NEUVILLE - BATULIS
Mrs. Muriel E. (Bradt) Age 91, of Batavia, NY, formerly of the Elmira
area, died Wednesday morning, May 25, 2005, at the United Memorial Medical
Center. She was born March 11, 1914 in Clearmont, PA, daughter of the late
Earl Dolan and Clara Lettie Neuville. Mrs. Batulis was a member of the
Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Batavia and Elmira. Her greatest joy was
her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Lorenz C. Bradt in 1965; daughter, Marilyn Lemoncelli in 1998; and a great-grandson,
Jason Bradt. She is survived by a son, Lorenz (Barbara) Bradt of Batavia,
NY; and a daughter, Linda (Robert) Vivian of Chico, CA; eight grandchildren,
Rick and Michell Lemoncelli, both of Phoenix, AZ, Candice (Steve) Stump
of Elmira, NY, Mark (Dawn) Bradt of Attica, NY, Steve (Sandy) Bradt of
Nunda, NY, Kevin (Sue) Bradt of LeRoy, NY, Colin (Linda) Bradt of Rochester,
NY, and Bryan Bradt of Batavia, NY; along with ten great-grandchildren
and four great-great-grandchildren. There will be no prior visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a 1:00 p.m. Memorial Service Saturday,
May 28, 2005, at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 101 Richmond Ave., Batavia,
NY 14020. Burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Elmira, NY. In lieu of

ERNEST Robert NOWLAN
Ernest Robert Nowlan, age 93 of Gillett, PA passed away on Tuesday,
December 26, 2000 at home. He was born on August 7, 1907 in Gibson, PA,
the son of Truman and Ella Taylor Nowlan. Ernest retired from American
Bridge in Elmira, NY after 40 years of service. He was a nondenominational
Christian. He is survived by his second wife of 17 years, Gertrude Purcell
Winslow Nowlan of Gillett; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Rita Nowlan
of Horseheads, NY; grandsons, Robert, Brian and Barry Nowlan; stepchildren,
Sandra and David Stewart, Georgia and Richard Schonher, Frank and Marilyn
Purcell, David and Gwen Purcell and Sam and Arline Purcell and their families,
all of Gillett, PA; many step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren;
sisters, Esther (Walter) LaDieu and Lois Stoddard. His first wife of 51
years, Frances, predeceased him in 1980. Funeral services were held at
the Ballard and Lindgren Funeral Home in Elmira Heights, NY on December
28 with burial to be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Elmira. Donations

OLDROYD – Merton E. Oldroyd, age 76, of 180 Bower Rd., Elmira, died Tuesday, December 19, 1989 at the Arnot Ogden Memorial Hospital. Survived by wife, Bernice Stewart Oldroyd; children, Richard and Beth Oldroyd of Horseheads, Marjorie Oldroyd of Elmira, Barbara and Robert Tombs of Horseheads, Donald and Edith Stewart of Horseheads, Robert and Sadie Stewart of Austin, TX, Richard Stewart of Newfield, NY; several grandchildren; brothers, Lester Oldroyd and Earl Oldroyd, both of Florida, Clifford Oldroyd and Fay Oldroyd, both of Elmira. He was predeceased by his children, Ronald Stewart and Eileen Stewart Coleman and a brother, Kenneth. Merton was a retired employee of the Elmira DRW, a member of Union Lodge #95 F & AM, member of the Riverside United Methodist Church and a US Army Veteran of WWII. OLIN Floyd Eugene, Jr. Age 80, went to be with our Lord on Sunday July 17, 2005 at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Bath, NY. Floyd was born in Elmira, NY, June 20, 1925 to the late Floyd and Edith (Personius) Olin, Sr. He attended Southside High School in Elmira, leaving before graduating to serve with the 253rd Engineer Combat Battalion in Europe during World War II with the U.S. Army. He was honored with a High School Diploma from Southside HS on March 20, 2001, in the first graduation ceremony in Chemung County as part of New York State's Operation Recognition. In addition to his parents, Floyd is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Norma Mae (Rafferty); two sisters, Lorna Wiltsie and Dorothy Willard; and granddaughter, Michelle Strong. He is survived by his sister, Alice Doan of Chemung, NY; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Steve Strong of Snellville, GA, and Melanie and Edson Flewelling of Surguinsville, TN; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Norma Olin of Milford, NH, David and Norela Olin of Henrietta, NY, and Jeffrey and Marla Olin of Bath, NY; 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Floyd and Norma lived the last 50 years in Alpine, NY, except for a few years immediately following their retirement spent in Zephyrhills, FL. Floyd was retired from Schweizer Aircraft in Horseheads, NY. During the 1960s he was actively involved with the Boy Scout troop in Alpine organizing numerous camping trips, he organized a traveling Little League baseball team that involved many young guys from around Alpine, and he sang with the Mark Twain Barbershop Chorus. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, and he actively supported the school athletic teams of his children and grandchildren. In retirement he enjoyed woodworking and leather crafting, and was an avid NASCAR fan. Floyd was a member of American Legion Post 676 of Odessa, and a member of the Odessa Baptist Church. Age 85, of Horseheads and formerly of Florida and Elmira, passed away
Monday, April 21, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was predeceased by
his wife of 62 years, Roberta Olmstead in 2006. He is also survived by
his daughters and son, Sue (Rick) Hamilton of Elmira, NY, David "Skip"
Olmstead of Elmira, NY, and Debbie (Bill) Lepere of Beaver Dams, NY; grandchildren,
John (Pam) Jankowski, Tammy (Kevin) Viele, David (Tammy) Olmstead, Michael
Olmstead, Kristina Lepere and Peter Lepere; eight great-grandchildren;
and sisters-in-law, Mary (Robert) Simmons of Lockwood, NY, and Jackie (Jim)
DiPeri of Lakeland, FL; along with several nieces and nephews. Gordon was
born Oct. 20, 1922, son to the late Gordon Olmstead and Mary Murray. He
was butcher and meat department manager at the former Loblaw's in Elmira.
He was also a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather,

