I am searching the Tri-County areas for assistance in finding my Ireland born relatives the LANE families. My great grandfather, Patrick LANE was born in 1830; my great grandmother, Mary O'DONNELL was born in 1832, or 1833?. I believe the LANES may have been married in 1853; in Queenstown, Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada. The had at least (9) nine children; the oldest child Eliza LANE, was born in Canada, in 1854. My great grandmother Sara LANE, (the 3rd oldest child), was born in 1858, in Elmira, New York; (Chemung County.) She married John ROGERS; born in Ireland, he was born in 1872.
I found the LANES in the 1870 New York, Federal Census; in the Township of South Port; in the County of Chemung (New York.) I, also found the LANES in the 1880, Pennsylvania, Federal Census; they are living in the Township of Delmar; in the County of Tioga, Pennsylvania. I just recently found on the Joyce M. Tice website, a record of Baptism; the nineth child, Patrick LANE, was baptized on August 3rd, 1873; baptized in St. Mary's Church, in Elmira, New York. He was born on July 10th, 1873; (exact location unknown at this time?)
I greatly appreciate the Joyce M. Tice website, and greatly appreciate any assistance anyone can offer me in my research. Thank You.
According to records in the Tioga County Court House, my G-G-Grandfather, William Vanzile, was born in Vermont to Henry Vanzile and Ruth Vanzile on 3/15/1810 and Interred in Roseville, PA, Watson Cemetery 6/27/1898. The State of Vermont has no records of Henry or Ruth, any suggestions where I can continue tracing the Vanzile's from Vermont?
Thanks, LaRue VanZile, Williamsport, PA
PS: I met some people from Holland last year who said they know people there with the spelling Vanzyl.
Will appreciate any information regarding the family of Ebenezer R. GARRISON, who lived near Lawrence PA in Tioga county around 1880-1900. His wife, Cordelia, died sometime between that period. They had a daughter, Helen, born in 1880. Would like to learn what happened to her.
Thanks for any help offered. Audrey

FULLER, Curtis P.
I just received a copy of the Civil War Pension file for Curtis P. FULLER,
son of Alanson FULLER and and unknown first wife who may be my ancestor rather
than his 2nd wife Jane BARDWELL. New information as a result of this pension:
Curtis was born 25 Sept 1829 in Springfield Twp., Bradford County and lived
there until 04 July 1870 when he moved to Lambs Creek, Richmond Twp., Tioga
County, PA. He married Arintha M. MOORE in Springfield, Bradford County on 24
Dec. 1850. He died 06 Sept 1891 in Lambs Creek and his wife Arintha died 25 Jan
1908, same place. What I need now is more information about his parents,
especially his Mother.. I have no idea who she was; I need something from an
obit, a death register or anything else that would tell me what I need to know
to help me determine if Lydia FULLER who md. my Thomas Haven AMES was a sister
or a step sister of Curtis P. so that I can chase the correct woman (I have
gotten nowhere on Jane BARDWELL). From census I have seen children of Curtis
and Arintha listed as: George, Alvah and Ida. Have found nothing further on
them, either.

Kathy,
I happened upon your query on the Tri-Counties Genealogy & History Site by
Joyce M. Tice for Tioga County, while checking to see if my possibly related
query, which I sent a couple of weeks ago has been posted (which it hasn't
yet).
I would be very grateful if you could help me sort out the various "George Kohler"s from this area (I'm guessing that most, if not all, of the Kohlers were related to one another to varying extents...for example, it seems likely that Conrad and Philip were brothers, in light of the cross-talk among their children's names, but the Census data suggest to me they may have arrived in what became Liberty at different times). This is a fantastic research site, and I have only just begun to compile and sort through the KOHLER-related data there. What I've distilled so far is contained in the attached Word file (please excuse the uneven editing), which I hope will be of some use to you (it contains the URLs for the source pages on Joyce's site).
If it happens that you are related to Nina B. Kohler (daughter of my gg-Grandfather...and, by inference, to me!), then it may interest you to know that she was quite distinguished, having twice (1912, 1914) won the championship of the Women's Southern Golf Association (WSGA).

I have found some information to help me with my family history. I think the
information posted is very valuable, but I was wondering if you know anything

Adney West who was born in PA Feb. 1 1870. His parents are George W. West (b.
1818 NY) and Abigail (Ritter) West (b. ~1826 NY). I found the West family in
the 1850 and 1860 census you have posted, but I will have to locate the 1870 census.

