SALTUS Donald Joseph
WWII Veteran - Age 88, passed through Heaven's Gate on Sunday, October
12, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, NY. Donald was born in Elmira,
NY on September 18, 1920, the son of Joseph and Alva (Scherer) Saltus who
predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his beloved wife, Adeline (Eaton)
Saltus, in May of 1999, his brother, Earl Saltus, in June of 2008, and
his brother-in-law, George Sayles in August 2003. Don was a graduate of
Southside High School and proudly served in the Army Air Force during WWII.
He worked many years for the Remington Rand until it was closed. He then
worked for Unisys until his retirement. He moved to Seneca Lake where he
spent his time building houses. He loved his family, hunting, fishing,
Seneca Lake and apple pie. His sense of humor was a joy to all who knew
him. After the death of his beloved "Addy", he moved back to Elmira where
he resided at Woodbrook. His family would like to extend sincere thanks
for the wonderful care and love he received from the staff, management
and fellow residents. Don is survived by his two sisters, Lucille Sayles
of Pine City, NY and Eileen (Elwin) Jennings of Gillett, PA; his sister-in-law,
Mildred Saltus of Van Etten, NY; his nieces and nephews and their spouses:
Jayne and Martin Bernhardt of Clifton, NJ, Jim and Reggie Sayles of Horseheads,
NY, Susan and Edgar Torres of Tampa, FL, Thom and Mirjam Jennings of Eagle
River, AK, Tim and Debbie Jennings of Albany, NY, Ron and Kay Saltus of
Cross Plains, TX, Sandy and Tom Holleran of Las Vegas, NV, Mahlon Flood
of Ithaca, NY; and many grand nieces, nephews and cousins who will all
miss their "Uncle Donnie". Family and friends are invited to call at the

October 16, 2008, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Funeral Services honoring his

on Friday, October 17th, at 11:00 a.m. in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park,

SANFORD - REYNOLDS
L. Agnes Age 85 of 110 Elizabeth Street Hornell, NY formerly of Breesport,
NY died on Tuesday January 3, 2006 at St. James Hospital in Hornell, NY.
Agnes was born July 1, 1920 in Almond , NY the daughter of the late James
and Mertie Flint Sanford. Mrs. Reynolds was a retired Nurse's Aide at The
Chemung County Nursing Facility in Elmira, NY. She was also an assistant
dietician at Bethesda Hospital in Hornell, NY after moving to Canisteo.
Agnes was a former member of The Breesport United Methodist Church and
the Breesport Fireman's Auxiliary. Agnes was pre-deceased by her husband,
Donald B. Reynolds, on January 6, 1996 and her son, David Reynolds, on
August 29, 1965. She was also pre-deceased by her brother and sisters Paul
Sanford, Pearl Sanford, and Beverly Bailey. She loved her family and friends
and cherished the time she spent with them. Agnes is survived by her loving
children: Larry & Dorothy Reynolds of Kingston, NY, Donna & Richard
Ruhmel of Lutz, Florida, Linda & Charles Hughes of Canisteo, NY, and
Denis & Bridget Reynolds of Almond, NY; nine grandchildren and five
great grandchildren; brother: Robert Sanford of Hornell, NY; several nieces,
nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends including her long-time
friend Marjorie Bleecker Kuleszo of Romulus, NY. Relatives and friends
are invited to call at the Lynch Funeral Home 318 West Broad Street Horseheads,
NY on Thursday January 5, 2006 from 3-6 PM. Mrs. Reynold's Funeral and
Committal Services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours. Interment
in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Elmira, NY at the convenience of the family.

