Message to post starts first line below.

Gabriel T. HARROWER had 5 children by wives Antionette KASSON (1813-1855) and Helen PARKHURST (1837-1917) between 1852 & 1868. Kasson & Parkhurst published histories report most births by these two women in Lindsey Steuben Co, NY. At least one in Tioga Co, PA.

Neither history claims Susan HARROWER b abt 1847 or Elijah HARROWER b abt 1848. Both born NY. Both found in the 1850-60 & 70 Lindley, Steuben Co, NY census with Gabriel T. HARROWER as head. In 1880 census Susan found as daughter of Gabriel T. HARROWER, Elkland twp Tioga Co, PA. By 1880 Elijah was married and head of a family. Gabriel T died Lawrenceville Toga Co. PA 15 Sept 1895

Lawrenceville Cemetery Tioga Co, PA on line records give DOD of 1846 for a Susan HARROWER as the 2nd wife of Gabriel T and DOD of 1848 for an Elizabeth HARROWER the wife of Gabriel.

This posting to find out the name of the mother(s) of Susan & Elijah.

Thank you for the service

Trying to find the parents of JESSE LOSEY, who was a pioneer settler in Tioga Tp. Tioga Co. PA. Does anyone know if STEPHEN LOSEY or ISSAC LOSEY were brothers? Dear Joyce,
Would anyone have any information on RYON"S Flour Mill near Elkland, Pa. I believe my ggrandfather, John D. MURRAY, came from Ireland around 1850 to run the mill. His brother, Thomas, helped dig the mill race. Thomas' granddaughter, Helena MURRAY, wrote some family history aruond the 1970's in which she wrote: "Lemuel Davenport, my ggrandfather, was one of the early settlers of the Cowanesque Valley. He came from Connecticut and settled on land south of the Cowanesque river below what is now Elkland Pa. At that time it was called Beecher's Island. Later his farm was known as the John W. RYON farm. Now it is owned by Edgar McLean and is situated on the north side of Route 49 a short distance east of the L. M. Eggleston home. The house and 3 other buildings are not close to the road. Thomas MURRAY, my grandfather, came to the Davenport home to help dig a mill race for a flour mill later known as RYON's flour mill. He asked his brother, John D., to come from Ireland to operate the mill." If anyone has any information/history/pictures etc. of this mill please contact me. Thank you.

Hi Joyce,
My name is Larry Knapp and I am trying to do my family history and I have run into a problem I can't figure out. My great great grandfather Daniel Knapp moved into this area in time for the 1850 census. He purchased a farm in Delmar township, Tioga County at that time. He moved here from Oil Creek twp. Crawford County PA. We can find no record of him after the 1850 census. He was 71 at that time so I assume he died before the next census but we can find no record of his death nor can we find any burial records.

Any help you might give would be appreciated

Dear Joyce,
I'm hoping you can help me locate some family information on my mother's side of the family.

My mother's sister, Ellen Harvey (b. 11/22/88) married John Hamilton on 11/29/1906 in Houtzdale, PA. They moved to Osceola Mills and I have found them in the 1920 Census, having 5 children: Elizabeth, Margaret, Ellen, Johnnie and Joseph. Rumor has it that Ellen was accidentally killed by a gun in the hands of one of her children, supposedly a 5 year old. I cannot find any record of that death. I'm thinking it would have been after 1920.

If you have no information at your site, perhaps you could direct me where to go.

Thanks for your time.

I'm inquiring about an Ethel A. Wales (my paternal grandmother) who lived in Jackson Summit (Tioga County) and whose father was reportedly shot and killed when his livestock trespassed onto a neighbor's property and destroyed some crops.

Ethel was born on Sept. 3, 1892, and lived in Jackson Summit until about 1906, when she moved to Elmira, N.Y., to live with her sister (I think it was "Laura") and attend the high school there. She later graduated from Elmira College and then moved to Crosby, N.D to teach school.

Can you give me some advice please on the best way for me to research more information about my grandmother?

Thank you!

Joyce,
Great site! Thanks for your efforts. My ancestors populated Vawter, Litchfield, Athens and surrounding areas in Bradford County PA. Now, thanks to your site I've found a brother of my Third GGrandfather which has previously been the end of the line for my paternal line. Ira Johnston, b 13FEB1810 in Danby, Tompkins Cnty, NY, evidently moved to Charleston Twsp in Tioga County from Danby with his wife, Elizabeth Griffin (b.11 APR 1814 Danby NY). I'm hoping to find some descendants of Ira that will have some knowledge of Ira's ancestors.

