I am trying to trace the lineage of one of the first settlers in the Town of Catlin--James I. Smith. He moved to Catlin in 1823. Are there any records showing who his father was?
The cemetery at Smith's Corners has many of my family members, but I can go back no farther than James I. Smith.

Dear Joyce - I LOVE your website -especially your postcard picture.
Our family (Tuccinardi) lived in Chemung for 50 years, on Clark Rd, which runs east from Wyncoop Creek Road.
Did what is now known as Sprague Road used to be called Van Gaasback Road?
Where Sprague crosses Clark (these were dirt roads), at the top of Tillman Hill, did the road that ran north towards Owens Mills have a different name other than Van Gaasback. If so, what was it?
If I lived there, I would be able to go to the Chemung County
Historical Society and buy a 1964 county road map they have, however, I
live here
in Florida...........Thanks in advance if you are able to answer.
Mike Tuccinardi
I would like to correspond with anyone who is researching the above. I believe that she is a sister of Catherine PERSONIUS Barber (wife of Samuel B. Barber) who lived in Veteran, Chemung County in 1880. I would like further information on Mary's family and parents.

Can anyone (please) help confirm and connect this possible Welton family?
Mary B. Welton Beers, b. VT 1802; per 1880 census, her father was b. VT and mother b. NJ. She married John Beers before 1828, when son William Henry was born 28 Nov 1828 at Blossburg, Tioga Co., PA. They were at Southport, Tioga Co., NY in 1830 with William Henry, and still at Southport, now Chemung Co., NY in 1840 with William Henry, Angeline and Silas H. Elias P., 1830-1838, didn't live long enough to be recorded in a federal census, but seems to be included in the 1835 NYS census, when John Beers was apparently confused with his cousin, John N. Beers. (John is not indexed in 1840, but is found listed right after John N.)
Mary B. was widowed before the 1850 census, when she was at Dryden, Tompkins County, NY, with three children: Angeline, b. 1832/33; "Sarah" who was actually Silas H., b. 1838/39, at [Southport] Chemung Co., NY, and Candace, b. 1844/45, probably at Steuben Co., NY. In the 1855 NYS census, she was at Schuyler Co., NY (where William Henry died in 1853) with Silas and Candace and this is where their birth places come from. In 1860, although again not indexed, she was a seamstress at Wells Twp, Bradford Co., PA (Edsallville post office), with Silas, Candace (now as Catherine) and James, b. 1847/48 in NY (and a total mystery, never to be seen again - as was Angeline, although she is apparently listed in the 1840 census).
In 1870, Mary Beers is living with Silas and his family at East
Charleston, Tioga Co., PA, and in 1880, what could be the same location
is now Duncan, Tioga Co., PA. She died 8 Jul 1889 at Antrim, Tioga Co.,
PA, according to an obituary published in the Wellsboro Gazette on 18
Jul 1889.
Ch named William Henry, Angeline, Elias P., Silas H. and Candace C.
Lester Welton, b. VT, 1802/03, was found only at Chatham, Tioga Co., PA in 1850 census (p.163). Lester was a sawyer, his wife was Sally and their children were named Charles (or poss. brother?, age 28, laborer), Andrew, Helen, Harriet, Otis, Daniel and Holmes.
Mary B. Welton Beers found at Wells Twp, Bradford Co., PA in 1860 and East Charleston, Tioga Co., PA in 1870 (with son Silas and his family) but this is also where the Beers family was located; they were all carpenters, wheelwrights, carriage-builders and sawyers.
Sallie Welton/Wilton b 1803 NY, father b CT mother b NJ per 1880 census. She married William A. Carr. At one time they resided in Southport as one of their sons was born there. Also possible connection in Wells Township, Bradford Co., PA: James and Calvin Carr early 1830's. Sallie and William move to Scipo, Hillsdale County, MI about 1845.
Mary B. Welton Beers was also b. NY at least once; her parents were b. CT and NJ in 1880. She was at Southport in 1830 and 1840.
