His body was interred MAY 1871 in Wood Cemetery, Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.

She migrated from Delaware County, New York to Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1808. Annis and Jesse and their baby migrated to Rutland Township near the top of Rutland Hill. They opened a road up from the area now called Sopertown. Their original homestead location is the one known as the Raymon VanZile place in this century. Annis' sister, Elizabeth, who had married David Crippen came later and settled adjacently. This is near where the old Crippen Cemetery is still to be found. It should bednoted that while the children of Annis and Jesse are listed as having been born in Rutland Township, it was Sullivan Township at that time. This is why Jesse is listed on the 1816 Sullivan tax roll. Rutland Township was formed in 1819 from part of Sullivan and Jackson.

Arba's birthdate is calculated from deathdate and age on tombstone: 40y 10m 18d. Arba was the son of Jonathan Wood+ and Wife2 Unknown (Wood).

DollyAnne and Arba had two males and one femame aged 5-10 and 1 male 10-15 in their household for this census. A primary source on the descendants of Arba Wood is the Jay Wood letter written in 1952. He wrote this from memory without documentation and used nicknames for many of his cousins. I don't know about its accuracy, but it is certainly authentic to some large degree if not absolutely perfect. Information which has been accumulated in addition his, confirms some of it.

She married Thomas Wood AFT 1850. (Thomas Wood is #525.) Thomas was born 4 APR 1806 in Danbury, Fairfield County, Connecticut. Thomas was the son of Seth Whitlock Wood+ and Elizabeth Wilson+. Moved to Minnesota Ashley Genealogy by Trowbridge, 1896 Syracuse Library. See also An Illustrated History of Jackson County, Minnesota, 1910, p. 342. Margaret and Welch moved to Minnesota. Emerson Smith, in his diaries, continued to call the place next door at the bottom of the hill the Ashley Place for the rest of his life. It is still sometimes known as the Ashley Place well into the twentieth century. Carrie McConnell (Beardlee) refers to it as such in her diary when moving into it in the 1950s.

6 v. John Smith (#1840) was born in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 21 SEP 1814. Individual flags: Obituary. John died 27 DEC 1902 in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age 88. His body was interred 30 DEC 1902 in Reynolds/VanNess Cemetery, Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Burt Strange recorded in his diary that he and Rex Soper buried John Smith on this date. He married Harriet Reynolds 18 JAN 1845. (Harriet Reynolds reference LR 43) (Harriet Reynolds is #1839.)

Harriet was born 28 AUG 1824 in Hartland, Rutland County, Vermont. Harriet was the daughter of John W. Reynolds and Phoebe (Roba) Bennett. Harriet died 1 FEB 1906 in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age 81. Her body was interred in Reynolds/VanNess Cemetery, Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Harriett Reynolds was born in Hartland Vermont August 28, 1824, died Feb.1,1906. She came from Hartland Vermont with her parents in 1828. In early girlhood she married John Smith and began housekeeping in a log cabin on land given her by her parents. She was well known and loved in the community. Besides rearing a family of five children she was always on hand to help a neighbor in sickness or trouble. She was a member of the Methodist Church. It is frequently misrepresented that the area which in the twentieth century has been known as the Smith place on Rutland Hill, was in fact, part of the original Reynolds holdings and became known as the Smith place through the marriage of Harriet to John Smith. This was never the homestead of Jesse Smith and Annis Worden who settled elsewhwere on Rutland Hill.

In the Census of 1850, John was listed as a head of household in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.

7 vi. Tristram Smith (#1894) was born in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 22 JUN 1816. Individual flags: Obituary. Tristram died 19 NOV 1898 in Elk Run, Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age 82. His body was interred NOV 1898 in Wood Cemetery, Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Both newspaper account and Death Register of Tioga County indicate burial in the Wood Cemetery although a stone has not been located. He married twice.