Age 73, of Elmira, NY. Passed away surrounded by family in her home
on Christmas morning, 2007 after an extended illness. Nancy was born in
Elmira, NY, April 23rd, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and
Helen Bauer Orbanac. Nancy is predeceased by her husband whom she dearly
missed, William; and her daughter, Carol Jean Brimmer. Surviving her are

OSLAGER Clayton Russell Of Gillett, PA Was born May 2, 1918 in Caton, NY, the son of the late Daniel and Mildred (Tompson) Oslager passed away peacefully on Monday, November 27, 2006, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center at the age of 88. Clayton married Alta Marie Reeves December 3, 1938 in Ulster, PA. Prior to her death June 28, 2001 they celebrated 62 wonderful years of life and love together. He is survived by his beloved children, Carolyn (Leland) Purvis of Horseheads, NY; Norma (Ernie) Chaapel of Gillett, PA; Daniel (Lee) Oslager also of Gillett, PA; along with 16 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren; Aunt Fanny Impson and many cousins. Clayton was employed with Trayer Products with over 30 years of dedicated service. He was a faithful member of the Coryland Presbyterian Church and the Loyal Order of the Odd Fellows in Elmira. He loved to camp, enjoyed woodworking and was a 'jack of all trades'. Antoinette M. "Toni" Loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend Age
55, of Elmira, NY, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at home surrounded
by family and friends, following a courageous battle with cancer. She is
survived by her husband, Lewis E. Clearwater; children, Jessie Clearwater,
Peter (Julie) Clearwater, Tony (Lindsay) Clearwater, and Patrick Clearwater.
Grandchildren, Jessica, Storm, Louie, and Ellie, father, George Ottaviani,
sisters, Mitch (Mark) D'Angelo, Pat (Mike) Frame; brothers, George Ottaviani,
Don (Dorine) Ottaviani and Geno Ottaviani; mother-in-law, Jean Clearwater;
several nieces and nephews. Antoinette was predeceased by her mother, Ann

Age 91, formerly of Breesport Rd., Horseheads, NY, passed away Saturday,
September 20, 2008, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility in Elmira, NY.
John was born on May 12, 1917 in Kendall, NY, son of the late John L. and
Lillian (Jeffries) Page. John served our country in the United States Army
during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He retired from Waight Paper Supply
Corporation in Elmira after many years of service as Vice President of
the company; also he was a former plant manager for Pepsi Cola plant in
Elmira for many years. He was a longtime member of the Northside Community
Church in Elmira, presently known as Living Word Church and he was an avid
NY Mets fan. John was predeceased by his wife, Thelma Lovejoy after 65
years of marriage; and his brothers, Russell, Raymond and Kenneth Page.
Survivors include his son, John H. (Bonnie) Page of Bath, NY; daughters,
Joan (Jack) Burns and Donna (John) Fletcher, both of Horseheads, NY; sisters,
Daisy Waight of Pine City, NY, Kathryn Perkowski of Elmira, Lillian (Harold)
Sechrist of Pine City, NY, and Ruth Riley of Elmira; grandchildren, Debra

Aug. 25, 1987, at the Arnot¬-Ogden Memorial Hospital. following an

Methodist Church, the Open Heart Club, and a life member of Union Lodge

Eva "Muffy" Age 85, of Horseheads, NY, passed away after a brief illness
on Thursday, January 12, 2006, at St. Joseph's Hospital. Eva was predeceased
by her husband, Alfred; daughter Frances (Dolly); and grandson, Steve.
She is survived by daughters, Freda (James) Owen of Horseheads, Eleanor
Fife-Copp of FL, and Shirley (Jack) Musto of FL; sons, Alfred (Vicki) Fife
of FL, James (Michelle) Fife of NC and Joseph (Nancy) Fife of Horseheads;
17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren;

Floyd C., Jr. Age 74 of 453 Grace Street, Elmira, NY passed away Wednesday,
May 9, 2001 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He is survived by his wife
Erma; son Paul (Marilyn) Palmer; daughters Linda Kimbell, Carolyn Crown
and Cindy (Donald) Loop; stepchildren Beverly Bidwell, Barbara (Larry)
Briggs, Benita Auge (Bob Garret); several grandchildren and great grandchildren;
brothers Zane (Jean), Roger (Loretta), Jay (Maureen), Lee (June), Neal
(Fran), Max (Sheila), Gary (Diane) Palmer; sister Alois Riker. Floyd was
a veteran of WW2, member and past commander of American Legion, Clarence
R. Oliver Post # 154, Elmira Heights, past County Commander of the American
Legion, member of the Chemung County Military Honors Squad, coordinator
for the American Legion Boy Scouts and a member of the Flying Sparks Club.

