We have been researching our LEFEBVRE and THALL ancestors and recently ran across an entry in a history book that says:
This includes two daughters of Caroline Lefebvre Thall. It says: The first vocation to the Sisterhoods from the parish is Miss Mary Thall. She is the first postulant received by the Sister of the Holy Child in America (Towanda). In religion, her name was Sister Mary Joseph. She made her vows in 1864 - Died in 1893. Sister Mary Joseph's sister, Anna Thall, became a Franciscan, Sister Mary Anacleta. She entered the Convent at St. Mary's Hospital, Philadelphia, in 1877 - was professed August 12, 1879. She died in Tacoma, Washington, February 3, 1928."
I am wondering if anyone knows of this sisterhood and where I would write to locate information on Miss Mary Thall's, which sometimes will detail valuable info. on her parents.
Thanks-Tom Gerber

Mike in the early to mid 70's when he attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
At the time he told me he was from the Towanda area. If anyone can
give me an address to reach him or any information on his where abouts,
I would be very happy. I beleive him to have a sister and I believe
he told me one or both parents were blind. Mike would be late 40's in age.
Any information would be much appreciated.

MINNEMEYER, MINAMYER, MINNAMEIER, MENNEMEIER, etc...
All seem to be connected, arrived from Alsace-Lorraine which was on
the borders of France and Germany. In any kind of border dispute
one or the other would "take over" Alsace-Lorraine. If you were an
unmarried female, (during census) living under the head of household (Minnemeyer)
you ended up with a different ending to the original Minnemeyer name.
Can anyone find variation on this spelling in their histories???
I have three Johns in one family... I am wondering if maybe they named

Hi Joyce! I've been told to look up this website and it is beautiful. You have really done a nice job. We got to this site because I'm researching the Thompson family and we are intertwined with the Cummings family.
Although some of the names are familiar, I can't decide if it's the same family or not. Do you happen to know if there was a John Alexander Thompson? My gr-gr-grandfather's name was John Alexander Thompson and he was born in NY abt. 1815. He married a lady named Mary Cummings, the daughter of Alexander Cummings and his wife, Margaret (which we just found out from a Bible that her maiden name was also Thompson). They were all from Bradford Co., PA. Alexander Cummings fought in the war of 1812 and was given bounty land. After the war he first lived in Steuban Co., NY and then Bradford Co., PA. From there they moved to Sandusky, Ohio area - John Alexander Thompson and Alexander Thompson and his family.
Anyway, the only name we have connected to John Alexander Thompson is the Cummings and don't know his ancestors. Since you keep mentioning NY in your articles and it was close by - we're wondering if this is the same family of John Thompson that we need to find.
So, I guess the question is - are there any John Thompson's that lived there in Bradford Co., but moved to Ohio in the early 1830's or 40's?
I know the stories that you have entered are really nice and Bradford Co. must've been (and still is) very nice. Makes me wonder why they migrated to Ohio! But Sandusky is nice too. We just took a vacation up there last week to try to find any info, graves, etc. We live in Cincinnati, Ohio.
As far as the Cummings go - there was an Alexander, John and a Fanny. I don't have my records with me right now, but does any of this sound familiar to you?
This is my work address, so if you write back could you please use my home: respeigle@aol.com? Thanks for your time and trouble. Especially for the wonderful website. What a fantastic job!
Sharon (Thompson) Speigle
Joyce,
Please get me started on My Great Grandmother. All
I can find is her in the 1910 Bradford County Census, and her SSDI information
from Endicott, NY. All the follow-ups that I have done have led to dead
ends. I've been working on this for two months now. I can't find her family
at least showing her name anywhere. Her name was Louise (Jackson) Harbst.
I can trace the Harbst family to Germany and Back, to the 1200's. I can't
get a handle on the Jackson family. Could they have been American Indian
and not listed in the census's?
Please find me a place to start, PLEASE!
THANKS, WALT KOZECKE

Earl Nichols, Occupation: farmer, married Ursula Nichols. They had
4 children:
Marie L: (died 1/25/1857)...my great-grandmother
Linnie Nichols
Cullen F. Nichols (1824-1902) (Civil War, Sergeant)
Adalinda
Marie L. was born in Burlington, PA. She is buried in Mountain Lake, PA. In 1851 in Burlington, she married James Wright Spencer, son of Lyman Spencer and Esther Brownell.
They had one child (my grandmother) born in Mountain Lake, Clara Adelaide (5/3/1856-1912). Clara died in Oakland, California 3/22/1912. On 8/18/1894 she married Gustav Wilhelm Krenkel, son of August Philemon Krenkel and Ernestine Moldenhauer from Lobsens, Prussia.
They had one son in Sacramento, California, my father, Harry Nichols Krenkel. (1895-1977).
I have two letters. One written by my grandmother (Clara)
to her father (James W. Spencer) while he was in Michigan (1870).
And a letter written by him while in Michigan (1868). I also have
an autograph book, 1880. (names like Mary Blaksley, The grandfather had
a title company in Michigan, and was a Republican Rep in the Michigan Legislature
(1887-8). He was also one of the delegates ot the first convention in Pennsylvania
forming the now REpublic Party in 1854. He moved to California, and his
daughter followed him (her mother had died a year after giving birth
to her and her father had remarried).
I also have old photos.
I have a hair book of Maria (the great-grandmother). She died in 1857, so this hair book is "old". The book is from Burlington, PA. It has hair samples of Nichols, Clark, Wheeler, Reeves, Welch, Selleck, Dodd (dated 1850), Culbur, Lane, Spencer, Ellis, Waters, Knapp, Warrinerl (I think), Wright, Curtis, Simpson, Lyon, Mackeberg (I think), Sorter, Baker, Peck, Ashcraft, Allen, Haight, Ross, and others. I also have a poem she wrote.
Don't know if any of this interests anyone, but.....
Dr. H. Noel Krenkel
Berkeley, California
P.S. I'm curious if there is other information about Marie Nichols
and
her ancestors, or of the Spencers while they were in Bradford County.
My grandfather was William M. Field. According to his tombstone he was born in 1893. He died in 1945. He is buried at Tioga Point Cemetery in Athens, Bradford Co. PA. He was a Conductor for the New York Central RailRoad. He was married to Hazel V. Loomis. They lived at 85 Pitney Street, South Waverly, Bradford Co., PA.
I have written to Bradford County and come up empty handed. When I was a kid, my grandmother talked about Tioga (town in Tioga County), Columbia Crossroads (town in Bradford County near Tioga County line), and Chemung (town in New York just to North of Tioga County, PA.) in terms related to having family there but I don't know any other details. Unfortunately my mother and all her siblings have passed away and left no written record.
If could give me any assistance on where to get more information
I would appreciate it very much. I live in California and don't have
good reference sources in New
York and Pennsylvania. Thank you for any help you can give.