He married Miss ? Unknown (Decker). (Miss ? Unknown (Decker) is #27708.) He married Sally A. Burton 07 APR 1841. (Sally A. Burton is #1902.) Sally was born 1827 in Pennsylvania. Sally was 23 years old in the 1850 census. Sally was the daughter of Halsey Burton* and Rachel Wood. I may have two Sally Burtons confused- Examine more closely. The daughter of Rachel and Halsey was born 1840 in Michigan, unless she is grandaughter?? This Sally has to be older to be mother to the children.

In the Census of 1850, Tristram was listed as a head of household in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Tristam was a laborer with property worth $300. Obituary page 3 of Erma's book. Tristram's name has been written in a variety of ways. In the family Bible it is Tristram, but other references use Tristam. Tommy Smith, who used to tell my father abut the people in the neighborhood form times past, said that it was pronounced Trustum.

8 vii. William Smith (#1895) was born in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 3 OCT 1818. William died AFT 1899 at age unknown. While we do not have an exact date for William's death, he was alive at the time of his second wife, Eliza's, death in 1899. His body was interred AFT 1899 in Watson Cemetery,Roseville, Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. He married twice.

He married Dorothy Allen 20 AUG 1844. (Dorothy Allen is #1904.) Dorothy was born 3 JUL 1823. Dorothy was the daughter of William Allen* and Prudence Newberry. Dorothy died 12 JUN 1855 in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age 31. Her body was interred Jun 1855 in Watson Cemetery,Roseville, Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. The family FGR of the William/Prudence family does not include Dorothy, but it leaves a blank for another child b. bt. 1820 and 1827. Dorothy married William from Rutland Hill and there has to be areason why William and Prudence are buried in the VanNess/Reynolds Cemetery in that area. Dorothy Allen, wife of William Smith, is very likely of this family.

He married Eliza A. Loomis 1 MAR 1859. (Eliza A. Loomis is #1905.) Eliza was born 5 JUN 1837 in Massachusetts. Eliza was the daughter of John Loomis*. Eliza died 2 MAR 1899 in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age 61. Her body was interred MAR 1899 in Watson Cemetery,Roseville, Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Obituary page 3 of Erma's book See page 1103 of 1897 history. William was a member of the Rutland Hill Methodist Church and he was a Jacksonian Democrat, and an ardent supporter of the principles of his party.

9 viii. George W. Smith (#1896) was born in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 22 SEP 1820. He married Lavina Gailard* 08 NOV 1849. (Lavina Gailard* is #1906.) Lavina was born 1831 in Pennsylvania. George and Lavina moved to Missouri. He was a wagon maker. The 1850 Census Indes shows 36 George Smiths in Missouri.

Dauphin was the son of David Carter Haven and Betsey Dartt*. Dauphin died 1874 at age 52. Leviza and Dauphin farmed in Rutland Township, Tioga County, PA. The first name is spelles Lavisa in the family Bible birth record and looks mote like Lovisa for her marriage record in the same handwriting. Some references spell it Leviza.

11 x. Silas Smith (#1856) was born in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 23 FEB 1825. Others have interpreted the handwritten number in the Bible record as 27 Feb 1825 rather than the 23 as I interpret it. Individual flags: Newspaper. Silas died 7 OCT 1876 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age 51. His body was interred OCT 1876 in Whittaker-Jaquish Cemetery, Covington Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. He married Catherine Andrus BEF 1869. Silas' was the only marriage date not recorded in the family Bible, perhaps because it was also the latest. (Catherine Andrus is #1857.)

Kate was born 1841 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Kate was the daughter of Ephraim Y. Andrus* and Catherine Unknown (Andrus). Tombstone says age at death 51 y, 7m 12 days and died on Oct 7, 1876. Calculates back to known birthdate of Silas son of Jesse and Annis. Mansfield Advertiser 11th Oct 1876: Died Silas Smith in Sullivan after a short illness Oct 6th age 50 years. Services at Whittaker school house.

Her body was interred 1931 in Gillett Cemetery, Gillett, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.

Married same day and place and by same justice of peace as nephew Orrin.

Tioga County Records, marriage, say name is Davis, not Davies.
