BONYAK Paul
Age 92, of Elmira Heights, NY, passed away on Friday, September 11,
2009, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born on March 16, 1917
in Lykens, PA to the late John and Mary (Roman) Bonyak. Paul was predeceased
by his wife, L. Madelene Bonyak in 2004; sons, Thomas and William Bonyak
and James Fish; daughters, Shirley Weiskopf and Pauline Oliver; and several
brothers and sisters. Survivors include his sons, Robert Bonyak of FL,
Joseph (Rita) Fish of Erin and Thomas Fish of Ontario, NY; son-in-law,
Donald Weiskopf of Elmira Heights; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
along with several nieces and nephews. Paul was a past Commander of the
Catholic War Veterans and a longtime member of the American Legion Post
154 in Elmira Heights. He was also a longtime communicant of St. Nicholas
Ukrainian Catholic Church. Paul loved to play bingo and skat. In his free
time, Paul enjoyed all of what nature had to offer including camping, traveling,
fishing and boat trips on the St. Lawrence River. Family and friends are
invited to call on Thursday, September 17th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the James
D. Barrett Funeral Home. Panykhda will be held there at 7 p.m. Panykhda
will continue there on Friday, September 18th, at 10 a.m., followed by
the Divine Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic

BURKE JEAN M. BILYNSKY
Jean M. Age 49, of Panama City, FL, formerly of Endwell, NY, went home
to be with the Lord Sunday, August 20, 2006, at home after an extended
illness. She is survived by her husband, William; sons, Daniel Bilynsky,
a student at Florida State University, and Brian Bilynsky, a student at
Stetson University in Florida; brother, Patrick Burke of Meshoppen, PA;
sisters-in-law, Catherine Horan of Waverly, and Mary Daugherty of Elmira;
brother-in-law, Michael Bilynsky of Elmira; along with several nieces,
nephews, friends; and her beloved dog, Candy. Jean was a graduate of SUNY
Binghamton and was formerly employed with Bard Parker in Hancock, NY as

CARUSO Msgt. Rocco Paul, Ret. Age 82, of 3046 Arnold Ave., Horseheads, NY. He was born October 27, 1924 in Geneva, NY, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Romeo) Caruso and died Sunday, January 21, 2007, at Tioga Nursing Facility. Msgt. Caruso retired from the U.S. Air Force in December 1964 after 21 years of duty to the armed forces. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Matkosky; brothers, Charles, Joseph II and Angelo; sisters, Mary Fayant and Flora Cantando. Sgt. Caruso entered the Navy in December 1942 and served in that branch during WWII. In 1947 while in the Navy reserve, Caruso enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force until his retirement from Griffiss AFB, Rome, NY in 1964. During WWII, Caruso saw action in the North Atlantic with the 38th Destroyer Div. credited with sinking a German sub, transferring to the SW Pacific Theater, earning 15 battle stars, and the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. During his career he was also in the occupation forces in Japan and took part in the Korean Conflict earning the Korean Presidential Unit Citation. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1947 and served in Ft. Slocum, NY (1st AF), Spokane AFB, Washington (98th Bomb Group), Giger FL, Washington, Okinawa (Hg Squadron), McCord AFB, Washington (325th Installation Squadron), Hamilton AFB San Rafel, CA, Korea (Operations Squadron), Chanute AFB, IL (HTC), Toul Rossier AB, France and Griffiss AFB, Rome, NY, earning 15 battle stars, 2 presidential unit citations and numerous service ribbons and citations. Mr. Caruso was a member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, was a member of the American Legion, Post 154, the Air Force Society and a Plank Member, Sampson WWII Navy Veterans, Inc. He is survived by his sister, Anne Hockstaff of Elmira; sister-in-law, Vera Caruso of Rancho Cardova, CA; along with several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. CHERESNOWSKY Peter Age 93, of Elmira Heights, NY, died Monday, May 2, 2005, at St. Francis Nursing Home in Williamsville, NY. Peter was born in Yonkers, NY, son of the late Wesley and Ksenia (Kachmar) Cheresnowsky. Peter retired as a Stationary Engineer for the Elmira Correctional Facility Power Station after many years of service. He has been a longtime communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Peter was predeceased by his wife, Helen, in 1997; sisters, Catherine Kohan and Mary Templer; brothers, John and Stephen Cheresnowsky. Survivors include son, Peter D. Cheresnowsky of Amherst, along with his fiancée, Kathleen A. Savaree of Buffalo, NY; sisters, Ann Stys of Sayre, PA, and Sister Helen SSMI of Sloatsburg, NY; brothers, Anthony (Elizabeth) Cheresnowsky of Sayre, PA, and Wesley (Catherine) Cheresnowski of Broken Arrow, OK; grandson, Christopher Chersenowsky of Amherst, NY; several nieces and nephews. Age 89, of Elmira, NY. She was born March 22, 1919 in Elmira, daughter
of the late Damian and Sophia (Sikorska) Churchman, and died Wednesday,
November 26, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. She was
predeceased by her brothers, Stephen and Raymond; sisters, Sophia Cassetta
and Irene Strang; nephew, Richard Cassetta; niece, Mary Ann Shafer. Olga
is survived by her beloved nephews, nieces and their families, Tom (Linda)
Cassetta, Dr. Brian (Chris) Cassetta, Gregory (Veronica) Cassetta, Daniel
Cassetta, Jean (Craig) Brown, Mark (Linda) Churchman, Rae Anne (Ray) Windsor,
Amy (Leonard) Tally, Sue Hall, Patricia (Brent) Seppanen, William Strang,
Steve (Barbara) Churchman; and sister-in-law, Jane Churchman. Olga retired
from Remington Rand and the A&P Plant. She will be most remembered
for her faith and her dedication and service to others. She was a devout
communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Family and friends

