township), Pa., died on April 14, 2008, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. She was born on Nov. 4, 1917 in Overton, Pa., a daughter of the late Ira D. and Helen M. (Musselman) Vough. She is a graduate of New Albany High School. On May 19, 1938, Grace married Luther A. Treaster. Her husband preceded her in death on May 9, 1983. Grace was a member of St. Paul's Church. She also served on the Sullivan County Election Board, and was an avid reader. She found great pleasure in her time spent with the Millview Missionary Society quilting. She leaves surviving: her children, Allen L. (Delores) Treaster of Julian, Pa., Vernon L. (Sandra) Feaster of Green Valley, Ariz., Paul C. (Darla) Treaster of Dushore, Pa.; granddaughter, Terri Olcott; grandson, Scott A. Treaster; granddaughter, Tamara Heess; and a great grandson, Joshua Heess. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by brothers: Lynn M. Vough and Clair F. Vough. WARBURTON –MRS. MARJORIE WORTHINGTON age 73 of New Albany died
at the home of her daughter, Linda Sheldon in Laceyville on Thursday evening,
May 1, 1997 surrounded by her family. She was born in Overton on
Nov. 11, 1923 a daughter of the late Gordon and Jennie Stray Warburton.
She graduated from New Albany High School class of 1941 and later graduated
from Scranton-Lackawanna School in 1951. Marjorie operated her own
accounting and tax preparation business in New Albany and for several years
was a Justice of the Peace in New Albany. She was a member of the
St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Overton and at one time a member
of the church consistory. In her spare time she enjoyed being surrounded
by her many friends and her family. She enjoyed her many trips all
over the world and especially her special trips to Atlantic City and Las
Vegas. She was very devoted to her grandchildren, following their
sporting events and also their school activities. She is survived
by; her twin daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Robert Dibble Jr. of New
Albany and Linda and Benjamin Sheldon of Laceyville; her five grandchildren,
Bryant and Breanne Dibble and Gabriel, Zachary and Caleb Sheldon; a niece,
Donna Ritz of Manlius, N.Y.; a stepdaughter and her husband, Joan and Bernard
Finn of Bradford, N.Y.; a step-grandson, Shawn Finn of Corning, N.Y.; a
step-granddaughter and husband Kathie and Vaughn Drake of Canisteo, N.Y.
and a step-great-grandson, Devon Drake. Besides her husband, she
was also predeceased by a sister, Doris Whitely Warburton; two brothers,
Donald and Raymond Warburton and a step-grandson, Joseph Finn. A
private service will be held at the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ
in Overton with her pastor, the Rev. Robert Martin officiating. Interment
will be in St. Paul’s Reformed Cemetery in Overton. It was Marjorie’s
request that there be no calling hours. The family will furnish flowers,
however, those wishing may make memorial donations to the St. Paul’s United
Church of Christ, c/o Mr. Ed Johnson, RR 3, Box 256, Towanda, Pa. or to
the Bradford Co. Cancer Society, 413 S. Main St., Athens, Pa. or to the
Divine Providence Cancer Center, Williamsport, Pa. or to the charity of

EVERLING - Mrs. Catherine Everling Ferrell, age 94, of Dushore,
Pa., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at the Lock Haven Hospital,
Lock Haven, Pa.
Catherine was born at home in Forks Township on Oct. 15, 1915, a daughter
of the late George N. and Minnie Epler Everling. She was educated at the
Black Creek School and married Eugene "Chuck" Ferrell on June 4, 1934.
He predeceased her on June 6, 1989, after 55 years of marriage. Catherine
helped Chuck with their farm chores her entire life and also worked for
many years as the floor walker at the former(s) Weldon Mfg. Co of Lopez,
Sull-Craft Mfg. Co. and the Dushore Lingerie of Dushore, Pa. She was a
loving wife, mother and grandmother and great grandmother. She was
a member of St. Basil's Catholic Church and a member of St. Basil's St.
Francis Altar and Rosary Society. She was a loyal Republican and served
at the Election Board in Dushore for many years. She also was involved
with the Sullivan County American Cancer Society and the Cancer Loan Closet
in Dushore and almost every Bloodmobile. Surviving are: two daughters
and sons-in-law, Lois and Robert Bond, Lancaster, Pa. and Jean Anne and
Richard Plotts, Lock Haven, Pa.; four grandchildren, Robert (Julie) Bond
Jr., Lebanon, Pa., Mary T. (Ronald) Lawhead, Lancaster, Pa., Jennifer (Clifford)
Winters, Lancaster. Pa. and Scott Plotts, Lock Haven, Pa.; ten great-grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Leon
Everling and Daniel Everling; and a sister, Genevieve Slater. A transferal
service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29 at the P. Dean
Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, Pa., and will be followed by
a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Basil's Church, Dushore, Pa.,
with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, her pastor, presiding. Interment will
be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Overton, Pa. Friends may
call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Homer Funeral
Home. Members of St. Basil St Francis Altar and Rosary society will recite
the Rosary at 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon at the funeral home.
The family will provide the flowers and Memorial contributions can be directed

