Wellsboro Agitator - December 23, 1908
Miss Sarah M. Bloom, aged 66, widow of the late William Bloom, died at the home of her son, Mr. G. H. Bloom, in Deerfield, on Dec. 14.  Besides the son named, she is survived by three sisters and two brothers - Mrs. A. J. Gleason, Mrs. Diana Vinson and William Grover, all of Lawrenceville.  Mrs. Phoebe Niles, of Corning and Sidney Grover, of Tompkins.  The cause of Mrs. Bloom's death was heart disease. The funeral was held last Wednesday; burial in the Butler Hill cemetery.

BOLLEN - JELLIFF, Fannie Ida Bollen
92, formerly of Butler Hill Road, Knoxville, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Broad Acres Health & Rehabilitation Center, Wellsboro, PA. Born in Woodhull, NY, April 21, 1916, she is the daughter of Walter and Mabel Mather Bollen. She married Charles "Ed" Jelliff, February 1, 1941 who predeceased her on December 20, 2001. A graduate of Woodhull High School, she was a homemaker who dearly loved her Lord, her family, and her friends. She loved people and to her there were no strangers, just friends she hadn't yet met. Survivors are three sons, Ernie (Ruthie) of Wellsboro, Russell and Harold (Sandy), both of Knoxville; three daughters, Mabel (Dick) Carl of Knoxville, Martha (Jim) Emery of Lakeland, FL and Margaret (Ken) Whitsell of Knoxville; stepdaughter, Donna (Melvin) King of Mansfield, PA; stepdaughter-in-law, Elaine Jelliff of Holliday, PA; 33 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Diane (Russell) Jelliff; stepson, Robert (Elaine); and sister, Gladys Carr of Osceola. There will be no public visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Daybreak Ministries Worship Center conducted by her son, Rev. Ernie Jelliff, and her grandson, Rev. Ed Jelliff. BROWN Staley A. "Pete"

Age 88, of #1202 Croft Hollow Road, Osceola, PA died Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at the home of his daughter, Sonja Hall. He was born April 9, 1923 in Kittanning, PA, the son of Alvin and Lucy Brummett Brown. Pete retired after working for "35" years for Ingersoll- Rand. He was a member of Butler Hill Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army who served during WWII. He is survived by son, Staley Douglas "Sinda" Brown, Osceola, PA, daughters, Bonnita "Donald" Gilman, Little Marsh, PA, Margie "Tom" Lockwood, Tioga, PA, Marqueen "Ron" Roe, Tioga, Pa, Sonja "Gary" Hall, Wellsboro, PA, Leah "Paul" Patt, Wellsboro, PA; brother, Arlington "Lucille" Brown, Wellsboro, PA; sister, Esther Willard, Wellsboro, PA; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was born August 27, 1922, in Corning, NY, the daughter of George and Edna Hakes Burguess. She was a homemaker. She worked for many years for Fay's Drugs, Painted Post, NY. She was a member of the "Over 63 Club," Elkland, PA. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, James and Rosaland Webster, RD., Osceola, PA, Gary and Laura Webster, Gillette, PA, Michael and Joanne Druetto, Batesville, MS; son and financee, Ronald Druetto and Beverly Bartlett, Sykesville, MD; sisters, Sarah Wood, South Corning, NY, Clara McChesney, Painted Post, NY; sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Darwin Cook, South Corning, NY; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. BUTLER –ESTHER B. LADD a long time resident of Elmira Heights, passed away Sat. Jan. 24, 2015 at Taylor Health Care, Bath, NY at the age of 95. Born on Feb. 3, 1919 in Knoxville, PA; Esther was the daughter of the late, Delevan & Edith Smith Butler. She was married to Lawrence Ladd in 1945 and he predeceased her in 1971. Esther was employed by the Village of Elmira Heights for over 25 years as a clerk and treasurer. She was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church and enjoyed caring for her home. Surviving are 2 step grandchildren, Larry (Patricia) Chorman and Richard (Mishele) Chorman, 4 step great grandchildren; niece, Jean Foster; nephews, Kermit (Rebecca), Daryl (Portia) and Kean (Connie) Butler. BUTLER Koeth E. Butler