COICO - SENKO
Clara M. Resident of Chemung County Nursing Facility Age 79,
former resident of Villa Serene, died Saturday, June 10, 2000 at the Chemung
County Nursing Facility. Clara was born July 16, 1920 in Passaic,
NJ, daughter of the late Cosimo and Addalerato Coico. She
was married to the late John Senko who died October 18, 1984.
Clara worked at Remington Rand for 30 years and, after her retirement,
she was one of the original pyrogy ladies at the St. Nicholas Ukrainian
Catholic Church. She is survived by her sisters, Sue Travani of Elmira
and Elvira Cerio of Horseheads and their families; numerous nieces,
nephews and their children. Clara will be remembered as a special angel
by the husband and family of her late sister-in-law, Julia Senko Reppard,
for whom Clara was caregiver and nurse during Julia's final struggle with
cancer in 1977. Julia's children, Cheryl Spear, Donna Reppard and Cindy
Braly and their children will remember Clara's loving kindness forever.

DEMYAN - OBUHANYCH, Helen D.
Age 92, of Horseheads, NY, died on Friday, November 9, 2007. She was
born on September 23, 1915 in Corning, NY to the late Joseph and Susan
(Slyoma) Demyan. Helen was predeceased by her sisters, Maria Demyan and
Ann Bleznuck; and brothers, John, George and Michael Demyan. Survivors
include her loving husband of 66 years, Harry Obuhanych of Horseheads;
sons, Robert (Vikki) Obuhanych of Portland, OR and Thomas (Ko) Obuhanych
of Cody, WY; daughters, Barbara (Dr. Peter) Cullen of NC and Mary (Robert)
Harris of Horseheads; grandchildren, Mark, John, Robert, Thomas and Daniel;
great-grandchildren, Elle and Chase; along with several nieces and nephews.
It was Helen's wish that all services be held privately. Interment will
take place in Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Cemetery at the convenience
of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the
charity of one's choice. The family would like to give a special thanks
to all of Helen's doctors and caregivers that helped her during her time
of need.

Age 89, of 550 E. Church Street, Elmira, New York, passed away Friday,
July 3, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. He was born
on January 20, 1920 in the Ukraine. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna
(Dychka), on April 26, 1995. He is survived by his daughter, Stella Houseknecht
of Coral Springs, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Rolando
Navaro of Land O'Lakes, Florida; sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and
Christine (Wilson) Duchy of High Point, North Carolina, Peter and Marie
(Graham) Duchy of Elmira Heights and Joseph and Ruth Duchy of Horseheads;
grandsons, Alan M. Houseknecht of San Diego, California, Peter M. Duchy
of Buffalo, New York, Jody Wilson and Kirk Wilson; granddaughters, Christine
Houseknecht of Coral Springs, Florida, Melissa Duchy and Ashley Duchy of
Horseheads, New York; great-grandson, Kerrick M. Duchy of Elmira Heights.
Mike was a retiree of U.S. Steel and a devout, longtime communicant of
St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. He will be most remembered by his