Barbara S. Age 79, formerly of Sayre, PA, died Monday, August 6, 2001
at the Robert Packer Hospital after a short illness. Born in Elmira, NY,
November 16, 1921, the daughter of Henry and Alice Park Sayles and attended
Elmira Business Institute. She was predeceased by her husband, George D.
McCann on October 12, 1986. She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline
Kilmore of Waverly, NY; and her daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and
Kenneth Green of Sayre, PA; Regina and David Engle of Sayre, PA and Arletta
and Kevin Harper of Michigan; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held there at 1:00 PM at the Forrest Lawn Cemetery,
563 Jerusalem Hill Rd., Elmira, NY, with her Pastor, Rev. Anne Canfield

SCOTT Margaret
CLARKE Margaret Scott Davis "Marge" Age 86, of Elmira, NY, died Monday,
March 27, 2006, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Marge was born
August 16, 1919 in Elmira to the late Ralph and Blanche Scott and resided
in the Chemung County area her whole life, retiring as a waitress from
Armend's Texas Hots after 20 years of service. Marge is survived by her
daughters, Gayle Smith and Barbara (Leonard) Grant; her son, Richard Davis;
grandchildren, Kathleen (Thomas) Collins, Timothy and Jeffery Smith, Michael
Crawley, Jason (Keila) Taylor and Debra Davis; and great-grandchildren,
Jasmine and Jayla Taylor. Marge was also predeceased by her daughter, Brenda
Taylor; and son-in-law, Richard Smith. Friends and family are invited to
visit on Friday, March 31st, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the James D. Barrett
Funeral Home, 1004 Lake St., Elmira, where a funeral service will follow

RICHARD W. SCOTT
Richard W. Scott, 88, Pine City, NY died Wednesday, January 23,
1991 at Arnot-Ogden Hospital in Elmira. Mr. Scott was a retired employee
of American LaFrance and a lifetime member of the Pine City Volunteer Fire
Department. He is survived by daughters, Eva Arnold of Pine City, NY, Rita
Lauper of Millport, NY, Charlotte Lee of Troy, PA; son, Richard G. Scott
of UT; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Verna Conklin
of Avinger, TX; brother, Theodore Scott of Elmira, NY; step-father, Charles
Wilson of Montour Falls, NY. He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Scott
and a daughter, Frances Lee. Services were held January 23 at the Olthof
Funeral Home in Elmira with the Rev. Robert Searle officiating and interment

SEELEY Floyd James Jr. Age 64 formerly of Horseheads, NY died on Sunday September 30, 2001 at Troy Community Hospital. Mr. Seeley was born January 23, 1937 in Canton, PA the son of the late Floyd Lewis Seeley and Lena Harriett Scarvani Seeley. Floyd was a veteran of the Korean War serving his country with the US Army and a member of Clarence R. Oliver American Legion Post #154 in Elmira Heights, NY. He was a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads. Floyd was a retired accounting clerk with the U.S. Post Office in Elmira, NY. SEELEY Stephen F. Jr.
Of Elmira, NY - Age 59, was born March 23, 1949 in Elmira, NY, the
son of the late Stephen Frank and Virginia Belle (Lusk) Seeley Sr., went
home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at his home surrounded
by his loving family. His brothers, Robert Seeley and Richard Swartwood
predeceased him. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Overstrom) Seeley;
adored children, Richard (Sheila) Seeley of Havelock, NC; Carrie Ann (Brendan)
Mullahy of Middle Village, NY; Sarah Seeley of Binghamton, NY; Jenna Seeley
of Elmira Heights, NY; beloved step-children, Jennifer (Greg) Schoffner
of Beaver Dams, NY; Julie Whitehouse of Corning, NY; David Cook of NC;
much loved siblings, Fayne (Kingley) Passmore of Centerville, PA; Floyd
(Jeanne) Seeley of Horseheads, NY; Arthur (Janet) Swartwood of Horseheads,
NY; Douglas (Cindy) Swartwood of Honeyoe Lake, NY; along with eight lovely

