Hi Paul,
See obit below for Martha Ann Kinner who had a grandson Albert Seeley.
Albert Seeley b. 1822 Wells resided in Hammond Creek Valley in Wells Township between Millerton and the state line on place where Rev. Egbert Roosa began, m. 10 Jan 1846 Martha Ann Kinner b. c. 1826 daughter of William Kinner and Patience Miller of Jackson Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
Albert Seely, an old time resident of this section whose homestead is located near State Line, died at the Home for the Aged in Elmira Tuesday afternoon April 5th, aged 78 years. Mr. Seely was at one time manager of the Home for the Aged but resigned the position and returned to his home a few years ago in the spring of 1901, becoming an inmate of the same institution. His disease was cancer of the stomach and he was ill about two months. He was a man of strict honesty and integrity and was universally honored and esteemed. He leaves a wife and son, William H. Seely. The funeral was held in Elmira Thursday at two o'clock p.m.; burial in Woodlawn Cemetery (Millerton Advocate, Millerton, Pennsylvania - undated obituary from scrapbook collection).
Mrs. Martha Kinner Seeley's death occurred in Elmira Wednesday, October 16, 1912 at the age of 86 years. She was the daughter of Patience Miller and William Kinner and the wife of the late Albert Seeley, whose death preceeded her's eight years. She leaves one son, William Seeley; a grand daughter, Mrs. Martha Seeley Strong, and two grandsons, Albert and Charles Seeley. Mrs. and Mrs. Seeley were residents of Seeley Creek (so named for the Seeley family) where they spent most of their lives upon their farm, where they lived, loved and toiled for those who were near and dear to them and dispensed charity for those less fortunate than themselves, for their hearts and hands were ever open to the needy and their doors to the friendless. One can hardly think of Mrs. Seeley without in the same moment thinking of Mr. Seeley also, so close was the companionship of husband and wife and the time that bound them so dear that when adversity came and failing strength to them with their weight of years, they were thankful that they had been spared to one another and bravely without a murmur turned from the pleasant home, the wide spreading fields, where they had planted and garnered for many seasons that were their's no longer and took the pittance that was left and entered the Home for the Aged as inmates where they at one time served as matron and superintendent. Mr. and Mrs. Seeley did not live in vain although they were not successful from a wordly point of view. What a grand reward there must be now and one can almost hear "Well done, thou good and faithful come up higher." Mrs. Seeley won the love of all and in her sweet face was mirrored the grand character within. When the life clouds, which were many, were the darkest and her heart torn with anguish, there was ever the same calm exterior, giving hope and strength for the help of others. Yes, a beautiful earth life ended when Martha Kinner Seeley closed her eyes here and entered into the rest that she had been longing for through the many long wearly months of illness. She had devoted care of a loving granddaughter and kind attendance of other friends but she gradually drifted away from our shore to the "Bright Forever". Just as she was about to cross the sunset bar, a friend took her hand saying "you will soon have a happy meeting for Mr. Seeley is awaiting you upon the other shore," and although suffering so she could not speak she pressed the hand that held hers and smiled, happy that God's call was near. The following was written by Miss Maria Bennett, a blind and aged lady of the Home for the Aged, while Mrs. Seeley was matron: May God reward you for your care Always will be my humble prayer. Rich blessings may his hand bestow Through all life's hours where 'er you go. His word is faithful, kind and true, All that is promised He will do. And when this mortal life shall end New pleasures He will still extend. Such lovely treasures as He'll show Eternal joys with heavenly peace, Life that will never feel decline Each soul will in His image shine. Yes, God's image all divine.
Children:
1. William H. Seeley b. 15 Apr 1847 (Southport vital record).
2. D. M. Seely (daughter) b. c. 1850 d. young and was not enumerated with
the family in 1860.
I would suggest Woodlawn Cemetery to see if William H. Seeley has a burial lot and if son Albert Seeley is buried there or elsewhere in the cemetery. If Albert is not buried there and William H. is, an obituary in the Elmira newspapers may determine if Albert was still living when William died. You can telephone or write Woodlawn and they will answer.

Reuben Horton appears on the 1810 census of Smithfield, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania from which Wells Township, Bradford County was formed. Reuben Horton and Joseph Powell acquired the third farm from the state line in the Seeley Creek Valley, which the sheriff conveyed to James Seeley, 27 Mar 1824. Reuben appears on the first assessment of 1812-13. On the 1816 assessment his property had transfered to John Mapes.

