cemetery, as they are presented here, is like reading the multi-generational
history of a community. These people were the local populace at a particular
time. The people buried here knew each other, were neighbors, relatives
and school mates. They attended church together and engaged in "trade"
or business.
All people are listed in alphabetic order by surname at BIRTH. Women identified by a married alias only and for whom a birth surname can not be identified, are listed on the last page for the cemetery's obituaries. AMBROZIK Adam Joseph Age 59, of Woodland Park, CO, formerly of Horseheads, NY, passed away on Saturday, December 9th, 2006. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, January 16th, 2007, at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 130 Oakwood Avenue, Elmira Heights, NY, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A Memorial Service to celebrate Adam's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Woodlawn National Cemetery with full Military Honors accorded to him by the Chemung County Honor Squad. ANDREWS Charles R.
Age 81, of Elcor, formerly of Elmira, died Thursday, August 23, 2007.
Survived by wife of 60 years, Margaret; sons, Skip (Joanne) Andrews, Penn
Yan, NY, Stephen (Robin) Andrews, Gillett, PA, Douglas Andrews, Elmira,
Michael (Debra) Andrews, Elmira; daughter, Mindy (David) Beard, Elmira;
grandchildren, Jolene, Mat, Alesia, Christopher, Jason, Rickey, Katie,
Jamie, Eric, Kala, Kelly and Kevin; four great-grandchildren; sister, Grace
McDougal, MO; several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and
cousins. Charles retired as a manager of produce for area A&P grocery
stores, and a US Army Veteran serving in Europe during WWII. Those wishing
may make donations in his name to the Kidney Foundation or to the American
Heart Association (envelopes available at the Funeral Home). The family
will receive relatives and friends at the Kalec Funeral Home on Monday,
August 27, from 7 to 8 p.m. followed immediately by his Funeral Service
at 8 p.m., Father Bob Adkins, officiating. Burial at the convenience of
the family in Woodlawn National Cemetery.
ANDRUS –HELEN P. CASLER. Age 68, of Dry Run Road, Pine City, NY. Helen went to be with the Lord peacefully on Wednesday, June 11th, 2003, at her home after an extended illness. She is survived by her husband, Russell E. Casler; her children and grandchildren; Kirt (Jennifer) Casler and daughters Lynze and Tately of Columbia Cross Roads, PA; Kent Casler and son Christopher Casler of Pine City, NY; Kim (Jay) Stoltzfus and daughters McKensie and Morgan, son, Erich of Millport, NY; Kraig (Amy) Casler and daughters Megan and Danielle of Beaver Dams, NY; Karla Brown and sons Theron and Tevin of Elmira, NY; her brothers, Gerald (Rita) Andrus and family of Portville, NY; John Andrus and family of Franklinville, NY; and several nieces and nephews and a cousin. Helen was retired from the US Post Office in Pine City, NY after 25 years of friendly service, She was a very active member of the Millerton Wesleyan Church in Millerton, PA. ARTHUR - MILLER
Vera Arthur Adams Age 77, formerly of Ithaca, NY. She was born June
26, 1927 in Ithaca, daughter of the late Oscar and Eva (Grover) Arthur
and passed away Monday, June 6, 2005, at Tioga Nursing Home in Waverly.
She was predeceased by 2 sons, Randy and Dennis Adams, and is survived
by five children, Gloria and David Spell of Jacksonville, FL, Harold and
Beverly Adams of Horseheads, Glenna Shaw, Evea and Karl Klock, Robin Hodges
all of Statesville, NC; one sister, Leona Tobias of Elmira; along with
16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Vera retired from Borg Warner
in 1989, and was a member of the Eagles, Moose and V.F.W. all in Ithaca.
Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858
Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira, on Thursday, June 9th, from 10 a.m.
to 12 Noon. Her funeral service will be held at the conclusion of calling