Koeth E. Butler, age 78 of Osceola, PA passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013 at Williamsport Hospital. Born November 15, 1934 in Corning, NY, he is the son of the late Milton and Eva (Harrington) Butler. Koeth married Marjorie Prutsman, they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 15th. He was a lifelong farmer, Deerfield Township Supervisor for over 20 years and retired from WalMart. He was a member of the Maple City Barbershop Chorus and the Shortsville Baptist Church. Koeth enjoyed hunting, camping, 4- wheeling and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; his son, Lorry and Mary Butler of Knoxville; his daughter, LaRena and Chuck Armstrong of Germania; his four grandchildren, Erin Butler of Knoxville, Dustin and Lindsey Butler of Little Marsh, Wade Owlett of Middlebury Center and Clint and Lauren Owlett of Liberty; great grandchildren, Brayden, Sophie, Eva and Gabriel Butler and Colton, Anna and Calvin Owlett; his siblings, Rev. CALVIN –ELEANOR R. BROWN, age 79 of Knoxville passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the Williamsport General Hospital. Born December 1, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Ruth (Simpson) Calvin, Sr. She married Franklin Brown, who passed away in 1998. Eleanor was the former owner of Thurston’s Restaurant for a short time and the restaurant at the Cowanesque Valley Live Stock Market for many years. She helped with the kids after school program and many dinners at the Knoxville Community Center and was a well-known cook in the area. She was a member of the craft club at the Knoxville Public Library and a member of the Butler Hill Baptist Church. Eleanor loved to square dance, bowl, crochet and crafts. CARL – Wayne Carl, 90, of RR1, Knoxville, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 at Broad Acres Nursing Home, Wellsboro. Born March 1, 1914 in Beach Lake, he was the son of Emmett and Charlotte Olver Carl. He was a life-long farmer and a member of the Butler Hill Baptist Church. He was on the board of directors for Agway and the Dairy Herd Improvement Association; owned and operated the Osceola Sunoco station for 25 years; served as supervisor for Osceola Township for many years; was a member of Osceola Lodge #421 F&AM for over 50 years; a member of Knoxville VFW Post #6753; veteran of the United States Navy, who served in Europe as a “C.B.” during World War II. Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Winifred Stafford Carl; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Mabel Carl of Knoxville; daughter and son-in-law, Jolene and Dick Kroop of Knoxville; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister, Ruth Gingerich of Canandaiqua, NY; and several nephews. COLE Jesse - Jesse Cole, 73, of Knoxville, RD2, died at the Blossburg State Hospital Thursday, June 10, 1954. He was born in Farmington August 18, 1880. Aletha J. Doan, 95, of Knoxville, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at Bradford County Manor, Troy.  She was born Oct. 17, 1914, in Deerfield Township, the daughter of Benjamin and Blanche Edwards Daniels.  Friends are invited to call at the Kenyon Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Elkland, Monday, Dec. 7, from noon to 2 p.m., where funeral services will be held following calling hours at 2 p.m. The Rev. Dorothy Densmore will officiate. 

 

DANIELS, H.F. – H. F. Daniels died June 2, at his home in Deerfield.  He was at Knoxville May 30 and took his place with the civil war veterans in the observance of Memorial day.  Returning home he was taken sick soon after 6 o’clock that evening and continued to grow worse until he died Monday from uric acid poisoning.  H.F. Daniel was born in Deerfield, February 26, 1841, a son of Henry F. Daniels, Sr., and Esther Cloos Daniels.  He spent his whole life as a farmer near his birthplace.  July 14, 1866, he married Jerusha L. VanDusen, who died several years ago.  Mr. Daniels is survived by three sons, Fred, Benjamin and George Daniels, and one daughter, Bertha, wife of Perry Wood, all residents of Deerfield township.  He is also survived by two sisters, Mary J., widow of the late Lucian A. Mattison, and Emma, widow of the late Willard S. Carpenter.  On Lee’s invasion into Pennsylvania in 1863 Mr. Daniels joined co. G, 35th Pa. Militia, and served in the army.  He filled several offices in his township as clerk and treasurer, and was a justice of the peace.  He was an active Granger and had been connected with the Tioga County Grange Fire Insurance Company since its organization many years ago.  Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 o’clock; interment in the Butler Hill cemetery.   Wellsboro Agitator, 11 June 1919.

