I am trying to find the names of (Rev.) Hiram BACON's parents. I recently viewed the Joyce M. Tice pages and verified that Hiram BACON was born July 18, 1808, died Nov 12, 1886, and is buried in the Austinburg Pioneer Cemetery next to his wife, Lucy Maria (July 3, 1825-Aug 8, 1889).
In the 1880 Brookfield Township, both parents of (Rev.) Hiram Bacon are listed as having come from Vermont.
In the listing of Tioga Township Taxpayers, 1812, there are four BACONs listed: Alvin, Daniel, Ebenezer and William. Since Hiram BACON was born in Brookfield, Tioga, PA in 1808, I am assuming his parents lived there at the time. Perhaps you can help me find their names.
Thank you,
Robert L. Bacon

Hello, I am trying to find any information on Levi MURPHY or his daughter-in-law Sarah. They are listed in both the 1899 directory and the 1900 federal census in Ogdensburg. Looking for information on my great grandfather, Rev. George Scott McKinney of Lawrence Township. His obit appeared in the July 7, 1907, "Manchester Advertiser," which reported that he was survived by a widow (Martha Ames McKinney), a son (Louis Harland McKinney {later changed name to MacKinney, my grandfather}, and a daughter (I have no idea who my great aunt was). I have more info on George Scott including his Civil War Records (and a "regimental'" chair that I donated to the Pennsylvania museum), but no information on his parents other than he was born about 1845 in Elmira, NY and I think his father's name was George W. McKinney. He apparently had at least two older brothers, Philander and Lorenzo.
Any info can be sent to this email address.

I'm trying to find out the maiden name of Philinda, wife of Reuben COOK. Philinda died in 1864, Reuben in 1881. They are buried in the Osceola/Fairview Cemetery next to Reuben's parents, Reuben and Sarah (COLE) Cook. Perhaps records of their children who remained in the Tri-Counties area have something on this: among children of Reuben and Philinda were Betsey (COOK) Costley, died 1892, wife of Levi COSTLEY; and John COOK, died between 1890 and 1896 in Steuben County, NY, last married to Angeline Guinn. Thank you!

Hello, my great grandfather was George Washington Thompson. He was a blacksmith who lived in Middlebury, Westfield and surrounding areas at one time or another. The 1880 census has him listed as G.W. Thompson, wife Jenette, children William, Kitty, Floyd and Augustus. There were 6 children in the family, thier first child was a girl who I believe died when she was young. The rest of the children are as follows: William, Kitty, Augustus, Floyd, and a girl named Bertha. I know alot about William and Floyd, but its like Kitty, Bertha, Augustus just up and disappeared. lol There was also a J.W Thompson listed in the census as a harness maker, I believe he was George's brother but cannot find a actual first name on him. Any help at all I would be grateful.
The work that you have put into making this site is outstanding and I enjoy searching here even if I am not making much progress because of a lack of information at my end. Thank you for your time. Sincerly, Bonita Karpel
I am hoping that you can help me or direct me to someone that can. I'm looking for information on the Maltmans that are burried in the Canoe Camp Cemetery. The listing for the cemetery that is on- line is only a partial. I know that Harry Maltman is burried there and was hoping that his wife is also. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I live in Mi so its doubtful that I'll get there myself. Thanks- Christina Cook
Good Evening,
We are researching on our line of "Thomas" families, some of whom had
connections, very early on, in McKean County, PA.
We noted that you have an Ephraim Thomas in your family who married a Calista.. and the areas of perhaps Tioga and but for certain McKean County are areas of interest for our Thomas lines.
Might you know if your Ephraim Thomas, who married Calista, was the son of an Ephraim Thomas? And if so, if you know more about his ancestry ~ the Thomas family.
Our lines are Eliphalet Thomas and his brother Ephraim Thomas....both from NY who came into Pennsylvania. So you can see our interest.
We might believe, but without any confirmation that perhaps the Ephraim Thomas b.1789/NY and who died l852...may be in some way a child of our Eliphalet Thomas.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello Joyce: I have tried unsuccessfully to locate on any new or old map a community named "Calcoon" in Liberty Township, Tioga County, Pa. Do any of your records suggest just where it is or was? My G-grandfather, Joseph Mase/Mays and most of his siblings were supposedly born there. The time frame would have in the second quarter of the 1800's.
Thanks for your time and efforts. Regards, Vernon Mase
I am searching for any information about my father's family. I have found no information prior to my great grandparents: Moses and Linda (Stout) Van Nocken and John and Ingeborg (Robertson) Bailey. Somewhere along the line, a relative changed our last name from Van Aucken or Van Auken to Van Nocken, though I don't know how far back that was or where it was done. Also, my great grandmother, Ingeborg Bailey, immigrated from Norway. I know that my father was born in a town that is now a lake and he grew up in Roseville. Any information would be helpful.