technician with the J. C. Ehrlich company for 17 years. He was an outdoorsman

SEGUR –PHYLLIS JANE JOHNSTON, 69, Elmira, NY died at home, October 26, 1998. Born in Canton, March 18, 1929, she was the daughter of Albert and Laurissa (Woodward) Segur. She attended Canton Schools, later moving to Elmira. She was a volunteer at Arnot Ogden Medical Center and had done volunteer work for Southern Tier Hospice and Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Johnston loved her grandchildren and enjoyed traveling, doll and figurine collecting. Surviving are: daughter and son-in-law, Vivian Jane and Gary A. Ladd, Whitmore Lake, MI; grandsons; Nathaniel A. Ladd and Jonathan R. Ladd; sisters; Harriet Mills, Elmira and Marlene Jones, Roaring Branch and Beverly Aston, Alba; brother; Tracey I. Segur, Buckhannon, WVA; several nieces and nephews. Predeceasing her were her husband Russell L. Johnston; son, Ronald Johnston; and brother Elwyn Segur. SEMSKI Edwin F., Sr. Age 81, of Elmira, NY, and Hudson, FL, died Monday, May 22, 2006, in Hudson, FL. Ed was born in Elmira, NY, son of the late John and Margaret (Gates) Semski. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Donald and John Semski; sister-in-law, Joyce Semski; spouses, Vera Semski and Betty Urbanski. Survivors include daughters, Donna (Michael Knapp) Watts of Elmira, and Linda (Jim) Willis of Elmira Heights; son, Edwin F. SHAY David C.
Age 85, of Riverside Ave., died December 15, 2009. He is survived by
his wife of 47 years, Carole Mozrall; daughters, Colleen (Shane) Persaud
of McDonough, GA and Patricia Shay of McDonough, GA; grandsons, Rylan and
Braden Persaud and Colin Shay; three nieces and nephews, several grandnieces
and nephews; brother-in-law, Dr. John (Lorraine) Mozrall of East Aurora;
cousins including Sonya Shay. Dave was a permanent Member of the Firemen's
Union and a Life Member of the BPO Elmira Elks #62. Retired as a Lieutenant
from the city of Elmira Fire Department after 36 years, formerly employed
by the Federal Government at the Holding Point and as a railway mail clerk
in Buffalo, NY, 40 year member of the Loyal order of the Moose club at
Montour Falls, a communicant of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, graduate
of Elmira Catholic High School in 1942, St, Bonaventure University 1950
and Elmira College; a U.S. Army veteran of WWII; at present he was Scholarship
Chairman of the NYSMA, former member of the Elmira American Legion, VFW
Sayre, International Arson Investigators, American Red Cross as a First
aid instructor and he was the 1st EMT trainer, also former and founding
member of the Horseheads Eagles Club. Those wishing may make a donation
in his name to the Blessed Sacrament Parish or to a charity of one's choice
(envelopes available at the Funeral Home). The family will receive relatives
and friends at the Kalec Funeral Home, Friday, Dec 18th, from 5 to 8 p.m.

SHEIVE Irene HOTCHKISS, 74, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira, NY on Monday, August 23, 1999 after an extended illness. Irene was born in Mosherville, PA on November 14, 1924 to the late Floyd and Bertha (Smith) Sheive. Irene was employed at many area businesses and most recently retired form Family Services where she worked as a home health aide. She was a former Avon saleswoman and a member of the Ladies of the Moose Post #517. She is survived by her husband, Jack, at home; son, David and Nelda Gaines of Charleston, SC; daughter, Judith Leonard of Troy, PA; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Greene of Elmira, Lois and Horace Stanton of Horseheads, Jean and Joe Viselli of Waverly and a brother, Allen (Bud) Sheive of Millerton, PA. ROLAND C. SHEPARD
Roland C. "Shep" Shepard, 86, of Gaines RR 1, PA died Saturday, June
22, 1996 at home. Roland was head Greens keeper at the Elmira Country Club.
He established and managed many area golf courses and was the owner/operator
of R.C. Shepard Landscaping in Elmira as well as the developer of a golf
course in Casper, Wyoming. Shep loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Dewey Shepard; sister, Faye Kettell
and Hazel Cook, both of Elmira, NY; several nieces and nephews; special
friend, Sara Sechrist of Reading, PA. He was predeceased by a son, Richard
LaRue (Ricky), in 1967. Funeral services were held at the Olthof Funeral
Home in Elmira on June 25 with the Rev. Kenneth Hammel officiating and