Hezekiah B. Welton, b. 1804/05 at VT, was at Groton, Tompkins Co., NY in 1850. Hezekiah was a shoemaker, his wife was Sophia (b.1805/06) and their children were Walter, Aimee and Mary. (Walter - and Aimee? - may have been ch of a first wife because three Benjamin children fill the age gap between Walter and Aimee). He may also be the Hezekiah B. Welton at Sheldon, Genesee Co., NY in 1830 (p.283), b. 1800-1810 with wife b. 1800-1810 and one daughter, b.1825-1830.
Mary B. Welton Beers was found in the 1850 census at Groton; H. B. Welton was a witness at the marriage of one of Sallie Welton Carr's sons in 1851, but he could have been a cousin unless there were first cousins of the same name born at about the same time (see below).
A possible father for these possible siblings would be: 1820: Silas Welton at Dryden, Tompkins Co., p. 24 (could not find him but name and location could be important! Ancestry.com census images all snafu for this twp in 1820 census; on Tompkins Co. NYGenWeb site, the name in the 1820 census is Elias - which could as easily have been transcribed wrong as Silas was indexed wrong - and he headed a family of:
1 male under 10, b. 1810-1820and if his name was Elias, that could be Elias Welton, b. 18 Jul 1776 at New Haven, New Haven Co, CT, the son of Nathaniel Welton and Martha Tuttle; but there seems to be no further information about Elias or his siblings: Sarah, Hezekiah (b. 1766), Uri (b. 1768), Nathaniel (b.1770), Jarvis (b. 1772), Allen (b. 1774), all at New Haven..
3 males 10-15, b. 1805-1810
1 male 16-25, b. 1795-1804 (but not 1802-1804)
1 male 45+, b. bef 1776
2 fem under 10, b. 1810-1820
1 fem 10-15, b. 1805-1810
1 fem 16-25, b. 1795-1804
1 fem 26-44, b. 1776-1794
Unless that Hezekiah is the one at Sheldon, Genesee Co., NY in 1840, p. 188, indexed as "Hesikiah Wilton":1 m b. 1761-1770, 1 f b. 1801-1810; with Jarvis Welton (prob son, b. 1791-1800, not brother) next door. Chancey Welton (b. 1811-1820) was also at Sheldon, p. 223. By 1850, Chancey seems to be at E. Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co., OH, p. 315: [Chancey Welton, 30, Laborer, b. NY; Eliza, 28, b. MA, Mortimer G., 12, b. NY, Daniel, 10, b. NY and Ashley (m), 2, b. OH.] A Uri Wilton was at Pickaway Co., OH in 1810 (no details available), while Nathaniel Welton seems to have stayed at New Haven Co., CT 1800-1820 and Allen Welton is found only in 1800 at Litchfield Co, CT (10110-20010-00).
I am looking for any information I can find on the above listed people. Adelbert was the youngest son of Peter Westbrook of Van Etten NY in Chemung CO. I know Adelbert died in the 1920's. I recently traveled to NY to do research but was unable to find anything on Adelbert or Elizabeth. My grandfather Gordon was the only child of Adelbert and Elizabeth. I looked for their graves but was unsuccessful. I find generations before them ie: Peter and Samual Westbrook. Any documentation of their existance would be appreciated. I have the 1900 census which lists as a farmer and landowner married to his second wife Kathrine?
Thankyou Julia Hein
I am looking for information on my GGG-Grandparents Patrick Greene (Green) Sr. and Anna Kelleher Greene (Green).
What is known is that both were from Ireland and settled in Elmira. 1880 census list Anna Green living in Elmira with her son Patrick J. Green, a daughter Maggie Green, and a Grand-daughter Lizzie Congdon. Using the census Anna was widowed by 1880 and was born around 1820.
Patrick was born on April 17 1854 and died on May 31 1924. His occupation was shoemaker at the Boot and shoe factory. His address when he died was 409 W Hudson Street ward 16, Elmira.
Maggie was born around 1857 and also worked at the boot and shoe factory.
Lizzie Congdon was born around 1874.
Any information on any of these people are welcomed. Does anyone have any information on the boot and shoe factory? Seems like a lot of people in Elmira had the same occupation.
Thanks

