| Reading a series of obituaries from a single
cemetery, as they are presented here, is like reading the multi-generational
history of a community. These people were the local populace at a particular
time. The people buried here knew each other, were neighbors, relatives
and school mates. They attended church together and engaged in "trade"
or business.
All people are listed in alphabetic order by surname at BIRTH. Women identified by a married alias only and for whom a birth surname can not be identified, are listed on the last page for the cemetery's obituaries. Please send in typed obituaries for people buried in our local cemeteries. If possible include name of newspaper and date. Send typed in your email or in attached Word files. Send to Joyce M. Ed never blew his own horn; he set a standard for all men to be measured by, both as a father and a husband. Rare is the person to have heard a bad word spoken about Ed. His sense of humor and character are a legacy his family is proud to be a part of. Ed always kept abreast of his kids' and grandkids' lives, from attending their sporting events, to writing letters of praise and encouragement during basic training, to talking about yesterday's Yankee game. It wasn't until he retired from the NYS Department of Corrections in 1990, that Eddie's kids realized what a great sense of humor he had. Ed's children would like to express their gratitude to his relatives and many close friends who have demonstrated what true friendship is, by always supporting our family during many health crisis and "bumps in the road" through the years. McBride, Carol "Cokie" Doane MEACHAM of Morgantown, W.Va., died very unexpectedly on Saturday, July 31, 2004. She is survived by her cherished family including husband, Steve; son Sean, a first lieutenant serving in the U.S. Army with the First Cavalry in Iraq; and daughter, Megan of Morgantown. She is also survived by her brother Carl Meacham III of Elmira and sister Martha Meacham of Driftwood, Texas; nephew, Charlie, and niece Laura, and her Aunt Peg Russell of Baldwinsville, N.Y. Carol was born on July 5, 1944, in Syracuse, N.Y., to the late Carl and Jeanne Meacham. She grew up in Elmira, N.Y., graduating from Elmira Southside High School in 1962. In 1966, Carol received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Syracuse University, where she met and later married her husband, Steve, on June 15,1968. There wasn't a more devoted spouse or mother. She was a very active President of the Second Ward Elementary School Parent Teachers Association. She volunteered as a band board mom, soccer mom, basketball mom, and band camp nurse. Last year, Carol was honored for 20 years of valuable service in numerous capacities as both a nurse and supervisor at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. She currently had been serving as Outcomes Manager in the Case Management Department. Carol was one hundred percent professional. Her same talents as an outspoken child advocate were used to take care of the many people who came under her nursing care. She always understood that the patient came first and never waivered from that belief. She was a visiting nurse and also served for a time at the Veterans' Hospital in White River Junction, Vermont. She loved to travel, often taking the scenic highway to appreciate so many little vistas of the world around her. Her love of life was totally infectious. At least one complete closet and part of the basement were devoted to her collection of board games and "memorabilia," a major reason why it was always fun to gather at the McBride home. To know Carol and spend time with her was to experience the meaning of family, friends, tradition, and laughter, always laughter. Those of us touched personally by Carol will remember her compassion, generosity and her genuine interest in the people around her. The family will receive visitors at the Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, WV 26505 on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Elmira, N.Y. on Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at 11 a.m., followed by burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Lung Association P.O. Box 3980, Charleston, WV 25339 in Carol's memory.

It is hard to sing of oneness when our world is not complete, when those who once brought wholeness to our life have gone, and naught but memory can fill the emptiness their passing leaves behind. But memory can tell us only what we were, in company with those we loved; it cannot help us find what each of us, alone, must now become. Yet no one is really alone; those who live no more, echo still within our thoughts and words, and what they did is part of what we have become. We do best homage to our dead when we live our lives most fully, even in the shadow of our loss. For each of our lives is worth the life of the whole world; in each one is the breath of the Ultimate One. In affirming the One, we affirm the worth of each one whose life, now ended, brought us closer to the Source of life, in whose unity no one is alone and every life finds purpose.