He was born in Elmira, NY April 29th, 1920. Survived by his loving and devoted wife and friend of 64 years, Marjorie Tobias Parfitt; son, William (Ann) Parfitt of Camillus, NY; daughter, Patricia (David) Dubbs of Port Byron, NY; five grandchildren and one great-grandson whom he was very proud to have; sister, Anna Schnautz of Elmira. Predeceasing him are his daughter, Margaret Parfitt; and son, Robert Parfitt. Ellison William and Marjorie J. Ellison William Parfitt, age 85, passed
away on November 30, 2005, and his wife, Marjorie J. Parfitt, passed away
on May 13, 2006. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 16,
2006, at 1:00 p.m. for both of them at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Jerusalem
Hill Road, Elmira, with full Military Honors accorded at the grave in honor

Alice Jean Town of Southport Resident Was born September 25, 1932 in
Leolyn, PA, the daughter of the late Ronald and Marian (McNett) Park, went
home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 20, 2006, peacefully at St. Joseph's
Hospital with her loving, caring and devoted family by her side. Jean married
Ted on June 30, 1951 in Waverly, NY at the United Methodist Church. They
have enjoyed 55 wonderful years of life and love together. She is survived
by her loving husband, Ted; beloved grandson, Teddy; dearly loved children,
Linda (Chris) Lockwood Sr. of Elmira, NY, Ted Swan Jr. of Elmira, NY, Karen
'Kasey' (Willy) Clark of Elmira, NY, Barb (Nick) Longo of Ithaca, NY, Tom
(Sue) Swan of Elmira, NY; sister, Barbara (Alfred) Segar; sisters-in-law,
Donna Park and Phyllis Park; brother-in-law, Charles (JoAnn) Hack; along
with ten much-loved grandchildren, six adored great-grandchildren, several
nieces, nephews and her church family. Her sister, Mary Hack; brothers,
William, Ronald and Kenneth Park, predeceased her. Jean was a member of
the North Chemung United Methodist and the OES Chapter #460 Breesport,
NY. For many dedicated years, she ran and operated the Food Pantry at the
North Chemung United Methodist Church. Jean enjoyed playing Bingo and loved
her crossword puzzle books. She made it her job to constantly care for
those she loved and accomplished that by her love of cooking for others.
Above all, Jean was devoted to her family and church. Family and friends

Marian G. (Parker), Age 67 of Corning, NY, passed away into the loving
arms of the Lord surrounded by her family on Thursday, July, 26, 2007,
at home. Marian was born Oct. 13, 1939 in Elmira, NY, the daughter to the
late Raymond and Corenne (German) Parker. Her surviving family includes
her husband of 38 years, Wayne Hungerford; sons, Randy (Mindi) Hungerford
of Weirdsdale, FL, and Kevin Hungerford of Corning, NY; brothers and sister,
Raymond (Beverly) Parker of Horseheads, NY, David Parker of Gillett, PA,
Corenne (Eddie) Fagan of Elmira, NY; beloved K-9 pal, Sammy; dear friends,
Charlotte Hugg of Elmira and her husband, the late William Hugg; and several
nieces and nephews. Marian was also predeceased by her brothers, Loring
Parker in 1983 and Robert Parker in 2002. Marian was retired from housekeeping
at the Econo Lodge in Consumer Square in Big Flats, NY. She enjoyed puzzles
and traveling with her husband to various gaming places around the state.

PARSONS Walter E. Age 82, passed away on April 16, 2005 at "The Villas on La Canada," an assistive living center in Tucson, Arizona. He was born on February 27, 1923 in Elmira, New York, to Wilbur T. and Ruth McCarty Parsons. He graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1942, and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country during WWII in the Pacific theater. In 1943, before going overseas, he married Sidney L. Morton, his high school sweetheart and wife of 61 years. Upon his return home, they settled in the Elmira area, where Walt went to work as a shipping clerk for Hardinge Bros. Inc., where he remained until his retirement in 1976. He and Sidney then moved to Tucson, Arizona, where he lived for the remainder of his life. During his years of retirement, he enjoyed photography, pistol shooting, and model railroading for as long as his health would allow. Walt is survived by his wife, Sidney; his son, William and wife; and granddaughter, Jennifer L. Parsons, all of Tucson, AZ; his grandson, Nathaniel T. Parsons and wife; and great-grandsons, Christian and Benjamin Parsons, all of San Antonio, TX. Walter will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, during the month of May, at the convenience of the family.