DYKA - CHOPKO, Mary D.
Devoted wife, loving mother and caring grandmother. Age 90, of Elmira,
passed peacefully at her home with her family by her side, on Sunday, November
15, 2009. Mary was born in Sannyky, Ukraine on May 14, 1919, the daughter
of Wasyl and Anna Zamrij Dyka. Mary and her husband John, along with 2
of their children, immigrated to the United States in 1949. She was predeceased
by her husband John and daughters-in-law, Glenda and Diana. Mary is survived
by her children, Bohdan of Lakewood, CO, Orest (Barbara) of Horseheads,
Lubomyr of Denver, CO, Lesia (Louis) Fadale, of Elmira Heights, Anna of
Elmira, and John G. of Elmira; grandchildren, Debra, Zachary, Michael,
and Gregory. Mary enjoyed working in her lovely garden and with her flowers.
She retired from Elmira Floral Products. Mary was a devoted member of the
Ukrainian Church. Father Vasile Godenciuc will celebrate a Mass of Divine
Liturgy at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church on Thursday, November 19, 2009
at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations

Mrs. Anna (Fecich) Age 82 of 209 W. 17th St., Elmira Heights, NY died
Thursday, November 29, 2001 in Maryland. She was predeceased by her husband
Stephen on February 20, 1999, brother Alex Fecich and sister Mary Crowley.
Survived by her son Stephen Michael Stetz of Atlanta, GA; daughters and
sons-in-law Pat and Dr. William Labuda of Rockville, MD, Bonnie Stetz of
Elmira, Stephanie and Roger VanDusen of Sanford, FL, Mary Kathryn and Melvin
Bohart of Boise, ID; brother John Fecich of Horseheads; sisters Sophie
Conklin of Millport, Julia Eldred and Helen Gilkey both of Horseheads;
11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews
and cousins. Mrs. Stetz was a communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic
Church and was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1176 Auxiliary.

Pearl A. Age 86, Erin, NY, died Saturday, February 25, 2006, in Screven,
Georgia. She was born in Mount Carmel, PA, October 6, 1919. She was predeceased
by her parents, Wasil and Mary Thresa (Mardyniak) Fedock; husband, George
Elmer Robbins; daughter, Carol McKee Carmen; siblings, Michael, Pete, Andy,
Helen, Metro, John, Stephen. Pearl is survived by two daughters, Mary (Walter)
Bunce, GA, Hattie (Wayne) Hannula, NY; grandchildren, Merrilea Schmeltz,

FURCH - KOLYNICH Mary
Age 93 of 420 East Franklin Street Horseheads, NY died on Saturday
September 13, 2008 at home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Kolynich
was born June 24, 1915 in Youngstown, Ohio the daughter of the late Michael
and Julia Lukaczyk Furch. She married her husband, Frank T. Kolynich and
he pre-deceased her on March 21, 1979. Mrs. Kolynich was also pre-deceased
by her brother John Furch in 2006. Mary was a longtime member of Holy Trinity
Orthodox Christian Church in Elmira Heights, NY. She loved her family and
friends and also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and making jewelry. Mrs. Kolynich
is survived by her daughter: Eileen Kolynich of Lansing, NY; son and daughter-in-law:
James F. & Rosemary Kolynich of Elmira, NY; sister-in-law: Anne Furch
of Horseheads, NY; nephews: Donald Furch and Theodore (Vicky) Petris; her
lifelong friend Mary Benyo; several cousins, her beloved cat Ginger, and

Gus was a retired VP of Industrial Sales and Marketing with the former
LeValley McLeod in Elmira. A 42 year member, Past two-time Exalted Ruler
and past Dist. Deputy of the Elmira Elks Lodge #62, Gus was also a member
of the Elmira Heights Vol. Fire Dept. where he spent much time there growing
up in the Heights. Mr. Gustin was an avid outdoors and sports enthusiast,
his interests included fishing, being a dedicated Notre Dame Fan and local
Youth Baseball Coach. He had also been active with the Chemung Co. Republican
Committee. Friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413
So. Main St., Horseheads on Friday Dec. 14, 2001 from 2-4:00pm and 7-9:00