One of my greatest genealogical challenges is understanding about my gggrandmother, Margaret BAHAN KANE. Here she is listed in the 1850 Census living in a household with a funny assortment of other individuals. Can anyone connect to these others? Margaret and "husband" Simon KANE reportedly left Co. Clare in May/June 1849. I NEVER find Simon and Margaret together again after the ships passenger list. Margaret remains with one/both of her children for many years thereafter. In 1860, she resides with sons Michael and John in Barton/Waverly, NY (Tioga County) and in 1870, she resides with son John and his wife in Waverly again. Meanwhile, Simon marries Mary CAHILL in Elmira, Chemung Co., NY in 1862. They are found in 1870 in Canton Boro, Bradford Co., PA in in Elmira thereafter. Obviously, something is amiss!

Hi Joyce:
Your site is outstanding. Thank you for all your work. Please look up
the
following for me:
The marriage certificate for my grandparents show the last name as SILVAN, Rose, to NOLFI, Anthony on January 7, 1899 at the Elmira Court House. Both of whom show their residence in Elmira. I believe that the name was changed from SOLOMETO. The record shows her father's name as John SILVAN. I have copies of the Elmira and Horseheads Directory beginning in 1913 which shows the name SOLOMETO to the present. I'm pretty sure the Silvan name was an alias. Do you show any record for them prior to 1913 living in the Elmira/Horseheads area? The 1920 Census has them in Horseheads using the name Solometo.
Appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks again for your wonderful
work.

Hi Joyce,
My name is Julia Hein. I recently traveled from Milwaukee WI to Elmira
to research my ansestors the Westbrooks. I desend from Samuel
Westbrook. We had a great time looking for graves. We were successful
in finding many of them. The one that we did not find was Adelbert
Westbrook. He was my great-grandfather. I know he died around 1928 or
so and I know he remained in the Elmira area. I have found virtually no
record of him. I am also looking for Elizabeth "Canady" Kennedy
Westbrook. She was my great-grandmother. I believe that she died around
1881. Adelbert's second wife was Cathrine. I did find them on the 1900
census in Van Etten. My grandfather was Gordon Westbrook the only child
of Adelbert and Elizabeth. I also found him in a directory as a newsboy
in 1990. I believe he left the area shortly after that. Any assistance
or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
P.S. Great Website I did research for about a year and then found your site It added a lot of details to my information.
Can anyone give me the mailing addresses for Mt. Hope Cemetery in Van Etten and Miller Cemetery in Big Flats?
I am looking for more info on BOGARTs buried at Mt. Hope and POTTERs buried at Miller Cemetery.
Thank you.

Dear Joyce,
Your site is amazing. I recognize the amount of work that
has been expended to make it so. congratulations!
The Chemung County Newspaper Abstacts by Isabel Ridall, parts five and six, do not seem available to call up on the website. This is the period I am searching.
I am research the life of Hamden Wallace McIntyre(also spelled McIntire) born 1834 in Randolph twp, Vermont. He moved to Elmira in 1859 0r 1860. He Married Susan H. Johnson ,native of Waterville,Maine, in Elmira in November,1859. Susan was born 1835. She died in Elmira on October 22, 1880. They are both listed in the 1870 and 1880 federal census as residents of Elmira.
Susan H. Johson McIntyre is buried at Woodlawn cemetary and her death records are there and transcribed by the Boyds to the Chemung Co. Historical Society and the Steele Memorial Library.
Here is my question and my stumbling block. They had two children who died young. The family thinks before 1870. I need their names and dates, both births and deaths. McIntyre family notes report," In Augusta, Me, He met Miss Susan H. Johnson, to whom he was married in 1860 and soon after removed to Elmira,NY, where a daughter and soon were born to them. Both children died, the boy in his infancy and the girl when but a few years old." Note that his published biographical sketch of 1891 says "he was joined in marriage at Elmira, NY, in November 1859..." Hamden's and Susan's marriage record would also be rewarding to have.
I have combed the the various on line record data bases and have found nothing for the children. My question to you is, "Do you undertake research projects for individuals?" I would be happy to hire you or somone else to look for these records.
Hamden went on to have an illustrious career with the Alaska Comercial Company and later designed a series of brilliant wineries for several of the most powerful men in 1880's California. I believed the deaths of his children were pivotal in dtermining his future directions.
Susan's cause of death and physician's name is apparently in the Woodlawn Cemetary ledger. I would value this information as well.
Sincerely,
Marvin Collins

