ANDRUS, Elisha. Would like to hear from anyone knowing anything about Revolutionary War soldier, Elisha Andrus, who is buried in the Granville Center Cemetery, Granville, Bradford County, PA. His grave is marked only with a small metal plaque with his name on it provided by The Morse Funeral Home, Canton, PA. Would like to have his grave marked with a military stone, but do not know his dates of birth and death or the state from which he served in the war.

Hi Joyce,
I received your email and the family I am concerned about is the ELDRED,
EDWARD J. and Elizabeth. I have no idea where he was born or her, but I do know
they are buried in Cole Cemetery in Monroeton,Bradford County,Pa.These were my
ggggrandparents and they had a daughter named Mary "Nettie" Eldred who married
Britton Pittenger who in turn had my grandmother Coral Mae Pittenger. She then
married John Franklin Kiper. I would like to know if anyone knows what
Elizabeth's last name was and where they were from if possible? I know there was
a famous Edward J. Eldred who formed the Genesee Road by what is in your famous
people of Bradford County, but I don't know if these two are related.
Any help would be appreciated.

DECKER, Randolph
I am researching the families of COON, William James and SMITH, Lena May.
Minnie Adelia DECKER was married to Sylvester COON before 1895. She subsequently married Jesse Lee MCKEAN in 1901. I have their wedding photograph. I also have a photo of Cortland DECKER's blacksmith shop in Canton and a newspaper article of an interview with him and my grandfather William James COON done in Barclay when Cortland was 86. Any information on the DECKER family would be welcomed.

Alice says in multiple records that she was born in Athens, PA in 1853, but we know nothing else of her birth family. She was married in 1872 in Quincy, Adams, IL to a man from Brooklyn and later moved to St. Louis where she died. Does anyone know what churches were in the Athens area at that time that might have records? She would most likely been a Protestant.

Hi! You have a great website! I just completed a cemetery tour of my own in Bradford County with a cousin of mine who lives in Monroeton. I live in Florida now & came up just for genealogy & fun.
On one of the stones in the "Irish Cemetery" (my earliest Irish relative Ellen O'Halloran Meehan) it had: "equescat in pace" at the bottom of the stone. Have been trying to figure out the language... can you help? Latin or Irish?
Thanks - hope you get a chance to answer this - I'm sure you're
incredibly busy!
Peace- Annie Meehan

Some time back I sent you an email regarding your site, it really impressed me and I thought from your email back that you would be a person to contact and right now I have need of some help regarding several surnames from Bradford County, PA. The surnames are Harkness, Sample, Pratt, Jenks.
My ancestor Amos Harkness, born abt 1790 VT died 1869 in Huron Co. Ohio, son of William and Easter [Bridge] Harkness who are both buried in Old Harkness Cemetery, Bradford Co., PA. Amos Harkness left Bradford Co. PA moving to Fairfield Township, Huron Co. Ohio and married on 25 March 1819 in Fairfield Twp., Huron Co., OH Martha Sample, born 1801/1802 in PA died 7 Feb 1850 Huron Co. OH. We have been unable to find any data regarding where in PA or who her father was, I have included an article from a history book regarding her mother, Widow Sample as she is called in all records. My third cousin in Huron Co., has found a record of where David, her son sold land and listed his mother as Nancy Rush. We have the record of Nancy Sample marriage on 3 May 1821 Huron Co. OH to Jacob Rush, born PA. Then we really have no documentation after the land record. David SAMPLE sold land to Moses MOORE 20 March 1850 (Old Series) Vol # 23 Page # 552 sign by David Sample, Mother Nancy RUSH and his wife Susan [Henderson] Sample.
[I feel that Amos Harkness may have followed the Sample family to Ohio, a few years later a member of the Harkness family, Abner born 1788 VT died 1870 moved to Ohio and finally settled in Huron Co. OH. His 8th child was born 1837 in Huron Co. OH. Most of Abneršs fatheršs family went to Peoria Co. IL. That area of Ohio is like your area - Huron - Erie - Sandusky records are really mixed as the people went back and forth. An interesting document is the fact that three children of one family all born in the same house were all born in different counties, Huron, Erie, Sandusky]
Now to the Pratt and Jenks: Samuel Sample married Experience [Jenks] on 27 Dec 1829 in Huron Co. OH. We thought we had found Samuel and Experience in Mercer County, IL then yesterday my cousin sent me data from Mercer County, IL that states that Samuel Samplešs wife was Experience Pratt, this is from their sonšs death records recorded in Mercer County, IL . The only other JENKS listed in Huron Co. at that time is Oliver Jenks who married Susan Town on 4 June 1832. In the 1850 census for Huron Co. OH Oliver Jenks age 79 born RI and his wife Susan age 73 born MA are listed living with Hannah [Jenks] age 48 born PA and her husband George Kelley.age 63 born PA they were married 4 Nov 1837 in huron Co. OH. In the 1870 census of Mercer Co. IL Experience Sample is listed as 70 years old born CT. In the 1860 census Samuel Sample is listed as 59 born OH - 1870 census has him 56 born PA, mistake I think in age.
[I wonder if there could have been a divorce and Experience Pratt was first married to Oliver Jenks before she married Samuel Sample???

