Am researching the CURE/Cuir/Cuer, JONES, DANN, and HARRINGTON links of Tri-County area and also Luzerne co. PA prior to 1850. Home email address is: samvinceus@yahoo.com John CURE married Betsey JONES in/near Binghampton, Broome Co., moved to Luzerne Co., PA c. 1810. He was born in NY, son of William Cure.
The county of interest is Bradford, specifically Canton Twp. By the way, your site is excellent! Are you familiar with migration patterns from Chenango co., NY into Bradford co., PA? I have several lines through the area and can't figure out what prompted people into the area.
Happy New Year! Summer

PAUL FURMAN, born March 16, 1765 at Newtown, N.Y., died abt 1851, presumably in Columbia Twp. (His family later moved to Ward Twp., Tioga Co., in the 1860's). My wife, born Donna Rae Peterson, is a great granddaughter of Howard Gustin Furman, a son of Alfred (Alford) Furman and Elizabeth Jane Gustin. Does anyone know where PAUL is buried? Also, any information on PAUL's four wives, their families, ancestors, and descendants would be appreciated.
I would also be willing to share info on my wife's branch of the Furman tree.
This is a super website. Thanks to Joyce for all her ongoing work.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am researching my family history and am interested in learning the MAIDEN
name of his wife Helen of my paternal uncle, William Jerome Kelly
(1897-1967). William J. Kelly was a native of Forks Township, Sullivan
County, Pennsylvania. His wife Helen was a native of Bradford County from
near Towanda. They lived in Rochester, New York and moved to California in
the late 1940s where they lived in Ojai, Ventura, and Oxnard. My Aunt Helen
died in Oxnard, California in 1975.
Thank you for your consideration.

I am researching my Jonathan ALLEN family of Smithfield and Ridgebury Twp. Jonathan came with father Deacon David Allen from Halifax, Windam Co. VT in 1818. I found David's burial site on the Asa Allen farm on your site which I was so happy to learn. Asa was another son of Deacon David Allen.
My Jonathan ALLEN born 1804 married Anna CHAMBERLAIN and they went back & forth between Bradford Co. & across the line near Elmira NY before moving to Wisconsin in the 1850's. I am looking for a burial place for their son Mansur Allen who was born 28 Jan 1834 died 6 Apr 1856. Assumed to have died before they left for Wisconsin.
Their daughter Cynthia Emily Allen born 1832 married Porter TOOMBS BROWN in Elmira in 1850 and later moved to Wisconsin. Porter is a real mystery. He was born ca 1818 Porter Toombs but was adopted by a Brown family after his parents died. I can't find what Brown family or his parents. Does anyone have info?
I have the ALLEN & CHAMBERLAIN families back many generations & will be happy to share with others. Other names include GOODENOUGH & WARREN & many more.
Thanks for your site.

Hi Joyce...
First of all I want to thank you for your incredible website. I have learned so
much about my family from here.
Second I was wondering if you could help me. I am trying to find out information on Jeremiah Decker who was born in 1812 in NY per the 1850 census. He move to Bradford (I think Grainville) and married Ann Eliza Vroman about 1838. I have and obit from his son Rufus that said Jeremiah was a descendent of the Staten Island Decker's but I am getting no where locating him in that line. I do not know when he died but I was told his tomb stone was seen broken at Laddsburg Cemetery and then it was gone. I do not see it listed on the Laddsburg list. He is a dead end and I am getting frustrated. Any info you have would be greatly appreciated.
Best Regards..