Charles H. Doan, aged 67 years, died Sunday at his home, Knoxville, R. D. He was a son of Sylvester C. and Polly Butler Doan and had resided all his life in Deerfield township. He was a member of the Butler Hill Baptist church and Valley Grange. Survivors include his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Marian Owlett, of Middlebury; one son, Paul, of Knoxville, R. D., and one brother, Bert L. Doan, of Addison, and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 o'clock. Rev. Robert Duza, pastor of the Butler Hill Baptist church, will officiate; burial in the Butler Hill cemetery. 

 

DOAN Donald P.

Age 89, of 406 East Main Street, Knoxville, PA died Monday, September 10, 2001 at Green Home, Wellsboro, PA. He was born January 1, 1912 in Deerfield Twp., PA the son of Bert L. and Myrtle A. Palmer Doan. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1930. He married Doris Wass July 3, 1932. He was a farmer for many years and worked at Ingersoll-Rand, Painted Post as a pipe fitter for 24 years where he retired. He was a carpenter and a electrician. He was a member of Butler Hill Baptist Church where he attended since he was a little boy. He had been a teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon. He was a lifetime member of the Corning Area Bible Club board where he had been very active, working at Bible Club Camp for over 50 years. After retirement he spent six months of the year in Florida where he learned wood carving and had many friends there. Donald was a born again Christian. His life was His Lord, His Family and His Bible. He is survived by: his wife of 69 years, Doris; daughters, Marilyn (Edwin) Tuttle, Knoxville, PA, Connie (Tom) Depp, Knoxville, PA, Donna (Richard) Hartman, Knoxville, PA, Carol Ann (Donald) Tshudy Sabinsville, PA, Charlene (Mike) Clark, Cowanesque, PA; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Emma) Doan, Spartensburg, NC; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Donald Cary and great grandson, Robert Cary. Friends are invited ti call at the Kenyon Funeral Home, Elkland, PA. Mrs. Eliza Baird aged 67 years, recently of Deerfield township, died Sundav afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Floyd Stratton, in Corning, of creeping paralysis.  She went to Corning about three months ago.  Besides her daughter, she is survived by one son, Jacob H Baird, of Galeton, one sister, Mrs. Mary Holiday, of Holiday, Pa , and two brothers, John Doan, of Holiday, and Sylvester Doan of Deerfield.  A praver service was held at the home on Bridge street, at 8 o'clock Monday evening, and the body was taken yesterday to Deerfield for burial.

Death of Mrs. Nathan Baird.
Mrs. Eliza Baird, aged 87, widow of the late Nathan Baird, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nettie Stratton, in Corning, on Nov. 13, of creeping paralysis. She was born May 19, 1843. She was married June 12. 1872, and was the mother of three children-Nettie, John and Nellie.  Nellie died at the age of 5 months.  She was also a good mother to four step-children; one of these girls died about 30 years ago.  She is survived by two children, Mrs. Nettie Stratton, of Corning, and John Baird, of Galeton; also three stepchildren, Mrs. Elmira Churchill, of Middlebury; Mr. Elmer Baird, of Beaver Dams, N.Y.; also one sister, Mrs. Mary Holiday, of Middlebury, and two brothers, Jacob Doan, of Middlebury, and Sylvester Doan, of Deerfield, besides several grandchildren and a host of friends.  She was a member of the Owlett M. E church. The body was brought from Corning Tuesdav night and funeral services were held Wednesday, at 2 p. m. , at the Butler Hill church; interment in Butler Hill cemetery.