PECKENS Leroy (Pete) Age 92, of Breesport, NY, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born on July 15, 1914, the son of the late Robert and Catherine Peckens. Pete was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed. Married on March 22, 1944 in Pine City, Carl and Bea celebrated 50 happy and loving years together. Bea operated a family home licensed day care center in her home for many years. be a person or persons in this world whom could be so compassionate and

marriage, Doug was always there to care for Paula. With such dedication

PICKERING Frank A. Age 86, of Elmira Heights, NY, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2005, at Elcor Health Services in Horseheads, NY. Frank was born January 20, 1919 in Elmira, son of Frank and Myrtle Hodge Pickering, Sr. Frank was a true athlete and participated in all sports, and was a lifelong Yankee fan. He served in the US Coast Guard during WWII in the Pacific Theatre, and was retired from Bendix Corp. after 39 years of service. Upon his retirement, he worked for the Elmira Heights School District bus garage as a driver and an aide. His memberships included the Elmira Heights American Legion Post #154 and the Elmwood Baptist Church. Frank was a participant in the Sr. Olympic Games in Elmira, and all during his life he enjoyed bowling, softball and fishing. Surviving Frank are his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Sylvia Pickering of Maryland; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Alan Ramsay of Elmira; daughter-in-law, Robin Pickering of Elmira Heights; brothers, Lloyd Pickering of Elmira, Harry (Margaret) Pickering of Horseheads, Claire Pickering of Millport; a sister, Lenora Kirouac of Oregon; grandchildren, Michael (Heidi) Storch of Elmira Heights, Tammy (Tim) Sweeney of Elmira, Jeffrey (Sherry) Storch of Elmira Heights, Jennifer (Jeff) Woodworth of Elmira Heights, Brian Pickering of Elmira, Steven Pickering III, Stephanie Pickering of Elmira Heights, Michael Pickering of CA; eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Age 90 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Saturday June 16, 2007. Carlton
was a veteran of WW II serving his country with the US Army as a Guard
For The Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier. Mr. Pipp was a retired truck driver
for Penn Yan Express and member of Teamster's Union Local #529. It was
Mr. Pipp's wish that there be no calling hours. Interment will be in Forest
Lawn Memorial Park in Elmira, NY at the convenience of the family where

POPOWSKI - DALTON
Charlotte (Popowski) Passed away suddenly at home on Friday, January
12, 2007, in Houston, Texas. She was born in Kane, PA, on August 8, 1931.
Charlotte was a longtime resident of Elmira and Horseheads, NY. She retired
from Thatcher Glass Co. and Macy's Corp. and was an active member of several
activities at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton's Church in Houston, TX. She was
preceded in death by her parents, William and Cecilia Popowski; brother,
Henry; and her oldest daughter, Christine Dalton Moheb. Charlotte is survived
by daughters, Carol Walsh of Honeoye Falls, NY, Cathy Spencer of Albuquerque,
NM, Charlene Allred and Cindy Henley of Houston, TX; and son, Corey Dalton
of Winchester, VA; sister, Helen Gallagher and husband, Bob; cousin, Stephanie
Anuskiewicz; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; several nieces,
nephews and cousins. Brookside Cypress Creek Funeral Home was in charge
of arrangements. Funeral services were held on January 17, 2007 at St.
Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Interment followed at Forest Park

Iona E. Age 94, died Saturday, October 16, 2004, at the Chemung County
Nursing Facility, formerly of the Villa Serene. Iona is survived by daughter,
Wanda Fanelli, Horseheads; son, Daryl A. Miller, Burlington, PA; 18 Grandchildren,
21 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Inza Cram,
Arlington, TX; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband, John
in 1968; daughters, Dolores Palmer and Gail Rosekrans; and son, Duane Miller.
Iona was a member of the Lake St. Presbyterian Church and retired from
the Elmira Association of the Blind, where she was a supervisor and taught
sewing. Those wishing may make a donation in Iona's Memory to the Chemung

PORTER Leland Earl
Age 84 formerly of Horseheads, NY went to be with his Lord and Saviour
on Sunday February 10, 2008. Mr. Porter was born September 8, 1923 in Elmira,
NY the son of the late John E. and Iva H. Doland Porter. He was a Veteran
of WW II serving his country with The U.S. Navy. Leland married his wife,
Elouise Ruth Twist Porter, on July 4, 1944 and they celebrated their 61st
Wedding Anniversary prior to Elouise passing away on December 27, 2005.
He was also pre-deceased by his parents and nine brothers and sisters.
Leland and his wife were avid square dancers for over 20 years. Mr. Porter
was a charter member of The Calvary Baptist Church in Horseheads, NY and
served on The Board of Trustees for many years. Leland was a retired employee
of Bendix Corp. in Elmira Heights, NY. Mr. Porter is survived by his son
and daughter-in-law Ronald D. & Sara Jane Porter of Pine Grove Mills,
PA; grandchildren: David & Diane Porter of Gloucester, VA, Andrew Porter
and Stephen Porter both of State College, PA; great granddaughter: Breanne
Porter of Gloucester, VA; sister-in-law: Joan Twist of Roaring Branch,
PA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. Relatives