Hi Joyce,
I have been doing some research on my wife's ancestors, one of whom was Amza
Linderman Ball who was born in August of 1827 in Bradford County, Pa. Was I
surprised when I went on line and saw a note sent you from Harold Hooper. I
believe this is the same Amza Ball that is my wife's ancestor.
Amza married twice, once to a Julia Danford by whom he had 9 children, then to
Sophia (Dwinell) Grover on 17 January 1875 (I believe in Wisconsin) by whom he
had five more children. Amza died on April 13, 1911 at the home of his daughter,
Grace Evelyn Krieger near Nampa, Idaho. His obituary lists one brother who
lived in Seattle, and four sisters, one in Oregon, one in Walla Walla, Washington,
one in Nenosha Mo., and one in Duluth, Mn.
If this is the same family, I would appreciate hearing from you, as up until now,
I had no idea of Amza's ancestry.
Anxiously waiting to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Richard F. Whiteoak
Would appreciate any help on the ancestry of Abizer FIELD and his wife Hannah WILBER or .WILBUR.

My Great Grandfather lived around Milan, Pennsylvania. I think his name was Patterson Monroe. He was married and had 4 children, then married my Great Grandmother Cornelia (Rerrick) Monroe and they had two children. Frederick born in 1863 and Thomas Patterson Monroe, my Grandfather born 21 June 1865. In the 1870 Census my Great Grandmother was listed as a widow, so my Great Grandfather died sometime between 1865 and 1870. Family Verbal history is that he was killed by a bull. I think he was born in New York.
I will be glad to provide you with any and all of the information I have
on my family
Thanks for your help.

Love, love, love your website! It's so very cool! Genealogy happens to be my favorite hobby, along with my (our) 12-year-old son. A local friend is trying to help me find some of my relatives. She sent me this information:
Bradford Col., PA, 1796 Tax List, Wysox District, comprising the central strip, 5 3/4 miles wide, lying between Tioga and Wyalusing and extending across the county, and several names are included, one being the first relative on my father's side, Ebenezer Lee.
Ebenezer Lee was born in 1774, he married Betsy Janes, b 1780 (daughter of Humphrey Janes and Thankful Campbell), d 10 Nov 1839. Ebenezer died 1812. They had two children, Emily Lee b 27 Jan 1802 and Joseph Ellis Lee b 06 Jun 1800. My local friend also sent me this information:
HEVERLY INDEX, part of the Tri-County Genealogy site by you. It shows Ebenezer and Roswell Lee on page 125, stating Ebenezer and Roswell Lee were among the first to locate in Warren, coming thereto in or before 1803. Roswell was a teacher and taught the first school in the town, 1807. The Lees left before 1812.
On page 130 it states: Williams Lee, born 31 Jan 1771, came from Rensselaer County, NY to Monroe in or before 1804. Six years later, he joined the Albany pioneers and shared with them the hardships of life in a new country. Here he spent the balance of his days. His wife was Elizabeth Lindsley and their children, Morrilla (Mrs. Henry Hibbard), Polly (Mrs. Seth Stevens), Rachel (Mrs. Solon Lindsley), James married Tracy Scriven, Anna (Mrs. Abner Emory), Joseph married Hannah Brewster and Williams married Sally Brewster.
___ I know nothing else about Ebenezer Lee. I don't know where he was born or where he died. I only have the birth year and the death year, no dates otherwise. I know of no siblings either, sounds like Roswell and Williams were siblings, but how can I be sure?
I'm trying to find Ebenezer Lee's parents. Can you suggest any way to find them? I just don't know where to start. I live in southern Ohio, so it's not easy for me to get to PA to check records.
Any advice you can give me is much appreciated.
Thank you in advance, and God Bless,
Becky (Lee) Huff

Hi,
I have been looking for a
Charles Henry Smith born in PA. July, 1838. He lived and died in Indiana and
the first real clue I have is the 1880 census. I have been unable to find him in
1870. However, he was civil war from Pa but have been unable to find a record
and in 1860 census I have located three Charles Smith's born in Pa 31 years of
age. One is in Bradford County, Ulster living with a family by the name of Lenox.
Could you give me any help in where or how I might find a reference to him. In
1850 he would be eleven but there are so many Smiths in Bradford County that I
have not been able to find the right one by searching the census record.
I think your web site is fantastic.