ARNDT James T. Age 83 of Bath, NY formerly of Elmira, NY passed away on Wednesday November 9, 2005 at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. Jim was born October 26, 1922 in Renovo, Pennsylvania the son of the late Thomas L. and Mary A. Welsh Arndt. He was a veteran of WW II serving his country with The U.S. Coast Guard (Merchant Marine) and The U.S. Navy. Jim was a member of the Athens American Legion Post # 246, V.F.W Post # 1470, and the Sayre Elks Lodge # 1148. He worked as a bartender in Rochester, Corning, and Elmira then became a Correctional Officer with The Chemung County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Arndt worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad and retired as Building Manager for Villa Serene Apartments in Elmira Heights, NY and worked part-time for W.I.N. in Elmira following his retirement. He is pre-deceased by his parents Thomas L. Arndt and Mary A. Welsh Arndt Moore ; his sister Anna Grace Arndt Nickles and his son-in-law David L. Stowell who passed away on April 7, 2001. Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife Elizabeth "Betty" Fischer Arndt; sons and daughter-in-law: J. Patrick & Marcia Arndt of Horseheads, NY and John Thomas Arndt of Elmira, NY; daughter and son-in-law: Kathleen M. & Marty Worth of Fort Myers, Florida; grandchildren: John T. GERALD (Jerry) E. AUSTIN, SR. Age 63 of Elmira Heights, NY, Wednesday, November 1, 1995 at Bath Veterans Hospital, Bath, NY. Mr. Austin is survived by his wife, June I. Austin; children, Jeri and Donna Austin, Penny Wisneski, David Austin, Wendy and Don DiBucci, Holly Austin, Gerry Austin, Terralyn Austin; grandchildren, John, Rob and Eric Wisneski, Tatyana Austin, DJ and Alexis DiBucci. Gerald was born January 22, 1932 in Gillett, PA, one of 16 children born to August E. and Bessie (Blodgett) Austin. Surviving siblings are, Joyce Kinslow, Lynwood Austin, Merle Austin, Marilyn Jenkins, Milton (Stub) Austin, Marcia Austin, Marie Hudler, Mary Rummings, Carroll Austin, Barbara Mintz; several nieces and nephews. Jerry was a veteran of the Korean War, a life-long member of the Church of the Nazarene, and Elmira Heights Volunteer Fireman #13. He was employed by Streeter Associates for over 28 years. AVERY Edward R. Age 60, of Elmira NY, died Friday, August 4, 2006 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester NY after a 7 month battle following a liver transplant. Ed was born in Elmira, a son of the late Mark Longwell and Bertha Porter Avery. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janet Myers Avery; son Brian Avery of Athens PA with Angela Oakley and his children Tyler and Cara; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Luree Avery of Raleigh NC with their children Rees and Jordan; brothers, John D. Avery of Las Vegas and Harold Avery Sr. of Elmira; sister Beverly Maupin of Las Vegas; loving "sidekick" Zeus; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed was a flight engineer with the US Air Force from 1963 to 1969. He was a well known sheet metal worker in the Southern Tier. Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, always attentive to the needs of others. He had a special love in helping young people and was a 10 year Little League coach in Odessa. Ed, along with Janet, was also a 4H leader for 10 years. He enjoyed following NASCAR and has a variety of favorite drivers. Richard L. "Dick" Was blessed into peace after a courageous battle
with cancer, Tuesday, July 31, 2001 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Surviving Dick is his loving wife of 28 years, Ann E. Morse Bacon of Elmira;
Daughter, Noreen Luna of Pueblo, CO; Sons, Matthew and Michael Bacon both
of Elmira; 3 grandchildren, Daniel, Nicole, Kyle; Mother and Father, Merial
Allen of Millerton, PA, Arthur Bacon of Elmira; Brothers, Arthur Bacon
Jr., John Bacon, Roy Allen, David Allen, Jack Allen, Sisters, Jean Smith,
Linda Allen, and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited

NY Thursday, August 2nd, 2001 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 7:00PM to 9:00PM. Funeral