These are my mystery names, and not necessarily related to each other.
Allen H. FOUNTAIN was born ca 1858, and died 3 May 1904; he is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, Chemung County, New York in the John H. SHAW plot. I believe he lived in Elmira most, if not all, his life.
Olive J. FOUNTAIN (presumably the wife of the above) was born ca 1847 and died 16 January 1917; she is also buried in the John H. SHAW plot in Woodlawn Cemetery. I believe she lived in Elmira.
Mary A. HYDE (husband possibly named Abraham) was born ca 1823; died 30 June 1890; she is buried in same plot and same cemetery. It is believed she lived in Elmira.
Elizabeth S. TRAINER, born ca 1889; died 13 September 1916, buried in same plot, same cemetery. And, I believe she lived in Elmira.
Thank you for your help.

Stephen Bates b. 1756-1765 (of age 26 and under age 45 on the 1800 census and over age 45 on 1810 census). Enumerated in Wysox Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania in 1800 and in Smithfield Township (included present Columbia, Ridgebury, Springfield, Smithfield, South Creek, and Wells Townships), Lycoming County, Pennsylvania in 1810 and appears on the 1812-13, and 1814 Wells (included present South Creek and a part of Ridgebury Townships) assessment lists. Stephen perhaps resided in what is now Wells Township and perhaps was related to Amos Bates. Wife b. 1775-84.
1. daughter b. 1796-1800. 2. son b. 1801-10. 3. daughter b. 1801-10. 4. daughter b. 1801-10.
Amos Bates m. Nancy Cooper daughter of Richard Cooper, a Revolutionary Soldier of Wells. Amos first appears on the 1815 assessment list and he may be the Aaron Bates on the 1814 assessment list. Amos does not appear in 1818, 1819, and 1820, but again appears in 1821. Enumerated in Wells in 1820. Parents of "poor children" on the assessment lists, unable to pay for their schooling. They resided in Wells for a few years and then on the 1827 assessment list there is a notation that Amos Bates "had removed" and his property was transfered to Uriah Lucas.
1. son b. 1805-10. 2. daughter b. 1805-10. 3. daughter b. 1805-10. 4. Emaline Bates b. c. 1813. 5. Lydia Bates b. c. 1814. 6. Francis Bates b. c. 1816. 7. Amos Bates, Jr., b. c. 1818.
Possibly Sarah Ann Bates was a daughter of Amos and Nancy and she m. William Goff b. c. 1802 son of Solomon and Huldah Goff, enumerated 1830 census of Wells and in Granger, Medina County, Ohio in 1840. William d. 20 Nov 1844 Illinois.

Hi All,
I am seeking information on Asa MILLER who married Mary Ann COON in Bradford County in 1843. Asa had evidently been married previously as there were two older children, Daniel and Elizabeth. Mary Ann was the daughter of Nathan COON. Nathan's son, Nathan, married Anna RUTTY. Asa, Mary Ann and Nathan, Sr. moved to DeKalb County, Illinois. Any information would be greatfully received.

I am interested in John Wightman who married Jane Russell in Arnot, Pa on Jul 4, 1872 in the Presbyterian Church there. This info is on the site in the marriage records of same. I would like to prove or disprove if this is my husband's GGG Grandmother and Step Grandfather. The background for this query is this; John Wylie and his wife, Jean ( Jane, Jennie, Janet, Jennette) Russell Wylie, came from Fifeshire Scotland from Glasgow into New York Port on March 12, 1868. With them was their 3 children, Janet aged 4 years old, David aged 2 years old, and John aged under 1 year old. John's parents, David and Isabella Rollo Wylie were also on the ship with some of their other children, MaryAnn and son- Peter, Robert, Andrew, and Jessie. They went to Barclay Mountain and the men worked in the mine. In May, we have 3 pieces of evidence that lead us to believe that Jean's husband, John, was killed in the Barclay mine. #1 There is a stone marker still in the cemetery with simpl! y the initials, JW on it. #2 The 1870 census for Barclay has Jennie Wiley ( the entire family spelled the name all sorts of ways) with the 3 children living in Barclay and she is listed as a widow. In 1880, son David is living in Liberty with Grandmother, Isabella who by that time was widowed. Jennie Wiley and the other two children aren't listed in Barclay or in Pennsylvania on the index. This is when I found the above mentioned marriage listed. For those of you who believe in the genealogy "feelings"- When I visited Tioga county for the first time, it was before the road was changed. As I traveled down rte 15 toward Liberty, I had the strangest feeling that I should turn onto the road that leads to Arnot. I didn't then, but did on my way back toward NY. I was driving around Arnot and there really isn't a lot to see there but I was drawn to the Presbyterian Church with the feeling that there was something there for me. Of course I couldn't get in and shortly after that, Joyce had the records from that church on line. There are some things listed in these records that I know belong to our family. I just have a strong feeling about this marriage record. #3 I found a brief death announcement in the Elmira Advocate for May 1868 that reads" A man by the name of Wiley was crushed to death by the falling of a rock in the Barclay mine last Tuesday" In Scotland, woman often maintain their maiden names and if not, they sometimes resume them if they are widowed. So, it isn't outside of the realm of possibility that Jane Russell is the same Jean Russell Wylie.
The plot thickens- In 1891, John and Jean's son, David, married Elizabeth Harvey in Frugality, Pa. They had two children there and in 1896, they had a child in Wellington, British Columbia, Canada. Records revealed that David worked in the mines there for about a year, then they had another child in Frugality, Pa again. ? if possibly, Jean and John Wightman moved to Canada and David and Elizabeth followed later.
Here is where the George family come in. Isabella Rollo Wylie had a son whose name is David George. He married Cecelia Anderson in Scotland and they had several children there; Elizabeth born in 1858, David born in 1859, Isabella born in 1862, John born in 1864, Drummond born in 1866, James Bruce born in 1869, and Robert born in 1871 in Pennsylvania. In 1870, David George is listed with his parents on the census in Liberty, Pa. In 1880, David George is listed with Cecelia in Canton, Pa. Cecelia is buried in Dubois, Pa. In 1900, David is living with son, Robert, in the Philadelphia, Pa area. David and Cecelia's daughter, Elizabeth married a man with the last name- HALL. They had at least one child, Isabella, who never married and took care of her Aunt Isabella and her Mother in Los Angeles, Cal. That home actually was owned by Aunt Isabella. Aunt Isabella married a man with the last name- Jeffcott. She lived in Portland, Oregon until her older years when she ! went back to her home in California. Drummond George lived in Seattle, Washington and died there. His son, Drummond was married to a Winifred and they lived in Seattle as well. Drummond the Elder died there in 1932ish.
The David and Isabella Wylie Family had a reunion this past summer. Of David and Isabella's 8 children, 6 lines were represented. In 2 years when we have another reunion, we hope to find David and Cecelia Georges family and David and Isabella's son- Robert's line. Robert was still single in 1890 when his name is on some real estate papers. After that, who knows. If anyone is interested or has any information about this family, please contact me. It would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou, Pam Wylie