I'm trying to find more information about Harris Jenkins who lived in or near Elmira, NY. He moved to Kansas in 1878 with his wife, Emily Cross Jenkins with their two children. I think he was born around 1837 according to his age on the 1880 census. Who are his parents? Does he have siblings?
I found another Harris Jenkins born around 1837 who is the son of Samuel Jenkins and Cynthia Tubbs. I don't think they are the same as their Harris is married to someone else. I found a Harris Jenkins (age 12) on the 1860 Southport Twp, Chemung Co Census listed with William Strouse and Catherine Strouse. Robert Jenkins (age 15) and Thomas Jenkins (age 17) are also listed with the Strouse family. I found Harris Jenkins (age 32) and Harris Jenkins Jr(?) (age 12) on the 1860 Chemung Co., Elmira, NY census listed with the James Jenkins family.
If you can help sort this out or know more about Harris Jenkins, I'd love to hear from you. To avoid spam I am giving my email address as bsxballxmom@swbell.xnet Please delete all x's from the email address
I would like to ask you a question because I know that you are such an expert on Chemung County. I've just gotten a copy of my husband's ggg, grandfather's land purchase in Elmira. (Probably really in Horseheads as that was where the family shows in the census)
The property was purchased from a larger group of Townsend family. John, Robert, Howard, Franklin, Frederick and also probably two sisters Anna T. Martin and her husband Henry H. and Marty Walker and her husband William H.
It was 219 1/2 acres situated as such: Lots #4 and 5 (20 acres off from the North end of subdivision lot #8) in the great lot #147 in Elmira. Later I see this tract of land called the "Lalla tract" of land.
Joyce, do you have any information on where the Townsend family lives in either Elmira or Horseheads in the 1840 or previous census so that I can see the actual place where this property was? Or do you have any info on the Lalla tract?
Thanks so much for the time you took to read my email! Sandy Lovell (property was bought by William Lovell and his wife Olive)
My great grandfather was DAVID WALTER ELLISON b in 1838 I need his parents name. He married ANNA NEAL 1869, she was born in 1850 He was in the 161 NY reg in the Civil war. He was born in Elmira his wife in PA. Anna's mother was RACHEL NEAL. There were three Ellison Girls born in the 1880's Celia Nell and Sarah who was my grandmother. Any information would be most helpful as I am at a standstill.
I enjoy your site very much , everyone has done a wonderful job. Ruth Camp
I need to document parents for Elizabeth SHOEMAKER born 1803 PA - probably Delaware twp, Northampton Co. She first shows up married to Sackett HILL on the 1830 Cayuta, Tioga (later Chemung, now Schuyler) Co, NY census, with the first 3 of their children. The only Shoemaker at Cayuta is John (Johannes SCHOONMAKER) Shoemaker, wife Phebe DECKER. Nearby at Erin are Isaac and Abram/Abraham Shoemaker. They're likely 2 of John's brothers and I know who their kids are - not my Elizabeth. John kept a tavern, was at times Postmaster and Sheriff.
So Elizabeth seems to be John's by default. I do not know who any of John and Phebe's children are except one adopted 1819 at age one week, Catharine SPERRY, whose mother died - the first white death in what will become Chemung County. The censuses show that John has at least one son and two daughters other than Catharine. I found an unidentified Phebe SHOEMAKER in the the SWARTWOOD cemetery with a birth age given that suggests she could be a daughter of John and Phebe, sister to Elizabeth.
Has anyone seen a will, or know anything about this family? http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:1499909&id=I109740015
McKINNEY men at Veteran, Tioga>Chemung County are carpenter John McKINNEY born about 1798 NY per censuses and what seems to be his brother Matthew b abt 1790 NY, farmer. Both Matthew, and John and wife Prudence COOK first show up at Catharine (now in Schuyler Co) on 1820 census. Each household already had a half-dozen children each. Of all those we are only positive of three of John and Pru's kids - John who died young, Augustus, and our Alice who married Thomas HILL, son of Sackett HILL and Elizabeth SHOEMAKER.
I've sorted through McKinneys at Chemung up through about 1850 and know a few who belong with Matthew - the rest are Best Guess whose is whose. These McKINNEY men, my guess, might be from Orange Co, NY - if any of you can place them with parents that'd be super, too! http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:1499909&id=I109743241

