The Flemish House of Maarten van Rossumhuis is a 16th century home in the Dutch city of Zaltbommel in the province of Gelderland within the Netherlands. The house was ordered to be built around 1535 by one of Gelderland's famous soldiers, Maarten van Rossum. The building contains traditional renaissance work and was saved from demolition in 1881 by Victor de Stuers and a famous architect by the name Pierre Cypers. It was purchased by the government and turned into the district court all while Cypers was restoring the building. In 1908, work was needed again, but now the house had a garden in the back. Around this time a successful exhibition of antiquities was held at the home and found a permanent stay in the Antiquity Room after many temporary exhibition sites. From there, the Association of Antiquities for Zaltbommel, Bommelerwaard and Heerewaarden established themselves within the house and with some financial support from the Philips Family, the Maarten van Rossumhuis House became a regional museum. Then in 1954, the Antiquity Chamber Association converted into a foundation named Stichting Maarten van Rossummuseum. The name of the Flemish home now museum changed in 2008 to 'Stadskasteel Zaltbommel'. As of 2016, it has become a member in the National Monuments Organization after being transferred to them from the State. [Jackie Miller, MU]
