Do You Know that you can search just the Obituaries on the site by using the three County Specific Obituary selections in the Partitioned search engine at the bottom of the Current What's New Page? You can narrow your search by including a key word in the cemetery name or a township name in addition to the surname you search. Then select the Find All Words option.
You'll also find obituary and other newspaper clippings using Clippings partition. Additional clippings can be found in the Birth, Marriage, and some other partitions. 
Reading a series of obituaries from a single cemetery, as they are presented here, is like reading the multi-generational history of a community. These people were the local populace at a particular time. The people buried here knew each other, were neighbors, relatives and school mates. They attended church together and engaged in "trade" or business. 

All people are listed in alphabetic order by surname at BIRTH. Women identified by a married alias only and  for whom a birth surname can not be identified, are listed on the last page for the cemetery's obituaries. Please send in typed obituaries for people buried in our local cemeteries. If possible include name of newspaper and date. Send typed in your email or in attached Word files. Send to Joyce M. BOYCE - MRS. ALICE BOYCE BUCHANAN, 73, of 1012 Oak St., died Sunday, October 1, 1967.  Friends may call at the Hagerman Funeral Home.  Calling hours:  Monday 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Funeral Wednesday at 11 a.m., the Rev. John Bedzyk officiating.  Burial will be in North Chemung Cemetery.  Survivors include:  Mrs. Jessica Strock of Elmira and Mrs. Evelyn Bowers of Trumansburg;  sons, George of Erin, Charles of Gainesville, Florida, William of Lawrenceville, Clair of Elmira Heights, Elliott of Wellsburg, and Ernest of Trumansburg;  27 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren;  sister, Mrs. Clara Barrett of Catlin;  brother, Elliott Boyce of Elmira Heights.  Mrs. Buchanan was a member of the Glad Tidings Church of Elmira Heights.  Submitted by:  George and Peg Boyce.  Elmira Star Gazette - October 2, 1967

MYRON BOYCE, 39, of 256 West Twelfth St., Elmira Heights, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1930 at 1 p.m. after a brief illness.  He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Rhoda Boyce of Elmira; four brothers, Jesse, Elliott, and Frank of Elmira;  Lloyd of Elmira Heights;  three sisters, Mrs. Ransford McCarron of Christian Hollow,  Mrs. Howard Fair of Cortland, Mrs. Clarence Bennett of Lockwood.  The remains repose in the Vunk Funeral Home, Elmira Heights. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m.  The Rev. E.L. Harvey will officiate.  Burial will be in the North Chemung Cemetery.  Elmira Star Gazette - September 22, 1930

HUGG, Donald F.
Age 48 of 404 Union Place, Monday, March 1, 1976. Private funeral will be held at Barrett Funeral Home, Friday at 11 am Rev. Gene Callahan. Burial North Chemung Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. Survived by wife, Mrs. Marilyn Hugg; sons, James of Campbell, N.Y., Michael of Columbia Crossroads, Pa, Mark and David both at home; daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Sandra) Scullin of Pisa, Italy, Suzanne, Kristine, Melissa and Julie all at home; brothers, Francis of Elmira Heights, Chester of North Chemung, Lloyd of Elmira, Arthur of Columbia, South Carolina; sister, Mrs. George Crane of Benson, Ariz.; four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was a retired employe of  Cook Coffee Company, has been associated with Marty’s Sub Sales for last 3 years.

McMASTER MARJORIE L BLEEKER-KULESZO,
Marjorie L., Age 85, of 646 Breesport N. Chemung Road, Lowman, NY, died December 26, 2007 at Bethany Village, Horseheads, NY. Marjorie was born October 8, 1922 in Elmira, NY, daughter of the late Stephen and Mae Jones McMaster. She was a graduate of Southside High School and St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Syracuse, NY. Marjorie devoted her life caring for others and was employed as a Registered Nurse at the Chemung County Nursing Facility prior to her retirement. She was a member of the North Chemung United Methodist Church, Arthur G. Depew VFW Post #6200 Ladies Auxiliary, Ovid, NY, St. Joseph's School of Nursing Alumni Association and a member of R.P.E.A. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Annette Bleeker of Lowman; grandchildren, Shilo Anne and Robert Costley III of Erin, NY, Stephen R.C. Bleeker and his fiancée, Megan Palmieri of Elmira, NY; great-grandchildren, Layla Thomas, Cadence Costley, Rhiannon Costley; many close and loyal friends. Marjorie was predeceased by husbands, Robert D. Bleeker on December 20, 1995 and Frank J. Kuleszo on December 29, 1999; and by her sons, Airman First Class Steven R. Bleeker on August 9, 1968 and Kevin G. Bleeker on November 9, 2003. Family and friends are invited to call Saturday, December 29, 2007, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc., 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY. Funeral and committal services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 7 p.m. with Reverend Anne Mowery officiating. Interment will be in North Chemung Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorials are directed to the Baldwin Volunteer Fire Department, Breesport N. Chemung Road, Lowman, NY 14861. FRANKLIN E. VANVALKNER age 71 of the Elston Hollow Rd., RD 2, Elmira, NY unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 5, 1988.  He is survived by sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Houston with whom he resided and Mrs. Irene Cody of North Ft. Myers, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews.  Mr. VanValkkner was born November 19, 1916 in Elmira, son of Ben and Cynthia (Judson) VanValkner and was a lifelong resident of the Chemung County.  Friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.  Funeral and committal services will be held there on Friday at the conclusion of calling hours (9 p.m.).  The Rev. E. Gene Callihan will officiate.  Interment North Chemung Cemetery.  –Elmira Star-Gazette 7/7/1988

WELLER Gale A.
Age 58, of Erin, NY died after a brief illness Mon., Aug. 11, 2008, at the Bath VA Medical Center. Gale was born April 29, 1950 to Helen (Hollenbeck) Weller of Horseheads and the late Lawrence "Red" Weller. He is also survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Connie (Walker) Weller; daughter, Jennifer (Walter) Granger of Elmira; grandchildren, Michael, Walter and Destiny; sisters and brothers, Delores Welty of West Valley City, Utah, Sher Main of Elmira Heights, Arnold Weller of Elmira, Darrell Weller of Batavia, Darwin (Pam) Weller of Elba, Anthony Weller of Elmira, Gabriel Weller of Horseheads, Wayne Weller of Watkins Glen, Helen (Leroy) Stanton of Elmira Heights, and Delia Weller of Horseheads, NY; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Barbara and James Walker of North Chemung; brother-in-law, Wayne (Della) Walker of Erin; many nieces, nephews, neighbors and special friends, including Roger Hugg and Edward Fitzgerald; special nephew, Jeff Walker of Erin. Gale was employed at Topps Market in Consumer Square. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He also was employed at the former SCT BOCES and capabilities in Elmira. Gale enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid outdoorsman. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 So. Main St., Horseheads on Thurs., Aug. 14, 2008, from 10 a.m. - 12:00 noon. His service will be celebrated there at 12:00 noon.