Jere married Margaret A. Chamberlain and left the Catholic Church. I have some of Jere's descendants—Edward D., (b. 1859, Port Jervis, NY d. 1922 Merrill, WI) was the oldest. He had 2 sisters one of whom married a Kelly and lived in PA. Brothers included George, Michael, John, Daniel—maybe more.
Edward's surviving children were Daisy Adele Ryan (m. Elliot Mole, lived in NY) and Leslie Edward Ryan.
I also have an obit for a Mary Ryan of Athens that I found on Joyce's site. Unfortunately there is no date or newspaper cited but there is a listing of her siblings, some of whom my mother remembers. Mary was a cousin of Edward's.

We have a a copy of an Athens Twp. quit claim deed from Marlea Rice Warren to the effect that heirs of Levi Rice - "Mary, Polly, Eunice, Silas and Harley" conveyed land to Abisha M. Rice 1818.
(That land is situated east of the Sayre Lockhart St. Bridge over the South Branch of the Susquehanna River .)
This Levi is on the 1808 and 1812 Athens tax lists.
We suspect that the above Levi is the Levi Rice b 13 Apr 1760/1761 in Brookfield, Worcester Co., MA and son to Ephraim Rice and Thankful Walker. Our conjecture as to this relationship is based on a very slim statement provided by the Edmund Rice Association to wit: "Tis said he settled in Penn. and had a large family of children."
Looking for confirmation/refutation of above...added info.

I am very interested in finding out why Ursula CLARK is buried with Charles and Altheda Bennett (Names inscribed on the same Bennett stone) . Believe that she is a possible sister of either Charles or Altheda and possibly married to a Clark prior to the Watkins marriage. Interesting the stone has her name as Clark and not Watkins. Any information on Altheda's surname is also greatly appreciated. (My speculation is that she is the daughter of John & Hannah Bennett) I have all the census records, death info, etc...but still no surname...Charles is the son of Harvey Bennett, and have no information on who his wife was either. Thanks for any help concerning these families John Blair

Hi All,
What is the connection between Chenago county Mathewson and Mathewsons in
the northern Tier of PA, especially those around Factoryville, PA?
A family hand-me-down is that we are somehow related to the Factoryville, Mathewsons. I have not been able to make any connection.
But, I recently have discovered my great grandmother, Harriet Coolbaugh, was probably adopted. I fShe was found in the family of Nancy Dymond and William Coolbaugh. Harriet was born 24 March 1847, I don't know where. Her husband, my great grandfather Anthony Lloyd, lived a number of years in Chenango county, NY, but after his first wife died, he wound up in PA, and married Harriet in 1877.
I'm just grasping at the straw: "is it possible Harriet was born a Mathewson?" Anybody got a Harriet who disappared?
Thanks for any help,
Bruce Lloyd