WIDOW ( Nancy ) SAMPLE
The First Settler a Woman
The first clearing in the township was made by a widow woman, of foreign
birth, name Widow Sample, and her family of nine children - John, Martha,
Betsey, James, William, Anna, Samuel, Nancy and David. They came from
Newark, Licking county, Ohio, in the year 1816, and settled on lot thirty -
six, in the third section. The widow was a woman of very remarkable
ability, and of strong constitution. The family was very poor, and Mrs.
Sample and her boys and girls were compelled to live in a manner which many
people would consider impossible. It is related, upon the best of
authority. that boys went bare-footed all of one winter, while they were
chopping timber and extending the clearing in which their rude cabin stood.
They heated large chips by the fire, and carrying them to the place where
they were intending to fell a tree, stood upon them until they grew cold,
and then heated them again and again, until their day's work was done. Day
after day they labored under this disadvantage, which less hardy people
would regard as insurmountable. The mother of these boys was their equal,
if not superior, in energy and spirit, and was ingenious as well. She out
reaped a man in the grain field in 1817, and clothed her family in cloth
which she wove from the silk of wild nettles. Mrs. Widow Sample married
Jacob Rush, who died soon there after. The mother removed to the west, and
lived to be nearly a hundred years old. Her daughter Martha SAMPLE, married
Amos Harkness.
Jane Harkness, one of the children of Amos and Martha (Sample) Harkness,
married John Parrott, of Ripley Twp, OH. She is the only one of the
descendants of the Sample family who lived in the vicinity.
John married before they came to Huron Co. 1820 census Huron Co. Ohio - John Sample Head of Household male 2 under 10 / male 1-10-16 / 2 - 16-26 female 2 under 10 / 1 - 16-26 / 1 - 26-45 [I would say his brothers and sisters are living with him]
David married Susan Henderson 22 Dec 1833 1840 Census Huron Co. Ohio - David Sample Head of Household male 1 under 5 / 1 -5 under 10 / 1 - 10 under 15 / 1 - 15 under 20 / 1 40 under 50 female 2 under 5 / 1 - 5 under 10 / 2 - 10 under 15 / 1 - 30 under 40 [I would say as with John in 1820 members of the family are living with him]
Martha - married Amos harkness - 25 Mar 1819
Betsey #1 marriage John Dewitt - 22 Aug 1822
Samuel - married Experience Jenks 27 Dec 1829
James or William or Anna or Nancy - no marriage record in Huron Co a [Rebbeca - married Halsey Clark 18 Aug 1830] could this be Anna or Nancy. Until Linda found a land record I thought there could have been a mistake and the daughter, Nancy had married Jacob Rush.
This was all written a couple of months ago. I had a small stroke and have not been doing much with my genealogy. today i was checking my draft file and realized I never finished this email and sent it to you. Hope you might with your knowledge of that area be able to help me.

