Mary Ann FOSTER ( 08 Oct 1847 - 07 Dec 1922) was married to Philander SMITH.
Family lore has the name ROSS connected to Mary Ann. It is said that she may have been the adopted child of Philander FOSTER.
In the Granville Center Cemetery I have found 2 graves:
ROSS, Lillis A. 22 Nov 1849 Wife of Durhan ROSS
FOSTER, Lillis A. 22 Nov 1849 Wife of Philander 27 yrs
Does anyone have any information on Lillis?

In reviewing the data for Granville Center Cemetery, Granville Center, Bradford County, PA, the recorder indicated that Ruth McIntire, Granville resident and historian has been caring for the cemetery and its records and that she has researched the families of those buried there. I would like to know how to get in touch with Ms. McIntire so that I may inquire regarding the family of Martin C. Wilcox who is buried there. I am assuming at this point that this is the same Martin C. Wilcox listed in the 1850 Granville Cemetery with wife Hester and parents and siblings.

Hi Joyce,
Paid a visit to your great web-site today.
My ancestor, John Stringer was one of the early settlers in Asylum. His son,
Benjamin Stringer appears on the 1800 and 1810 Federal Census in Wysox. I have
been unable to find any additional information or records on this family.
Could you please give me some direction?
John, I believe left early on, selling his land to a Mr. Westbrook. Benjamin
left sometime after the 1810 census, returning to Canada.
How would I find land records?
Benjamin was married and had a family.
I have just hit a brick wall and would very much appreciate any guidance.
Thanks so much.
Bev

I'm looking for information on Daniel KIRKENDALL who married Martha J. ELLIS. They had 4 children that I know of: Daniel Jr., Luther, Viola, and Fannie.
Supposedly Daniel was killed by a train in 1894. My Grandfather, Luther was 9 yrs old at the time. Fannie was born in Feb. 1894 in Windham Twp. so I'm assuming he was killed there.
I need a look up of Bradford Co. death records to see if Daniel's death is recorded.
Also looking for any information on Daniel KIRKENDALL or Martha J. ELLIS as I can't find either of them in their childhood years which would be after 1860.
Thank you so much for helping me.

I am looking for EBENEZER MOORE b about 1820 in Pennsylvania. He married Elizabeth Foster also b in Pennsylvania and in 1842 was living in Elimsport, Bradford Co. where one of their children (Elizabeth L Moore) was born.

Hi List,
I am transcribing 4 handwritten journals covering the period of 1869 -1880,
which were kept by Viall Allen BULLOCK, of Bradford County, PA. Occasionally
there are "symbols" which I believe are some form of shorthand. Additionally, I
have found several loose pages written in 1851-1852 that are almost all "symbols".
I would like to be able to transcribe these pages as well, as they appear to
contain information regarding funerals, etc.
Does anyone know what version of shorthand was most commonly used around the 1850's or any way to obtain help transcribing these? Thanks for any help you can offer.

BROWN - Seeking information on the Brown surname shortly after the Wyoming Massacre. My GGG Grandmother was Elizabeth Brown. She was born on 31 Oct 1806 and married George D. Stark in 1829 in Wyoming, PA. She died a few days after delivering her fourth child on 27 July 1836 and is buried in the Wyoming Cemetery in Wyoming, PA. Recognizing that the early settlers migrated frequently between Wyoming and Wyalusing, I am speculating that Elizabeth is a granddaughter of Thomas Brown and Patience Brockway. Two of Thomas' oldest children were killed in the Massacre.
Any help identifying Elizabeth's ancestors would be greatly appreciated. Gary Willis - glw40@aol.com

BABCOCK - Our family has established that there is a Beula Babcock (widow) in IN census. We believe Roland Babcock was her husband. My grandfather spoke of a place called "Babcock Hill" in PA. This place appears to be in Bradford Co., PA. Our family is firm with James (P?) Babcock born in 1823, thought to be the son of Roland Babcock. We've worked off and on, on Roland Babcock, when I and my son started some 15 years ago. Then I got my brother, Sidney Hugh Babcock, interested and he has picked it up. Now I am retired and have the time and have started on it again. I'm Vincent Duane Babcock Thank you for your obvious hard work on your WEB pages. babcock@doitnow.com (Vincent Babcock) March 18, 98