Dear Joyce,
Your sites and research are really wonderful. I have enjoyed your site and
have truly appreciated your hard work.
I have been trying to find my great grandmother who was born in LeRaysville according to her obituary. Her maiden name was Ella Smith, although in the 1880 census her name was recorded as Ellen. Ella is on her gravestone.
Her obituary states that she was born in LeRaysville, Pa June 1, 1850. She married John Dyer of Dubuque, Iowa on October 12, 1876 in Parkerburg, Iowa. She died in 1927.
I originally thought she may be the daughter of Alonzo Smith of Leraysville but this did not pan out. I believe her family must have moved to Iowa sometime between her birth and her date of marriage. but on the other hand maybe she moved alone, but I doubt that.
I was hoping you could direct me where to look next. Smith is a very difficult name to research, I certainly could use some advice.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Cyndy
I have found my gggrandfather, Earl P.Wood in the 1860 census for Wells Township, Bradford County. Also found that Earl and his wife, Lucinda Hall Wood, are referenced in Rhode Island Genealogy Register, Vol.6 #3 pge 146, stating they are buried in Bradford County. ( Apparently, they married in Plainfield,Ct and moved to Rhode Island before they relocated in Town of Wells) I think that Earl was the recipient of a land grant.( I cannot seem to find the reference )
Earl and Lucinda had at least three children. They were: John, Spencer ( my ancestor) and Juliana.
I am hoping that there is somebody who can help me fill in some blanks. I would really like to know where they are buried and any burial information if possible, if there is any reference to Earl's father's name, if anyone knows of descendants of any of the children. I have documented information on Spencer's line and will be happy to share.
Thank you. Beverlee Wightman(leewight@gdsys.net)

Hi Joyce, I was so surprised to hear back from you so soon. My great grandfather was minister at the Beaver Meadows Church. He was the pastor there around 1898. I have seen the documentation and record of his stay there on your site but no details of where he lived, or moved to, or buried. I did look over the site and serched cemeteries but can't find where he went. Do you have a suggestion on where I could look in the tri county site?..I do realize you can't serch for me and I appreciate your time. Thanks again.

Dear Joyce: I found your web page on the internet and wonder if you have any more information about Jacob Miller, an early settler of Columbia, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, who was a revolutionary soldier. He is listed in the histories as one of the early settlers.
Are there any records that indicate where he came from? I am searching for the family of my husband's great-great grandfather, Eleazer Miller, who was in the 1830 Census, and from your table, it appears he was on the same page or very close to Jacob Miller. Eleazer's father was supposed to have been a soldier in the Revolution. We understand Eleazer was born in Coeymans, Albany County, New York in 1795 and wonder if Jacob might have been his father, since he appears to have been living close by in 1830.
Are there any records that indicate when Jacob died and who his wife was? We believe Eleazer's mother was Sabra or Sabrina.
We have recently learned that Eleazer had a brother, John, who in 1830 had responsibilities for the Methodist Church "in the neighborhood" which I assume would have been near Columbia in Bradford County. We would be interested to know if there are Methodist Church records that might be helpful. I didn't see any listed on the Columbia page.
I know you are very busy and are keeping track of three counties. I appreciate any guidance you can provide. I checked the histories on the Columbia page and only found the info that Jacob Miller was an early settler and was a revolutionary soldier.
Thank you very much.