Where precisely was (is) BOLAND Corners? Where is (was) IRISH HILL? My father appears in the 1920 CENSUS as living with William and Julia BOLAND. A number of other BOLANDS appear on that page. My father was Patrick GODWIN. He was 9 years old and listed as "Homeboy".
Hi,
The Tri-Counties site said to ask you about this portion of the site, so
here I am. :)
I believe my ancestor is Oliver Nelson, who is mentioned on the site, as one of the first settlers in Bradford County, PA. Several times, the histories mention that the early settlers were mostly neighbors from New England, and in one place, it mentions that Jeremiah Taylor (another early settler), was originally from Berkshire, Massachusetts. Do you happen to know if, then, the rest of the settlers were also from Berkshire, Massachusetts?
Thanks very much for your time,

In the 1920 Census, roll625_1541, page 7B, ED 51, image 1032 which I found on through my Ancestry.com subscription, I found living with them a PATRICK GODWIN, age 9, a "homeboy" instead of son. The number of the Boland families were 184 and 185 instead of street address. 1. Where precisely would this have been in the Warren Township? 2. What would "homeboy" have meant? 3. The 184 and 185 Bolands were listed as Will(iam?) and Julia, 42 and 44. Patrick H and Ellen Boland, 70 and 63, were 185 in Census. Patrick was from Ireland
Those are my questions, and here is the context, if it may prove helpful. I believe that PATRICK GODWIN was my father whom I have been looking a long time for in PA. I had thought to find reference to him in Lackawanna County since he continually claimed to have been born there, and according to his marriage application of Mary Bernice Sweeney and Patrick Godwin in 1929 filed in Bradford County his parents were Patrick Godwin and Anna Kelly of Scranton.
Once when I was around nine years old, he took us to the countryside in PA and said that he was brought up on a farm. My mother said his mother Anna had gotten sick and the family was divided up. He showed us a stone cellar foundation to the house in which the family had lived. Next the showed us a small one room school along the side of the road. I do not believe it was too far away. In it was an old foot pedal organ. It appeared to have been abandoned. It was not large.
The time of our visit was around 1945. The roads were dirt roads. We drove a few miles and we were shown (but did not visit) a farm where he said he had lived as a child. My older brother claims they were German, but the rest of us do not remember that.
An interesting story was that he was so far from the rest of the students that he was paid to walk to school by the school district. He saved up the money and when older purchased a Ford car.
My parents were married in Towanda,PA in 1929. My mother , Mary Bernice Sweeney, lived there. She was a teacher in Bradford County, and she met Patrick near a school where she taught at the baseball diamond.
My great-grandfather James Godwin was married to an Anna Holleran and came to Scranton in 1878 according to his naturalization papers. He had died in 1893 at the age of 36.
My grandfather was Patrick Joseph Godwin married to Anna Kelly. Anna died in 1923 and Patrick Joseph in 1932--both in Scranton. I have traced all the records--death certificates, obits in newspapers, cemetery records, naturalization, city directories.
In the 1910 Census as well as the obit for Anna in 1923, only one child is listed --Joseph Godwin. However, in the 1932 obit of Patrick Joseph Godwin, my grandfather, Joseph is listed along with a John, William, Mary, and my father Patrick. William died in Scranton in 1960 (I have the death certificate and obit). Mary married an Edward Brogan and disappeared. Joseph and John cannot be found in city directories or in any death certificates in multiple year searches though PA Vital Records.
The Godwins, my parents, finally lived in Elmira, NY.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to give me.
Edward B. Godwin

Hello Joyce,
I have been searching thru the internet looking for any relatives in the Doty
family. My
grandfather was William A. Doty (wife Catherine Shortman). They were from PA and

