Good morning!
It's been awhile since I contacted you
but I'm back working on my Godard/Goddard family which lived in Tioga County,
near Keeneyville in the 1850-60's and married into the Keeney family three
times. I was looking at your web site last night and I am amazed and impressed
at the quantity of information you've made available. Great job!
I did find one relative that I had previously thought of as lost, the eldest
son of Ira Goddard. While most of the family was living near Keeneyville,
James H. Goddard (listed as J H in the 1860 Census) was living with
the William Mitchell family in Tioga Township and was listed as a clerk,
at 23 years of age. I've never found a further listing of him from this
point and always thought he most likely joined the Army and was killed
in the Civil War. Are there any records from the area which tell of enlistees?
During the last year I found the last will and testament of his father,
Ira, in LaSalle County, Illinois, something I had been looking for quite
some time. James is no longer listed although it's not until 1880. Many
things could have happened. Just wondered if you had ever come across this
name? Also, I may have some research work needed in the area and would
be glad to pay for services. Advice?
Thanks,

Am

believe
there are family members: Freeman Shaff, James Dickinson and others.
Do these names ring a bell with you? Thanks! Bev

Speedy is the sister of Wm. Leonard Schoonover, my direct ancestor. I was just through Austinburg (on an epic 3 week, 6096 mile Odyssey revisiting all the sites of 10 generatios of Schoonover) and cleaned their parents', Richard and Sally's, graves (and reset his broken-at-the-base headstone). Dean Pritchard who supplied the photos - where can I get ahold of you please!?
Their is an article in the Sullivan-Rutland project on the History of the Old Rutland Church by Ross G. Watkins. I have a picture of this gentlemen as he is related to me possibilty by marriage. His mother was Eliza Brace (who was Rev. Amos Mansfields daughter). Eliza married a man by the name of Lewis Watkins and when he died married Nelson Brace. Eliza had a woman name Maude Stevens listed a adopted daughter. Maude is my great great grandmother.
I was hoping someone out their could help me with my great great grandmothers family as I am at a loss for information.
Any information would be of great help.

My great-great grandfather, Henry BRION and his wife Esther (FREDERICK) had 2 sons according to our family bible: Reuben and Perrin. both were born in "Liberty Town", Tioga county. My geat grandfather was Reuben BRION born 6/28/1846. According to the bible record he married Rhuey KILPATRICK who was born 5/9/1861. They had two sons, Phillipp Harmond and Charles W. Rhuey died two weeks after the birth of Charles on 12/10/1882. I cannot find Rhuey for whom both my mother and I were named. I am desperately seeking information on Rhuey KILPATRICK. I don't know if there might be an error in the spelling or if all the records I am searching for are lost. I know that Reuben gave up both sons (Phillipp and Charles) for adoption and later remarried Anna BISHOP.
I am really a novice at this genealogy business, so let me apologize in advance for my apparent ignorance of how to retrieve or search for information.
I do want to take the time to tell youwhat a beautiful web site you have created. I especially enjoy your photography. I grew up in Penna, but live in Florida now and your pictues really remind me of home. The photograph of Trinity Episcopal Church in Antrim I had printed for my album!! My grandmother Anna Elizabeth (WITHEY) O'CONNOR was baptised there and I remember visiting it with her many years later. I discovered a lot of informtaion about my family trhough your website, that I had never been able to find anywhere else, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Hi All,
There appears to be at least one thing wrong in the "Mudge Memorials," which is dead wrong and has confused Mudge researchers to this day. Ebenezer MUDGE Jr. married Hannah ? first and had 5 children, then he married Patience FULLER and had 2 more children with her.
I actually got supporting documentation over it, in case anybody wanted
to argue with me about it. Thus, I sent a letter to the Clerk's office
in
Haddam, Middlesex Co., CT.
This is what they had:
Third Book of Record Page 204
"MUDGE Ebenezer was married to his wife Hannah July 8, 1736.
Ebenezer their son was born April 13, 1737
Hannah was born Feb. 28, 1738/9
Abigail was born September 13, 1743."

in 1863. He worked for the Fall Brook Coal Company for two years
and then at
Morris Run for several years. From Morris Run, he went to the
Arnot Mines, In 1870 he went to Antrim to work in the mines and was transferred
to the

John Lodge was a coal miner in Red Burn, PA. He was born in 1865 in Antrim and is buried in Kearney, NJ.