Hello Joyce,
Congratulations on your PA county sites. They are much, much better that
what you usually see. A lot of work. I am writing to see if you have heard of
Coddingtons in the county ca. 1840, or perhaps earlier. I have an Enoch Gideon
Coddington (b. abt 1805, NY) in the 1840 census, and another unconnected John
Coddington (b. abt 1819, PA) in the 1850 census in Rush, Susquehanna. Both of
these are unconnected to the main Coddington tree. Enoch Gideon seems to have
removed to Susquehanna Co. by 1860, where he appears in that census, also 1870
and 1880. There is a Thomas Coddington in the 1830 Jackson, Susquehanna Co.
census who may have been the father of these two men, but I can't place him either.
Anyway, I thought I would write and ask if the name rings a bell.
Thanks Jonathan Coddington
Dear Ms. Tice,
I check your computer records often and am convinced that my
family was in Bradford Cty between 1800 and 1850, mayby longer. I noticed
that you requested users of these records send their records to you so that
you can include this in your records . I am sending along what I know, what
I think, and what is a good guess. I hope, someone seeing these records will
be able to fill in some blanks and be able to give me some clues to pursue.
Caroline Park married Wm Cozens 3-1-1817 (per his service in the War Of 1812)
in Athens, Bradford Cty Pa.
Per The Sullivan Cty, Mo. 1860 census, she was born in Conn, and he was born in New Jersey. Per the 1870 census, Sullivan Cty. Mo. Wm Cozens was 82 Yrs old and living in the household of a John Weaver. Caroline does not appear.
Per the 1830 Census Athens Twp. Bradford Cty, Pa . WmCozens and Caroline Park Cozens had Three children: (l) a boy age between 5/10, so in l850 between 25 to 30. (2) a boy age between 10/15, so in l850 between 30 to 35, (3) a daughter age between 5/10 born about 1826 "Anna". I have no clue as to the names of these two boys or what happened to them. By 1850 they were gone.
Per 1850 census , Athens Twp,Pa. Wm Cozens and Caroline Park Cozens had two children at home. (1) Charles 15yrs old , born 1835 in Pa. and (2)Chester 13 Yrs old, born 1837 in Pa. Their daughter, "Anna" Had married Winthrop Hubbard. (his second Marriage in Mo gives his name as Hulbert. There are many variations of this name, Hubbard, Hulbert,Hulburt, Hurlbert, Hurlburt, Hibbard, Hubert and others. Anna Cozens and Winthrop Hubbards were in Athens Twp , Pa In 1850 and in Sulllivan Cty Mo. by 1860. They had six sons , No daughters. (l.) James H. Hubbard born 12-14-1846 ,in Pa. (could middle name have been Harvery?) I believe he might have died in the Civil War. (2) Charles Hubbard born 5-10-1848 (early death?) (3) George Franklin Hubbard born 8-7-1849 (early death?) (4) Lemuel Chandler Hubbard born 6-27-l852 (early death?) (5) John Buchanan Hubbard born 9-15-1857 Probably Mo. died about 1900. My grand-father (6) Albert Hubbard born 3-19-l862 Mo. died about 1935. Uncle Bert, a lovely person. The middle names of these children made me wonder if Winthrop Hubbard and Anna Cozens had these family names in their ancestries.
Winthrop & Anna are also listed in Ulster Twp, Bradford Cty, Pa in 1850in what appears to be the household of Tryphina Bixby---who might have been born a Wolcott & Married to a Hubbard in a neighboring cty.
I am trying to establish Winthrop's parents. He might have been born in New York State . His ancestry may be out of Conn. There is at least three James Harvey Hulberts at about the right time. (1) born 7-8-1802 Essex, Chittenden, Vt. (2) born 8-22-l834 Portland, Chautauqua Cty., N.Y. (3) died 3-17-1782 Middletown, Conn. There are also two Winthrop Hurlberts in Conn belonging to the Conn. line (in and around New London, Conn.
Wm Cozens born 1788. I believe this is his line, but there could be mistakes. WM Cozens of (Sandtown) now Mercerville, Salem Cty, NJ married Caroline Park was Probably the son of Elijah Cozens ,born Gloucester Cty, N.J. 12-23-1753 Married Ann Moffett. He was the son of Samuel Cozens born 1734? whose wife was maybe Katherine Cox or maybe Elizabeth Richards . Samuel was the son of George Cozens born about1700 Greenwich Twp Gloucester Cty N.J. Her marriedEleanor Chester. George was the son Jacob Cozens who appeared in New Jersey about 1680 Greenwich Twp. Married Sarah.
anyway -----all or most of the New Jersey Cozens seem to lead back to Jacob 1680. I don't think this Jacob Has any connection to the Massachusett Cozens. The dates don't fit. Caroline Parrk--I need to determine her Parents. The Moses Park of Bradford Cty doesn't seem to have had a daughter"Caroline".... The Moses Parkof Conn. had a daughter Caroline , But she had two husbands and the dates of her marriages conflict with the marriage of my Caroline. If my Caroline Came from Conn. then her father must be close by in Bradford Cty. Pa.
I Hope this information
generates some information from somebody.
Thank You. Margaret Taylor (MTaylo 1020@aol.com