DOAN - Ernest Frank Doan, 30, of Deerfield Twp. died February 18, 1958. He was a former and trucker. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Root Doan; sons, Ernest Frank Jr. and Dana Charles, both at home; parents, Mr. & Mrs. Henry Doan of Farmington; brothers, Loren Doan of Nelson and Dean Doan of Knoxville RD; sisters, Mrs. Waldo Wood of Knoxville, Mary Jane and Barbara Jean Doan, both at home; grandmother, Mrs. Ernest Case of Cowanesque. The body will be removed to the home of the parents, Mr. & Mrs. Henry Doan on Thursday. Funeral there on Friday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. R. Drehmer of Knoxville and Rev. GORDON P. DOAN
                Gordon P. Doan, 73, of Knoxville RR 1 died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro.  Born Jan. 20, 1927, in Deerfield Township, he was the son of Williard and Marjorie Wood Doan.  He was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Valley Grange.   Preceding him in death were brothers Leslie and Carroll; and sisters Sybil, Patty  and Kathryn. Knoxville – Herman E. Doan, 64, died Friday at the home of his son, Hugh Doan, of Osceola, just 15 days after the death of his wife, Mrs. Frances Butler Doan.  Mr. Doan had been in poor health for about 15 years. Born in Little Marsh, he was the son of James E. and Martha Losey and had lived in this vicinity his entire life.  Mr. Doan was a member of the Presbyterian Church.  In addition to his son, Hugh, he leaves another son, Otto Doan, of Knoxville; a brother, Vernie Doan, of Keeneyville, and three grandchildren.  The funeral was held Monday, with the Rev. Robert Cocks, pastor of the Elkland and Osceola Presbyterian Churches, officiating; burial in Butler Hill Cemetery.

(Pete) Doan, 74, of RD 2, Westfield, Pa died Sunday, March 4. 1984 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre.  He was born Nov 12, 1909 in Osceola, Pa. to Herman E. and Frances (Butler) Doan.  He was a retired lineman for the Rural Electric Association. He was involved in Scouting for over 50 years and had been awarded the Silver Beaver.  Surviving are his wife, the former Gladys Bartlett; daughters, Mrs. Patricia Marzo of Elkland and Mrs. Kathleen Giantomasi of Elkland; grandchildren. A graduate of Charlestown High School, he was formerly employed at Elkland, Leather Co., operated a dairy farm & retired as the proprietor of Jelliff Appliance & Refrigerator Service. He was a member of the Butler Hill Baptist Church. He married Frannie Bollen February 1, 1942, she survives. Also surviving are three sons, Ernest W. Jelliff of Wellsboro, PA, Russell D. Jelliff of Knoxville, PA and Harold P. Jelliff of Osceola, PA; three daughters, Mabel Carl of Knoxville, PA, Martha Emery of Lakeland, FL and Margaret Whitsell of Knoxville, PA; sisters, Dorothy Priset of Cherry Flats, PA and Rose Geneski of Deland, FL; 37 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins. Surrounded by her six daughters and her faithful dog Dottie, Sandra K. Trowbridge, of Milliken, Colo., peacefully died on Saturday, May 1, 2010, after battling cancer for two years. Sandra was born on May 11, 1950, in Wellsboro, to Leland and Mary Davis King. She grew up in Pennsylvania and married Wayne Emerson Trowbridge on Dec. 9, 1968. Sandra was known for her love of gardening. She loved baking and cooking for a large crowd, she never could cook for just two. She worked for numerous years at Bruce's Bar in Severance, Colo., doing any task put in front of her. She is survived by her six girls, Annette and Kevin Treat of Saratoga, Wy., Dianna Trowbridge and Bill Grove of Westminster, Colo., Maria and Greg Johnson of Saratoga, Wy., Corina and Keith Hendren of Phoenix, Ariz., Amy Trowbridge and Scott Rowell of Loveland, Colo., Ann and Russell Martin of Hayden, Colo.; siblings, Melvin King of Mansfield, Linda Cochran of Wellsboro, Marjorie Bergh and Gary King, both of Middlebury Center. Mr. Abijah Kizer, a civil war veteran, aged 65, died suddenly at his home in Deerfield township on Sunday forenoon of heart disease.  He had been in ill health for some time, but of late had been feeling better.  The deceased is survived by his wife (nee Charlotte Butler), by his son, Clarence, and by his daughter, Mrs. Maria Westmiller, all of Deerfield.

Butler Hill, Jan. 10 - Clarence Kizer, of Galeton, died at his home Tuesaay morning and was brought to Butler Hill Thursday, where the funeral was held at the church at 11 a m., Rev. A. M. Young officiating. Several members of the lodges to whic he belonged attended the funeral. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Weeks Kizer, and three daughters, Grace, Villa and Clara who was married in November to Walter Smith, of Galeton; also one sister, Mrs. Henry Westmiller, of Butler Hill.