HEDDENS - Joy I. Heddens Snell, 78, of 2627 Route 87, Hillsgrove,
died Sunday, October 12, 2008 at the Williamsport Hospital.
She was born May 25, 1930 in Millville, the daughter of Louis Stewart
and Mary Anna Moser Heddens. Joy was a 1948 graduate of Montoursville High
School and active participant in alumni affairs. She was a member of St.
Francis Xavier Church in Overton; she attended and volunteered at the Union
Church in Hillsgrove. Joy was an active member of the Hillsgrove Community
Club for 58 years and also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She worked
at Darway Nursing Home, Judge of elections for Sullivan County, and lastly
worked for the Foster Grandparent Program, caring for Head Start children.
Joy was on the Bradford-Sullivan County Board of Area Agency on Aging.
She had a love for cooking and cooked for The 10X Hunting Camp for 30 plus
years. Joy enjoyed baking, sewing, bingo, cards, family, and was known
for her banana bread. She loved to travel, which was inherited from her
mother, Mary, who traveled to all 50 states of the United States. She loved
Branson, Missouri and shared her time with many. She was a selfless loving
mother, grandmother, and caregiver to many. Joy was predeceased by her
husband, James Douglas; a son, James Douglas Snell; and two brothers, Russel
and Donald Heddens. Surviving her are two sons, Michael J. (Deb) of Hoppestown
and David J. (Sandy) of Clarion; six daughters, Kathleen A. Vandine of
Nordmont, Patricia A. (Rancy) Pepper of Granville Summit, Carol A. (Fiance-Bruce
Miller) MacElhaney of Hillsgrove, Rebecca A. (Zane) Bagley of Shunk, Elizabeth
A. (Greg) Barker of New Kensington, and Lt. Col. Darlene McCurdy of Douglasville,
GA; a brother, Kenneth (Nada) Heddens of Williamsport; twenty-eight grandchildren
and twenty-two great-grandchildren, with three on the way. A Memorial Service
of Remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at
the St. Francis Xavier Church, RR 2, Overton, PA. Interment will follow
in the St. Francis Xavier Church Cemetery. Friends will be received on
Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St.,

OLPTER –ROSE OLPTER DUNFEE, 63, wife of William L. Dunfee of Overton Township, formerly a 30 year resident of Edgewater, Md., died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at the Robert Packer Hospital, in Sayre. Born Dec. 18, 1939, in Oakdale, Pa., she was the only child of the late Joseph and Rose Zafeya Olpter. Rose was a graduate of West Allegheny High School, Imperial, Pa., Class of 1957. On Feb. 19, 1966, she married William L. Dunfee at Oxon Hill, Md. Rose was employed by the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Md., for many years until her retirement in 1994. She was a member of the American Legion Post No. 996 Auxiliary, in Dushore. Surviving are: her husband of 37 years, William L. Dunfee; her son, Reed Dunfee of Solomons, Md.; her daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and David Bailey of Edgewater; and her grandson, Christopher Bailey. A graveside memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 13, at 11:30 a.m. at the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Overton. MARSHALL - Miss Genevieve Ann Marshall, 74, New Albany RD 3,
Forks Township, died April 28, 1975. Born April 6, 1901 in Overton
Township, Sullivan County, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Kelly
Marshall. She attended school in Sullivan County and continued her education
at Bloomsburg State Teachers College. She taught school for many years
and was also active in farming until her retirement. She was a member
of St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, Overton, and a member of its
Altar and Rosary Society. Surviving are three brothers, Lawrence of Millport,
N.Y. Aloysius of Dushore and Ivan of Sayre; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held this morning (Thursday) at 9:15 a.m. from
the Regina Tubach Homer Funeral Home, Dushore, followed by the Mass of
Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, Overton. Burial

JAMES D. SNELL, 75, Hillsgrove RR 1 died August 10, 1994 at home after a long battle with cancer. Born April 13, 1919 in Hoppestown, he was a son of Merton R. and Anastasia Morris Snell. Mr. Snell was a life member and one of the founders of the Hillsgrove Fire Company and the Hillsgrove TV Association, a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Overton, an avid hunter, and former guide for bear hunts in the Hillsgrove area and Lycoming County. He and his brother, Bernard R. Snell operated a family dairy farm in the Hillsgrove area from 1943 until retirement in 1979. His brother died in January. Surviving are two sons, Michael of Hillsgrove and David of Clarion; six daughters, Kathleen Vandine of Nordmont, Patricia Pepper of Granville Summit, Carol MacElhaney of Hillsgrove, Rebecca Bagley of Shunk, Elizabeth Baker of New Kensington and Capt. Darlene McCurdy, stationed at Enterprise Alabama, with the National Guard; two sisters, Eileeen Stroble of sterling, AK and Elfreda McCarty of Hillsgrove; 27 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A son, James Douglas Snell died in 1952. The funeral was held Aug. 13 in the St. Francis Xavier Church with the Rev. Joseph Conboy, former priest officiating. SNELL –V. ELFREDA MCCARTY, 91, Hillsgrove, died on Thursday Oct.
28, 2004. She was born on Aug. 23, 1913 in Procter, the daughter
of Merton R. and Anastasia M. Morris Snell. Elfreda was a member
of St. Basil’s Catholic Church in Dushore. She is survived by three
sons, John F. of Barbours, James D. of Colley and William R. McCarty of
Bentley Creek; eight daughters, Vivian E. McCarty of Hillsgrove, Patricia
A. McCarty of Dushore, Nancy A. Romano of Cherry Mills, Virginia R. St.
Clair of Dillsburg, Nellie A. Pennella of Hillsgrove, Sharon M. Pedro of
New Albany, Constance A. Bogart of Estella, Mary G. Hoppes of Hillsgrove
and one sister, M. Eileen Strouble of California. Elfreda was predeceased
by her husband, J. Francis McCarty; two sons, Wilbur F. and Guy D. McCarty;
three brothers, Bernard, Douglas and Wilbur; and one sister, Hilda Deiter.
Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic
Church, Overton, with the Rev. Bert S. Kozen officiating. There will
be no visitation. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