Hello Joyce,
It's been quite awhile since I last wrote to you. Your site just gets
better all the time. I really do enjoy it, but haven't been here for some time.
In the process of looking for information on my ODELL/HITCHCOCK line in the Tioga County area, I found the following query (under Tioga Queries & Surnames, April 2003 - June 2003). When I responded to the e-mail address that was given for Joan Barnes, it came back as not being a customer of theirs. My question is this; do you have any other way to contact this person. I would really like to hear from her. I also noted the query from my Aunt's granddaughter, April Mast, in this same section. April and I correspond regularly.
I have included my reply, and a request to her at the bottom of this e-mail. If you think I should just send this as a regular query, please let me know.
Thanks for you help, and keep up the good work.

ODELL, ODLE -Researching Thomas ODLE and Hannah CLARKE (spelled with an E) whose son George Jerome ODELL is my ggrandfather on my mother's side. He was a Civil War veteran and was incarcerated in Andersonville prison for nearly 2 years. I have obtained his pension records and would like to contact Kelly Odell Vance and Mary Sheehan Montalvo who exchanged information about the Odell family in October 1997 and in July 1998. George and Olive Elmira Raymond Odell are buried in Nelson, PA in the Nelson Cemetery. If any one else has information about the Odell's from Tioga County and New York (various counties) please contact me; thank you in advance. Joan S. Barnes (joan457@attbi.com)
Hi Joan,
I was just going through the inquiries for Joyce Tice's "Tioga PA Site", and
found someone else who was researching ODELL's in the same area. 'FINALLY'!!!
I don't know if we are researching the same family, or not; but, we are in the same county at least. I am trying to find out if anyone can connect my GGrandmother, Mary ODELL who was born: abt. 1843 in PA; married to Daniel HITCHCOCK who was born: abt. 1828 in NY. I found them living in Bloss/Blossburg, Tioga Cty., PA on the 1880 Census for Pennsylvania. He was a farmer at that time. The following is a list of the children at that time; all the children were born in PA.
Lewis, age 14 born: abt. 1866 Ella, age 12 born: abt. 1868 Lizzie, age 10 born: abt. 1870 George, age 7 born: abt. 1873 Floyd, age 5 born: abt. 1875 Maggie, age 4 born: abt. 1876
Floyd is my paternal Grandfather, married Katie A MILES on 28 January 1897 in Rathbone NY, she was b: 4/8/1881 in Addison, Steuben Cty., NY- and are the parents of my Father, Vernon Leddra HITCHCOCK, b: 8/8/1917 in MI; plus, 6 other siblings that thrived (4 other siblings died at age of 2 or 3 yrs of age - have no names, birth dates, or death dates, as yet).
I have been corresponding the last couple of days, with someone who is possibly related to my family; he is telling me that Mary ODELL was a full-blooded Indian Princess (gave no tribe name), and that she was given (or took) the surname of ODELL. Also, stated that Daniel HITCHCOCK was introduced to Mary by Missionaries in PA. How much is true, I don't know. I have heard of Indian connections before, but have found nothing as yet to support that information.
Let me know if any of these connect to your's. Good Luck, and hope to hear from you soon.

I am searching for the family of Anna Riley who was the wife of John Richard RILEY. They married in Tioga County, PA in August, 1904. I believe her maiden name may have been BARNHART. I see there is a listing in the 1908/1909 Tioga Directory for John Riley and Anna and that there are a number of Barnharts in the directory. John and Anna had two children, Francis and Helen. Anna and Francis died in Oklahoma in 1911.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Four SNOADs immigrated to Tioga County in 1839: George Snoad, Henry Snoad, Thomas Snoad and Charlotte Snoad Coveney. I am related to George.
By 1845 George and Henry had moved to Joliet IL. The latter two families remained in the area, though after Thomas died his widow and two children moved to Joliet.
As I do more detailed work of the family I find myself wondering about George's 5-6 years in Tioga County. As he was a grazier in Kent, I assume that he bought property and farmed. How would I review land records...... both purchases and sales to try to answer my questions?
Perhaps you can tell me what might have prompted their move away from Tioga. Was the land not as productive as they had expected, or was there a problem with crop prices or the weather, etc?
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely
Barbara Lewis
HILL/BUMP Searching for information on Elmer Hill born around 1874. According to census records Mr. Hill lived with Lena Bump in Tioga County area in early 1900's. Mr. Hill separated from Ms. Bump around 1914. Lena Bump married Frederick Crance in March 1915. Mr. Hill moved in with Rosie Crance AKA: Caroline Rosella Miles Crance on April 22, 1915. They lived on the Fred Peet farm. I think Fred Peet farm might be or have been in Tioga County. Mr. Hill was charged with murder, in May of 1915, of Clinton Salmon, Rosie Crance's brother in law. The murder occurred in Gold, Pa., Potter County. Mr. Hill convicted of crime and sent to Western State Prison in Sept 1915.
Would appreciate any information anyone might have on Elmer Hill or his descendants. LilaWat@msn.com