SHERMAN - DOLAND, Vera Rachel
Formerly of Elmira, NY - Was born September 7, 1927 in Greenwood, NY
the daughter of the late Floyd Raymond and Mary Rosetta (Brownell) Sherman,
died peacefully on Saturday, November 14, 2009, at the Geneva Living Center
at the age of 82. Her loving husband of 54 years, Richard E. Doland on
October 9, 2003; and her son, Donald B. Doland on June 15, 2007, predeceased
her. She is survived by her beloved son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Barbara
Doland of Seneca Falls, NY; adored grandchildren, Erica (Robert) Agan of
Elmira, NY, Lorrie Norris of Jeffersonville, NY, Heather Buck of Fayette,
NY; much-loved great-grandchildren, Kylie Agan, Trevor Agan, Mackenzie
Norris, Ryan Norris, Bradley Buck, Jena Buck; sister, Helen Beacraft of
Waverly, NY; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Ruef of Wurtsboro, NY, Nancy Martin
of New Jersey; along with several nieces and nephews. Vera was a faithful

ELWOOD Anna J. Long time resident of Southport, NY Age 82, formerly
of Schuyler Ave., Elmira, NY, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at Arnot Ogden
Medical Center. She is survived by her son, Frank Elwood of Corning NY;
grandchildren, Jeff Elwood, Trisha Coolbauch, Malissa Burger, Wade Cunningham;
great-grandchildren, Patty, Kendell, Jenna, Tanya, Logan, Morgan, Zack,
Jennifer; brother, John Shook; sister, Ruth Whal; brothers-in-law, Clyde
Elwood, Kenneth Elwood; and several nieces and nephews. Anna was predeceased
by husband of 62 years, Ernest T. Elwood (2004); son, Clyde T. Elwood (1966);
daughter, Carol Cunningham (2000); and a brother, sisters, brothers-in-law,
and sisters-in-law. She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,

SHORES – Edward E. Shores, age 75. Of 36 Sundown Road, Millport, NY died on Thursday October 7, 2004 at Elcor Nursing Home where Ed had been a resident for six years. Ed was born December 28, 1928 in Black, PA the son of the late Walter and Louise Shores. He and his wife Musetta owned and operated a farm in Odessa for several years. Ed worked at J.A. Coughlin Beer Distributors in Horseheads, NY for over 35 years and retired from the Odessa-Montour School System. He loved fishing and enjoyed farming and spending time with his family. Ed was predeceased by his sons, Rocky L. Shores who died on June 21, 1981 and Clifford E. Shores who died on March 11, 1985. Ed is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Musetta J. SICKLER - ROBINSON, Esther A.
Age 88, formerly of North Chemung, NY, died Sunday, April 26, 2009,
at St. Joseph's Hospital, Elmira, NY following a lengthy illness. Esther
was born May 22, 1920 in Ousterhout, PA, daughter of the late Oscar and
Emma Rebecca Sickler. She was a graduate of Moody Bible College where she
trained as a surgical nurse. She was married to the late Marvin Robinson.
Esther worked at Arnot Ogden Hospital where she provided nursing care to
terminally ill patients and also provided personal home nursing care. She
attended Ousterhout Community Church and the Chemung First Baptist Church.
Her memberships included the Rebecca's, Home Bureau and she enjoyed many
crafts and spending time with her loving family. Survivors include her
children, Marvin and Susan Robinson of Sayre, PA, Ronald and Jeanette Robinson
of Loganville, GA, Lynne J. Conklin of Elmira, NY, Neal M. and Lois Robinson
of Lowman, NY; a brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Gert Sickler of
Hopbottom, PA; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren,
numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Esther was predeceased by
her parents; husband, Marvin Robinson; infant son, Leon George Robinson;
brothers, Oliver, Everett and Kenneth Sickler; and her sister, Lena Clark.