I have a Great Great Grandfather, Nelson B. Cobb born December 1852 in Pennsylvania.
I found a Census from 13 June 1870 (he was 17) listing him as a farmer in Wyalusing (Bradford County) PA. I haven't found anything else on him except that he moved to Arapahoe County Colorado and became a "cattle raiser." Do you have any records of him?
Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Actually I'm also looking for my great grandmother (Anita May Cobb, born in PA in 1885 - Nelson's daughter). Would you mind seeing if you could find her too?

Dear Joyce,
My name is Joseph B. Keagle, I am a teacher in the Corning Painted Post
School District and a life long resident of the Twin Tiers region. I am
writing to you to gain some personal information about the role my
family played in the Canton Pa. area. I am wondering how long did the
Keagle family live in the area? I am personally awaire that my family
had an interest in careers and music and that they had a music store in
the Canton area. I am wondering if you can shed any more light on this
topic and how does the Mennaqua lake property play a role in the more
recent family history? I will be eagerly waiting for information
because one of my academic passions is history and recently completed a
graduate course at Mansfield University on the Civil War.
A Sincere Thank You in Advance!
Sincerely,

I posted a message several years ago looking for Gustins from Bradford Co., PA. I did hear from several persons related to those Gustins, so thought I'd try posting again in hopes of hearing from others.
My ancestor, Eliphalet Gustin was born in Sussex Co., N.J. in 1766. He removed to Bradford Co., PA in 1791, settling at Luthers Mills. He died in 1860 at his farm in Luthers Mills. One of his sons, John H. Gustin married Fannie Smith Lane. One of their sons, Charles S. Gustin married Abigail Meade in1852. Charles and Abigail's children were: John H., Eli Ketchum (my grandfather born in 1855), Fannie L. (born 1858 and died in 1861), Sarah E., Henrietta and Marietta (twins), Charles W., Burton C., and Fannie Lamira (born in 1869). I know that my grandfather's siblings were married and had children. I'd like to locate some of those descendants. I know that some of them were in the Elmira and Binghamton, NY area. My grandfather, Eli K. moved to Astoria, Oregon and I think his sister Sarah E. moved to Portland, Oregon where I believe she married a Smith. If anyone has any info on descendants of these relatives, I would appreciate hearing from them.

