George DIVEN Family of Sullivan Township

1.  George1 Diven * (#73935) was born 1790-1800.

George was listed as the head of a family on the 1820 Census in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  This was a young family with two daughter under ten and a son 10-16.  George and wife were 26-45.

George was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 Census in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  The household this year included one man in the 80-90 age category. George and wife had five daughters and one son.

George registered to pay taxes 1832 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  Two properties, one of 25 improved acres and 75 wild and another of 100 wild acres, 2 oxen and 3 cows, valuation $369, county tax $2.77, state tax .37.

George registered to pay taxes 1833 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  25 improved acres, 175 wild acres, 2 oxen, 3 cows.

George registered to pay taxes 1834 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  25 acres improved land, 175 acres wild land, 2 oxen, 5 cows, 2 horses.

George registered to pay taxes 1835 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  George had two properties, one with 35 improved acres and 65 wild acres and one with 12 improved acres and 88 wild acres. He had 4 oxen, 5 cows and 4 horses. He appears to be one of the most prosperous people in the township.

George registered to pay taxes 1837 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  47 improved acres, 153 wild acres, 2 cows, 2 horses.

George registered to pay taxes 1838 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  30 acres improved land, 270 wild acres, 1 horse, 2 oxen, 3 cows.

George registered to pay taxes 1839 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  25 improved acres, 273 wild acres, 1 horse, 4 cows.

George registered to pay taxes 1840 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  Land transferred to Joseph Ballard

There was a Diven School in Sullivan very early which was the location of early Methodist meetings. George Diven also swore that he knew that William Ludington served in the Revolutionary War. In 1840 both a George Diven and a John Diven were in Dix, Chemung County NY (Now Schulyer County). I see no listing for Seba.

George Diven* had the following children:

2  i.  Seba2 Diven (#73936) was born 1804-1810.  Seba registered to pay taxes 1832 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  Owned one cow valued at $9.00
Seba registered to pay taxes 1833 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  Assessed for one cow, but removed from township. I am assuming that this oldest son of George as reflected in the 1820 and 1830 census is the Seba who paid taxes in 1832 and 1833 at which time he removed from Sullivan.
3  ii.  (Daughter) Diven (#73937) was born 1811-1820.
4  iii.  (Daughter) Diven (#73938) was born 1811-1820.
5  iv.  (Daughter) Diven (#74165) was born in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1825-1830.
6  v.  (Son) Diven (#74166) was born in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1825-1830.
7  vi.  (Daughter) Diven (#74167) was born in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1825-1830.
8  vii.  (Daughter) Diven (#74168) was born in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1825-1830.