Does anyone have any information on this man? I find him, age 35, in the 1900 census, married to Mary KRESS and living in Canton. I can't find any other reference, or a MOON family with a son by that name or even close. I have reason to believe that he and Mary removed to Syracuse after the death of her mother, Canzonetta KRESS. Thank you.

I have mined a lot of information from this site about Reuben BUMPUS for which Bumpville was named but there is some question as to whether he had children. I have found him in the census in Albany County New York in 1800 with 1 boy and 2 girls living in his home, all under 10. In the 1810 census he was in Orwell (to become Rome) TWP in the portion of Luzern County that became Bradford county with 1 boy and 1 girl, both under 10. "The Rome Township History" by C. F. Heverly states "His wife was Phebe GIBBS. They had no children." I believe they did have children and that the boy was named Reuben and was born in 1800. In 1830, Reuben Jr. was living in Richland County, Ohio. Also living in Richland County was the brother of Reuben Sr., Frederick BUMPUS. Reuben Sr. lived in the tri county area until 1849 when he died in his 90th year.
Does any one know of any records that would name the children, if indeed the census records are accurate?
Thank you Marlow Samuel Bumpus
Joyce--
My g.g.grandfather's sister was Anna Morgan Wilmot, wife of David Wilmot. My
g.grandmother, Louisa Fairfax Morgan Crockett, was her niece. My brother is
David Wilmot Crockett and several other family members' middle names were/are
Wilmot. I have a large framed picture signed by David Wilmot that has been
passed down.
As you know, Anna and David's 3 children did not have children to carry on the line. I'm researching the Morgan side of the family and wondered if there's any information on Anna's siblings or parents, Thomas H. and Katherine Gregory Morgan, available in your location. I know that Thomas H. was the proprietor of the Eagle Hotel in Bethlehem at the time of his death and he left his wife Katherine, 4 sons and 3 daughters. My g.grandfather, Charles W. and his sister, Anna, were 2 of those children.
Any information you can provide will be appreciated.
Sincerely, Donna Crockett Mowery

She married John BENNETT, 3 children that I have so far found on the 1850 Wilmot Township Census are Harriet BENNETT 1836, Ursilla BENNETT b. 1838, Altheda BENNETT1840. I just rec'd Ursilla's death certificate and she names her mother as Hannah STONE. I have no information on her death as of yet, or parents/siblings. Altheda married Charles BENNETT (not sure of relationship, if any) and Ursilla married an Ebenezer CLARK, and a Watkins INMAN. Both Ursilla and Altheda are buried in Laddsburg Cemetery.

Dear Ms. Tice:
I will be visiting Wyalusing in a rented car next month, arriving in the
evening of Sunday Nov 16 and leaving in the evening of Tue Nov 18. My
purpose is to visit the home area of my great great grandfather William
Vaughan, who, I believe, was born and reared at the Vaughan Hill Farm in
Wyalusing around 1775, and went on to become a local naval hero in the War
of 1812, at Sackets Harbor, NY.
William's father, Lt. Richard Vaughan, served in the Revolutionary War and is reputed to have been buried in 1791 in the Vaughan Hill Cemetery in Wyalusing. I would like to visit his grave.
I wonder whether there are members of this Vaughan family still residing in Wyalusing or vicinity. If so, it would be nice to meet them and have a cup of coffee.
I have never visited Wyalusing before, and would welcome any advice or tips you might be able to give me. Meanwhile, I will continue to search through your splendid web site.
Sincerely,
Robert B. Textor