LAFFERTY/BARTON
Hello folks,
I am looking for any help with the family of JOHN LAFFERTYand his wife
PHOEBE BARTOO/BARTON. John was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. He filed for
pension through the courthouse at Wellsborough, in 1818. By 1821 he had moved to
New York State living in Cattaraugus County. One of the places mentioned in the
Pension file was CANOE CAMP.
John and Phoebe had 10 children. Also a grandchild LUCY BRUCE/BRICE is mentioned in the pension file and at the time of filing was 4 years old and living with her grandparents.
I have information to share on descendants, but am looking for hopefully a birth place for John, or where he might have been living prior to the pension filing! He was born January 1, 1755. I also have birthdates available for his wife and all of the children.
Please reply to cbarber@wrkcs.net.
Thank you all for your time!

Hi Joyce,
While doing some research, I stumbled across your Tri-Counties Genealogy site.
I think you have done a wonderful job and you should be praised for your
outstanding accomplishment. My research involves Martin John(s) [abt 1765 -
1847] who is considered to be the progenitor of many of the John/Johns families
of Western Pennsylvania. There appear to be many Johns families in the
Tri-County area and I'm curious if there is any relationship. The acid test
seems to be this. Martin John was of German descent - his original surname is
reported to be Johannes. If a John or Johns family is of German extraction,
then the family is probably related to the family I am researching. If the John
or Johns family is of Welsh or English descent, then the family is probably
unrelated. My questions are these: (1) Have you ever encountered the name
Martin John? And if so, is there a relationship to the Johns families of the
Tri-County area? (2) Are the Johns families of the Tri-County area of German,
Welsh or English origin? Thank you very much for your assistance.

Hi Joyce, you have a great site, thanks for putting the effort into it. It has been very helpful. Perhaps too helpful. J
I have a dilemma and I am writing to you for some guidance. I have been researching Keturah McCracken (21 Dec 1815 - 01 Oct 1858) who was born in NJ and according to the Latter Day Saints’ site and other sites, married James Stout Norris (JSN) on 12 Dec 1839 in Morris Co NJ. She is my wife’s gg-grandmother. Her parents and siblings moved from NJ to Liberty, Tioga County, PA in 1833. JSN appears in the census of 1850 living in NJ with his second wife, Elvira Clauson, and with his three young daughters born in 1843 and twins in 1845. I had understood the three girls were the daughters of Keturah. I had originally presumed she died prior to 1850, possibly at the time of the birth of her twin daughters in 1845.
I obtained some additional data that was a copied transcript of an article by George E. McCracken, Ph.D., F.A.S.G., P.G.S.P. American Genealogist Vol 60, Issue 2, April 1984 in which it is indicated:
“X111 THOMAS B. 24 May 1790, d. 5 Sept. 1868 (birth according to his tombstone in Morris ?Co., NJ, which is not impossible). He m. 24 Aug. 1815 RACHAEL BAIRD, B. 19 June 1793, d 23 Oct. 1872. It is their Bible which is now in the possession of Howard Norman.”
And in the same article it is indicated:
“Mrs. Ladd has supplied me with a copy of a Bible record now in the possession of Howard Norman of Liberty PA.”
I also received transcriptions of newspaper clippings of McCracken Family reunions in the Liberty area around 1900 that indicate Keturah married a Morris. At first I thought this a transcription error however there was Morrises at the reunions as well as some living siblings of Keturah who I presumed must have thought the Morrises were relatives. In reviewing the information on your site and other sources it is clear that a Keturah married a Rev. Joseph Morris and is buried in the Union Church Cemetery in Liberty where many of the NJ McCrackens who moved to Liberty are also buried. Thomas is also buried there ( Thomas McCracken 24 May 1790 - 1885) which indicates there may be some errors in the transcription. There are also some discrepancies in the censuses that lead to other questions such as in the 1840 census Joseph Morris’ wife is less than 20. In the 1850 census it shows “Kittura” age 33, born in PA, married to Joseph Morris. In other censuses her children indicate their mother was born in PA rather than NJ. Whereas the other McCrackens appear to correctly show who was born in NJ and who in PA.
I am pursuing the data that indicates Keturah married James Stout Norris on 12 Dec 1839 in Morris Co NJ. I am also trying to see what other information may be available in Liberty. Some of the data on your site is attributed to a Rhoda English Ladd. I though she might be the Mrs. Ladd referenced above. I did a search and did not find a street address for her but did find information which indicated if still alive, she would be 89 and therefore maybe no longer be active in genealogy. I did a similar search for Howard Norman. Again no street address but in this case found he would be 98. My question is do you know Mrs. Ladd and how I might approach her or whoever may have her records? And the same with respect to Mr. Norman?
My third question is: I had sent an email to Dick McCracken on 31 Dec of last year without hearing from him. I note he has not been active on the message boards lately and since he also has contributed to your site wondered if you also knew him or how I might contact him. The email addresses I used were rjm001@myfamily.com and rjm001@epix.net
Lastly, my wife and I are fairly new to this having only started to look for our ancestors in Oct of last year and we live in TX and so are doing this long distance. If you have any other suggestions as to how we might resolve this apparent contradicting information, we certainly would be interested in them.
Again, Thanks for a great site, Mike.

