Hi all-
I am looking for information on the Hendy and McCreight families. I think
they were both from the Chemung County area.
Allen Hendy married Margaret McCreight sometime in the late 20's. Her sister, Emily, married Isaac Baldwin and her other sister, Charlotte, married ? Lamphear.
Don't know too much about these 2 families.

Hi all-
This is what I know about these families.
John Gunderman was born in the Tri Counties area on April 2, 1881 and died in Elmira on August 28, 1976. He was married to Frances Schaff until her death in 1918. She is buried in the Wilawana Cemetery with alot of other Schaff's but I'm not sure who is who.
Their son was William J Gunderman Sr. He was born in Waverly, New York. He married Rachel Steck the daughter of George Steck and Carrie Nicholas. She was born in Renovo, Clinton Co. in 1906.
Anybody know these families?
Thanks,
Debbie Gunderman, Joderg@aol.com

If anyone might have any info about Jedediah Hunt, b: 1782, CT, d: Oct 30, 1864, Canton, Bradford Co, PA
There is also a Jared HUNT listed in the Veteran's section of Joyce's site. He is listed as b: 29 MAR 1792, d: 17 APR 1862, and buried at East Canton Cemetery.
Jedediah lived in Leroy Twp. for the 1850 and 1860 Census, and is very near the East Canton Cemetery.
If anyone has any info on either of these HUNTs, please reply. Thanks, Larry Hunt Pittsburgh, PA LTbh150@aol.com
Hello everyone and especially Joyce for such an outstanding site.
I would greatly appreciate any information on the Donley or Vergason families from Bradford County. I have a James Squire Donley born August 26, 1839 in Bradford county son of James Franklin Donley and Sarah Ann ?.
James S. Donley married Amanda M. Vergason, February 16, 1864, in Friendship, Allegany County, NY.
I also have were James S. Donley and Samuel M. Donley, brothers who were in Company I, 45th regiment for the civil war.
These 2 brothers moved to Reed City, Michigan by land grants from the civil war in the mid to late 1860's.
If anyone knows of any Donley's or Vergason's in this area in the early 1800's please contact me and I thank everyone in advance.

Buried in the Old Cooper Cemetery of Ridgebury Twp. is Esther (surname unknown), died 1841, wife of George COOPER. I'm trying to discover Esther's maiden name.
George COOPER (1803-1863) was born in New York and migrated to Bradford Co., Pennsylvania, sometime before 1830. He's also buried in the Old Cooper Cemetery.
George apparently remarried after Esther's death and his family was enumerated in the 1850 census of Ridgebury Twp.:
The 1850 census of Ridgebury Township (f221, p409) lists: Cooper George 46 M 3000 Farmer NY Cooper Nancy 26 F PA Cooper Henry 19 M Farmer PA Cooper Addison 15 M PA Cooper Orrin 17 M Farmer PA Cooper Emma 10 F PA Cooper Adaline 5 F PA Cooper Edmund 3 M PA Cooper Milton 6m M PA
The children named Henry, Addison, Orrin and Emma are the children of George COOPER and Esther (surname unknown). Addison, Orrin and Emma all claimed their mother, Esther, was born in Pennsylvania.
Finally, some family history records indicate that Esther (surname unknown) was widowed from a Cooper before she married to George COOPER. At the time of her marriage to George COOPER, Esther was identified as "Mrs. Esther Cooper."
Any help unraveling this mystery (Esther's maiden name) would be much appreciated.

Hope I'm not running too late with this last query.
Has anyone run across the Mrs Dickerson that Heverly refers to on p 90, Vol II, Pioneer & Patriot Families? (Bradford County)
In that section, he names the children of Abraham (Abram) DUNHAM and includes a Mary (Mrs Dickerson). Family records indicate her name was more likely Mercy or Marcy but I have been unable to definitely locate her under any name.
Appreciate any assistance on this one.