William Butler was born 2/13/1794 in Springfield, Mass. and died 6/13/1874 in Big Flats, Chemung County. He was married to Sophia Youngs who was born in Cobleskill. They were married there. I have found his father William Butler (married to Abigail Hitchcock) in Wilbraham, Mass. but can't get any further information on the Butler line.
Also looking for the parents of Margaret Vanderhoof born Oak Ridge NJ.in 1828 and Daniel Roe who was born in Chester Orange Co. in 1826. At some unknown time and place they married and moved to Chemung County. She died on 12/30/1900 and he died 8/18/1910. She may have had brothers William, C.F. and Henry.
I have information on their children which I am willing to share.

My great-grandmother, Delia M. GARVEY, was described as an "Elmira, N.Y. girl" in a Horton, KS newspaper in 1931. She was born c. 1856 in Salamanca, NY and married in 1874 in Unadilla, NY to Thomas McNERNEY. Her parents were Johanna DILLON Garvey, born Ireland c. 1840 and Mr. ? GARVEY. She also had a brother "Mike" GARVEY. Does anyone have any information about this family, or suggestions for further research.?

If you could give me a point in the right direction. I would appreciate it.

terrific amount of work you've put into it! It's terrific.

Thanks so much.

I am seeking information on my biological father, Jack Scott (born 12/22/22 in Elmira, died 9/9/86 in Norwich). He was born McCumber and his father was Leon McCumber (born 1901 in Coxsackie and died in Elmira in 1971). I am having a stone placed at my grandfather's grave in the next six months and would very much like to know a little about him (as well as my father), and any photos anyone can show me. It would mean a great deal to me to know more about both of them.

John was one of six children, und his sister Ursula also came to America. She was born on 30 Aug 1835. I cannot even find a possible for her in the 1880 census.

Hello Joyce,
My name is Grant Frost (I was born Jeffrey Todd Williamson). I am
adopted
and have recently begun trying to find information on my birth father
Arlo
Williamson who died in Canada in 1970 one year after I was born. As I
was
given up for adoption, I have very little information and I was hoping
you
could assist me in some way.
I have found my birth father's family members at the Maple Grove Cemetery website (http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/cemc/maplgr15.htm) where I saw the link to your e-mail address.
Is there any way you could help me find out more information about my father's family? The only information I have about them is their names and where they were from (Horseheads/Elmira area) from the information booklet at the time of my adoption.
I have listed their names below as I found them on your website with their relation to me:
Williamson George W. b.1863 d.1938 - My paternal great-grandfather
Williamson Mary A. b.1865 d.1945 - My paternal great-grandmother
Williamson Willis M. b.1927 d.1978 - Not sure...a paternal uncle?
Williamson Richard M. b.1950 d.1995 - Not sure...a paternal uncle?
Williamson Ward L. b.1890 d.1967 - My paternal grandfather
Williamson Lillian M. b.1898 d.1962 - My paternal grandmother
I am looking for any information I can find on any of my birth relatives and I am hoping that I may still have living relatives. Any help or information that you could give me at all would be a true blessing. Right now, you are my only hope at finding out anything about my birth family.
I have other information about my birth father and a little more information about his father Ward Williamson. If you would like any addiitonal information, please let me know.
Hoping you can help...
Thanks so much,
Grant Frost

