Do You Know that you can search just the Obituaries on the site by using the three County Specific Obituary selections in the Partitioned search engine at the bottom of the Current What's New Page? You can narrow your search by including a key word in the cemetery name or a township name in addition to the surname you search. Then select the Find All Words option.
You'll also find obituary and other newspaper clippings using Clippings partition. Additional clippings can be found in the Birth, Marriage, and some other partitions.

Reading a series of obituaries from a single cemetery, as they are presented here, is like reading the multi-generational history of a community. These people were the local populace at a particular time. The people buried here knew each other, were neighbors, relatives and school mates. They attended church together and engaged in "trade" or business.

All people are listed in alphabetic order by surname at BIRTH. Women identified by a married alias only and  for whom a birth surname can not be identified, are listed on the last page for the cemetery's obituaries. Please send in typed obituaries for people buried in our local cemeteries. If possible include name of newspaper and date. Send typed in your email or in attached Word files. Send to Joyce M. Ira Jones, for twenty-three years an employee of the Elmira, Cortland railroad, died last Sunday morning at the Arnot Ogden hospital, aged thirty-seven years.  One week ago last Tuesday Mr. Jones was taken ill and was removed to the hospital, where the attending physician diagnosed his case as an attack of typhoid fever.  His illness was not considered serious until Saturday night, when he was attacked with a severe fit of vomiting and sank gradually until death relieved his sufferings.  The immediate cause of death was pronounced to be a rupture, through vomiting of the avdominal viscera.  The funeral services, Rev. Dr. Mills, officiating, were held from his home, No. 66 West Clinton Street, Thursday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock, and the interment was in Woodlawn.  The floral tributes were especially beautiful, and included a pillow O.R. & C. No. 9, with the inscription "O.R. & C., division 9," and a handsome floral piece from the employees of the Elmira, Cortland & Northern.  The pall bearers were Messers Jacob Hinman, Ed Ostrander, Valentine Flynn, Patrick Lane, Elmer Quimby and Matthew Webb.  Mr. Jones commenced to work for the Elmira, Cortland & Northern company as a water boy in 1878.  Faithfully performing his duties of his humble position, he was rapidly advanced.  He was at one time a section boss and at the time of his death was a passenger conductor, honored alike of both patrons and officials of the road.  He is survived by three children, two girls and a boy.(can not read the rest of the article).