I am searching for information regarding Nathan C. BALLARD, and his descendants. He is listed in the 1840 and 1850 Censuses for Granville Twp., Bradford Co., PA. His estimated date of birth would be 1785 by the 1850 Census, and in that same census he states that he was b. in VT. Is he the brother of Nathaniel, John, and others, and the same Nathan BALLARD who married Betsy DOBBINS, d/o William and (?) McLAIN DOBBINS (this marriage according to account by Heverly), and was to have moved west to Ohio? If so, when did he return to Bradford Co., and when did Betsy die? Where is Betsy buried, and what happened to their children?
Nathan C. BALLARD m. ABT. 1817 Melinda WHITE, daughter of Caleb and Chloe HAMILTON WHITE. Caleb is shown living with Nathan and Melinda in the 1840 Census. He is listed as 79 years old. There is also an elderly woman living w/Nathan and Melinda at that time. She is between the ages of 70-80 (possibly Chloe), plus three young people (2 males and 1 female).
Nathan and Melinda had at least three children: Emily "Malinda" BALLARD, b. abt. 1818, Ezra O. BALLARD, and another male child.
In the 1850 Census for Granville Twp., Nathan and Melinda are shown living "next door" to Emily Malinda and her family (Nathan Newell FINNEY). Emily Malinda is Nathan FINNEY'S second wife (his first being Polly PRENTICE). Nathan FINNEY had one daughter w/Polly PRENTICE, her name being Abigail (Abbe). Nathan FINNEY and Emily Malinda BALLARD had several children: Anson, Alfred, Allen McKean (my gg-grandfather), Olive (wh o m. a FOOTE, and had at least one daughter, Cora), Alvin, Hyland, and Apollis (possibly others).
Ezra O. BALLARD m. Lucy KINNEY/KEENEY. They later moved to (McKean Co.?), PA.
Nathan FINNEY d. in Lee, MA, abt. 1862. His burial place is unknown to me. Caleb WHITE, Chloe (HAMILTON) WHITE, Emily Malinda BALLARD (the headstone states Melena FINNEY), and Olive FINNEY (headstone Olive FOOTE - Mother) are buried in the Granville Centre Cemetery, Granville Twp., Bradford Co., PA.
Emily Malinda and her son, Hyland, spent some time in WI. I have found them listed in a census there (but I do not have that information in front of me right now).
I am interested in locating Nathan and Melinda WHITE BALLARD'S burial places and any other informatio n about them and their descendants that I can. I would like to know more about Nathan Newell FINNEY'S descendants (including his first daughter, Abbe), also.
My descendany from Nathan C. BALLARD is as follows:
(1) Nathan C. Ballard and Melinda White > (2) Emily Malinda Ballard and Nathan Newell Finney > (3) Allen McKean Phinney (note the change in the spelling of the surname) and Hannah "Jane" Clark > (4) Dayton Leslie Phinney and Evangeline "Eva" May Loomis > (5) Bernice Irene Phinney and Nels Daniel "Dan" Bergquist > (6) Daniel Allen Bergquist and Anita Sue Lyon > (7) Lynne Mechelle Bergquist (me) and Ralph E. Howell, Jr. > (8) Luke Travis Howell (my s on).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My name is Kathy Bower and I'm looking for any information on Elisha Cole. He was my Grandfather's Great-Uncle. When I was young,my Grandfather used to tell us about how when he was a young boy his Great -Uncle would tell how he fought at Gettysburg. Elisha fought in the 141st Penn. Infantry. Hello, Ms. Tice,
We may have corresponded by e-mail before.
My great-grandparents ‹ Oscar and Delia Griswold ‹ lived in LeRoy and then Canton. Oscar served in Co. C of the 132nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War. His brothers Austin, Daniel and Elliot served also ‹ Austin in the 106th Volunteer Infantry, and Daniel and Elliot (who died while in service) in the 10th New York Cavalry.
Oscar and Delia's son Merton, my grandfather, had been a friend of the Ballard family and more than once mentioned the composer, Pat Ballard ("Mr. Sandman"), whom I assume comes from the same Ballard family you mention on The Mount Pisgah Praying Band page.
Another son Herman, my great uncle, married a Blakeslee.
Have you come across any of these names in your research?
Thank you for your site.

Joyce,
I have just discovered today that my GGGrandfather was a gentleman named
Nathan Baxter. I went out on the Genforum and asked about him and someone
led me to your site.
I know that in 1850 he lived next to the farm of an Ezra Baxter who was married to Charity. I did find an 1840 Census at your site that leads me to believe he was there then.
Is there somewhere I can go to see if Ezra was the father of my Nathan? Since you seem to have done a wonderful job on your Tri-Counties Web Site, I thought I would start by asking you.
Sincerely,
Donna Baxter

Hi Joyce, My name is Karen Rupp and my mother was Gladys Elaine Potter who was born in Towanda on October 31, 1929. She attended a catholic school system there and graduated in the head of her class from the 8th grade there. I know she attended a catholic high school but I think it might have been here in Elmira but it could have been in Towanda. Her parents were Bernard and Augusta Potter who moved to Elmira sometime while my mother was a teen.My grandfather worked for the railroad, I think. I am working on a family tree for a school project for my daughter who is a senior at Hhds High School. My mother died in 1967 and my grandfather before I was born in 1958. I would guess it would have been in 1955 or so. My grandmother died in 1973. I think her maiden name was Smackhammer or Swackenhamel, something like that. I think she had a sister named Dottie. I know that my grandmother was my grandfather's second wife and that he had two children when they married. A daughter named Ann and a son named David. They had my mother Gladys and a son Phil together. I was just wondering if you could help me find out if my grandfather had brothers or sisters. Who their parents might have been or if there is any history on either family in your records. I checked your census records on this site from 1880 and didn't find anything.
Thank You for your help,