Trying once again to repost an old query on the FIELD family of Tioga County. George W. Field, son of Moses Field, was born (according to his death certificate) Feb. 10, 1840 and died in 1927 in Minnesota. He fought in the Spanish American War and possibly in the Civil War. In the 1850 census of Tioga, there is another George W but he was born in December of 1840 and I've since learned he died in the Pacific Northwest.
My George's son Moses D (Jack) Field was born Oct. 3, 1884 in Cherry Flats, Tioga County. In the 1900 census, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, he is a student at the Soldier's Orphans Industrial School in Greene Township. Harry Field and Moses are assumed to be brothers since they are both attending the same school. If this is Jack and his brother and father George did not die until 1927, did George put them in this school while he was away at war? Jack's mother was supposedly long deceased by then. According to family legend, she died in Kansas where the family had traveled by wagon train and the family returned to Pennyslvania. Her name was listed on some of Jack's records as Celia Zimmer. The lack of the 1890 census has caused me to be unable to find any more information on Jack. Does anyone recognize these names and facts? Would Harry actually be named Henry? Thanks for any clues.

Newspaper report in Tioga Co. 1867 reports that "M. Waldo May and family
" were "among flitters to the Great West.
What does the term "Great West" refer to at that time? Is it
in reference to a neighboring state, or to some other popular destination?
It would seem that "Great West" may have been reference to Michigan.
The Waldo May extended family which included son David B. May and wife Mariah moved to Ingham Co., Mi in 1867 according to the obit of Lewis Perry May their son. Lewis attended grammar school in Charleston Township until age 13 when the family moved.
Can anyone clarify "flitting to the Great West" and how it might have been accomplished in 1867. If the whole extended family were moving on, would "flitting" have had a derisive connotation, such as in search of greener pastures? Would the Civil War have had any influence? Thanks, Marianne May Apple

Hi Joyce...My daughter in Richmond, VA sent your site to me. My mother
and all of her family was raised in Arnot, PA. They were the Auld family.
My Aunt Mary and Uncle Tom Booth lived in Arnot long after most of the
family moved to other areas. Then they lived in Bloss for many years and
their son, my cousin Howard Booth ran the mercantile store for many years.
My Uncle Tom ran the only grocery store in Arnot during the 40's and probably
before. My Aunt Agnes Farrell played the organ in the Presbyterian Church
on the hill for "50" years....My Grandfather John Auld died in a mine blast
there in Arnot when my mother was only 12 or 13 years old. My mother Grace
Auld Brown just died here in Georgia on April 28th. She was 88 years old.
She was the last of all the original Auld children (12 of them). Most of
them lived to be in their 80's... Just a little info for you. There
are many many of the Aulds buried in the Arbor Cemetery in Bloss including
my great-great grandparents.
My name is Naomi Grace Brown Coleman and I live in Snellville, GA near
Atlanta. This was a pleasant surprise to see this. I'll relay it on to
my brother who has a lot of the Auld geneology, although my daughter in
Richmond, Kathy Ordway has researched most of it. Thanks again.

<< My name is Kenneth Groves, My gr gr grandmother was Elizabeth (Isabella) Jane French. Her father was William Milton French, presumed to be born in Bradford Co PA around 1825/1826 from his Civil War service records. His parents were Ira and Elizabeth French. In the 1850 census in Madison Co OH, Ira was born around 1781 in NY and Elizabeth around 1792 in PA.
I've checked your Tri County website. It has provided me a lot of information on the French family; however, no information on marriages. My main concern is finding a marriage between Ira and Elizabeth French that would occur prior to 1815. This would be a vital link with the rest of the French family in the Tri County area.
Any information on how to obtain this would be greatly appreciated.