Mrs. George Bloom - Mrs. Margaret Bloom, aged 76 years, of Knoxville died Thursday July 30, after a long illness.  She was born at Butler Hill, PA., April 8, 1866, daughter of Abijah and Charlotte Butler Kizer.  Her life had been spent in the vicinity of Butler Hill and Knoxville.  Besides her husband, she is survived by the following sons and daughters by a former marriage:  Guy Westmiller, of Covington; Thomas Westmiller of Fairport, N.Y.; Miss Nina Westmiller, of Corning, and Mrs. Charlotte Hemingway, of Middleport, N.Y., and several grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  The funeral was held Saturday at the Butler Hill Baptist Church.  Rev. Frank Davis, of Montour Falls, a former pastor of the Knoxville Baptist church of which Mrs. Bloom was a member, officiating; burial in the Butler Hill Cemetery.

 

KIZER, Mortimer J. – Mortimer J. Kizer, aged 26 years, died at his home at Butler Hill Tuesday morning, Jan. 14, of influenza, after a week’s illness.  He married Miss Mary Hurd Oct. 17, 1917, who survived him with an infant son, Kenneth.  He is also survived by his father, Seldon Kizer, and step-mother.  He was a member of Knoxville Lodge, No. 271, I.O.O.F., also of Valley Grange, No. 876.  The funeral was held last Thursday at his home, Rev. Mr. Chidester, of Addison, officiating; interment in the Butler Hill cemetery.  His death is mourned by a host of friends.   Wellsboro Agitator, 5 Feb 1919.

The funeral of Ned James Kizer, of Elkland, was held Friday at the Kenyon Funeral Home.  Mr. Kizer, aged 62 years, died Jan. 26, at the Arnot-Ogden Hospital in Elmira. Mr. Kizer was born in Deerfield and had been a resident of Elkland for many years, where he was employed by the Elkland Leather Company.  Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Don C. Near, of Batavia; a son, James, of the U. S. Marines, and three sisters, Mrs. Emma Persing, of Knoxville; Mrs. Nellie Horton, of Corning, and Mrs. Alice Tubbs; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Seldon David KIZER
The funeral of Seldon David Kizer, 83, who died Friday was held Monday at Evans funeral home with interment in Butler cemetery.  The Rev. Walter C. Brown officiated. Mr. Kizer has been in poor health since last February.  Born in Deerfield, the son of James and Martha Grover Kizer, he lived there until May 15, 1926, when he retired and moved here. Mr. Kizer was long a member of Academy Corners Grange and the Butler Hill Church.  He was affiliated with the Church of Christ here. 68 of Gee's Mobile Home Park, Wellsboro, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre.  She was born Aug. 12, 1942, in Corning, N.Y., the daughter of the late Oscar and Dorothy Sharp Pelham.  She received her Associates Degree from Pennsylvania College of Technology in 1994. Carolyn was a member of the Holliday Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and enjoyed crocheting. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, making homemade Christmas presents and talking on the phone. She was very involved with her church.  Surviving are sons, Jay (Rachelle) Jelliff of Newfield, N.Y., Ed (Cheryl) Jelliff of Roaring Spring; daughters, Annette (Don) Avery of Millerton, Julie (Curt) Olinger of Bruceton Mills, W.Va.; sister, Lena (Emerson) Ross of Ft. Seely, of Knoxville, died Nov. 28.  He was born in Deerfield, Sept. 16, 1852, son of Ebenezer and Almira Lawton Seely.  He married on March 19, 1876, Miss Mary Taylor, of Deerfield, who died 14 years ago.  Survivors include four sons:  Herbert L. Seely, of Academy Corners; Claude E. Seely, of Emporium; Harry W. Seely, of Owego, N.Y., and Clifton Seely, of Knoxville; one brother, Edwin Seely, of Wellsboro; one sister, Mrs. Susie Husted, of Emporium; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  Funeral services were held Friday, Rev. Born Jan. 10, 1932, in Delmar Township, she was the daughter of the late Wallace A. and Vivian (Stradley) Spencer.She is survived by her sisters, Joanne Higley of Williamsport; Jacquelyn Clark of Waverly, N.Y., Nancy (Larry) Mosher of Little Marsh and a half-brother, Winchester Spencer of Salem, Ore.  Jeane was preceded in death by her husband, Tyler in 1981; her son, Wallace and a brother, Christopher Spencer. A memorial service will be held at Kenyon Funeral Home, 214 W. Main St., Elkland, on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 11: a.m., with the Rev. Dorothy Densmore officiating. SUTTON ELANSON DEFOREST