Age 84, born in Buffalo, NY on November 4, 1924 to Stanley and Martha
(Bernas) Siuda, and died Monday, February 02, 2009, at the Chemung County
Nursing Facility. Dick was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Mary Louise
Hewitt, in 1994. He is survived by sons, Kevin E. (Darlyn), Elmira, John
(Blanca), Pine City, Richard M. (Katie), South Carolina; daughters, Maureen
(Greg) Joslin, Pine City, Mary Catherine Morris, Horseheads; 12 grandchildren,
8 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins; brother-in-law,
Lawrence (Ann Marie) Hewitt of Scranton. Dick was a retired Letter Carrier
at USPS, a communicant of Sts. Peter & Paul's Church, Member &
Former Officer of N.A.L.C. Br 21, a member of Elmira Elks BPOE #62 for
55 years. Dick was a graduate of E.F.A., Class of ´43; served his
Country in the US Navy during WWII in both the Atlantic and Pacific and
survived the sinking of the USS Murphy DD 603. Richard was a longtime resident
of Elmira's Eastside, living on East Avenue. The family will receive relatives
and friends at the Kalec Funeral Home Wednesday, February 4th, from 2-4
and 7-9 p.m. a prayer service there at 9:15 a.m. Thursday followed by his
Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sts. Peter & Paul's Church,

Richard W. "Dick" Age 64, of Elmira, NY, died Sunday, June 12, 2005,
with his loving family by his side. Dick was born June 11, 1941 in Elmira,
son of John and Frances (Gural) Smith. He married his wife, Gayle M. Davis
on June 10, 1967. He retired from Anchor Glass after 39 years of service.
Dick loved to hunt, fish, and camp on the banks of the St. Lawrence River,
but most of all spending time with his family was his life. Dick served
our country in the US Army during the Vietnam War, and was an active member
with the American Legion Post# 154 in Elmira Heights. Survivors include
his wife, Gayle, of 38 lovely years; daughter, Kathleen (Thomas) Collins
of Elmira; sons, Timothy (Holly) of Kennendale, TX, and Jeffrey of Orlando,
FL; mother, Frances Smith of Elmira; sister, Patricia Rice of Elmira; brother,
John Smith of Elmira; nephews, David Rice, Jason Taylor and Michael Crawley;
mother-in-law, Margaret Clarke of Elmira; sister-in-law, Barbara (Leonard)