POST Donald M. Sr. Of Fernwood Ave., Elmira, passed away peacefully
with his loving wife at his side at the Veterans Hospital in Bath on Thursday
evening, June 2, 2005, at the age of 59. Don is able to rest peacefully
after an extended illness. Born on May 27, 1946, Don was the son of Donald
F. and Isabell Eckert Post. He served his country in the United States
Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was employed by F. M. Howell Co. until
his illness. Don married Teresa Carpenter on October 8, 1966 at the Southside
Baptist Church. Together they have spent many cherished years raising a
loving family, which survive: his wife and companion, Teresa Carpenter
Post; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald M. Jr. and Julie Post, Elmira;
a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Bill Stanley, Wellsburg; grandchildren,
Chelsey and Nicholas Post, Billy, Tommy and John Stanley; a special uncle
and aunt, Edward and Dorothy Post; along with many family friends. Don's
many interest included driving his own race cars at the Chemung Speedrome.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and camping. He was also a life member
and commissioner of the Golden Glow Fire Dept. He was predeceased by his
parents, Donald F. Post and Isabel Post Smith. Family and friends will
be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport,
on Monday, June 6, 2005, between the hours of 6-8 p.m. Funeral services
will follow the visitation at 8 p.m. Graveside services will take place
in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. where the Chemung
County Veterans Honor Guard will accord Mr. Post full Military Honors.

POTTER David B. Sr.
Retired Deputy Chief, Elmira Fire Department
Age 90, formerly of Luce Street and Woodbrook Adult Home, Elmira, NY,
passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira
after a brief illness. David was born October 1, 1916 in Towanda, PA, son
of the late Bernard and Dora (Simpson) Potter. David served our country
in the United States Navy during WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Naval
Reserves for a total of thirty years. He was named Outstanding Naval Reservist
in 1963. He was the Deputy Chief of the Towanda, PA, Fire Dept., later
moving to Elmira and moving up through the ranks to become a Deputy Chief
of the Elmira Fire Dept. David was honored as Fireman of the Year by B'Nai
B'rith in 1963. David also worked in maintenance for the Berger and Sherin
Textile Company (Silk Mill) in Elmira, along with working in housekeeping
at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. He also worked as a security
officer for St. Joseph's Hospital. David was a devoted husband and father.
He will be deeply missed. David was predeceased by his loving wife, Helen
(Ferrell) Potter in 2004. He was also predeceased by his stepmother, Augusta
Potter; and sisters, Ann Smith and Gladys Lewis. Survivors include his
sons, David B. Jr. (Jean) of Pine City, Donald (Phyllis) of Elmira, Stewart
(Ann) of Watkins Glen, NY, Stanley (Dolores) of Elmira, and Timothy (Sandra)

Florence G. (Pratt) Age 82 of Watercure Hill Road Elmira, NY has gone
to be with her Lord and beloved husband James on Tuesday August 30, 2005.
Florence was born April 9, 1923 in Millport, NY the daughter of the late
William and Genevieve O'Donahue Pratt. She married her husband James H.
Cowl who pre-deceased her on June 12, 1978. Florence is also pre-deceased
by her brothers Earl, James, Eugene, Robert, William, John, Ronald, and
Charles Pratt and by her sister Bernardine VanAlstine. Mrs. Cowl is survived
by her loving children: Linda (Richard) Howard of Erin, NY; Sandra Sumers
of Horseheads, NY; Genevieve "Ginger" (James) Austin-Cowan of Horseheads,
NY; Richard (Brenda) Cowl of Elmira, NY; James (Billie-Jo) Cowl of Elmira,
NY; Charles (Nancy) Cowl of Horseheads, NY; Melinda Cowl of Elmira Heights,
NY; Bruce (Lori) Cowl of Horseheads, NY; Brian Cowl of Elmira Heights,

GERALD B. PRITCHARD Age 90, of Elmira, NY, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Elcor Health Services. Gerald was born June 23, 1914 in Elmira, NY, son of Ernest D. and Rena Fuller Pritchard. He was a 1932 graduate of EFA, and served in the US Army during WWII. Gerald married Dorothy E. Harter, the girl next door, December 21, 1935, and spent 67 wonderful years together. She predeceased him in December of 2002. Gerald was retired from the Elmira City Chamberlain's Office after over 30 years of faithful service. He then was employed for five years in the Arnot Hospital business office. Gerald was a lifetime member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, and with his talented baritone voice, sang in the choir for many years. His other interests included volunteering for many years at the Steele Memorial Library, and delivering Meals on Wheels. Always known as a quiet, kind, gentleman, many people knew him as the gardener that tended to the huge bed of geraniums at the Church St. Exit off Rt. 17, always waving to passers by. Surviving Gerald are his children and their spouses, Roy and Elizabeth Pritchard of Cheshire, CT, Loren Pritchard of Horseheads, Kay D. and William Rice of Montour Falls, Norma P. and Robert Carl of Elmira; grandchildren, Linda Pritchard, Stephen Pritchard, Stacey DeAngelis, Mark Rice, Dennis Rice, Holly Rice, Hillary Geiger, Janine Geiger; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. PRITCHARD Lauren C. Town of Southport Resident Was born February 2, 1927 in Watkins Glen, NY, the son of the late Fred and Nora May (Rice) Pritchard, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2006, at St. Joseph's Hospital at the age of 79. His loving wife of 60 years, Marie M. (Comfort) Pritchard predeceased him. His brothers, Don and Fred Pritchard; and sister, Margaret Bennett, also preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Sharon Kelsey of Elmira Heights, NY, Lauren (James) Clark, Jacqueline Pritchard and Mary (David) Clark, all of Wellsburg, NY; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Joyce Weiskopf of Elmira Heights, NY; along with several nieces and nephews. Lauren was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during WWII. He retired from the Elmira City School District as a painter after several dedicated years of service. PROCTOR Robert J., Sr. Age 49, of 760 Harper Street passed away Saturday, September 1, 2001 at Robert Packer Hospital from injuries sustained in a logging accident. Bob was born January 19, 1952 in Wellsville, NY son of the late Norman and Susan (Elliott) Proctor. He was a graduate of Horseheads Central School and was employed at Kennedy Valve as a chipper for many years. Bob was an avid fisherman and member of the UE Local #329 and Trout Unlimited. A longtime resident of Southport passed away Tuesday morning, March
11, 2008 at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center following an illness at the
age of 69. Born on November 27, 1938 Richard was the son of Ernest J. &
Charlotte Butz Quick. He married Carol Ann Butts on September 14, 1960
in Elmira. A hard working man, Richard was employed by Kennedy Valve for
over 30 years. His many interests included searching for antiques at auctions,
repairing automobiles as a mechanic, and being a loving and supportive
husband and father to his loving family who survive. Surviving is his loving
family, his wife of 47 years, Carol Ann Butts Quick along with their children,
Darlene (Chuck) Wandell; Jacquelyn (Chris) Cartwright; Robert (Dona' Maria)
Quick; Victoria (John) Case; Damie (Jerry Woo) Quick; JoAnn (Chad Williamson)
Quick; Sue (David) Sill; brothers, Tom (Bev) Quick and Ernie (Deb) Quick