Found some graves in Waverly, PA.
Any info you have would be appreciated. Phyllis Doty Smith
Joyce:
I have a huge dilemma. I own the book, History of Waverly by Charles
Albertson. In it Lydia Seeley is shown to have married William Ellis. It shows
her father as Samuel Seeley of Orange County. I looked on your website and
found in the Families of Wells Township, Bradford County, PA Samuel Seeley,
b. 2/2/1754 in Orange County NY and later removed to the Seeley Creek Valley in
Chemung County. It shows he was buried at the Fitzsimmons Cemetery. It also
shows he had 11 children, one of whom was listed as daughter, b. 1785-90 (1800
census), which I could presume was Lydia.
Here's the problem. In the Genealogical and Family History of Central New York, it shows William Ellis married Lydia Seeley but it shows her father as Israel Seeley of Orange County. Also on a Seeley family website it shows Lydia as being the daughter of Israel Seeley, but different birth and death dates?!?!?
I was thinking since William's father was Israel, maybe that was a misprint? Is there anyone who can help me find Lydia's true parents?
Thank You

I was raised in Gillett in the 1950's and 1960's and my father and his siblings were also. I am looking for a copy of the Gillett sesquecentennial booklet that was printed. I had a copy when they were first printed, obtaining my copy from Mrs. Marian Roberts, but have lost it during my moving to Virginia. I understand that Marian had died, and I have no idea who would be responsible for the booklet now. My query. Jackson LEWIS - married Harriet Elizabeth MANSFIELD Paine, a widow. They had lived in Neosho, Kansas until Harriet was widowed in 1861 and "..soon after marrying Jackson Lewis, who had been a neighbor in Kansas and very kind and serviceable to her after my brother's death. This seemed an excellent arrangement, for Lewis appeared the embodiment of good nature, fond of Harriet and of her children; he had a farm and a mill in Merryall, Bradford, Pa. and took them all to that home."
- This from my greatgrandfather's (Charles PAINE) memoirs. Harriet was my ggf's sister-in-law having married his brother, George Porter PAINE. At that time she had two very young sons, Charles Francis PAINE b. Jun 16, 1858 and George Porter PAINE b. Oct 8, 1860.
I am trying to find out what happened to the children and also to Harriet. Two people of the same name turned up, as adults in Elkhart Indiana by 1882. Are they the same ones?
Is Merryall a place or maybe the name of a farm? I understand there is a cemetery of that name with Jackson's Revolutionary War Patriot grandfather, Thomas, buried in it.
Thanks for any help.

Joyce,
Great site! Thanks for your efforts.
My ancestors populated Vawter, Litchfield, Athens and surrounding areas in
Bradford County PA. Now, thanks to your site I've found a brother of my Third
GGrandfather which has previously been the end of the line for my paternal line.
Ira Johnston, b 13FEB1810 in Danby, Tompkins Cnty, NY, evidently moved to
Charleston Twsp in Tioga County from Danby with his wife, Elizabeth Griffin
(b.11 APR 1814 Danby NY). I'm hoping to find some descendants of Ira that will
have some knowledge of Ira's ancestors.
Ira's brother Albert D. Johnston died 11 JUL 1833 by lightening strike, in Danby NY leaving a wife, Beattie and six children, the oldest was my second GGRandfather Geo. W, Johnston, who eventually moved his family to Litchfield, PA along with his brother Charles G. Johnston. Brothers Geo. W. and Chas. G. married Taylor sisters from Tioga County New York. George married Sarah and Charles married Mary Elizabeth.
Your site has also been responsible for bringing me in contact with two other Johnston family researchers, Beth Johnston and Lu and Bob Metzler, who are cousins through Harvey Johnston, descended from Rev Wm Johnston in NY. In one evening I have been able to overcome research doldrums that have lasted for three years.
Thanks again for your wonderful efforts.

Hi Joyce, I have a woman's skirt that must have belonged to my ggrandmother from Towanda, Mary Angle Stedge 1849-1920. It is made of a material with the Towanda Daily Review front pages, dated DEC 18 - 22 1889 printed on it. It is an interesting skirt.
I wondered if you had ever seen one or knew anything about the history of this. any insight would be nice.