SNYDER Barbara Ann "Aunt Barb" Residing on Underwood Ave. died peacefully in her sleep Friday December 23, 2005. Born on March 16, 1932 in Elmira, Barbara was the daughter of Fred F. & Jennie Neily Snyder. She graduated from the 1950 class of EFA and attended Jean Summers Business School. Barbara was always a very independent person who was very devoted to her many interests which included golfing, sewing, gardening, arts, crafts, and homemaking. She retired from Corning Inc. in 1994 in a management position as a Domestic Transportation Analyst following 32 years of dedicated service. While there she earned several merit awards for outstanding job performance. Barbara enjoyed shopping and visited Wegmans Grocery Store daily. She was a well respected professional career women who was cherished by her surviving family. A sister, Virginia Herrick; three nephews, Mark Herrick, Mike (Kristie) Herrick all of Elmira; Kenneth (Julie) Reynolds, Youngstown, OH; three nieces, Jennifer Herrick, Elmira; Kathryn (Boris) Charlanow, Lowman; Susan (Bernie) Larose, Horseheads; nine great nieces and nephews, Ashley, Megan, Sophia and Olivia Herrick, Lara (Tom) Neiles, Yuri Charlanow, Ryan Larose, Carissa and Cara Reynolds; a close and loved friend, Kathleen Herrick, Elmira. He was a United States Air Force veteran, worked for the Chemung County Department of Social Services for 18 years and was a senior parole officer for the state of New York for nine years in Ogdensburg, NY. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Kathleen Spiak three sons and two grandchildren; mother, Gladys Spiak of Lowman, NY; sister, Gladys (Robert) Hart of Beaver Dams, NY; brothers, William (Lorraine) Spiak of Columbia Cross Roads, PA and Richard D. Spiak of Elmira, NY; sisters, Mary (Merill Jr.) Morgan of Erin, NY, Roseanna (David) Truesdale of Horseheads, NY; several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his father, William B. Spiak. SPITTEL William Ray
William "Ray" William "Ray" Spittel, 70, of Honesdale, PA, and formerly
of Millerton, PA died Saturday, February 25, 2006, at Wayne Woodlands Manor
in Waymart. He was husband of the former Joyce M. Brundidge. The couple
would have celebrated their 50th anniversary this Aug. 24th. Born July
15, 1935 in Catonsville, MD, he was the son of the late Mary Susan Edan.
He was retired after 38 years of employment from the former Moore Business
Forms. He then was employed at Wayne Memorial Hospital prior to his illness.
He was an avid die casts collector, mainly cars, trucks, and planes. He
had a collection over 5000 pieces. He was a loving and devoted husband,
father and grandfather. His grandchildren knew his as "Pop-Pop." Ray will
be remembered as a kind and gentle man. Surviving are three daughters and
two sons, Connie Hansen and husband, Mike of Archbald, PA, Mary Swendsen
and husband, Fred of Waymart, PA, Bethann Smith of Honesdale, PA, Mike
Spittel and wife, Beverly, Beach Lake, PA and Steve Spittel of Palmetto,
FL. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, two sisters, Jackie Peterson and
husband, Richard and Sandy Reynolds; mother-in-law, Arline Brundidge; sister-in-law,
Jane and husband Mark Young; an uncle, Harold Baker and wife, Evelyn; one
aunt, Evelyn Insogna; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in
death by a son, Douglas Spittel who died June 17, 1979. The family will
receive friends Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hessling Funeral
Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale, PA. A memorial service will be held at Millerton
Wesleyan Church on Saturday, March 4 at 11:30 a.m. in the Millerton Wesleyan
Church, Millerton, PA. He will be buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in

SQUIRES Ervin Age 94, formerly of Elmira, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, in Bradenton, FL. He was predeceased by parents, Samuel and Sarah Squires; brothers, Bert H., Glen, and William. Age 77, of Endicott, NY and formerly of Elmira Heights, NY, died peacefully
on Saturday evening, January 10, 2009. Kathleen was born on April 4, 1931,
a daughter of Ernest and Helen Kosloski Stansfield. She was a 1951 graduate
of St. Joseph's School of Nursing and worked as a RN for many years, including
at Albany Medical Center. Kathleen is survived by her loving husband of
58 years, Norman Hoppe; children, Debra (Perry), Susan, Sharon (Jamie),
David and Jessica (Lawrence); grandson, Corey; granddaughter, Ashley; mother,

STEPHENSON Gary D.
68, of Wellsburg, NY, died at his residence on Sunday, December 21,
2008. He was the loving husband of the late Clara (Roupp) Stephenson who
passed in May of 1994. Gary was born on August 29, 1940 in Prospect, PA,
son of the late Alfred and Nettie (Kummer) Stephenson. Gary worked as a
therapy aide for the Elmira Psychiatric Center. He was an avid outdoorsman
and enjoyed fishing. Gary also collected coins, knives, and swords. Gary
is survived by his son, Roy D. (Claire) Stephenson of Wellsburg, NY; his
daughters, Karen Stephenson and fiancé, Carl Manoogian of Burlington,
KY, Kay Roupp of Elmira, NY; his grandchildren, Erin and Alfred Stephenson;