Age 89, of 1006 Hoffman St., Elmira, NY. He was born June 19, 1918
in Larksville, PA, son of the late Matis and Xenia (Vach) Harabin and died

an extended illness. He was the last survivor of his family, being predeceased
by parents and all of his brothers and sisters, George, Mathew, Joseph
and Jacob Harabin, Mary Buynak, Anna Lavernick, Kathryn Dudascik and Martha
Rivell. Paul is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna (Zubriski); children

on October 3, 2006; brother, Raymond Holchuk; sister-in-law, Helen Riopko;

HOODAK William L.
Age 89, of Grand Central Ave., Elmira Heights, died after an illness
Sat., June 21, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital. Bill was predeceased by
his wife, Anne (Zawko) Hoodak, Oct. 12, 2002. His surviving family includes
his sons, Ronald (Lucy Contando) Hoodak of Elmira, Roger Hoodak of Elmira
Heights; grandchildren, Alexander James Hoodak and Elizabeth Anne Hoodak,
both at home; special family friend, Janice "Ma" Shappee of Horseheads;
several extended family members, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
William was born Feb. 14, 1919 in Elmira, NY, the son to the late Peter
and Eva (Telech) Hoodak. Mr. Hoodak was a communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian
Catholic Church in Elmira Heights and a retired electrician with the Elmira
Local IBEW # 139. He was also a veteran of the US Army Air Corps service
during WWII. His service duties of which he was very proud include being
a flight engineer on a B29 bomber. He was a life member of the Elmira Heights
American Legion and was very active with the Hoodak Motorsports Racing
team in Elmira Heights having competed in several SCCA road racing classes
and having won four NY State Road Racing Championship Series GT-1 championships.
He was also predeceased by his brother, Steven Hoodak. Friends are invited

JAMELSKI William A.
Of Elmira, NY passed away very unexpectedly as a result of an accident
on Sunday evening, March 15, 2009. Bill was born on February 16, 1935 in
Elmira, NY, the son of the late William and Mary Adamowsky Jamelski. He
served his country honorably with the US Army and later worked and retired
with over 30 years at Thatcher Glass in Horseheads as a mold maker. Bill
is survived by his children, Julie Chevalier (Steve Edgerly and daughters)
of Horseheads, NY, Lori (Brent) Moyer of Elmira Heights, NY and William
Jamelski (Sue Bilger and daughters) of Elmira, NY; grandchildren, Nicholas,
Dustin, Billy, Bri, Kayla, and Whittany; great-grandchildren, Zachary and
Nolan; former wife and friend, Barbara Jamelski; longtime companion, Florence
Granger; special friend, David Quinn; great-aunt, Maria Adamowsky; four
legged companion, Teddy; and several cousins and friends. Bill was a kind-hearted
true friend to everyone. Bompa, as he was known to all of his grandchildren,
enjoyed spending time with all of the grandchildren. He could usually be
found at a ball field, standing along the fence, near a dugout or along
the sidelines cheering on his favorite player. He very rarely missed a
game. Bill also spent many winters in Zephyrhills, FL tending to his orange
trees, running around in his golf cart and spending time with many friends
and family at his second home. He truely enjoyed his time in the south.
Another love of Bill's was his Polka music. He had danced many years in
a polka dance group and made many friends along the way. His smile, generosity,
even to strangers, and his spirit for life will be sorely missed. The family

August 9, 2008. She was born on April 11, 1919 in Elmira, NY to the late
Alex and Matrona (Kuryla) Kohan. Sophie was predeceased by her husband,
Willis Lester Shutt Sr. in 1986. Survivors include her children, Willis
(Sharon) Shutt Jr. and Robert Shutt (Sandy); seven grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren; sister, Anna Toby; special niece, Lois Hamilton; along
with several other nieces and nephews. Sophie retired from the Elmira Heights
School District after many years of service and was a member of the Ukrainian

