Joyce,
I have been trying to research my ancestors. I keep getting stuck when
trying to find out who Sewell Pike, born Oct. 15, 1777 in Veteran, NY,
parents were. All I know is his fathers name was Samuel, believed to have
been born 1750 in Mass and died 177? near Valley Forge, PA. I can't seem
to go back far enough to find any information on his parents. Sewell Pike
is buried in Winton/Catharine Cemetery. Although the information I have
found on this is wrong. On the cemetery website it says the name on the
tombstone is Mrs. Sewell Pike, it is not her, it is him. I know his wife,
Pamela Beardsley Pike went to North Solon, Oh with one of her sons after
Sewell's death.
Anyway, is there somewhere this information on his parents might be? I was hoping for some kind of birth certificate which might list his parents names. Any help you can give will be appreciated.
Thank you,
Karen Pike

Dear, Joyce My name is Helen Mack I am formerly from Elmira NY and I am looking for some information on my parents' and grandparents' deaths. I've appreciated your work on the Bradford county website for a couple of years now and, lo and behold, today I see that you have Connely roots. Can you help me?
I'm looking for info on gggrandfather John Connely born Cork in 1809, married to Fanny born Ireland 1821. They came to Towanda sometime in the 1840's and had 7 children. Dennis-born 1850/51, James b. 4/52, John D. b 12/24/53, Patrick David b. 1855 (my greatgrandfather), Michael b about 1859(a boxer), Thomas and Molly. Patrick married another Towanda girl Mary Fitten b.1857, who was daughter of John Fitten and Mary Coughlin. I've found some info in the census of 1850 and 1880 but nothing later. I know Patrick left farming and went into road construction with his brothers. They also changed their name spelling to Conley. They moved to Ithaca, New York 1n 1888 or thereabouts. My mother says that many of these Connely's are buried in Towanda. Can you guess where.
Thanks for any help you can give Carol Conley Rohan
Hi Marianne, I picked your request off the Tri County Queries - Chemung County - 2001 list to see if I could help. Charles Head and Polly Johnson were married Sept 13, 1849 . He was 22 and she was 18. They were married by Rev. Mr. Crow. The marriage record is listed in the Southport Marriage book, but sorry to say that is the only information that it gives.
If I find anything more, I'll forward it on to you.

Sorry this is so long. Thanks for any info.
I need help. My grandfather Fred Carl Landrus was born in 1896. I only know a little about him, and I would appreciate any help. My father Stephen (his son) was born in 1958 in Elmira, New York. My great-Uncle Russell Landrus was Fred's brother and lived in Elmira until he passed away about 10 years ago. My grandfather was a magician and met my grandmother Martha in Texas in the early fifties. They started touring on the side shows with Ringling Bros. Circus in the mid fifties. Fred passed away in the late 1960's around 1968. Ok, here's what I need help with. My dad told me one time that he had older brothers from Fred's first marriage that he has never met. He doesn't know their names, but I believe he said one is a doctor in New York and one passed away in WWII. I hope to hear from somebody and I really appreicate the help. :)
Sincerely,
Kendra Landrus

I am looking for information on the Nicholson family. I have 3 in my family tree. The first is John Nicholson, who had a son named Thomas (1768-1792) Thomas married Rebecca Bradner, who married Zephaniah Halsey after Thomas's death. They had a daughter named Eliza Nicholson (1799-1811) who died of cancer.
I have several letters written to and by Eliza Nicholson, as well as about 50 documents pertaining to a land dispute between Zephaniah Halsey and John Nicholson. Apparantly, the dispute occured when John left the land to Eliza after Thomas's death. When Eliza died, Zephaniah felt the land should go to him, and John wanted it back. I have not sifted through them all yet. I would like more information on this family if you have any.
Thanks for your time and assistance.

My father, John JONES born 1912 was the son of James Morgan JONES (son of James Albert JONES and Amy COOPER) and Ruth Mable ROGERS (daughter of Miles Luther ROGERS and Phoebe Josephine GEORGIA). My grandparents and his parents are buried in North Chemung cemetery. My grandmothers' parents are buried in the Chemung cemetery. I have a copy of a printed history of the Georgias in America, and thanks to help on the internet, a history of the ROGERS, but I would like to know more of the history of the JONES family. I know a little about the COOPERs, but would like to know more about them, too. It seems that Elijah and Elisha were popular names for COOPERs. Amy's father was Elisha and his father was Elijah, Some of the COOPER ancestors are buried in the Lockwood cemetery. Where did the COOPER and JONES families come from? My grandfather used to tell me New Jersey, but I have no proof.
Thank you for any help you can give. Ruth Lothers

My name is Jerilyn Staples Saunders. I am researching my great grandfather, Federick STAPLES. He lived near Horseheads. According to the 1900 census he lived with wife Florence(b. 1862), sons Clarence(b.1885), Archie(b.1887), Howard(b.1890), Burton(b.1891)*, and Wesley(b.1897).(My father remembers these names but says the wife's name is not familiar). When my grandfather Burton* was about 11 - 13, Frederick died of a heart attack. The brothers were "farmed" out to uncles in the neighborhood to be raised. My father said at one time my grandmother had a newspaper article dating about 1902 -1905 or so telling of the incident. We have never found it. I was looking for Fredericks parents etc. This is all the information I have. Any help would be appreciated. Also checked your online cemetaries, no luck there.
Thank you, Jeri
I am seeking help and information on the Dean/and Cole families who lived in Elmira on the 1920 census.I know the following information Hazel L. Cole married Doyle L Dean. they had 4 children Doyle Dean Jr.,Marjorie E., Ella and Charles. We know that Charles(the baby) was adopted by the Southard family. Marjorie was my mother-in-law. The children were placed in some type of home. We know that the home placed her at some farm to work when she was old enough. We do not know what happened to Ella and Doyle Jr. Also in the 1920 census the only people living in the household were the children, their mother and their Grandmother Ester Cole. Marjorie talked alot about Horseheads so there may be a connection there. Before her death she talked very little about her childhood saying it was not a good one.
If anyone can give me any info or direction I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance

Joyce,
First let me say what a great site you have. I think by now
I have been thru most of it. I have been looking for the name Rogers.
Milford Everetts Rogers was a cabinet maker and was born 6 June 1869. His
father was George Whitfield Rogers a farmer. His mother was Merriba Mathews.
They are all buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira. Milford also had one
brother - George Hudson Rogers. Wife of Milford was Alice Jerusha DeVore.
The parents of Alice were: Winfield Scott DeVore and Phoebe Slawson. The
only Rogers I could find was a George W. Rogers, but it said he was buried
in the 2nd Street Cemetery so I am not sure he is the correct one. If you
could give me any help, I sure would appreciate it. I live in Georgia so
I don't get to NY to often.
Thanks in advance,
Ed Wheeler emlbwheeler@mindspring.com