Dear Ms. Tice-- thank you so very much for the incredible website. I have never submitted a question to a website and I will try to submit a question and answer. But -- and I know you are very busy and don't have time to answer individual questions-- but I will ask you directly anyway. Could you tell me where I should be looking for the following information. I am from Eagles Mere, Pa. originally and have many relatives in the Tri-County area who could track documents down in libraries or courthouses if that would be useful.
Here's my situation. My parents and my brother and I are going to Ireland on Sept. 12th for a short trip. We would like to go to the village where my great, great grandfather and great, great grandmother were from. We have lots of info about what happened and how the family evolved after they got to Bradford County. We know they were both from the County of Limerick but we don't have specific towns in Limerick . Do you have any idea how we might track that information down. This is the information that was provided to to me from what was referred to as a book entitled "History of Bradford County." (I don't have the book just a typed page that said the information was from it --maybe if we looked up the book in the library it might give us more information.) Great, Great grandfather was Cornelius Fitzgerald--farmer of Terry Township, P.O. Marshview, Born County Limerick, Ireland 3-4-1804-- was a son of John Fitzgerald, a farmer. Cornelius was the eldest of 13 children and came here ( US or Bradford County) in 1835. In 1837 he married my Great Great grandmother Margaret Henchey, a native of Limerick.
What would be the best way to identify the specific towns they were from-- something in Bradford County or should I just try data and organizations from Ireland-- and do you have any recommendations on which ones I should use.
Thank you so very, very much. This is an incredible work you have produced. My name is Susanne Lee, relatives all over these counties and raised in Eagles Mere in Sullivan County, Penna. Now live in Rockville, Md. at 12900 Circle Drive. Phone no. is 301-738-7987 and e-mail is lee.susanne@epa.gov. Thanks again.

Hello,
Hoping someone has some information on a MOSIER that married ELIZA ANN
WANDELL. Eliza is the d/o BILLINGS and MARTHA PRINCE WANDELL. She was born in
Sheshequin, Brad. Co. Pa. Eliza is listed as living with her parents in the 1880
census of Sheshequin. Her last name is given as Mosier, so we can only presume
she married a Mosier. If anyone has any information on this line, would love to
hear from you , this is one of my brick walls. Would be great if I could break
through it.

Dear Joyce, What a wonderful discovery you produce for faraway, lost ancestors to find. We just recently lost our Mother and closed another chapter in the Hurlbut-Boice line. So here we are finally visualizing an area we knew of but had never seen. Martin Hurlbut(Ruth Califf) setteled in East Smithfiel soon after 1814. His son Cyrus(Mary A. Terry) was born there in 1824. My sister, Eleanor Siros Gist, and my brother, Ernst A. Siros, recently visited East Smithfield and stopped ,by chance, and with the aid of old deed info on the property that once belonged to my great grandfather . Possibly with more time, they could have found the home of my great-great grandfather. We had heard of a West coast relative who visited the Hurlbut homestead there. Would you know if such a place exists? I can't find any matches on inet for my family. Deeds show Cyrus there for sure... as one recent homeowner was surprised to find out. They were very kind and friendly to my brother and sister. Unfortunately, they couldn't stay long enough to explore the land and learn more due to flights already scheduled. I'm sure my Mom in heaven watched with interest and pleasure. I would love to here from you, but realize you are an immensly busy person. Had Mom' s eyesight not begun to be such a problem and we had know of your site, she would have seen all the barns and farms she and dad dreamed about and she wanted to paint. She was quite an artistic and creative person as well as musically gifted. Her foundation was a strong sense on inherited faith and family. Many people credited her with being there inspiration for their sucess in respective fields. So I, my family and all the grandchildren and greatgrandchildren thank you for being out there and bring us so close to a piece of the puzzle at last. When you can, anything you can do to steer me toward solving why we can't find our family listed any where when we know they were there and the graves are there would help. Our critical need now is to find the parents of Martin Hurlurt. Thanks for being patient with this "Texas" short note.