will be accorded. Dick was a very hard working man. He loved his family
and friends and the special moments they shared. Most recently Dick delivered
for Bill Lewis Trucking; in the past, he worked for Corning Inc. and Trayer
Products. Dick was very proud to be a Navy Veteran. Those close to him
knew him as a skilled bowler, accomplished carpenter, fellow Elmira Moose
Member, Yankee fan and fun loving, very hard working man. Many will hold
his memory close and never forget Dick's courage during the last year.
BAHANTKA William Joseph, Jr. Age 69, of Elmira Heights, NY. He was born April 19, 1936 in Lopez, PA, son of the late William Joseph, Sr. and Catherine (Kozemko) Bahantka and passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 19, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Rosemarie and Gary May; mother-in-law, Isabelle Newman on September 30, 2005. He is survived by his dear and loving wife of 47 years, Marilyn (Newman) Bahantka; children and grandchildren, William (Cheryll) Bahantka with their daughter, Jamie; Becky (Nicholas) Gilbert with their children, Rebecca, Nicholas and Elliot; Susan (Timothy) Matejka and their children, Summer (Jeremy) Flansburg with son, Jack, Heather (Zeke) Mansfield with daughter, Laura, Justine and Sara Poteat; Deborah (John) Tokar with their children, Jon-Michael and Kendyl; Stephen Bahantka (Kim Buchanan) and Amber Bahantka; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Darline Bahantka, Francis and Charlotte Bahantka; sister and brother-in-law, Darleen and Richard Gumtow; aunt, Julia Kozemko; cousins, Ted and Mike Kozemko; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was a lifelong resident of Elmira Heights. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Thatcher Glass after 25 years of service. Bill loved to hunt, fish, travel, cook and trips to the casinos. His passion after retirement was his gardens, green grass, spending time with his children and grandchildren, but especially traveling with his loving wife, Marilyn. At Bill's request, there will be no calling hours. BAIER Louis E. "Lew" A longtime resident of Plymouth Ave. Southport passed away, Tuesday evening, July 19, 2005 at his home with his family at his side following a battle with cancer at the age of 82. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Saturday, July 23, 2005 between the hours of 12 (noon) - 2 p.m. A memorial service will follow the visitation with Lew's pastor, the Reverend James Crupi of the Christian Faith Fellowship Church officiating. CLARENCE JUNIOR BAILEY, age 74, of Palm Bay, Florida, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2002 at the Holmes Regional Medical Center in Florida. Survivors include his wife, Teresa Bailey of FL, and their children, Brian, Michele and Donald Bailey all of FL; children from first marriage, Robert Bailey of Cayuta, NY, Sam (Phylis) Bailey of Bath, NY, Tim Bailey of Chemung, Rebecca (Patrick) Perry of Elmira Heights, Ken Bailey of Elmira and Jim Bailey of Elmira; brother, Loren (Pat) Bailey of FL; sister, Helen (Carl) Jeliff of FL. BAILEY, MARGARET L. (BAILEY) DECKER. Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, age 58 of Elmira, NY, died Sunday, March 26, 2000 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Margaret is survived by her husband of 39 years, Robert L. Decker. She is also survived by sons, Timothy J. and Steven M. Wallace E. BAILEY
Wellsboro- Wallace E. “Buzz” Bailey, 77, of Elmira Heights, N.Y., a
borough native, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
He owned and operated Putnam Pontiac-Cadillac Co. here and retired from
Wilson Store Equipment Inc., Elmira. He was a member of the Wellsboro
Men’s Chorus and the 70 plus Ski Club. An Army veteran of World War
II, he was a prisoner of war in Bucharest/Romania. He received the
European-African-Middle Eastern campaign ribbon with four bronze stars,
the Purple Heart and the air medal. He was a member of American Legion
Post 154 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6083 in New York. Born
Nov. 2, 1920, he was a son of Edwin C. and Mabel M. Robbins Bailey.
Surviving are his wife of 15 years, Linda; a daughter, Judith Jones of
Canton, Mich.; a son, James of Wellsboro; four stepchildren, Frank Crone
of Elmira, N.Y., Evelyn Five of Tampa, Fla., Lawrence Crone of St. Petersburg,
Fla., Dana Crone of Cape Vincent, N.Y.; four grandchildren; a great grandson.