Dear Joyce,
I can't find my grandmother, Lottie Ward b 24 sept 1893 in Athens, PA.,
on the census. We found a Lottie Ward on the 1910 census being 17 living with
another family. Her parents were Helen Haynes Ward and James Warren Ward. She
lived in Waverly, Walker Hill, after her marriage. I don't know anything between
her birth and Walker Hill.
Got any ideas? Sure would appreciate the help.
I'm originally from Maine, NY near Binghamton. I had and still have family in the Waverly/Chemung area, but they can't remember either. I didn't leave NY until I was 24 so I'm still "a little"familiar with the area. Love you web page. I REALLY appreciated all your photos. Brought lots of memories of summers on grandpa's farm. Thanks for the memories.

Hi, at an auction today I bought a box of odds and ends. One of the things is a brass compass (working) inscribed on the top Ed Whalen, Towanda, PA. I was going to put it on Ebay for sale, but thought the family would probably like to have it back. Do you have any information about the Whalen family. This is probably a piece from WW1 Ir. WW2 and was made in France. I just traced down and returned a class ring from the Citadel in 1937 to the owners family, I think things should "go back home" if possible. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Seeking information on Willard C. GREEN and his wife Mary Ellen ELLSWORTH. Willard C. GREEN was born in Pennsylvania and purchased land in Wysox township, Bradford County in 1841. Willard died 14 Dec. 1864. Mary Ellen ELLSWORTH was the daughter of Oliver ELLSWORTH and Mary KEITH who resided in Orwell township, Bradford County.
By 1850 Willard and Mary Ellen GREEN were living in Luzerne County and 1860 had moved to Espy, Columbia County, PA. They had the following children: Lewis C; Miles W; Mary A (married Charles Banta); Edward C; Charles R; George K.; Laura Victoria (married William Penman) and Helen Althera (married Henry Banta). I believe some of the children were born in Bradford County.
Was Willard C. GREEN related to Willard GREEN of Luzerne County and Wysox township, Bradford County, who was a Revolutionary War Veteran?
Thank you Louise Belsby
I am looking for decendents of Daniel MILLER, born ~1886. I believe in Bradford County. Married Emma Schock ~1904 in Waverly and spent most of his adult life in the Sayre area. I have been told that he worked for the railroad and probably died before 1935.

Looking for any information on family (parents, siblings, etc.) of Alphonso C. STUART of Towanda. A.C. left Bradford County in 1816 for St. Clair County, Ill. He was killed in a sham duel in 1819 in Belleville, Ill. Wife's name was Rachel (I think) and he had two sons when he left Bradford County: William Henry and Alphonso Don Carlos.

husbands 4th great grandmother.
I am trying to find out if Elijah Dwight FOSTER's daughter Eleanor/Elinor FOSTER born in 1832 Town-Athens, County-Bradford, State-PA We found a source pointing us in the direction of this town. We are certain she was born in PA but can't find a birth record :(

Just wanted you to know the website is gorgeous - one of the best I've seen. Thanks so much for all your work.
I'm a Brink ancestor and have been looking for Laura Cogswell's parents - she was married to Ephraim Brink (b. 1797) and she died in Pike, Bradford County. With so many Cogswells around I'm kind of surprised I'm making no headway finding her roots. Is there somewhere I can turn for help with this? I wanted to check marriage records because I have an absolute date on their marriage (August 10, 1820), but I hear there are no marriage records made at that time.
Anyway, thank you for your help.