Howard F. “Stoney” STONE JR., age 69 of Gillett, Pa died Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at home. Howard was born August 4, 1930 in Elmira, NY, son of Howard and Martha (Shaver) Stone Sr. He was employed as a truck driver for S.C. Hanson and Son. Howard served his country in the US Army National Guard from 1948 to 1956. Howard was a life member and very active as a volunteer fireman for 31 years in the South Creek Fire department. He was a life member of the MY Penn. Firemen’s Association where he also served as a delegate and past president. and son, Kevin. He was a member of the Elks, Masons and Eastern Star. Welling

Sr. Formerly of Coldbrook Drive Was born March 11, 1928 in Waverly, NY, the son of the late Theodore D. and Adella (Smith) Swan, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, March 13, 2007, peacefully at the Chemung County Nursing Facility, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 79. On June 30, 1951, Theodore married A. Jean Park at the United Methodist Church in Waverly, NY. Prior to her death June 20, 2006, they celebrated 55 wonderful years of life and love together. Walt was a valued stockroom clerk at R.K.B. Enterprises for 37 years. He
always had a deep connection with his family and his church The Hand in
Hand Free Methodist Church. He was very involved with the inner workings
of his church, serving active positions as church trustee, church delegate,
Christian Education Director, and Head usher. Walt also loved children.
He and his wife Itylene opened their hearts and their home to more than
three hundred foster children. Providing them with a very loving safe place
to sleep. Being the father of three boys he knew the importance for structure
and love in young adults. He was very proud to serve as Cub Master for
pack#9 and pack#38 of Chemung County for many years receiving the Silver
and Bronze statue. His family and friends will remember him as a very loving
husband, wonderful father, and grandfather who was an avid fan of NASCAR,
great bowler serving on many area leagues. He is and will be missed by

SYKES Newman Mark World's Best Dad Of Holdridge Street, born May 21, 1920 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Albert and Rose (Hage) Saik (Sykes), "ran home to glory" peacefully on Saturday 18, 2006, at the age of 85. Newman married Joyce O. (Palmer) on January 15, 1945 in the Trinity Episcopal Church in Elmira, NY. Prior to her death, March 31, 2002, they celebrated 57 wonderful years of life and love together. He is survived by his loving children, Linda (Michael) Campagna of Horseheads, NY, Mark Sykes of Elmira, NY, Mary Lou (Michael) Kimball of Horseheads, NY, Janet Truman of Big Flats, NY; beloved grandchildren, Rick (Ineke) Fitzgerald, Sean (Robin) Fitzgerald, Michael Campagna, Jill (Robert) Charles, Shane, Sara, Lindsay and Jimmy Truman; much-loved great-grandchildren, Christopher, Connor, Joshua and Matthew Fitzgerald, Ashley Rose Cardone, Ethan Taylor Cardone, Jordon Robert Charles; along with several neices, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Sykes of Lowman, NY, Shirley Sykes of San Diego, CA; special friend and Pastor, Bill (Eleanor) Wells, and his wonderful sense of humor that always lifted Newman's spirit; friends, Harry Hoyt, Dave Clark (longtime neighbor), Rick Custer, and wonderful friend and breakfast buddy, Lou Denerio; his dear siblings, Selena Sykes, William Sykes, Ferris Sykes, Arthur Sykes, Mable David, George Sykes and Charles Sykes, preceded him in death. Newman retired from Remington Rand after 32 years of dedicated service as a repairman. He loved people and would try to bring a smile to anyone who passed his way. He was known as the "unofficial mayor" of Elmira in this sleepy little town. Newman enjoyed going to rummage sales on his little red scooter. He was blessed with the gift of encouraging others and always being able to look on the bright side of everything. He was always thankful for all the good. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Wednesday, February 22, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Maranatha Bible Chapel, 774 Sing Sing Road, Horseheads, NY. Celebration services will follow the gathering at 1:00 p.m. His Pastor and friend, the Reverend William Wells, will celebrate Newman's life and honor his memory. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Elmira, NY. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Joseph's Hospital, 555 East Market Street, Elmira, NY 14901, in his memory. SYMONDS George B.
Age 63, of Elmira, NY, died on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at
the Bath VA Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born on July 6, 1946 in Elmira,
NY to the late George and Evalyn (Pennell) Symonds. George was predeceased
by his brother, John Symonds. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Linda
(Gilmore) Symonds of Elmira; daughter, Christine (Mike) Morrison of Clarion,
PA; grandchildren, Jessica (Brayden) Turner of GA and Zachary (Aimee) Morrison
of PA; brothers, James (Margo) Symonds of Elmira and Richard Symonds of
Elmira; sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Ripley and Judy Symonds, both of Elmira;
brother-in-law, James (Renee) Gilmore of East Aurora, NY; along with several
nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Symonds served our Country in the Marine
Corps during the Vietnam War and retired from Anchor Glass after many years
of service. He was a dedicated and baptized Jehovah's Witness since 1974.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, January 20th, from
12 to 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witness, 706 Lena Place,
Elmira. A Memorial Service will follow there at 1 p.m., with Brother Stanley
Young officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Memorial
Park at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations
can be made to the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witness. The family would
like to thank the 2nd floor staff at the Bath VA Skilled Nursing Facility
and the 3B staff at the Bath VA Hospital for the care given to George.