Hello to all Bradford County PA researchers,
A week ago, I received 75-100 pages of Eli Conklin's Civil War Pension papers.
Yes, I read them all!
Eli Conklin was born in Canton, Bradford, PA on 18 Aug 1837. He served with Co. C, 107th Regt. of PA and was an infantry volunteer. He was wounded by an exploding shell and also he was captured by the enemy.
He married Nancy O. Gibbs of Overton, in 1866. They had several children including Orville born in 1890.
Eli Conklin died in Dushore, Sullivan County, PA in 1902. His wife continued to receive a pension until her death in 1925.
1. Who are Eli Conklin's parents?
2. Where can I send for his enlistment papers?
In his pension papers, Angeline Rinebold Haverly stated that Eli Conklin had lived with Reuben Rinebold (her brother) since he was three years old. Reuben Rinebold was married to Catherine Heverly. Their son, Addison Rinebold also made a statement. Also there is a statement by Clemet Heverly.
Some where on Joyce Tice's site, I read that Eli Conklin had managed the original Heverly family homestead in Overton, for a period of ten years or more. Unfortunately I didn't document the statement. Can anyone help?
I am working on a premise of who I think are Eli's parents. I would love to hear from anyone who has info on Eli.
Thanks.

I am trying to locate information about Mehetible VANCAMP who married James Dewey Jr. c. 1823. She was born about 1805. They lived in Ridgebury, Bradford Co PA. I know her descendents, but need to know her parents. Also, information on Patience VANCAMP who married James Dewey Sr about 1820. Mr. Dewey was her second husband because she had a daughter names Marian VanCamp. Patience was probably born about 1776. They also live in Ridgebury, Bradford Co, PA. Again, I am familiar with James Dewy's line -- just need to know info about these Vancamps.

Hi Joyce,
I am looking in the Tri-county area and also NY for the MEADE family.
I actually go back to Sayre, Bradford County, PA to a George Meade b. in New York, who married Sarah Amos Lentz. George was born in 1843 and in NY. That is all I know. My guess is I am probably looking at one of the counties in NY that borders PA.
This family was also know to be from the WilkeBarre area.
If you can point me in the right direction as to where I might find George's parents, that would be great. His son, was named Robert Asa Meade b. 1869 and there is an Asa who may have been his brother born in 1840. I strongly think that he and George could have been brothers. George also had a son named Alfred b. in 1879. So two sons, Robert Asa and Alfred, and a brother named Asa.
I have an old grave stone picture with the name Mary E. Meade 1864 to 1926 on it. It says wife of Ira B. Doty. Not sure of the relationship.
As you can see I don't have much to go on except I know they were from this region. Any help would be appreciated.

The Old Clark Homestead, which is described as being 'at or just below Academy Corners, Pa' in Deerfield Township, where Eleazer Clark lived with his first wife Abigail Armstrong and 2nd wife Rosamond Salisbury (5 children from each marriage) :
Can anyone tell me EXACTLY where the location of the Homestead was ? And does anyone know what is on that site today ?
Thanks for any info!

Hi Joyce. My great grandfather was Charles Issac Gardner, about whom I know very little. I found a marriage license (1876) in Mead County, KY that had his age as 26, so he was born abt 1850. I know that he was dead by 1900 because I found info on his widow, but I don't know where he died.
Working backwards, I found nothing in Mead County, KY about a Gardner family, but did find a Gardner family in a nearby county (Henderson County, KY) in the 1860 census with the father being Samuel and having a child named Charles born in 1850. That census said Samuel was 45, so he would have been born abt 1815. It shows his wife as Eliza, age 35, so she was born about 1825. I also found this family in the Henderson, KY 1850 census, but not before. From the ages of their children, I guessed that samuel and Eliza were married about 1846 to 1848. The census says Samuel was born in PA.
I searched PA and found a marriage record of a Samuel Gardner and Eliza Ann Buckams being married in 1847 in Windham, Bradford County, PA. That record says she was born in 1827 and was the child of E. L. Buckums and Mary Ann. (The KY census says she is from KY, so I assume she was not from your area). However, I am assuming that this couple married near his family, so there should be a Gardner family with a child named Samuel that was born about abt 1815. Also, another tidbit is that the KY census says Samuel is a "tin plate worker", so it is probable that his father or family was in that trade.
The KY family (Samuel and Eliza) that showed up in 1850 and 1860 in Henderson County, KY census did not show up in the 1870 census, so the Civil War undoubtedly caused them to move. I can't find them anywhere. They might have gone back to your area. However, I have not found anything else on Samuel or his family. Samuel and Eliza had 4 other children (other than my Charles Issac): William J. b. abt 1846; Samuel b. abt 1848; David b. abt 1853; and John b. abt 1856.
If you know of anyone from your area that has worked on the Gardner line. pls fwd this msg to them or let me know how to contact them. I will appreciate any ideas you might have. Thanks for your help.