Ira's brother Albert D. Johnston died 11 JUL 1833 by lightening strike, in Danby NY leaving a wife, Beattie and six children, the oldest was my second GGRandfather Geo. W, Johnston, who eventually moved his family to Litchfield, PA along with his brother Charles G. Johnston. Brothers Geo. W. and Chas. G. married Taylor sisters from Tioga County New York. George married Sarah and Charles married Mary Elizabeth.

Your site has also been responsible for bringing me in contact with two other Johnston family researchers, Beth Johnston and Lu and Bob Metzler, who are cousins through Harvey Johnston, descended from Rev Wm Johnston in NY. In one evening I have been able to overcome research doldrums that have lasted for three years.

Thanks again for your wonderful efforts.

My Chauncey GERMAN and Phoebe WILMOT were born in Tioga Co. in the early 1900's. The Wimot line is an easy one as her family was wee-known, but the GERMAN side so far is undiscovered. Dear Joyce,
Hello! Thanks so much for setting up your web pages on the genealogy of the Tri-Counties. My great, great grandfather Joshua Ingalls, was raised there and my great grandmother Carrie Ingalls and grandfather Frank Edmond were both born there. Your sites have been invaluable in my family research.

I have a question for you. Joshua Ingalls served in the Civil War, as did four of his brothers. I have found out that one of these four brothers, Alvin H. Ingalls, my great^3 uncle, is featured in the book "Presidents, Soldiers, and Statesmen 1776-1894" H.H. Hardesty, Publisher, New York, Toledo, and Chicago (1895). There is apparently a sketch of Alvin that accompanies the text describing his service. I was wondering if you could give me any advice on how to obtain a copy of this sketch, as it would be amazing to have!

I would greatly appreciate any help that you could give me!

Hi Joyce,
I found your web site while searching for information on my Searles family and ran across Sharon's page on her Searles. I would be interested in contacting her...as a number of us are also researching the Searles from NY. My ancestor John Searles married a Mary Stewart that we believe was a daughter of William Stewart and his wife Mary from Elmira NY (on your list of Rev. War. pensioners from Elmira). My John Searles came from Whitehall NY (born between 1780 and 1791), and we are having the same problem she has run across connecting him to his earlier relatives. I thought perhaps we could share information. Would you mind putting me in touch with her?

By the way, your web site is very informative and well done.
Thank you for your help.

Hello Joyce
I have spent the better part of the last 2 days devouring your site. What a wonderful resource you have provided. I have recently begun to continue researching my roots, picking up where my mother left off 30 years ago. Your site has provided me with enough pertinent information to have made this a good beginning. Thank You!

Can you direct me to any information about my birth grandmother, Maud Amy Potter, who married my grandfather Charles Harry Seaton (he may have Tioga Country connections too) in the early 1890's. She died in 1897 or 1898 and a short time later he married AnnaBetty Hardt, daughter of Anton Hardt, of Wellsboro. She was the grandmother that I knew and loved, but I have always wanted to know more about Maud. I visited Wellsboro when I was a girl as my father's aunt, Frances Potter Chricton, and her husband still lived there. I would appreciate any information you might have, or any suggestions you might give me about where to look. I have found much of interest already here at your site.

Joyce,
I am hoping that you can help me. My family and I are banging our heads against the stone wall on a side in the family that you happen to have notated on the web. (see below)

History of Tioga County, Pennsylvania
Biographical Appendix
This page is part of the Tri-County Genealogy Sites by Joyce M. Tice
LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP AND LAWRENCEVILLE.
CHARLES BARBER, carpenter and joiner (post-office Somers Lane), has lived in Tioga county from his childhood, and was born in Steuben county, N.Y., in 1846. Mrs. Barber was Miss Hattie Brownell, of Tioga. Mr. Barber enlisted in 1862 in Company A 149th Pa., and served three months; re-enlisted in 1864, in Company A 49th N.Y., and served to the close of the Rebellion.