I'm trying to help my dad find out about his grandfather, Daniel Edward Mullaly & his wife, Nora M. I found them both here on the "Epiphany Catholic Cemetery" records but have not had any luck tracing them back to Ireland.
Info I have: Daniel Edward Mullaly 1867 - Apr. 6, 1939 Brooklyn,
NY; birthplace Cork Ireland; worked on the railroad in PA/NY area.
Nora M. Mullaly - 1869 - 1957
I've tried all the logical places but there is so much we don't know. It's hard to get started. Daniel has been very difficult. I found (3) Nora Mullaly coming through Ellis Island. None match exactly her birth year. All I have is the year of her birth & death. Any help you can give me I would appreciate. Thanks! By the way, this is an awesome job you've done. I believe I have been bitten by the genealogy bug!

I have been tracing my husband's family tree for a number of years and have been up in your area many times. I was just told about your Tri County line this week. I have found some connections but will have to go further. I am very interested in finding any relatives of Gabriel Davis who was married to Harriett Emily Ladd daughter of Moses Ladd they had two sons Emmett Davis and Ashley Davis. Emmett married Emma Schrader in New Albany. I have a good amount of Ladds, Schrader, Browns etc. I have copied a few names from Laddsburg Cemetery which were not on your list. Hope to hear from you. Searching as everyone else is. Midgedavis @ AOL.com >>
Hi Joyce,
I have been searching for about 19 years for info
on my Great Grandfather, who lived in the Camptown / Spring Hill area.
As far as I know he was born about 1847??
and his name is either JOHN MYRON or JOHN MAHLON HOOVER. All I know
for sure is that he was called "MILES" and supposedly died at the Bradford
Co. Manor in Burlington and is buried at the Camptown Cemetery. He
also married a Phoebe Wells, dau. of Jacob Wells. They had at least
1 son, RAPHAEL F. (F. RAPHAEL) I have seen it written both ways.
RAPHAEL was born in 1867 in Herrick. (I think.)
I know that there is a RATHAEL HOOVER buried at
Camptown Cem. and that there is a JOHN MYRON HOOVER buried in the plot
owned by RATHAEL. However, I have not been able to find obits on
either man. RATHAEL died about 1901 - 1903. Death record is
at the Towanda Courthouse.
Any help that you could give me on these 2 men would
be very greatly appreciated. It is tough when you can't straighten
out a persons name, but with my G Grandfather going by possibly a nickname
for most of his life, I can't seem to find him anywhere except on the 1880
and 1910 census for Bradford Co. (Tuscarora Twp. - Spring Hill).
In 1880 he is listed as 23 years old with a son 11 years old. In
1910 he is listed as 63, with a grandson, 16. How does a person age
almost 40 years in a 30 year period????? Also at the age of 23 in
1880 it makes him about 12 years old at the time of his son's birth.
Living in Wyoming Co. and not having a car to get
around it has been hard for me to get any info about this. As I say,
any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you have any further questions about these two
men, I have it posted on my website. You can find it at ttp://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~thstiger/HOOVER.htm
Thanks for any help you can give me. Elizabeth L.

I am seeking the death and burial of my GGgrandfather, John FERRITER.
His family appears in the Blossburg, Bradford Cty, PA census with the surname
misspelled as Fariton. His wife was Honora Fitzgerald and both were from
Ireland. He was a miner. One daughter, Mary, married Randolph Bloss who
was the son of the man who est. Blossburg. Catherine married Edward Mitchell.
James married Ann McDonnell of Chemung Cty and others married later in
LaSalle Cty, IL My GGgrandfather has never been found. Supposedly died
in 1858-1868 in Bradford Cty, but is not listed in any cemetery I can find.
Family lore says he fought in the Civil War and lost a finger
carrying the flag - There is a John Feriter of PA that enlisted in
Chemung Cty that gave an age of 45.
Another Ferriter family is that of Nicholas and Mary Ann Sullivan Ferriter.
They are in the 1880 census for Barclay, Bradford Cty but Nicholas is not
there though still alive at that time. Mary is shown as head of family.
Undoubtedly cousins of my GGgrandfather and also from Cty Kerry, Ireland.