Elizabeth SHOEMAKER b 1803 PA (probably Delaware twp, Norhthampton Co) married (1824) Sackett HILL b. 1799 NY. Whose daughter was she?
In the early 1800s, there were 3 SHOEMAKER households that settled in Tioga Co NY in the portions that would become Chemung County - Isaac, Abram, and John. They are probably brothers (sons of Isaac Sr.) but it's hard to tell since those given names are so recyclable/interchangeable in the SCHOONMAKER lines.
John is first shown on census 1820 Spencer Tioga NY nearby John HILL, father of Sackett, and other households John HILL's children married with (FLANDERS, VLETENBURGH (VREDENBERG), LOTT, WESTBROOK). In 1819 John and wife Phebe DECKER adopted Catharine SPERRY whose mother died at her birth. The census shows 1 boy and 2 girls, so one is baby Catharine. 1820 even includes John McDUFFY whose son Catharine will later marry.
I have identified which children belong to Isaac and Abram. A problem is that I've been unable to learn who was John & Phebe's son, and who was that other daughter. Our Elizabeth doesn't belong with Isaac or Abraham. Only John and Phebe remain in the right place at the right time.
(say what you're going to say, say it, say what you said)
Can anyone out there help document that our Elizabeth was for sure daughter to Johannes SCHOONMAKER (John SHOEMAKER) and Phebe DECKER?

Kane, Ryan, Middendorf, Elston, Bahen or Behan
Michael KANE and wife Hannah RYAN lived on N. Main Street from abt. 1882-1913.
Michael was a gardener for I don't know who, but I believe it was one private
family. Their children were Thomas (Derrick), Hannora Elizabeth (Anne)
MIDDENDORF , and Margaret Frances (Francie) ELSTON. A big family mystery
surrounds Michael's father, Simon KANE, who also lived on N. Main Street with
2nd wife Mary CAHILL. Simon was reportedly widowed by his first wife, Margaret
BAHEN/BEHAN, except I find Margaret living in the Waverly area for most of the
time that Simon is in Elmira. My guess is that they considered eachother dead,
then moved on with their lives--a common practice I've observed in midwest
pioneer families. But my family does not yet buy into this theory.

Sheeley (Sheely, Sceli, Schiele, Schele)
I am still searching. Jacob SHEELEY is a very elusive person.
Jacob SHEELEY married Maria LAUTENSCHLAGER sometime before 1838. They had two
children, Peter, born in 1838 and Margareth Magdalena, born in 1839, both were
baptized at the United German Evangelical Lutheran and Reformed Zion Congregation
in Blackhouse, Liberty Township, Tioga County. Apparently Jacob and Maria were
divorced or Maria died, as Jacob married Harriet MITSCHELE, before 1848. Jacob
SHEELEY and his family are listed in the 1850 census in Liberty Township, Tioga
County, and in 1860 they are listed in Columbiana County, Ohio. But in 1862 he
had another child born in Pennsylvania, before moving to Missouri to homestead.
Does anyone out there have any information on Jacob Sheeley as to where he came
from in Germany and when?
What happened to his first wife, Maria Lautenschlager?
When did he marry Harriet Mischele?
Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you,

CALLAHAN
My family descends from Daniel O. CALLAHAN who lived on Franklin Street in
Elmira from about 1855-1865. Daniel then disappers (I can't find him anywhere,
dead or alive). His wife Mary MEAGHER CALLAHAN and her children John, Catherine,
and Julia CASSIN all continued to reside in the same home. John CALLAHAN was a
haberdasher on Water St. He married Margaret L. CALLIGAN and their children were
George, John, Mary Florence (a teacher at EFA and SHS), William, Raymond, and
Walter. They lived on Pleasant Street.
I'm having the most trouble finding out what happened to Daniel. His wife, Mary,
reportedly was born in Templemore, Tipperary, Ireland. I wish I could connect
Daniel somehow to Ireland. Luckily, Joyce keeps adding Elmira directories and
I'm narrowing down Daniel's date of death or disappearance.
Happy Easter!