Age 52, of Elmira, died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 7, 2008. Shelley
was born October 23, 1955, a daughter of Robert and Genevieve May Rafferty

daughter-in-law, Matthew D. and Kristi Field of Erin with their children,
Alysia Merrill and Jacob Field; son Jason P. Taylor of Elmira; sister and

RATHBUN John Larue "Jack" A long time resident of West Ave. Elmira, passed away Sunday evening, October 29, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital following an illness at the age of 67. Born on July 1, 1939 in Sayre, PA. Jack was the son of John A. & Anna Louise Lathrop Rathbun. He was employed at the Elmira Correctional Facility for nearly 20 years until his retirement and served as a past Union President. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #378 of Big Flats where he was a Past Master and D.S.A. having received the Distinguished Service Award. Jack served his country in the United States Navy from 1956-1960. He was an avid outdoorsmen. Surviving is his loving family, daughters, Robin (Bob) Terry, Penny (Chris) Rice, and Laura (Doug) Fry; his mother, Anna L. Rathbun; a sister, Susie (Bill) McGee; brothers, Ray Rathbun and Darwin (JoAnn) Rathbun; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a friend and companion, Coni Hill. Facility, Elmira, NY, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 4,

August and Mary Reich; along with sister, Amelia; and brothers, Otto and
August Jr. She is survived by her loving daughter, Doris Finch; grandchildren,

Age 87 of Elmira, NY. He was born September 6, 1920 in Elmira, son
of the late Paul A., Sr. and Eva (Auffhamer) Rhode and passed away Friday,

enjoyed spending summers with his family at their cottage on Keuka Lake
and after his retirement, he and Delores wintered in Naples, FL. Paul was
admired by his family and friends for his uncanny ability to master and
fix anything he put his mind to. Family and friends are invited to visit

RICE William D. (Bill) Age 66, of Montour Falls, NY, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2006, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Bill was born April 19, 1939 in Cortland NY, son of Francis and Frances Lusk Rice. Bill served in the US Air Force and was retired from Elmira Local 1358. Bill married Kay Prichard June 3, 1960 in Bath, NY. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Millport, NY, and had served on the board of trustees, was a member of the Elmira Heights American Legion, and the Montour Moose Lodge #426. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and following the NY Yankees. Bill especially enjoyed researching and searching for relics and treasure. RIKER Bruce L. Age 62 of McDowell Place, Elmira NY, passed away Friday May 11 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Bruce was born December 12, 1938, son of Alfred Sr. and Achash Gorton Riker. Together with his wife, they owned and operated Riker's Restaurant in Elmira Heights for 7 years. In the past he was employed as a security guard with National Homes, a member of the Elmira Heights Jaycees, and was retired from Totem Taxi after 28 years of service as a driver. He enjoyed model shipbuilding and painting with both oil and watercolor. Bruce formerly attended Maranatha Bible Chapel and was an active participant in the Oasis Church in Elmira. Surviving Bruce are his wife of 38 years, Elaine Byam Riker; a daughter and son-in-law, Sabrina and Tony Rosa of Hendersonville TN; sons and daughter-in-law: Nevil and Joanne Riker of Gallitin TN; LaMonte Riker of New York City; Adriel Riker of Elmira, Moriah Riker of Hornell; six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. ROSE Raymond C. "Ray" Age 69, of Wellsburg, NY, passed at home Wed., Feb. 7, 2007. Ray was born Oct. 2, 1937, the son of the late Carlton and Annabelle (Barton) Rose. His surviving family includes his children, Robert Rose of Avon Park, FL, and Rae Carol Millar of Stillwater, TN; brother and sisters, Rodney (Karen) Rose of Van Etten, NY, Geraldine (Ed) Nero of Homosassa, FL, and Lillian (Rich) Golden of Erin, NY; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, including Louis Rose of Homosassa, FL. In addition to his parents, Ray was also predeceased by his sister, Sheila Stage. He was a graduate of Van Etten Central School in 1955 and a Veteran of the US Army serving in Troop A of the 17th Calvary 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper. He was a member of the Teamsters Union having driven for Flickinger's and Dairylea. A longtime resident to Wellsburg he was a frequent patron of Tomahawk Restaurant, Wellsburg Diner, and especially Maple Lawn Dairy. He was also a NASCAR fan. Sheila (Rose) Stage, 46, of Columbia Cross Roads, RD 2, died
unexpectedly Monday, December 2, 1991. Sheila was a member of the Bentley
Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, George A. Stage;