I am kindly looking for connections to William W. PERRY, who is enumerated in 1830, 1840, and 1850 censuses as follows:
1830 Big Flats, Chemung County, NY William PERRY, age 40-50 female, age 40-50 five males and one female, all under 20, listed as well
1840 Tioga Township, Tioga County, PA William PERRY, age 50-60 female, age 40-50 two males and one female, all under 15, listed as well
1850 Tioga Township, Tioga County, PA Wm. W. PERRY, age 63, born New Jersey B.R. [Burton R.] PERRY, age 19, born PA Nathaniel PERRY, age 47, born New York
I find Burton R. PERRY (spelled Perrey), age 29, listed in the 1860 Middlebury Township, Tioga County, PA census, with wife Charlotte SHORT, age 21, and children Edwin, age 4, and Emily, age 1 month. The family migrated to Fenton, Genesee County, Michigan, from which Burton and Charlotte operated a hotel, and from where Burton served in the Civil War (10th Michigan Cavalry, Company L). Burton and Charlotte are enumerated in the 1870, 1880, and 1900 Genesee County, Michigan censuses. I am descended from their son, Edwin.
According to plot book of the Fairview Cemetery (Linden, Michigan), in which Burton and Charlotte are buried, his father's name was William PERRY, and mother's name was Polly CASTLE.
I would be delighted to hear from anyone researching PERRY or CASTLE surnames in the tri-county area, or from anyone who thinks they have a connection to this line.
Thank you kindly,

I've just discovered from the 1880 census that my ancestor and her second husband had emigrated to the united states and were living in Arnot, Tioga, Pennsylvania. If anyone could tell me anything about them, such as the date of the death, i'd be very grateful. I can pass on information about her life prior to emigration, and her descendants by her first marriage to John Preston.

Dear Joyce
What a web site you have. I have spent many of late nights just reading.
Some of the stories are amazing what people had to go thru back then. I have to
thank you and other researchers, for I have found most of geneology on your site.
My line is Peterson, Corey, Pallone, Johns, and Ludington. I have found most of
the Johns and Ludington's and part of the Peterson's (thanks to your web site).
I am writing because I am searching for the Corey's, Pallone's and my grandmother's
brothers and sisters on the Johns side. My grandmother was Beatrice Johns
daughter of Samuel Edward and Bertha Marie Johns. Bertha passed away in 1926
of a ruptured appendix. My grandmother was around 8 years old at the time.
Samuel remarried a lady named Julia. My mother tells me that she had a brother.
They lived on the farm at Mitchell Creek.
My grandmother Beatrice Johns married Dominic Pallone. I don't know when.
Beatrice Johns was born 4/10/1918 and died in 1992. Dominic was born in 1916
and past away around 1984. Dominic's father is Angelo Pallone. He came to
america in the early 1900's. Angelo married a lady by the last name of Cook.
Her first husband was killed working on the railroad. She had 3 children prior
to the marriage and they had 6 more children. And that is all I know at the
moment on that.
On the Corey side. My grandmother on my daddy's side is Ada Virginia Corey born
1/1/1903 in PA. Daddy says they are from the Elkland PA area. She married
Raymond Leslie Peterson Sr. (my Daddy is Raymond Leslie Peterson Jr.) around
1920. Raymond Sr is a son of LeGrand Peterson. I am told that Ada's parents
names were Horace and Ada Corey. And that she also had a brother by the name
of Horace. I can't find any trace of them. I have gone to the library and
searched the census for Tioga County PA. When Ada Virginia married my grandfather
they moved to Elmira Heights NY. I did find them in the Census for 1930.
If you have any information on these I would appreciate the help. Thank you for everything you and the researchers have done. Keep up the good work.
Sincerely,
Lori Richards
Blossburg/Morris Run/Fall Brook/Arnot William WATCHMAN at age 20 arrived in Blossburg in 1847, a miner from Lanark County, Scotland. Catherine Bernea CAMERON at age 16 arrived in 1848 with her parents Peter & Ann Cameron and eight siblings from the same parish in Scotland. William & Catherine were married in Blossburg in 1849. They are my great grandparents and had 12 children. From 1847-1874 they moved with the mines and helped to establish Presbyterian churches: 1853 in Blossburg (and children Thomas, Peter 1st , Anna, William), 1856 in Morris Run (and children James Cameron, David), 1861 in Fall Brook (and children Peter 2nd, Bess Richardson, Kathryn Bernea, Belle Richardson my grandmother), and 1868 in Arnot (and children Roxanna, Christine P.) In 1874 they leave the church in Arnot and by Census of 1880 are in Houtzdale, Clearfield Co., Pennsylvania.
The delightful TriCounties website has been a wonderful source of data. Would greatly enjoy sharing data with any other persons interested in the WATCHMAN and CAMERON families. There are apparently still descendants of Judge David Watchman in Wellsboro.

