1. Thomas1 Keeney *(1)

was born in Scotland 21 MAY 1751. Thomas died 10 JAN 1840 Mitchell Creek, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age 88.

(Note from reader Ann McDonald - HMVX85A@prodigy.com (ANN M MCDONALD) To:JoyceTice@aol.com I have been doing a Keeney genealogy of my line which is the Israel Parshall Keeny line. I have traced Thomas Keeney Sr. from East Hartford to New York State to Fabius and then to Chemung, NY. then to Wyoming County, PA and back to Chemung, where he is buried next to Mercy Lamb and Israel Parshall, father of Ann Pershall, wife of Thomas Jr. Then I traced Thomas Jr. to Tioga County in 1815. According to his Rev War Records Thomas Keeney Sr. was born in East Hartford, CT, not Scotland. There is a section of East Hartford called Scotland and it is possible that that is where this ideas first went wrong. He is a descendant of Alexander Keeney who may or may not have been born in Mass(but probably was born in England). Alexander had a son Joseph who had a son Alexander who was Thomas's father. If you are interested in my sources I will be glad to send them to you. Ann M. McDonald

) Mercy died 1839 in Chemung, Chemung County, New York, at age 91. The Keeney history says that Mercy was a French woman "with black eyes, black curly hair, and a very fair light complexion, causing her to be singularly good looking." I would wonder if there is a connection to her with Gad Lamb for whom Lamb's Creek was named? The Keeney genealogy tells us that the father of THomas lived ot be 106 years old. Thomas was a tall, larged framed man. He emigrated to this ocuntry prior to the Revolution and served three years in it. He enlisted at East Hartford CT.He lived in Onondaga County NY at the time of applying for pension 11 September 1832 at age 81.

was born in New York 1810/20.

He married Mary Ann Fellows. Mary was born 1815/20 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Mary was the daughter of David Fellows and Almeda Unknown (Fellows). Mary Ann FELLOWS was between 20 and 30 years old in the 1840 census. She lived next door to James A. FELLOWS. The 1883 History describes her as "of Sullivan." I am assuming she is sister of James given their proximity. I also believe that the older man in James' household is the father of both, David, recently widowed. A female 10-15 was present in the 1830 census in David's household.

Jesse was listed as the head of a family on the 1840 Census in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.(121)

Mary Ann and Jesse lived next door to her brother James in 1840. They had one male child under age five. Two males 15-20 in their household may be brothers of one of them. "Jesse M. Keeney married Mary Ann Fellows, of Sullivan township, and he there joined the Methodist church, of which he was class leader many years and up to the time of his death." His parental family had migrated from the Susquehanna River area near Wilkes Barre, PA where Jesse's grandparents had settled, to Chemung and Cortland Counties in New York and to Tioga in 1823 or 24. Jesse's grandparents were from Connecticut. I can not locate either Jesse or Mary Ann in subsequent census records by any of several spellings I tried. The Keeney Genealogy indicates he settled at Tioga.

Jesse was nephew of Mary Keeney who maried Major Benjamin Bentley for whom Bentley Creek was named. He was also nephew of Ruby Keeney who married Richard Mitchell for whom Mitchell Creek was named. His cousin, Benjamin Parshall was also inSullivan in 1840, and his brother, Elijah, settled in the area named Keeneyville in Middlebury Township, Tioga County PA.