INGERSON/JUDD/HARRIS
Hello,
I am searching for the parents and ancestors of Thankful Frances
Ingerson who married Nathan Mosier/Mosher 9 Jul (or Aug) 1861 in Lindley
Township, Steuben Co. NY. Nathan Mosier was killed in the Civil War. A
later marriage record lists her parents as D. Ingerson and Lucy Judd.
The 1850 census for Ridgebury Township, Bradford Co. PA shows Thankful
(age 7) and her two sisters, Hannah and Mary, living with Freeman
Harris, his wife, Lucy (age 38) and their two children, Sarah (2) and
Charles (3 months).
The 1850 for Bradford, Ridgebury Township shows a D. D. Ingerson (45)
and Lucy (40) with children Jane (21) and Samuel (10). It appears that
these are her parents, but have not been able to verify that.
In 1860, Thankful is 17 and still living with the Freeman Harris family
in Tioga Township, Tioga Co.
Notes from Thankful's family Bible:
Daniel P. Ingerson, born April 19, 1773
Nathan B. Ingerson, born February 29, 1800
D. B. Ingerson, died 1883
Any help with Thankful's ancestors will be greatly appreciated.

MOSIER/MOSHER
Hello,
I am searching for the parents of Nathan MOSIER/MOSHER who married
Thankful Frances Ingerson 9 Jul (Aug)1861 in Lindley Township, Steuben
Co. NY. They had two children: Charlotte, born 3 Aug 1862 and Thankful
Frances, born 12 Mar 1864.
Nathan MOSIER/MOSHER enlisted 12 Sep 1864 at Williamsport in Company K,
210 Regiment of PA infantry volunteers. He was killed in action 31 Mar
1865, Gravelly Run, Virginia.
I have his pension papers but they do not give any information on his
parents.
He was in Tioga, Tioga PA census in 1860. Also there was a Crandall and
Comfort Mosier living in the same area. Nathan was not with them so I
don't know if there is a connection or not.
Thank you for any help.

CARPENTER/HOWARD/LOSEY or LOCEYor LOWCY/BURLEY
Still researching my elusive ancestors who lived in Middlebury Twp, Tioga Co
1850:
Jedediah Carpenter b. circa 1802 married Sarah Burley Carpenter-allegedly
went to IL after 1850 but unknwn where- Sarah died we believe after 1840.
Need obit/marriage info for Jedediah and Sarah.
Jedediah Carpenter, father of above also lived in Middlebury Twp, Tioga Co
and was alive in 1850. Seeking info abt his family. These are direct lines to
Carpenters of Rehoboth, MA that arrived in 1638.
Alonzo Losey b. 1822 NY m. Maria or Mariah Carpenter b. 1826 PA and in 1850
is living in Middlebury Twp, Tioga Co with Jedediah Carpenter and his son
James b. 1828/29 PA and daughter, Rhoda b. 1836 PA. Allegedly went to IL, but
James returned and have found info on him and his family, but no mention of
other family members.
Silas Augustis Howard b. 1826/27 NY m. Elizabeth Ann Carpenter b. 1827/28 PA
in Penevang (?) c. 1848-these are my great-great grandparents. Silas served
in Civil War in MN under a Charles Hotchkiss who lived in Middlebury Twp,
Tioga Co--would love to have info abt him since he seems to have also been in
NY where it is said Silas was born, and they seemed to follow one another.
One good note: Almost 92 years to the date of her death and contrary to all
the published reports, Elizabeth Ann Carpenter Howard aka Rebecca, Ann B,
and/or Betsey was located living in 1910 in Spokane WA as an invalid with one
of her daughters.
Am also seeking information on Chauncey Howard b. circa 1797 NY m. Susan
Howard b. circa 1802 VT living in Middlebury Twp, Toga County with Chauncey
Jr. b. 1835 NY, Joseph b. 1840 NY, Ira b. 1841 NY and Jane Howard b. 1845 PA.
These may be the parents of Silas Howard and are enumerated in sequence with
my Howard and Locey and Carpenter family members, if that has any
significance.
Any and all help greatly appreciated.

SMITH - THOMPSON
I am trying to get any information that I can on Jesse Thompson who married my
great grandmother, Adelaide Schrader. I have plenty of information of the
Schraders, but nothing on Thompson.
They had one daughter Maud who married a William Charles Smith. He married
Maud in 1902. This was, I believe, his second marriage. He was born in the
Wilkes Barre area. His father was Robert H. Smith and his wife's name was
Addie ____ or Adiss _____.
They had two children
Evenlyn Smith (my mother) (b. July 21, 1904 - d. Oct 8, 1992)
and
Llewelyn Smith
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