He was predeceased by a sister, Olive. A memorial service will be
at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ballard & Lindgren’s, 161 Oakwood Ave., Elmira
Heights, with the Rev. E. Gene Callihan officiating. Interment, with
full military rites, will be in Woodlawn National Cemetery. Friends
may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
BAKER Gary L. Age 59, of Walnut St., Elmira, NY passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Gary was born in Elmira, son of the late Vern and Blanch (Ferguson) Baker. Gary served our country in the United States Army during Vietnam. Survivors include his loving wife, Sharon of 31 years; daughter, Lori Samchisen of Horseheads, NY; sons, Tim and Scott (special companion, Amy) Cummings, both of Elmira Heights, NY; grandchildren, Kelly and Zachary Samchisen, Ryan, Tara, and Brittiani Cummings; stepfather, Edward Shon of Horseheads, NY; sister, Alice (William) Erickson of Elmira; several nieces and nephews; best friend, David Hall Jr. of Elmira; his loved pet dogs, Cissy and Boo Boo. It was Gary's wishes that there would be no services held. Interment will take place in the Woodlawn National Cemetery with full military honors at the convenience of the family.
BALL Roland A. U.S. AirForce, Major Retired Age 87 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Thursday March 16, 2006. Mr. Ball was born March 19, 1918 in Ambridge, Pennsylvania the son of the late William and Pauline Fink Ball. Major Ball was a veteran of WW II serving his country with the U.S. Army Air Corps and retired from The U.S. Air Force Reserves with the rank of Major. Roland was pre-deceased by his wife, Alma Lenore Reed Ball, on January 16, 1993. Mr. Ball was a retired school teacher having taught for over 26 years at the Dryden Central School System in Dryden, NY. He enjoyed square dancing and spending time with his friends. Roland is survived by his loving and caring companion Mildred E. Scaife; son: Carmen Lee Ball of Elmira, NY; daughter: Sharon L. Wight of Arizona; grandchildren: David A. Wight and Kari L. Wight; three great grandchildren; sister: Eleanor Grabnegger of Silver Springs, Maryland; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. It was Mr. Ball's wish that there be no prior calling hours. EDWARD JOHN BARSAVAGE, age 78, formerly of 304 Baty St., Elmira, NY. Born October 19, 1919 in Bernice-Mildred, PA, the son of the late John Paul and Katherine (Kozelski) Barsavage. Passed away Thursday, December 25, 1997 at Elcor Health Services, Horseheads, NY. Edward is survived by his loving wife, Clara Tinkham. Recently they celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on December 11th. Other survivors include his children: Charles E. (Rae) Barsavage, Esther M. (John) Bresett, Michael E. Barsavage, all of Elmira, NY; sister Alice (Steve) Sysock of Bernice, PA; grandchildren: Christopher Anger of Southgate, MI; Stacy and Eric Bresett, Alexander and Jason Barsavage, all of Elmira, NY; along with 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Mr. Barsavage retired from Thatcher Glass after 35 years of service as a machine operator. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1943-1945 and was a member of the Bernice American Legion in Bernice, PA. Family and friends are invited to call at the Ballard and Lindgren Funeral Home, 161 Oakwood Ave, Elmira, NY on Sunday, December 28, 1997 from 2 to 4 p.m. Funeral Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours (4 p.m.). BATES Allen F.
Indepenpent Contract Pilot - Was born January 25, 1927 in Binghamton,
NY, the son of the late Allen L. and Mable A. (Mosher) Bates, passed away
peacefully on Sunday, July 8, 2007, at Elcor Health Services at the age
of 80. His adored children, Carol Steptoe and Allen Bates predeceased him.
Allen is survived by his loving wife and favorite Co-Pilot, "Schatz" Jeanne
and his beloved "Micey" Katie, both at home; beloved "Chief," JoAnn Glover
with husband, John; son-in-law, J. W. Steptoe; grandchildren, Terry (Crystal)
Steptoe, Bobby (Monica) Bates, Jesse Bates, Amanda, Toyann, Tara, Kara
and Ty Robert, all of Texas; great-grandchildren, Blaze, Victoria, Natalee,
Emmalee, Taya and David; special cousins, Sandi (Brian) Wood and Billy
Mosher; along with many flying buddies. At his request, there will be no
prior calling hours or services. Private interment will take place in the
Woodlawn National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The Bates