A. Age 102 formerly of 916 South Main Street Horseheads, NY passed away
on Tuesday July 4, 2006 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility in Elmira,
NY. Helen was born August 23, 1903 in Erin, New York the daughter of the
late Lewis and Annie Drake Ross. She was also pre-deceased by her sisters
and brother Mabel C. Little, Howard Ross, Mildred R. Simkin, and Alice
R. Brubaker. Helen was the oldest member of The First United Methodist
Church of Horseheads having been a member for over 82 years. She joined
the Horseheads Grange # 1118 in December 1925 and has been a member for
over 80 years. Helen was also a member of Pomona Grange # 1. Helen began
her teaching career teaching in rural schools and continued her career
at Edgeworth School in Elmira from which she retired after 42 years of
teaching. She was a member of The New York State Retired Teachers Association,
and the Horseheads Historical Society. Helen loved flowers and gardening
and working with the Earth. Helen loved her family, friends, and neighbors
and enjoyed the time she spent with them. She is survived by several nieces,
nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great grand nieces, great grand nephews
and a host of caring friends and neighbors including her nephew Wayne G.
Brubaker of Horseheads, NY and her grand niece Alice Marie Brubaker Smith
of West Virginia and great grand nieces Laken Marie Smith and Cheyenne
Kayla Smith. It was Helen's wish that there be no calling hours and her

Louis M. Rought, 66, of Horseheads, NY died June 12, 1990 at
the Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira. Mr. Rought was born September 22, 1923
in Troy, PA, the son of the late Bert and Thelma Snyder Rought. She was
a 1940 graduate of Troy High School. He was a truck driver, working
for Empire Foods and Chemung Food for 36 years. He is survived by his wife,
Teresa Hart Rought; three children; brother and sister-in-law, Burton and
Jean Rought of Reno, NV; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marcheta and Franklin
Krise of Horseheads, NY, Winona and Leon Darrow of Granville Summit, PA

Mary F. Age 80, of Elmira, NY, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2005,
at the Elcor Health Services in Horseheads, NY. Mary was born in Troy,