Hi Joyce,
I really have enjoyed searching your sites but am having touble finding my husband's great grandfather. His name was Michael Henry(Marion) CAHILL. He was born in Chemung, New York on April 12, 1856. I do not have his parents names. I did find a Michael CAHILL in an 1880 census he was 24 and born in NY. It listed only a mother and her name was Ellen. But I don't know for sure that this is my Michael CAHILL. Michael died in Leavenworth, Washington in 1929. Any help or ideas would be wonderful.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Hello Joyce,
I live in Auburn, NY.
My siblings and I are trying to find more information about Adele
Deering, who was our great-grandmother. She was born to John and Anna
Veeder Carpenter in 1857, in Elbridge, NY, which is in Onondaga County.
I have a copy of her death certificate, which shows that at the time of
her death she lived in Breesport and died at age 81 on June 4, 1939. I
also contacted Woodlawn Cemetery on Walnut St. in Elmira, and found
that she is buried there, alone. The death certificate says she was
widowed at the time of her death but had been married to a James
Deering (her second husband).
We know that she was married before that to Edward Swan Fearing, our great-grandfather, in Auburn. Edward came from a monied family in New York City and was sent to Auburn to work at a woolen mill owned by the family. He met Adele in Auburn .
According to paper articles from the late 1800's, there was some sort of scandal, Edward committed suicide at age 32, and Adele was left with my grandfather, Charles Nye Fearing, age 4, and his sister, who was older. At some point, we think when my grandfather was around 21, Adele left for the Breesport area and married Deering. Strangely, my grandfather never mentioned Adele, his own mother, to my mother, or to us kids. My grandfather died in 1953, when I was only 15. I wish that I had asked him about Adele.
The question is, how can we find out more about Adele's life in Breesport, and who was James Deering? We are unable to find any records of him, and do not know whether James and Adele had any children. Can you shed any light on this, or give me any pointers?
Dear Joyce:
I am doing my family tree and I always get stuck at Harriet Pedrick
Adee the first name in your cemetery list. I had thought her father was
Josiah Pedrick and I know she had a brother named Josiah. I'm trying to
tie her in with John S. and John W. Can anybody help me?
Thanks
Doug Williams

Hello Joyce,
I knew I'd never find it in public record but 'someone' someplace had
the information on her exact birth date. I have it in my book,
Decendants of William Lain & Kaziah Mather also. I was 'hoping" (
know a high hope) that someone might have some kind of documentation of
her or know if born in PA or NY as all census's say NY but all other
references say Daggett Mills or Daggett.. NY! (Of course there's no
such place) lol .
I think I'll have to follow the lead more in Michigan as that's where she moved with her father.. but her and David moved back to the Tri-Counties area although I'll be darned I can find them for sure. Their children are all over the place there. You're right about all the nooks and crannies to the site. I seem to come across something else or another relative every time I go looking on it. Of interest, the Wells Twp. historian wrote me and said that yes, Daggett and Daggett Mills are two different places about a mile apart. That there's a historical marker for Daggett Mills about a mile from Daggett. He also mentioned that in many books and references they are usually lumped together as the same place. You have such a wonderful site. The people on this mailing list are great! It's the only list like this I've ever joined due to so many spam issues and to much e-mail. The users sure make the difference.
Thanks again for such a wonderful site and I hope to soon have more
personal letters and stories from the correspondence between my
grandparents and various relatives in the area from the 1950's-1970's.
I need to get my mother to photo copy them and send to me. They contain
a wealth of information about various people and different families in
the area.
Take care,
Darla Stimbert

