Hi:
The surnames I am studying are, Robinson/Robertson, Stroup, Ward. My
great grandfather was Abraham Robinson, lived Burlington Twp., Bradford
Co. He married Celinda Baily and they had several children. Would like to
find the parentage of Abraham. He is my brick wall and I just can't seem
to find the loose brick to bring the wall down. One census states he was
born in Scotland and another census states PA but no idea where in PA. The
1840 census shows him in Burlington Township, already married with a
child. Scottish naming customs are similar to Dutch, meaning the oldest
child named for the father's father. That being the case his father should
be named Jeremiah. I have found Jeremiah's living in Potter Co. but don't
place them in the Bradford Co. area.
One of Abraham's children was named Horace. A popular name since there
are more than one. My Horace (my grandad) married Clara Stroup, the
daughter of Joseph Stroup and Fanny Ward. Horace and Clara moved around a
bit finally settling in Potter Co. Hiram and Harrison, also children of
Abraham and Celinda, moved to Potter Co., as well. John was killed in the
civil war and a daughter Orpha moved to NY. Any information would be of
great help. Thanks for your time.

Hello all,
I am doing some "sideline" research on the MITTENS who married into my
MORROW line and would like to correspond with anyone who has information or
pictures of the following or their families.
Fred MITTEN was born about 1865. His father James MITTEN was born in Ireland in 1815 and was a successful farmer in Herrick township. James is probably buried in Ballibay Cemetery, Herrick township. Fred's mother was Eliza J. ________? born about 1819 in Ireland, and she bore eleven children. In 1923, when Fred was about 58 years old, he was elected the Sheriff of Bradford County and continued as Sheriff until he died in 1 Oct 1925.
When Fred died, his able wife Mary Jane (MORROW) MITTEN became Sheriff. It is said that she was the FIRST FEMALE SHERIFF in Pennsylvania. She was born 12 Aug 1873 and died 22 Jan 1938. She had five children, one of whom was Hamilton Frederick MITTEN who became a High School Principal in Nebraska. Another son, William Newton MITTEN became President of the Stephens National Bank of Fremont Nebraska. Both are listed in Who's Who in Nebraska, 1940.
I am especially interested in the two SHERIFFs and hope you know more about them. (Anyone have their obituary's???)
THANK YOU.

John McKINNEY born abt 1798 NY, d. 1854 Veteran, Tioga (later Chemung) Co, NY, and wife Prudence COOK abt 1786 DE, d. 1868. John may have had a brother Matthew. I strongly suspect they were from Orange Co, NY.
I suspect Prudence was older, widowed with children. 1820 US census Catharine, Tioga Co, NY (later Chemung, now Schuyler) McKINGEY, John - 3 boys under 10, a male 26-45, 2 females under 10, one 10-16, a female 26-45.
We only know of three children's names, all McKinney: John who died young,
Alice, and Augustus. Up at Veteran they always lived next to surname MILLSPAUGH
Milspaugh Millspaw. Was that her elder children's surname or did a daughter
Jane marry Stephen? Both families are buried at Coe Cemetery, now Schuyler Co.
Prudence died at Elmira and was taken to "Johnson Settlement", an earlier name
for Catharine, for burial per obituary, thus hers is a "lost burial" there.

Elizabeth SHOEMAKER b 1803 PA (I suspect minisink/Delaware River) married 1820s
to Sacket HILL b. 1799 NY. They were first named on the census 1830 Cayuta,
Tioga (later Chemung) Co US, NY with the first 3 small boys. In the census
bracket to 1830 Cayuta, Tioga, NY there was only John Shoemaker.
Nearby in Erin were Abram/Abraham and Isaac Shoemaker. I've found who their children were - not my Elizabeth's parents. Both may be brothers to John.
That leaves John Shoemaker (Johannes SCHOONMAKER) by default. I have only identified an adopted child Catharine SPEER Shoemaker as being John's and Phebe DECKER's, but on censuses prior to 1830 they had other children. My Elizabeth? What others? I found a Phebe Shoemaker in Swartwood Cemetery who may have been a daughter to John and Phebe. I sure would like to see a will, too!

Hi: I need a little help in my search attempt. My GGrandfather was a physician and operated a drug store in Elmira, 1872 1897. A long search located his grave monument in Woodlawn cemetery with the date "1897" and a Masonic emblem, the names on one child and his wife. I have overlooked something in the search and would appreciate any ideas where to look next. I have searched the following and got negative results:
1. Family historian records 2. Queries on several genealogy websites 3. Ancestors, LDS, WFT and other websites 4. Wrote or talked to known relatives 5. Wrote to local and state Masonic secretaries 6. Read Elmira news papers for 1897 7. Checked Chemung county vital records 8. Checked New York State records 9. Checked Binghamton Psychiatric Hospital Records 10. Bradford county records-in case he died at Robert Packer 11.Searched Directory of Deceased American Physicians 12. Checked Woodlawn cemetary records
How does a prominent person just disappear. Help is appreciated.

Horton Researchers:
I am still researching for anyone researching the families of James
Horton, DOB: 1797, Schuyler Horton, DOB: 1803, John, Thomas and Sally
Horton, all siblings, who moved from Warwick, Orange County, New York,
to the Roseville area of Tioga County, Pennsylvania, around 1830 and
1840.
My good intentions were to make a trip to the Tioga County area this Fall and follow the leads I received from several kind members of this list. Due to family circumstances, I could not make the trip this Fall. I hope to make the trip next spring.

Painted Post, Steuben County, NY
I have been extracting the 1810 Smithfield Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania census that is now Bradford County comprising the townships of Columbia, Ridgebury, South Creek, Springfield, Smithfield, and Wells.
The enumerates are alphabetized and in the K's is a name that I cannot read which would appear to be K___ey Burm___. I have gone through the index of Pioneer and Patriot Families of Bradford County and the 1813 taxables for those townships in an effort to determine who that person was with no success.
At the end of the R's there is tape over two names. I have determined that the first is Shubel Rowley who resided in Wells Township but I have no idea who the last name is.
In the S's the second to the last name I thought might be Stevens, but it does not appear to be and I took my copy from Ancestry.com which has a Myfamily.com stamp over this name.
Can anyone offer any assistance?
It is interesting comparing the names on this census with the dates of arrival for many of these early settlers cited in Pioneer and Patriot Families and in several instances the arrival date is cited incorrectly. For instance there are those cited as coming in 1812, 1813 and yet they were already here and enumerated in 1810 and then there are those that were cited as being here before 1810 but they do not appear on the 1810 census and can be found still enumerated elsewhere before their arrival here.