Age 90, of Elmira Heights, NY. She was born August 12, 1918 in Bernice,

was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Mary Ann

Age 88, of Elmira Heights passed away peacefully, surrounded by his
most loving wife and family and the caregivers at CCNF at his side on Tuesday,
July 21, 2009. He is survived by his wife Helen (Thomas) of 62 years of
devotion, love and caring. He is also survived by his loving children Ron
(Julie), Dan (Theresa) both of Rochester, Richard (Beth) of Syracuse, Linda
(Jerry) of Alpharetta, GA, Lana (Tommy) of Massapequa; "Daughters" Jean
and Beverly of Horseheads. Surviving grandchildren include Ashli Sardo
(Fiance' Patrick), Kirstie Linza, Very Special Deborah Joy Michalko, Taylor
Jean Williamson, Andrew Thomas and Daniel Michael Wraith; great grandchildren
Billy Jo Powlowski and McKenzie Green. Surviving Loving Sisters include
Pauline Tsibidas and Chris Jansen; Loving Sister-in-law Frances Michalko;
and many Loving Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was pre-deceased by his
Loving "daughter" Tina, grandson Brandon Patrick, parents, four brothers
and four sisters. Andy was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox
Church in Elmira Heights. He volunteered many hours of labor in helping
to build our new Temple. Andy was a Staff Sgt. stationed in the Aleutian
Islands with the U.S. Army. He was employed with GE Foundries for 40 years,
was Village Trustee for many years, a lifetime member of American Legion
Post No. 154, participated in the Senior Olympics for several years and
won medals in Track and Swimming. He loved playing baseball, softball

OBUHANYCH Frank
Age 79 of Elmira Heights, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday,
March 24, 2009 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Frank was born
on September 4, 1929 in Elmira Heights, son of the late Samuel and Katherine
(Skirka) Obuhanych. Frank retired from Bendix as a machinist after many
years of service. He was a member of the UAW-CIO Union and was proud to
be a lifetime resident of Elmira Heights. His favorite past time was gardening.
Frank will be dearly missed by those that knew him. Survivors include his
brother, Harry Obuhanych of Horseheads, NY; sister-in-law, Anna Obuhanych
of Canandaigua, NY; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Frank was predeceased by his sisters, Anna Myhalyk and Helen Obuhanych,
brothers, John and William Obuhanych. It was Frank's wish that his service
be private to the family. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Orthodox
Cemetery in Horseheads, NY, at the convenience of the family. Donations

Age 84 of Elmira Heights, NY died Saturday, September 20, 2008, at
the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Helen was born on April 12, 1924
in Elmira Heights, daughter of the late Samuel and Katherine (Skirka) Obuhanych.
Helen retired from the Marine Midland Bank in Elmira Heights after many
years of service. She was a former member of the Holy Trinity Orthodox
Church in Elmira Heights. She loved meeting with the retired employees
of the Marine Midland Bank and her school friends for luncheons. She loved
gardening and grooming the beautiful flowers she grew. She was a devoted
sister and aunt. She will be dearly missed by those that knew her. Survivors
include her brothers, Frank Obuhanych of Elmira Heights and Harry Obuhanych
of Horseheads, NY; sister-in-law, Ann Obuhanych of Canandaigua, NY; many
nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased
by her sister, Anna Myhalyk; brothers, John and William Obuhanych. Family

She was predeceased by her husband, Walter on January 10, 2001; and is

S. and Lorraine of Horseheads; grandchildren, Kristine Brookshire, Jessica

Chorney; 11 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bob DeGroote of Manchester,

Margaret C. Age 83 of Horseheads, NY died on Friday September 8, 2006.
She was born on July 3, 1923 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Stanley
and Mildred Capenter Przymusik. She married her husband Edward J. Kowalski
Sr. on May 29 1943 and they recently celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary
on May 29, 2006. She was a retired employee of the Horseheads Central School
System. She was active in many organizations throughout the community.
Margaret was pre-deceased by her daughter Shirley Kowalski on August 28,
1953. Mrs. Kowalski was also pre-deceased by her sisters Josephine Dekoshak
and Frances Paska. Mrs. Kowalski is survived by her husband Edward J. Kowalski
Sr.; son and daughter-in-law: Edward J. and Sandra Kowalski Jr. of Horseheads,
NY; sisters and brother-in-law: Alberta and Thomas Shaw of Horseheads,

1917 in Elmira Heights, daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna (Memchak)

Facility. She was predeceased by her husband, Julian W. (Bill) Sekella
on February 17, 1990; and daughter, Maria (Sekella) Collins on March 22,

