Subject: Amey Inman (-TUTTLE or ESTEN maiden name) Chemung County

Hello List: We are researching my husband's family and have an unusual problem. His 3rd great grandmother was married to Stephen Inman but different researchers list her maiden name as either TUTTLE or ESTEN.

What we know about her from our research is: Mrs. Amey Inman was born 31 Oct. 1776 and census records differ as to the State - one listing RI and another listing VT. Some list her first name as Emma or Anna or Amey with middle name as Mary.

She married Stephen INMAN. On Tri-County site there is mention in "Four County History 1870-Chapter 49-Town of Baldwin" that Stephen Inman, with his sons Martin, George, James, Stephen, Jr. and Charles also from Dorset, VT came in the same year (1817) and settled in the north part of the town. They were farmers in the Waverly, Baldwin, Chemung County, NY area. Both Stephen and Amey are buried in the No. Chemung County Cemetery. Her tombstone reads "AMEY" died 28 Sept. 1875 which would make her 98 yrs. 10 mo. 28 days (carved on the stone). There is no maiden name listed on the books of the caretaker for this cemetery.

My 2nd great grandmother was Hannah INMAN-Randall - Daughter of Stephen & Amey. Hannah was born 15 Sep. 1809. Census research for Hannah and her death certificate show her birth in Chemung County, New York State. The death certificate from Chemung County, NY for Hannah only listed her mother's first name as "Anna" and no maiden name was given. We have searched for obits for Amey Inman but so far nothing has been found.

Any ideas for further research would be greatly appreciated. Our goal is to find correct maiden name of TUTTLE or ESTEN and then find supporting source documents. Thanks for any help as this is truly a mystery.

The Old Folks, Jerry & Jean RANDALL - to send us an email off list:

Subject: Doomsday book

Hello, my name is Carroll Winder, I live in the state of Nevada, Elko County. I hope you can help me. My Grandmother was place in the Southern Tier Orphanage Sept 6, 1896 and then transferred to the, The Children's Aid Society of that same year. I was reading on the Tri Countie web site about the history of the two orphanages, and it mentioned the Doomsday book. Is it possible to have a name looked up or to see a film of it? My Grandmother was place on the orphan train and taken to Kansas. I have found out that much. It was one of her desires to find out what happened to the rest of her family. I wish to thank you for reading this and if you can help I really am thankful.

Subject: Riverside Hotel

For years I have looked for something/anything on the above-mentioned hotel owned by my great-grandfather, Edward J. WEAVER.

I was always under the assumption that it was at Fitch's Bridge; recently, however, I learned that the hotel was located in Clark's Glen(n)--NEAR Fitch's Bridge.

I have the ad for the Riverside Hotel from the 1911 city directory. What I am looking to find is a picture of the hotel--or any other information about it.

Thank you, Judy Stromsted

Lillian H. BANKS was my Grandmother. She was born in Millport on Aug. 26, 1872. Marriage certificate gave her parents names as Cora and John Banks. We believe that they may have been her Grandparents who adopted her either because her mother died in child birth or she was illegitimate or both. We believe her real father's last name was Parent and he worked on the canal. He remarried and had another daughter (Lillian's 1/2 sister). We took my Grandmother to Elmira in the 1950s to visit either her aunt or 1/2 sister. The City Directory lists an Ernest and Jennie Banks at 313 Franklin St. My Father's name is Ernest. We thought there might be some connection. Lillian Banks married Henry Wade in Batavia, NY. They lived in Penn Yan for awhile and then kept moving until they ended up in Auburn, NY. We can't find out anymore about my Grandmother's family.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