staff and personnel of Elcor Health Services and Southern Tier Hospice

BATROWNY William M.
Of Southport, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 following
an enjoyable morning of fishing. Born on February 4, 1922 in Elmira. Bill
was the son of Charles & Emily Fadel Batrowny. He served in the US
Army from 1942 - 1945. After returning home from the war, Bill married
Helen Aitchison in August 1949. He was employed by Hilliard Corp. as a
tool & die maker for 43 years until his retirement. Bill enjoyed gardening,
walking in his neighborhood, the outdoors, fishing, sporting events and
all activities with his sons, grandchildren and other family members. Surviving
is his wife and companion of 58 years, Helen Aitchison Batrowny, Southport;
along with their children, George (Sandy) Batrowny, Elmira; Thomas Batrowny,
Southport; and Peter (Darlene) Batrowny; Horseheads; seven cherished grandchildren,
Jason, Kelley, Lindsay, Molly, Brooke, Alana and Andrew Batrowny; a brother,
George (Betty) Batrowny, West Elmira; a sister, Jeanne Defalco, Long Island,
NY; a sister-in-law, Maime Joseph, Southport; brothers-in-law, William
(Kay) Aitchison and Peter (Isabelle) Aitchison of Scotland; along with

BELCHER - George L. Belcher Jr., 74, went to be with his loving Lord on July 23, 2008 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be missed by all who knew him. He was born on April 22, 1934 in Sayre a son of the late George and Mavis (Hausknecht) Belcher. George was a proud Marine who served his country from 1955-1958 and then spent a number of years in the reserves. He had a passion for trains, volunteering for the Tioga Central Railroad as a break-man and switch operator. He also enjoyed watching football, especially the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed county music, traveling and spending time with his family and collecting bald eagles. He is survived by wife Marcia Eccleston, Waverly; children: Allan (Elizabeth) Belcher of Sayre; Patricia Hemenway of Roanoke, Va.; Brothers Paul (Anne) Belcher, Athens; Dale Belcher, Williamsport, Pa.; Donald Belcher, Sayre; grandchildren Cassandra Belcher, Aaron Hemenway and Jessica (Rob) Ketchum; great grandchildren Jeremiah Ketchum and Patrick Hemenway. DEAN K. BELLOWS, 77, OF Towanda died Monday evening, Oct. 10, 1994, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center; Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Born May 17, 1917, in Wysox, he was a son of the late Kelsey and Margaret Chaapel Bellows. Mr. Bellows was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He later was employed by Gordon Robbins, mason contractor of Troy, for many years. Dean was a member of East Smithfield VFW Post No. 7378. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Surviving are: his wife, Ruby Bump Bellows; a daughter, Marian Bellows of Towanda RR 4; three sons, Timothy Bellows and Dewey Bellows, both of Towanda RR 3, and James Bellows of Towanda; a sister, Mary Shanfelt of California; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Dustin and Danny Bellows; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. BENNETT –LOIS R. STORCH passed away Thursday April 4, 2002 unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep at her home in Elmira at the age of 73. Born on January 5, 1929 in Rome, PA, Lois was the daughter of Willis and Ruth Rutty Bennett. She married John F. Storch on September 21, 1947 at Epworth United Methodist Church in Elmira and they made their home here ever since. Grace M. nee: Black Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Friend Age
82, of Elmira, went to be with the Lord and her beloved husband of 50 years,
Hank, on Friday, October 28, 2005 at home, surrounded by her loving family
after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Canandaigua, NY,
the daughter of William and Florence Bailey Black on March 23, 1923. She
was predeceased by her parents; husband, Hank; son, Richard; sister, Geraldine;
and brother, William, Jr.; and is survived by her daughter, Mary Theresa,
Farmington, NY; granddaughters, Ailisa and Stephanie, Rochester; great-granddaughters,
Kaeleigh and Grace of Rochester; a sister, Evelyn Jane Soper, Ralston,
PA; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Grace was a retired employee
of Arnot-Ogden Medical Center and the Supreme Court Library. She was a
lifelong member of St. Casimir's Church where she devoted many years of
service to the Church Bingo committee and pierogi making and was a Member
of its Rosary/Sacred Heart Society and the Wanda Circle. She will be sadly
missed until we see her again. Family will receive relatives and friends

BLAKE - FULMER, Gertrude B.
A long time resident of the Fassett and Gillett communities passed
away Monday, January 7, 2008 while under the care of Bethany Health Care
and Southern Tier Hospice at the age of 84. Born on September 22, 1923
in Philadelphia, PA, Gertrude was the daughter of John E. & Blanche
S. Otto Blake. She was a loving wife to her husband, Elmer Elsworth Fulmer
Jr. for over 50 years until his passing in 1994. Their first 20 years of
marriage were spent in the Philadelphia, PA area before moving to the Fassett,
PA. In serving the Lord, she was an active member of the Fassett Baptist
Church. Honored by her family heritage, Gertrude was an active member of
the Daughters of the American Revolution with over 50 years of service.
Very social Gerturde made friends easily, as was the case at Bethany Manor.
Surviving are her loving sons and their families, Elmer (Bonnie) Fulmer,
Dallas, TX; Richard "Dick" (Marge) Fulmer, Gillett, PA; Allen (Barbara)

Age 47 of Big Flats, NY passed away on Monday July 7, 2008. Alan was
born July 12, 1960 in Sayre, PA. He was a graduate of Southside High School
Class of 1978. Alan was a Veteran serving his country with The U.S. Air
Force from 1978 - 1982. Alan married his wife, Maureen A. McDonald Blaney,
on October 9, 1982 and they would have celebrated their 26th Wedding Anniversary
this year. He was a graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing in Minneapolis,
Minnesota. Alan was employed as a Registered Nurse at Southport Correctional
Facility in Elmira, NY and was previously employed by Founder's Pavilion
in Corning, NY. He was pre-deceased by his grandparents, his mother-in-law
Alice McDonald, and his father-in-law Ewan McDonald. Alan was a loving
husband, father, son, brother, and friend. His daughters Emily and Claire
were the "Center of His Universe" and his Pride and Joy. He loved being
a husband and father as his family was his life. His home was his castle
and he loved nothing more than spending time there, entertaining family
and friends or alone, working on home improvement projects, playing guitar
and the piano, tinkering with computers, tending to his garden or working
in his yard. Alan was an excellent nurse who always strived to do his very
best. Alan was an avid golfer who will be remembered for his sense of humor,
his creativity and desire to leave the world a little better than the way
he found it. And he certainly did that without question. He will be dearly
missed by all who loved him and were touched by his life. Alan is survived
by his loving devoted wife of over 25 years Maureen A. Blaney; his daughters