Church, where she and her husband were married in 1941 by Rev. Vladimir

on February 20, 1919, to the late Harry and Fannie (Rependa) Riopko. Mary
was predeceased by her brother, Harry Riopko, sister, Helen Riopko, brother-in-law,
Raymond Holchuk, and beloved nephew, Mark Riopko. She is survived by her
husband, Leonard Holchuk of Elmira Heights; son, Alan (Eloise) Holchuk
of Elmira Heights; daughters, Cheryl (Fred) Lucas of Honeoye Falls, NY,
Yolanda (Anthony) Troccia of Horseheads, and Deborah (Tim Hayes) Southard

Fame for her participation in college basketball. She was a graduate of

a member of the choir. Mike is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law,
Alex (Lee) Shaban of Elmira Heights and Nick (Vicky) Shaban of Horseheads;
daughter, Kateryna Melendevych of Ukraine; son-in-law, Leonard Grasso of
Whippany, NJ; eight grandchildren, Michael (Kelly), Christine, Jonathan
(Melanie), David, Petro (Halena), Lennie, Jason and Tony; three great-grandchildren,
Yuriy, Irena and Jason; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Age 82, of Middlebury, VT. He was born October 2, 1926 in Elmira, son

Sinkew in 2002; and brother, Elias "John" Sinkew. Joe is survived by his
daughter, Natalie Sinkew of Burlington, VT; son, Michael Sinkew of North

WWII. Joe was an avid downhill skier and bow hunter and was a member of

TYRA Dorothy CLEMENS, 92, of Millerton, PA died Saturday April 29, 2000 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira, NY. Dorothy was born March 23, 1908 in Pittsburgh, PA, daughter of the late Anthony and Sophie Tyra. Dorothy was employed as a hat model in the 1920’s at Iszards Department store and later at Remington Rand. She was married to the late Keith Clemens who died in 1980. survivors include her daughter Lorraine Gross of Millerton, PA; grandchildren, William Miller of Millerton, PA, Sherry Miller of Elmira, NY, Thomas (Keith) Lewis of Millerton, Tyrone Lewis of Elmira and Lamona Vickery of Troy, PA; great grandchildren, Keith Miller, Nichole Lewis, Michael Lewis, Christopher Lewis, Stephanie Vickery and Deven Place; a brother and six sisters. Divine liturgy was held May 2 at St. Nicholas Church in Horseheads, NY with the Rev. Junusz Jedrychowski officiating and interment to be in St. Nicholas Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Barrett Funeral Home.
URCHAK KATHERINE MICHAELINE WEBB
Katherine Michaeline Age 89, a compassionate woman with love for all
living things, died on March 9, 2007 in Quincy, Illinois, while visiting
her granddaughter and great-grandchildren. She was born on November 21,
1917 in Elmira, NY to the late Metro and Katherine (Pachelskie) Urchak.
She later went on to marry Mr. Webb in 1937. Mrs. Webb was predeceased
by her husband, World War II Veteran, Mr. Robert Webb. She was also predeceased
by her sisters, Ms. Irene Urchak and Mrs. Josephine Campanelli. Mrs. Webb
was a loving, involved and attentive mother of three sons who survive her,
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Webb of Fort Pierce, FL, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Webb
of Horseheads, and Mr. and Mrs. James Webb of Rantoul, IL. She was a wonderful
grandma to her four granddaughters, of whom she shared a birthday with
her granddaughter, Jennifer Rhoads; Michelle Maloney, Melissa Kelly and
Melinda Webb; and to her six great-grandchildren, Aaryn Maloney, Jacob
Rhoads, Hannah Rhoads, Benjamin Rhoads, Alaysha Kelly and Elizabeth Kelly;
as well as an aunt to, Don Campanelli. In her 89 years she accomplished
several things. She graduated Valedictorian at age 16 and went onto Elmira
Business Institute, from there she went on to work for American Bridge
Works. Mrs. Webb later went to Chemung County Child Welfare Department,
where she worked effortlessly to assist in helping children for 30 years
until she retired. In Katherine's spare time she loved to have her family
around her and to see the ocean. Mrs. Webb has lived with her son, James
Webb and his wife for the last three years in Illinois. She was tremendously
loved and respected and will be deeply missed by all the family. Family
and friends are invited to call on Monday, March 19th, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Divine Liturgy will be held on Tuesday, March 20th, at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas

VARGASON Harold M. Sr., Age 63, of Albion, NY, formerly of Elmira Heights, NY, died on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Lakeside Hospital in Brockport, NY after a year-long battle with cancer. Harold was born on September 25, 1944 in New York, NY, son of Andy and Julia (Selewach) Vargason. Harold graduated from Thomas Edison High School and recently retired from NYS Department of Corrections as an officer. He was predeceased by his mother, Julia in 2001; and his twin brother, Peter Vargason in 1981. Harold is survived by his father, Andy Vargason of Albion, NY; daughter, Renee (Michael) Barry of Rochester, NY; son, Harold Vargason Jr. of Elmira; granddaughter, Stephanie Effrige of Rochester, NY; and his beloved pet, "Rusty." At the family's request, there will be no prior calling hours. Divine Liturgy will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at 12 p.m. in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church with Fr. Age 84, formerly of 378 Diven Avenue, Elmira, NY, died on Tuesday,
February 5, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility. She
was born on January 20, 1924 near Kursk, Russia. She is preceded in death
by her husband, Walter (1997), and two infant children in Germany after
World War II. Alexandra is survived by daughters, Tamara (George) Downsbrough
of Bellefonte, PA and Lucy (Al) Losey of Lawrenceville, PA; five grandchildren,
Leschia Ruhe of King of Prussia, PA, Jana Losey of Lawrenceville, PA, Juston
Losey of Indiana, PA, Melissa Downsbrough of Philadelphia, PA, and Lea
Downsbrough of Arlington, VA; two great-grandchildren, Kyle Ruhe and Camille
Losey. She was displaced by the Nazis from Russia when she was a teenager
and sent to a work camp in Germany. She told many stories about those days
that will forever live on in her family. Alexandra was a petite woman but
was feisty, which got her into trouble regularly. At one point she was
shot in the arm for running away from her assigned camp to a camp where
she had more friends. It was near the end of this time period that she
met and married her husband. They ended up in France after the war where
they lived for several years. Alexandra came to the United States from
France along with her husband and daughters in 1956. She ran her own cleaning
business for several years and then worked in the St. Joseph's Hospital
Housekeeping Department. She was employed there for ten years. She was
a very social woman and absorbed languages around her so she could talk
to anyone - for example she learned Italian while she lived in France so
she could talk and be friends with her next door neighbor. She could converse
in seven languages. She loved to take cruises, play Bingo, watch soap-operas,
dance the polka, and in her later years took up crocheting. There will
be a Memorial Service on Friday, February 8, 2008, at 7 p.m. at the Holy
Trinity Orthodox Christian Church, 140 Horseheads Blvd., in Elmira Heights.
Family and friends will be received at Holy Trinity on Saturday, February
9, 2008, from 12 to 1 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. with Father
Jason Kappanadze as celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Orthodox
Cemetery. Funeral arrangements under the direction of James D. Barrett

Paraska was a communicant of and devoted to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic
Church. Survivors include her daughters, Maria Derkacz of Elmira and Anna
Stecko-Miller of CA; sister, Anna Melnyk of WI; sister-in-law, Stephania
Regush of IL; nieces, Yaroslava Collins, Maria Melnyk and Anna Melnyk;
nephews, John Melnyk and Roman Melnyk. There will be no prior calling hours.

AM at the Barrett Funeral Home, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:30 AM
in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Rev. Janusz Jedrychowski will

Emilie Age 94, formerly of Magee Street, Elmira, New York, died on
Friday, September 23, 2005, at the Lakeside Beikirch Care Center in Brockport,
NY. Emilie was born on April 23, 1911 in the Ukraine. She was predeceased
by her husband, John Nideiwodin; daughter, Clara Ruday, and son-in-law,
Walter Ruday. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Victor and
Shirley Nideiwodin of Mesa, AZ; daughter and son-in-law, Valentina and
Wehner Landenburger of Stuttgart, Germany; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren;
along with several nieces and nephews. Emilie was a longtime member of
the Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church. A Funeral Service for Emilie
will be held on Wednesday, September 28th, at 10 a.m. at the James D. Barrett
Funeral Home, with Father Jason Kappanadze officiating. Interment will
follow in Holy Trinity Orthodox Cemetery.