We have been researching Charles Barber and his wife Brownell. We had either Hattie or Lois as her name. You have Hattie. I am located in Cincinnati, Ohio, so I do not have access to the Pennsylvania area for research. Would you have any other information on these families? Can I get a photocopy of the info from the book you quoted? I would be more than happy to reimburse you. In case you can help and need a bit more information (don't have a lot) here are few more family details.

Charles William Barber, son of Grant Barber and Elisabeth or Emma, (possibly Carl for last name). Charles was either born in New York or Pennsylvania. Census have provided conflicting information. Charles has resided it seems everywhere. As a child he was in Steuben Co., New York and then Tioga Co., Pennsylvania. As an adult after he married the Brownell, the resided in Connecticut, Illinois and Kentucky as well as other locations. Charles had a sister named Harriet Barber who married John McLean Goodrich. After Hattie/Lois Brownell-Barber died Charles remarried a Lucinda Feldbush. It would be wonderful if you have additional information on the Barber's and Brownell's. We know a bit on the Barbers but nothing of the Brownell's. Hopefully you can help us. We sure would appreciate it!!! If not, I can understand if you are too busy.

Thank you for your time.
Patti

Hello Joyce,
I have been enjoying and greatly benefiting from your site for a couple years now. Our (my husband and I) familes histories took us to Wellsboro. We found deeds for land which his great grandfather had purchased in Potter Brook 1905. The land was originally part of the Bingham Estate. That term seems very common to the area but the assessment office in Wellsboro courthouse could not provide any maps of the area. We would like to find the exact location of the property if possible. Can you tell me if there are Bingham Estate land office records available anywhere? We have contacted the Westfield library but they have nothing as well. Thanks so much for your time.

All the information I have is his father's name was Clarence and Clifford's wife's name was Susan. We would like to come down to PA. to obtain his death certificate to further our research. Would it be more advisable to send for it, and how long would it take? In order to get any further back we have to have his information. His mother died young and we do not have any information on the parents before his birth. Thank You for taking the time in answering my letter, we had hoped to come down that way in a few weeks. Dear Joyce,
A week or so ago researching Oliver NEWELL and Jane WATTS I believe I found in your Query Site of your Tri-Counties Site a person who had put up a Watts Web Site. I can't remember the name or address of the site. It was nice and thorough. It is not the one I get to when I put in WATTS Genealogy. Do you have records of such a site?. I can't remember the ladies name who submitted it. The description of it is that the background is a pretty pale yellow and the letters bold, black I think or maybe brown.

I have not ben able to find out much about Oliver Newell who came to the Tri-Counties about 1805, I did find him on the 1830 census along with Josiah Newell but I don't know if he was the one married to Jane Watts.

Could you help me. I know you are most busy. I have spent many hours travelling though your site, You have made much of my family history come alive. John NEWELL must have been quite a person to know.

Thanks,
Drake Porter

Recently I made a trip to Tioga County, PA and found my great, great Shaw Grandparents in the Farmington Hills Cemetery. There is a small church, no longer active, the Farmington Hills Presbyterian Church, in front of the cemetery. My questions are: How would I find out what happened to the records from this church? How would I locate the records for that particular cemetery? When people were buried in the 1880s, would there have been morticians who kept records?

Thank you for any help.

Good afternoon, Ms. Tice. I'm trying to find some pieces to my family tree. My grandmother (maiden name = Eleanor Krolak) told me that her grandfather and father were buried in Morris Run, PA. Here grandparent's names are John Krolak (1856-1932) and Anna Krolak (maiden name: Przydryga?) (1865-March 4, 1904). I've been on your web site for the past hour and can't find what I'm looking for. I noticed that other Krolak's have resided in Morris Run, but I'm not sure if they're related to me. I also noticed that one of those Krolak's is named John. I don't know if that's the same John as my grandmother's grandfather. According to my grandmother, John Krolak was born in Poland (maybe Germany) and worked in the coal mines. John and Anna had 8 children. One of them, Michel Krolak, is my grandmother's dad. He too was apparently buried in Morris Run, PA along with Jesphine Krolak (Michel's wife). Walter Krolak is the brother of Michel Krolak and is apparently still living. I would ask my grandmother, but her memory is not working like it once did. Any light you can shine would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! I hope I haven't confused you too much.

Very respectfully,
ENS Jerry D. Butwid