I am searching for information on Wait RANDALL and his son, Amos, and their
families. I have located Wait in the 1840 and 1850 Albany, Bradford, PA

location. Amos died in 1899 and had at least two wives while living in Bradford
County. He and his first wife, Amanda, are both buried in the Laddsburg

Joyce, I have enjoyed looking through your site for several years for my Thurston relatives. Now its time to hunt through the Spalding connection. My great, great, grandmother Julia Ann (Spalding) Thurston, married Curtis Thurston (Presbyterian minister), anyway back to Julia Ann, her father John Spalding(third child by Eunice, born 22 Oct 1773 - ?) married Elizabeth Prentice in 1800. He was third son of Joseph Spalding ( born 7 Jun 1745 Plainfield Conn died 31 Aug 1832 at his daughter Rachel Snell's home, buried in the old cemetery at Athens Pa. by the side of his 2nd wife Anna Margaret Snell Spalding. His first wife Eunice Shepard Spalding is buried in Sheshequin Pa). Next, Joseph Spalding was a Revolutionary soldier and served as a sergeant in Capt James Gordon's Company of Col Douglas' Connecticut Regiment, 1776. The reason I am sending all of this to you is I have no proof, just family notes handed down, but Joseph is listed in Vol 1 page 137 of Heverly's book, but living in Texas I have not seen what is listed in the book. I would be happy to help serve as a source for my ancestors, at least the ones I know about. Sid Thurston
Sheila,
There is a Washington Landrus listed in Heverly's "Pioneer and Patriot Families
of Bradford Co., PA". Not much but says he married Lucinda Granger dau of Roderick
Granger and Almeda Dunlap. Roderick lived in North Towanda, Bradford Co. PA.
pg 91
Other Landrus listed in index: Cynthia, Lemuel, Lucy, Mercy, Phoebe, Samuel.
There is also an article on Washington in the "Genealogy of Northern Pa" Vol. 2 page 555. Says he owned a farm at Maple Hill (poss. Blossburg) or Tioga Co. PA and later moved to Michigan. They do not know the father of this Washington. Says he is the first member of this family that they have any definite info on. He was born in the USA of French parents. His first son was born in 1839.
This set of Northern PA is quite old. Published I think in 1913 by Lewis Historical Publishing Co NY.
If I come across his parents I will let you know.
Hope this helps some.

Do you have any idea where I might find information on Sylvia's birth?

Dear Joyce, I love your site. Most informative and helpful. I am researching Orrin Pratt b. 1812, PA, son of David Pratt Jr and Millicent Osborn. Can you recommend a genealogically inclined family member who would be anxious to share information? I have already met Barbara Hill through your site as she descends from the sister of Orrin's wife, Susan Chesley. It has been a wonderful contact. Barbara is a very thorough researcher with a considerable bank of knowledge. And we met on your page!. Unfortunately she is not conversant in the Pratt/Rockwell line. What one gleans from the internet is not always helpful or true.
I'd love to find someone who can help me prove the line with old family papers. Or even just wants to know about a lesser acknowledged member of the family.
Thanks in advance. Anne DuVigneaud