Elanson Sutton, a life-long resident of Deerfield, died at his home in that township, on the road between Academy Corners and Little Marsh, Friday, May 15, 1925, after a lingering illness.  He was born near Lawrenceville January 3, 1851, the oldest son of the late Isaac Sutton, and he was the last of five sons.  Mr. Sutton's wife died about twenty-eight years ago.  He is survived by one daughter, Lilla, wife of Byron Wetmore, and two grandsons, who are twins, and reside on the farm where Mr. Sutton died.  He is also survived by four sisters, Jane, wife of Leonard Thompson, of Jasper, NY; Lettie, wife of John Howland, of Deerfield; Mary, wife of William Wilcox, of Sabinsville, and Robie, wife of Joe Trimmer, of Westfield.  Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the 1 o'clock from the house, Rev. Willis, of Little Marsh, officiating, and the interment was in the family plot in Butler Hill Cemetery.  The services at the grave were conducted by the I.O.O.F. Lodge of Knoxville, of which order Mr. Sutton was a charter member.  Mr. Sutton was a farmer and one of the best and cleanest on his road.  He was a man of quiet disposition, honest and upright, and had many friends, and his funeral was largely attended.  Rev. Davenport, of Butler Hill church, and sang two very pretty pieces on the funeral occasion.  The bereaved family have the sympathy of a large circle of friends, who new Mr. Sutton...

SUTTON LUCY JANE “JENNIE”
SUTTON - Mrs. Leonard Thompson. (From Canisteo Chronicle)
Mrs. Leonard Thompson diedat her home Thursday, Oct. 22, at 5 p.m., after an illness of seven weeks of blood poisoning and other complications, from which she was a great sufferer. Mrs. Thompson had been in failing health all summer. She was the daughter of the late Isaac and Hulda Sutton and was born in Nelson, Pa., Jan. 7, 1853. She was united in marriage to Leonard Thompson May 2, 1880.   Fifteen years ago Mr. and Mrs. Thompson moved to Jasper from East Troupsburg. They purchased the farm of Isaac White, better known Vial farm, about 1-2 mile from the village. Mrs. Thompson was a life long member of the Baptist Church at Knoxville, and in early life was an excellent school teacher. She was a devoted wife and a kind and loving mother, and leaves many who will deeply mourn her death.  Besides her husband she is survived by four children. Mrs. Myra Baker and Mrs. Helen Rigby, of Cameron, Mrs. Hilda Ray, of Knoxville, and Herbert Thompson, of Cameron.

Mary, wife of Frank A. Seely, died at her home at Academy Corners Dec. 21. She had been in poor health for the past four years. She was 71 years old last July. Besides her husband, four sons survive, Herbert L., of Academy Corners; Claude, of Emporium, Pa.; Harry W., of Knoxville, R. D. 2, and Clifton,

of Knoxville. The funeral was held Wednesday at the Butler Hill Baptist church, Rev. W. H. Stevens, officiating; interment in the Butler Hill cemetery.

 

TEACHMAN Ella E

Wellsboro Agitator – February 20, 1918

Mrs. Ella E. Odle, of Osceola, died, Friday morning, Feb. 8, at her home in Osceola. She had been in poor health for many years, being a great sufferer from asthma. For the past few months her health failed rapidly. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. A. E. Rice, of Osceola, and eight children:  Herman E. , of Norway Ridge, N.Y.;  Herbert S. of Farmington; Dora M. Odle, of Osceola; Mrs. Jane Hurlbutt, of Little Marsh; Stephen E. of Knoxville; Francis J., of Lockport, N.Y.; Mrs. Ella Slocum, of Knoxville, and DeWitt T. Odle, of Osceola. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Mineral services were held Monday, at the Methodist church at 11 o'clock and burial in the, Butler Hill cemetery. 

    

TEACHMAN Frank C
Westfield Free Press – May 4, 1899
Frank C. Teachman died on Friday, April 28th of Farmington.  He was born April 1, 1857.  On April 16, 1881 he married Miss Frankie Curran who survives.  Two children, Harriet A. age 16 and Geo. W., age 13 years survive.  Funeral in Butler church on Monday with Rev. Frame and burial in Butler Cem.

