For Four Days only - November 21 to Nov 24 (Midnight EST) you
may list the surnames you are searching on the Tri-County mail list.
PLEASE follow these guidelines. These are the same guidelines that
have been used in previously and we were very successful in following them.
Remember that at all other times surname listings and queries are
to be posted ONLY in the query system of the site and not on the mail list.
This process is implemented quarterly to give people the chance to post
names to the mail list for a limited and defined period of time. Remember
that this will only be seen by the subscribers to the mail list and will
not be seen by the many hundreds of other site guests who are not on the
mail list. That is the reason that your best long term results will come
through the site's query section, and not the mail list.
1a. Put the surnames in the subject line so that people don't have to
open your mail to see what you want. This will then show in the list of
mail we
receive and we can open only those that look interesting to us.
1b. PLEASE sign your own first and last name. Not doing so is very rude, although not always intentionally so, and is threatening to the receiver. Many people, myself included, will not respond to an unsigned message. ALSO Please spell CEMETERY correctly. This is one of the most misspelled words in the language, so make an effort to learn the correct spelling. There is not and never has been an A in Cemetery.
2. All responses should go to the individual who sent the note and NOT back to the list. If you are in Digest mode do NOT hit the reply to button as that will send it back to the mail list and not to her person.
3. Please list only surnames for which you are searching in any of the
three counties covered by this site. This is not a general surname search.
It is
limited to our geographic area ONLY.
4. Please include relevant dates in your query and the specific townships
where your ancestry occurred. Don't just tell us you are looking for the
Browns in one of our counties. The more specific information you include,
the more valuable the responses you will receive.
5. The process will stop after Sunday evening and all who continue after
that time will be referred back to the query system as I do now. This is
not
to replace the query system, but is a temporary feature to get your
surnames out there. You are still encouraged to put your queries and surname
listings in the query system where they will have long lasting, and not
just temporary, exposure.
6. Keep this note in your mail box to refer to it if you forget the guidelines
7. IF you all follow the guidelines that have been suggested here, I
will consider doing this on a regular basis, say every four months. But
ONLY if it
stays structured and under control and within the guidelines stated.
If the mail list gets overloaded by people responding to the list and not
the
individual, we will not be able to do it again. The query system is
set up to include all responses, but the mail list, with 850 subscribers,
can't handle
it.
8. I will follow this posting with a sample surname listing to show you what I mean by putting surnames in the subject line.
9. If you have questions about this, ask me and not the list. If I find
several asking the same questions, I'll post a response for all to the
mail
list.
Good luck, Joyce M. Tice