BOGH - NOONAN, Karen
Of South Main St. Elmira, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at the
Arnot-Ogden Medical Center following an illness at the age of 79. Born
on May 8, 1928 in Hjorring, Denmark, Karen was the daughter of Laurits
& Edith Rasmussen Bogh. She was a loving wife and companion to her
husband David Noonan Jr. until his passing in 2001. She graduated from
Elmira Business Institute and was employed by both Hills and Ames Department
Stores following their closing she began employment for the American Red
Cross in Elmira as an office worker. During her employment she held the
responsibility of encouraging people to donate a life saving gift. Her
many interests included gardening, bike riding and caring for her pet birds.
Karen was very active and enjoyed the challenge each day presented. Karen
is survived by her loving children, David & Laura Noonan , Pine City;
Laurits Noonan, Elmira; Colleen Scalzo, Elmira; Patrick Noonan, Elmira;
Kevin & Eileen Noonan, Elmira; twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren,
a sister, Vivika Bailey, Mansfield, PA; and a niece, Lisa Bailey. In honoring
her wishes all services will be private and held at the families convenience.

1983. Bill then started a second career as a drug and alcohol counselor
with the Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Clinic in Elmira. In 1992 the
Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of Chemung County honored Bill as the recipient
of the Brian R. Nagy, M.D. Professional Excellence Award for outstanding
contributions to the substance abuse field. He was also active in the community,
having been a member and past-president of the Painted Post Kiwanis Club.

formerly of Long Island and Horseheads, NY passed away on Saturday July
23, 2005. Mrs. Davis was born August 2, 1923 in Springfield, MA the daughter
of the late Edward and Mary Morrison Bowen. She married her husband, Edgar
C. Davis, on April 5, 1947 and he pre-deceased her on May 27, 2000. Mrs.
Davis was member a of The Sullivanville United Methodist Church. Grace
was a former employee of Macy's in Roosevelt Field, L.I., NY and worked
at Elmira Savings Bank prior to her retirement. Mrs. Davis loved her family
and friends and cherished the time she spent with them. Grace is survived
by her loving and devoted sons and daughters-in-law: Edgar C. & Geraldine
Davis of Oceanside , NY and Kevin W. & Joanne Davis of Pensacola, Florida
with whom she had resided; six granddaughters, three great granddaughters

BRADY Francis X. Dr. Age 81 of Elmira, NY passed away on Wednesday January 10, 2007 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, NY. Dr. Brady was born January 29, 1925 in Hanover, PA the son of the late Francis X. and Katherine Keller Brady. He was a Veteran of WW II serving his country with the US Navy attaining the rank of Ensign. Frank received his Bachelor's Degree from Shippensburg State College and also received his Master's Degree in Education from Shippensburg State College. Frank married his wife, Margaret Shaffer "Mart" Brady, on June 21, 1952 and she pre-deceased him on September 27, 1992. He taught school and coached football in Pennsylvania for several years. Frank was elected to The Southern Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame as a Football Coach. During his entire career in education he became a mentor and advisor to many teachers as well as students who continued to keep in contact with him. Dr. Brady received his Doctorate Degree (PHD) in History in 1965 from Ball State University. Dr. Brady was The Dean of Continuing Education at Elmira College from 1965-1989. He was also a Professor Emeritus at Elmira College. "Chub" as he was affectionately known by his family and friends was a long-time member of The Corning Country Club and wrote The Chatter Newsletter for many years. Frank enjoyed his golfing trips to Blue Mountain with his golfing buddies through the years. He was an avid reader, golfer, enjoyed listening to music especially jazz, and watching football games and golf matches. Frank was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Elmira, NY. "Doc" loved his family and friends and cherished every moment he spent with them. JOHN JOSEPH BRADY, 71, Canton, formerly of New Jersey, passed away, September 15, 2002, at the Wilkes-Barre VA Hospital, following a period of declining health. Born on January 10, 1931, in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth Banorden Brady. Mr. Brady honorably served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed as grounds keeper for the McCallum Manor in Canton until failing health no longer permitted him to continue. Mr. Brady loved his family and enjoyed country music. Preceding him in death were his beloved wife of 21 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Brady, September 13, 1996. Surviving are his children; Cate Kendrick, Austin, TX, John Brady II, Greenfield Park, NY; stepdaughter, Rose Gilmer, Circleville, OH; grandchildren, Shaun Verdi, Jimmy and Nicky Gilmer. Euphemia W. "Jackie" Age 79 of Olcott Rd. South, Big Flats, NY, passed
away Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at Elcor Health Services. Jackie was born February
13, 1922 in Vergennes, VT, the daughter of Garfield and Cyrena 'Peggy"
Briggs. She married John. F. Kozinsky, March 4, 1957 in Big Flats, NY.
He predeceased her May 30, 1998. Jackie had worked over 20 years as a bookkeeper
at Minier's Grocery in Big Flats. She was a member of the Big Flats American
Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by a son, John D. "Jay" (Karen) Kozinsky
of Elmira Heights; daughter, Janice Lynch of Claverack, NY; brother, Mr.
& Mrs. Joe Ferris of Bristol, VT; grandchildren, Steven C. and Timothy