 

VanZILE Elizabeth M. Stanley

age 83 of Osceola, PA died on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro. Born September 12, 1929 in Hornby, NY, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Violet (Young) VanZile. Elizabeth married Cecil H. Stanley, he died in 1993. She is survived by her sons, John (Beverly) Stanley of Elmira, NY and Michael Stanley of Osceola, PA; 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; a brother, George VanZile of FL; her sister, Roseanne Knowles of FL; a sister in law, Judy Stanley of Westfield, PA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil; son, Phillip; daughter, Lorraine Allen and several brothers and sisters. Family will receive friends at Kenyon Funeral Home, 214 W. Age 63, of 375 Pleasant Valley Road, Osceola, PA, diedThursday, August 9, 2007, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA. He was born July 27, 1944 in Elkland, PA, the son of Charles W. and Rose Warmus Walters. Charles graduated from Elkland High School in 1963. He worked for 22 years for Dresser-Rand and he also worked for the Elkland Leather Company and Schultz Motors. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Darlene Doan Walters; sons, Joseph Walters, R.D., Osceola, PA, Kevin Walters, Elkland, PA; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mike Vayansky, Elkland, PA; daughters, Vanessa, Grace and Alicia, at home; grandchildren, Brittani, Joseph and Rachel Walters, Sophia, Sarah and Adam Vayansky; sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Charles Sindelar, Breesport, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Samantha Walters; and a sister, Mary Preston. Sept, 10, 2001. She was a member of Butler Hill Church also a member of the Corning Area Bible Club. She is survived by daughters Marilyn Tuttle, Connie (Tom) Depp, Donna (Dick) Hartman, Carol Tshudy and Charlene (Michael) Clark, 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren, also special niece Jean Erway Tracy and nephew James Erway. Osceola, R.D. 2, March 14 - The remains of Mrs. Alice Kizer of Buffalo, were brought here for burial in the Bowen Cemetery.  Mrs. Kizer formerly resided here and was held in the highest esteem.  She is survived by three daughters, Clara, of Washington, D. C.; Cilla, of Buffalo and Grace, of Elkland and by one brother, F. G. Weeks, of Elkland.

Elkland, March 14—Mrs. AliceKizer died in Buffalo Friday, March 10-, as a result of a fall, breaking her hip. A prayer service was held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl Flurchnetz, in Buffalo, Monday, and the remains were taken to the Baptist church at Butler Hill, where the funeral was held. Mrs. Kizer is survived by three children, Mrs. Flurchuetz, of Buffalo; Mrs. Harold Clemons, of Elkland, and Mrs. Clara Smith of Washington, D. C.; three grandchildren, and one brother, Frank Weeks, of Elkland; burial at Butler Hill.

WILLIAM H. WESTMILLER
Knoxville--April 29, William Beary Westmiller, aged 73 years, of Knoxville, died at Wellsboro, Wednesday morning April 24, after a long illness.  His boyhood home was at Ludlowville, NY.  He married Margaret Kizer Sept. 17, 1884.  The funeral was held Saturday, Rev. Leon M. Hill, officiating; burial in Butler Hill cemetery.  The bearers were: L.A. Cooper, George Bloom, Ralph Carpenter, George Kirtland.  He is survived by his widow, and two sons, Guy, of Knoxville, and Thomas, of Rochester; two daughters, Mrs. Walter Hemmway of Chaffee, NY, and Miss Nina Westmiller, at home, and five grandchildren. ? COLE Lurie - 100 Years Old, Dies at Butler Hill - Mrs. Lurie Cole, centenarian, of Butler Hill, died at her home last Wednesday following a brief illness. Born in Carbondale on July 28, 1844, Mrs. Cole was married twice, her second husband, Jesse Cole surviving. Other survivors are one son, Lyman Christian, of Corning; three grandchildren, Aubrey Christian, of Wellsboro; Elmer Christian, of Corning; and Mrs. Pearl Cooper, of Gaines; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive. Funeral services held last Friday afternoon at the family home were conducted by Rev. L.C. Carpenter with burial in Butler Hill cemetery.