time as a soldier for the Salivation Army in Elmira for many years. Survivors

ROUNSVILLE –NORMA E. ROUNSVILLE BEACH, loving known as "Squirrelly" was a long time resident of Elmira and passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, April 5, 2005 at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center where she had been receiving care at the age of 81. Prior to being hospitalized, she resided at the Chemung County Nursing Facility and also Hampton Rd. Southport. Surviving are her loving children, Barbara Beach, Southport; Linda & David Cole, Southport; David R. Beach, MA and Nancy & Gus Goodwin, Elmira; seven grandchildren, John (Shannon), Kathy (Kevin), Toni, Tanya, Jamie, J.J., Sierra; two great grandchildren, Kayla and Ryan; a brother, Clarence W. & Betty Rounsville, Elmira; nieces, nephews and family friends which will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway on Saturday April 9, 2005 between the hours of 2-5 p.m. Funeral services will follow the visitation at Caywood's at 5 p.m. with the Reverend Cathryn Stevenson officiating. Interment will take place in the Beach family plot of Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Elmira at the family’s convenience. Norma was born on February 4, 1924 in Elmira, daughter of Clarence & Helen R. Strawn Rounsville. She was the beloved wife of Raymond E. Beach, who was well known in the community as a Sgt. with the Elmira Police Department until his retirement, he passed away in 1993. Norma was employed by the Remington Rand for many years but her main interest was caring for her family and her home. She also took great enjoyment in crafts, crossword puzzles, playing cards and collected squirrels. ROUTE –ANNA MAY VROMAN of Edward Flannery Apartments, Elmira, NY went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 24, 2008 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY, after a long illness. She was predeceased by husband, Max on January 3, 1996. Anna spent most of her life serving others. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Elmira, an avid bowler who loved to play Bingo and play cards with her friends. But most of all, she was a wonderful housewife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She is survived by daughter, Barbara (Terry) Batrony of Elmira, NY; sons, Gary L. RUHMEL –ROSALIE R. age 88, formerly of 3374 Lower Maple Ave., Elmira, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Saturday, February 8, 2003. She was born March 16, 1914 in Elmira, NY, the daughter of the late Frank & Lillian (Carpenter) Ruhmel. Rosalie was predeceased by her husband of 63 years Almond “Allie) W. Congdon, sisters, Gertrude Mozrall, Mary Colgan & Helen Gillett & niece Bonnie Lou Miller. She is survived by niece & god-daughter Nancy (James) Danaher of Horseheads, nephews & god-son, John (Lorraine) Mozrall of E. Aurora, NY; nieces; Carole (Dave) Shay, Catherine Hanrahan of Elmira, Susan Senn-Cigos of Shokan, NY, Betty Joan Allen of Reno, Nevada, Patricia Heist of Millport, nephews: Calvin Gillette, & Kenneth K. Congdon both of Elmira: several great nieces & nephews: brother-in-law, Kenneth L. Congdon of Elmira. Rosalie loved the children, especially the little ones with whom she spent a lot of her time, her great-great-nephews: Stephen Navone, William Brady, Jr., Rylan & Braiden Persaud; and several cousins. Rosalie was a former employee of the Gorton Coy Department Store. She and Allie enjoyed fishing, especially in Redwood, NY and traveling to Major League ball games –there weren’t too many Major League teams they missed. Allie was an accomplished violinist & Rosalie loved to travel with him throughout the area when he played. The family will receive relatives & friends at Grace Episcopal Church on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 from 10 to 11 AM with a Solemn Requiem Mass there at 11 AM. Burial at the convenience of the family in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Flowers will be provided by the family. 1926 in Elmira, NY, the daughter of the late William and Violet Mae (Wenzel)
Russell, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 9, 2007, at the Arnot
Ogden Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 81.
Marguerite (Greenwalt) married Harold Leighton Jessup, January 21, 1923
at the Oakwood Avenue United Methodist Church in Elmira Heights, NY and
celebrated 55 wonderful years of life and love together, prior to his passing,
December 5, 2005. Her sister-in-law, Patricia Jessup also predeceased her.
She is survived by her beloved children, Marcia (Dennis) Boor of Elmira,
NY, Laurie Jessup of Cary, NC, Michael (Amy) Jessup of Scotia, Melanie
(Robert) Cassarly of Elmira, NY; much loved grandchildren, Kelli (Brett)
French, Jeremy Boor and Ryan Boor, all of Elmira, NY, Kelsey Jessup and
Skyler Jessup, both of Scotia; adored great-granddaughter, Olivia Rose
French; brother, Russell (Rita) Greenwalt of Painted Post, NY; sister-in-law,
Donna Jean Benedict of Fort Meyers, FL; brother-in-law, Walter Jessup of

employed by the Town of Southport as a clerk in the Assessor's office for
several dedicated years. She was a shop-a-holic, enjoyed her crossword

Ave., Elmira, NY, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Following the visitation, everyone
is welcome to join the Jessup family for a celebration of both Harold and
Marguerite's lives. Lay Pastor Robert Townson will officiate. Interment
will be held privately at the convenience of the family in the Forest Lawn
Memorial Park where Marguerite will be laid to rest with her beloved Harold.

Betty M. Age 77, of Elmira Heights, NY, passed away Thursday, September
28, 2006, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Betty was born May 17, 1929
in Mount Union, PA, daughter of the late George and Margaret (Lyter) Rutter.
Betty retired from Thatcher Glass after many years of service. Survivors
include her daughter, Barbara Ann (Michael) Widmyer of Lewistown, PA; son,
Raymond (Carol) Whitsel Sr. of Elmira; stepsons, Raymond Kirkendall of
Elmira, and Curtis Kirkendall of Eugene, OR; sisters, Goldie Graciano of
Harrisburg, PA, Anna Shingler of Mill Creek, PA, and Violet Hughes of Allenport,
PA; brothers, Clarence Rutter of Three Springs, PA, Kelly (Mable) Rutter
of Newton Hamilton, PA, Jack (Annette) Rutter of Elmira, and Robert Rutter
of Corning, NY; grandsons, Raymond Whitsel Jr. and Bryan Ellis, both of
Elmira. Betty was predeceased by her husband, John in 2004; sister, Mary
Rosenberry; brother, Elmer Rutter. Family and friends are invited to a
graveside service on Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at 1 p.m. in Forest Lawn
Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of
Betty can be made to a charity of one's choice.
RYGWALSKI ANN S. ISAACS
Ann S. Age 90, of Fisherville, NY, passed away on September 25, 2006.
Ann was born on May 21, 1916 in Morris Run, PA to the late Bernard and
Sophie (Swjcihowski) Rygwalski. Ann was predeceased by her husband, David
Isaacs in 1973; sons, David and Richard Isaacs; brother, Edward Ringwalski;
and sisters, Agnes Marsh and Veronica McQuestin. Survivors include her
daughters, Jo Ann (Robert) Decker of North Fork, CA, and Barbara Williams
and family of CT; son, Jack Isaacs of New Orleans, LA; grandchildren, Robert
Decker, Melanie Isaacs, Tracy Mustico and Peggysue Potter; nephew, Harry
Marsh; sister-in-law, Betty Butler. Family and friends are invited to call
on Friday, September 29th, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral
Home. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. Committal prayers and interment