Hi-

TILLINGHAST, WILSON
William TILLINGHAST the son of Charles and Jerusha (Hatfield) TILLINGHAST. William first married Amelia WILSON the daughter of George B. WILSON and Sarah WILSON
I am seeking is information on what happend to William and the children after Amelia's death August 6, 1880 buried at Millerton Cemetery, Jackson Twp, Tioga Co., Pa
The children were young.
Harry Clayton TILLINGHAST b. December 23, 1865
Buren Jay TILLINGHAST b. abt 1870
Etta TILLINGHAST b. May 05, 1878
In Amelia's Obit is states that Her husband and children are desolate. They have the unfeigned sympathy of the whole community. That is all it says about her family.
They had a 300 acre dairy farm in Lawrenceville Twp., Tioga Co. PA I can't find any of them on the 1880 Census, and I can't even find the parents of William on the 1880 Census either, I believe his parents had a farm in Tioga Co., PA.
It was brought to my attention that the farm of Charles Tillinghast was abandoned the same year that William died in 1916, and I am wondering if William took over his father's farm. This is the farm where a newborn infant was found in the well of the well, of the abandoned farm of Charles Tillinghast.
William did remarry to Fanny Seely KOLB November 06, 1883 at the First Congregational Church of Elmira, Chemung Co., New York
William TILLINGHAST was master of the Millerton grange for two years.

We are looking for the record of the marriage of James NUGGET and Maria (Hannah Maria) MASON, also known as Marie or Hannah Marie ANDREWS, great grandparents of my wife, in the late 1960's or early 1870's in or near Antrim, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. The marriage ceremony most likely was conducted at an Anglican or Episcopal Church.
Thank you from Stanley P. Zuris
We are looking for a record of the birth of my wife's great grandmother, Marie MASON, also known as Hannah Marie MASON, in or near Antrim, Tioga County, Pennsylvania about 1840. We believe her parents emigrated from England and died early in her childhood and that she may have been raised by foster parents named ANDREWS. We are uncertain whether her surname was MASON or ANDREWS, and so have sent two messages to the message board, using each surname. My wife's grandmother stated in her application for a Social Security number that her mother's name was Hannah Maria MASON and that her mother was born in Pennsylvania.
Thank you, from Stanley P. Zuris

Dear Tri-County researchers,
I would like to find another researcher who is following Sarah A. KULP
Kreger, b. abt. 1842 in the Liberty area, to Levi and Magdalena KULP.
Also, could someone advise me how I might access early Liberty church records? While I note there are some wonderful additions to the Liberty site by Esther Mays Harer, I need records slightly earlier to see if I can trace a MUTCH/MUTCHLER who married into the family. I understand they may be housed in Lycoming College in Williamsport. I hope someone knows of their existance. ???
I am most appreciative of any help anyone can give me. I love looking at the site and all the very helpful information there. What a lot of work many people have done! Thank you.

Hi...
My name is Michael Little and I am 14 years old...
My mom and her family are from westfield and knoxville...McLaughlin and Eaves and
Jones and Brown are her family names...
My dad and his family are from Sabinsville...Their names are Little, Smith, Burrell,
and Roberts...
I love your site...It is full of information on many people!
i found lots of stuff about the Roberts family...Mark, Luell, and Dennis...I have a
question, and although i doubt that you can help me,
Is there a way that i can find out for sure if George Roberts was the father
of Dennis?
One of the Paragraphs from your site was this:
A large two story building on South Main Street, originally built by
George W. Roberts and operated as a blacksmith and wagon shop, first by him and later
by Romaine Doty, was purchased by Luell J. Roberts and converted into a modern garage
and filling station. Since his death in 1945, it has been owned and operated by his son,
Mark J. Roberts.
This makes me think that maybe he (george) sold it to his grandson,
(Luell)...
Can you check this out for me?
Also...On your website, I used the tri-county search to look up the surname Little...
Because Little is a common english word, it brought up nothing of a surname type...
Could you see if you have anything..?
Thanks for everything....
Michael

Hello Joyce,
I am looking for my great grand mother Elizabeth Holloran (or Holleran as I have
seen it both ways) She came to America in what I believe to be 1866 from Ireland. At
the time I think she was only 6 or 7. I have searched high and low to find her and I
cannot find her or any of that side of my family. The reason I am asking you is is that
you came up when I typed in "origins of Holloran" and I found out that her brother
William Holloran was born in Pa. in about 1876. I also know that Elizabeth or "Nappy"
married my great grandfather John Gilroy. I am somewhat able to trace other parts of the
family from about 1900 from there. I cannot seem to find out much of anything about her .
If there is any way that you might help I would be very appreciative.
Thank you Jeff