predeceased by his wife, Nancy (Givens) Brown on June 5, 2006; and grandson,

BRUNSKILL - BRILL, Catherine L., Of Elmira, NY, Was born August 7, 1924 in Hornell, NY, the daughter of the late Arthur and Mildred (Collins) Brunskill, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital at the age of 83. Her brothers, Mason and William Brunskill also predeceased her. On September 1, 1945, Catherine Brunskill was united in Holy Matrimony with her beloved Francis J. Brill at St. Mary's Church. They have enjoyed 62 wonderful years of life and love together. She is survived by her loving husband, Francis; daughter, Joan Cerio; son, Robert (Jeanann) Brill; son, Paul (Viola) Brill; and daughter, Christine (John) Thomas, all of Elmira, NY; adored grandchildren, Suzette Morgan, Claudia Cerio (Chris Carrigan), Kara (Ben) Clark, Robert (Chris) Brill Jr., Peter Joseph Brill, Amanda Thomas and Graham Thomas; much loved great-grandchildren, Isadora Morgan, Tristan Morgan, Balin Clark, Emily, Kaliann, Caden and Avery Brill; sisters, Jean Lunn and Ella Wilkins, both of Hornell, NY, Mary Howe of Arkport, NY, Helen Frost of Mesa, AZ; along with several sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. She loved to travel and has a fond memory of Square Dancing on the Rhine River in Germany with her beloved Francis. She was an accomplished seamstress and talented gardener. She will always be remembered for being a wonderful hostess and the master of tea parties. Her potato salad and spaghetti sauce will be cherished memories that the family will also remember. Catherine was a collector and keeper of friends. November 26, 2007. Mr. Bryan was born July 8, 1922 in the Town of Erin,

of WW II serving his country with The U.S. Marine Corps. Melvin married
his wife, Carolina M. Palmieri Bryan, on April 15, 1950 and she pre-deceased
him on April 30, 1999. He was also pre-deceased by five brothers and two
sisters. Mr. Bryan was a retired employee of Elm Chevrolet in Elmira, NY.
He was a communicant of St. Casimir's Church in Elmira, NY. Melvin loved
his family and friends especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren

BURDICK William R. "Bill" Age 75, passed away Friday, October 19th, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital. Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a life long member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Elmira, NY. Bill spent time at the church as a member of their Wake-Up Class. He was also a member of; the Big Flats Masonic Lodge # 378 F & AM, the Harmony Loyal O.E.S., past Grand Associate Sentinel O.E.S., Cashmere Grotto, Elmira Heights American Legion Post #954 and Elmira Heights VFW Rexfield Post #901. Bill was a bus driver for the Mark Twain Cadetes. Much of Bill's free time was spent doing volunteer work, especially for Meals on Wheels. He was a former Boy Scouts of America scout leader and a past PTA president at Elmira Hardy School. He was a volunteer at both the Booth School and with RSVP. BURK Charles H.
Age 80, of Roberts Hollow Road, Lowman, New York, passed away Sunday,
April 15, 2007, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility following a lengthy
illness. He was born September 24, 1926 in Sayre, PA, son of the late Norman
and Minnie (Lyons) Burk. Charles attended area schools and was married
to the late Eloise M. (Petoski) Burk who passed away February 16, 1997.
He entered the United States Navy on October 18, 1943 and served in WWII,
the Korean War and Vietnam War and was discharged from active duty on March
4, 1963. Charles remained in the Naval Reserves and was fully retired with
30 years of service on September 1, 1973. He was also retired from F.M.
Howell & Company where he worked in the machine set-up department.
Charles enjoyed having coffee everyday with his friends at the Lowman Post
Office and at Ann's Pancakes. Survivors include his longtime neighbors
the Donovan family, Joe and Anne, Joe, Jennifer; friends, Tammy Adams,
Dan and Barb Adams, Marissa and Jacob Adams; a nephew, Charles Atwood of
Yulee, FL; and canine friend, "Woodie". His wife, Eloise M. Burk; a sister,
Geraldine Atwood, and brother, Gilbert Burk, predeceased him. Services
will be private with Charles being laid to rest with full Military Honors
next to his wife Eloise in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, NY. Funeral