Good Evening Joyce, I am looking for any information about my Great grandfather name of Arthur Stanley McKinney. He married Sarah Searles April 10, 1857. ( I have a photo copy of their marriage certificate.) They were both from Elmira , Chemung County, New York. The certificate is signed by Daniel (last name illegible) Minister of the Gospel. The two witness names are also unreadable (at least by me) Mr. McKinney must have died for I have a photo copy of another marriage certificate of a marriage between Sarah Searles McKinney and Arden Austin both of Erin Chemung County New York dated September 3 , 1865. The service was performed by P. M. Grimes, minister of the Gospel; and witnessed by - - Bell and P. C. Grimes.
My grandfather was named for the above Arthur Stanley McKinney and may have had a younger brother named Nathan. I do not know where my grandfather was born, though I do know the date of his birth ; March 25, 1858. I've a silver teaspoon engraved with the initials SS that belonged to Sarah and I've seen old pictures of Mr. Austin, but as to where my great grandfather was born or when he died or where I've no clue and would certainly appreciate any information.
Family legend has it that my grandfather was the 5th generation in this country. They were supposed to be from Scotland and their date of arrival into the new world was about 1720. This 1st McKinney was an Arthur and according to a letter, written to my mother by a 2nd cousin, dated 1930, he settled on a farm close to Newburgh. I do wish that I had asked more questions. You may be sure if and when I get to heaven I shall ask a great many.
Thank you for your time. Yours truly Patsy (Patricia L Herndon)
Hi joyce I am interested in the geneology of Holly Snowburg of Snowburg road in Pine City.He was married to Ann and they had four children Holly Snowburg Jr., Alan Snowburg Christine Snowburg and Paul Snowburg
I admired your hard work to make it as possible. As I am doing the genealogical research on my Grandfather's birthplace Elmira, NY, Melville Wilkinson Dorn b. 9-21-1876 and died in Minneapolis, MN, 10-18-1965 as far I understood that his father was George Dorn worked at butter factory and his mother Georgette Wlkinson. I think it would be a best place to start. I had done my side of Kenney Family from Jo Daviss County, Ill. So I am open for suggestions and appreciate your time.

Thank you for your recent help. Mr. Farr sent me some information I had requested. He referred me back to you for this question. In regard to a soldier William H. Hill. I had questioned him of the possible availability of information regarding other researchers or family members inquiring about William H. Hill. Is there a possibility of some records where someone else may have attempted to research files of the prison or inquired about this soldier?
If this is the family member I researched, his last sibling died in 1941. I do have some evidence that a niece did join the Confederate Daughters with the record of one of his brothers, I also have an amnesty oath of another brother if this is the correct person.
If there is anything it would be really old. Did these prisons inform families of the deaths? Mr. Farr said Wm. H. Hill left no personal effects and that he died of pneumonia about 4 months after his arrival.
Just searching.
Thanks,
Johnny Young
Re: ONA MONELL
I've run across the name ONA MONELL several times in my attempts to find more information on my relatives, THE VANOVERS, Elmira, NY and THE WHTICOMBS, Lambs Creek, PA.
I have an address for Ona in Elmira. I also wonder if she is any relation to ONA CARR, another name that has popped up in my research.
Does anyone have any information on ONA MONELL?
Thank you,

Hi,
Daniel BLAKE, his wife, Loamai (?), and their 6 children were living in
Chemung County, Cayuta township in 1850. I am looking for a marriage
for Daniel and Loamai. I calculate they would have been married about
1835 and because Loamai was born in NY I think they were probably
married in NY. Would appreciate any info anyone can give me on this
family.