SZERSZEN FLORENCE (NAN) VANSCHOICK
Florence (Nan) Age 88, died peacefully on Monday, June 26, 2006, in
the care of Elcor Health Services in Horseheads, NY, following a lengthy
illness. She was born on April 11, 1918 in Blossburg, PA to the late Edward
and Catherine (Lazewski) Szerszen. Florence married Wayne L. VanSchoick
in Elmira in July of 1951 and enjoyed 50 wonderful years together. She
was a longtime member of the Northside Community Evangelical Church and
a member and educator at the Sullivan Street Mission in Elmira. Florence
cherished the time she spent with her husband and with her family and friends.
Survivors include her son, Rev. Gerald VanSchoick Sr. of Elmira; sister,
Teresa Webster of Elmira; granddaughters, Laurie (Mike) Andrus of Elmira
and Heather (Mohktar) Mehenni of Astoria, NY; grandsons, Gerald (Deborah)
VanSchoick Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC, Eddie Joe VanSchoick of Alberta, Canada,
David (Anna) VanSchoick of Suffern, NY, Michael and Matthew VanSchoick
of Michigan; great-grandchildren, Kelly (Jr.) Spivey (Grabowski) of Elmira
Heights, Amy and Taylor VanSchoick of Myrtle Beach, SC, Dustin and Holden
Andrus of Elmira, Samantha, Christian, Micah and Emily VanSchoick of Suffern,
NY, Amina Mehenni of Astoria, NY; great-great-granddaughters, Mariah Spivey
and Brookelynn Grabowski of Elmira Heights; many nieces, nephews and cherished
friends. Florence was predeceased by her husband, Wayne L. VanSchoick;
granddaughter, Sharon Grabowski; sisters, Amelia Casper, Maryanna Szerszen,
Lenora Nixson, Martha Brusso, Frances Eames; brothers, Joseph Szerszen,
Stanley Szerszen and Aloysius (Al) Szerszen. Family and friends are invited
to attend a graveside service for Florence on Friday, June 30th, at 10
a.m. in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
SZYBURA - LOUNSBURY, Irene M. nee: Szybura
Age 85, of the Chemung County Nursing Facility, Elmira, died Sunday,
November 4th, 2007. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins
and a sister-in-law. Irene was a communicant of Sts. Peter & Paul's
Church and retired from St. Joseph's Hospital. The family will receive
relatives and friends at the Kalec Funeral Home, Thursday, November 8,
at 9 a.m. followed by her graveside committal prayers at 10 a.m. at Forest
Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