BURNS - ESSEN, Loretta M.
Age 96 formerly of Schuyler Ave., Elmira, died Saturday April 12, 2008
at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center Skilled Nursing Unit were she had been
a resident for several years. Loretta was born in Ossining NY, a daughter
of John J. and Margaret Lynch Burns. She was predeceased by her husband
Casimir Essen in 1955 and a son Francis M. Essen in 1969. Loretta is survived
by her daughter and son-in-law, Judith A. and Thomas Beecher of Pine City;
son Richard E. Essen; grandchildren, Thomas (Sonya) Beecher Jr. of Richmond
VA, Michelle Aber of Pine City; Michael (Jennifer) Essen of Dallas GA,
Patrick Essen of Atlanta GA, Maureen Essen of Missoula MT; great grandchildren,
Haley, Finnegan, Keagan, Karen and Madison; sister, Margaret Burns Cady
of Elmira; several nieces, nephew and cousins. Loretta was a graduate of
Cortland State University. She taught for 40 years in New York State with
35 of those years being in Elmira at Parley Coburn and Riverside schools.
Loretta was a lifetime member of both the Retired Teachers Association
of New York State and the Retired Teachers Association of the Elmira area.
She was a longtime communicant of Ss. Peter & Paul Church which is
now part of Blessed Sacrament Parish. In earlier years she was active at
the church as a Eucharistic minister, was a member of the Parish Sunshine

Burial on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Ss. Peter & Paul
Church. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Woodlawn National

BUTTERS Donald Age 82, of Elmira, died January 11, 2006. He is survived by wife, Frances Maynard; daughters, Bonnie (Donnie) Hammond, Erin, Shawn Arnold, Waverly; son, Jim (Liz) Maynard, Newport News, VA; grandchildren, James, Sabrina, Jeffrey, Raymond, Donna, John, Christopher, Alex and Hunter; brothers, Frank (Marion) Mitchell, E. Smithfield, PA, Howard (Julie) Butters, Elmira, William (Lois) Butters, Athens, PA, Gerald Butters, Elmira; several nieces and nephews. Donald was a veteran of the US Navy. Those wishing may make a donation to the Kidney Foundation in his memory (envelopes available at the funeral home). He was a self-employed carpenter and a member of the American Legion. The Family will receive relatives and friends at the Kalec Funeral Home on Saturday, January 14, 2006, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with funeral service immediately following at 2 p.m. Rev. Andrew Foster, officiating. Followed by Committal Prayers and Military Honors at Woodlawn National Cemetery where he will be interred.
BUTTON – Leslie M. Button aged 55, for many years a resident of Sylvania, died at the home of his aunt, Mrs. Jennie Sherman, last Saturday, Sept. 16, 1950. His aunt, Mrs. Sherman, was his only close survivor but there are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in Soper & Vickery Funeral Home Tuesday at 1 p.m., Rev. Harry V. Peters, with burial in the Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira.
BUZZETTI
Richard G. "Dick" Age 62, of Erin, NY. He was born December 9, 1942
in Elmira, son of John F. and Mary L. (Spetaccino) Buzzetti and passed
away Tuesday, October 25, 2005, at home after a 2 year battle with brain
cancer. He was predeceased by his father John, and is survived by his wife
of 40 years, Margaret "Peggy" (Nichols) Buzzetti; children, Richard (Shelley)
Buzzetti of Erin, Robert Buzzetti of Tucson, AZ, Stacie (Bryant) Buzzetti-Angrove
of Horseheads, Ryan (Erin) Buzzetti of Horseheads, Shannon (Bocky Kitchin)
Buzzetti of Elmira Heights and Mike (Donna) Silvia of Elmira; grandchildren,
Mackenzie, Kennedy, Bailey, Reese, Karlie, Alex, Kamryn, Rylie; and two
expectant grandchildren; mother, Mary L. Buzzetti of Elmira; brothers,
Robert (Mary Ann) Buzzetti of Orlando, FL, Chuck (Nancy) Buzzetti and Peter
Buzzetti, both of Elmira along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Dick was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Antares. He
retired from a career in purchasing, from Expeditor to Director of Purchasing;
was past treasurer of NPMA and a member of the American Legion Post 442,
Horseheads. Dick and his brothers enjoyed their trips to the Corvette shows,
a tradition he hoped will continue. Family and friends are invited to visit
Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on
Thursday, October 27th, from 4 to 7 p.m. His memorial service will follow
at 7 p.m. Rev. Robert Russell will officiate. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn
National Cemetery Columbarium at the convenience of the family. Dick's
family is very thankful for all the prayers and offerings provided to them
by family and friends. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses from the
Elmira, Syracuse and Albany VA medical facilities for their excellent care
and compassion. A special thanks to his "girl" Suzie who took such loving
care of him. Those wishing may remember Dick through donations to the Breesport
Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue, Breesport, NY 14816.
