Joyce's Search Tip - December 2007 -
Do You Know that you can search just the 600 pages of Tioga County Cemetery Records on the site by using the Cemeteries -Tioga button in the Partitioned search engine at the bottom of the Current What's New Page? If you use that partition follow these steps to search just one cemetery
1. Choose Cemeteries - Tioga.
2. Enter part of the cemetery name [ie Newbury or Furman] AND a surname.
3. Choose the Find ALL Words option. Then it will find just the pages with that surname in the one cemetery you indicated.

This is from Tioga County Cemetery Inscriptions, reprinted with permission of Rhoda ENGLISH Ladd

The Free Church Cemetery lies immediately about the Church edifice to Southward. The older portions overrun with brambles. The first burials were in Knoxville on Troup's Creek. The first remains were exhumed and reburied in the Free Church about 1832 The land was on property of Jonathon Matteson. Burials began here 1832 according to Edwin A. Glover of Knoxville. One hundred and one burials reported in 1940., not counting the ones in Riverside Cemetery. Today, like the Quaker Cemetery, all markers have been removed and the borough maintains it as a park. From references of 'Old Deerfield' by Eugene A. Seelye, an unmarked grave holds Simon Rexford, Pioneer and Revolution soldier. I had typed records copied by Lola Franke of Wellsboro. Another list was brought in, prepared from records and history from deed - Norman B. Leslie to the borough of Knoxville, Volume 214, p. 365, by R.W. Edgcomb. As the latest list contains lot owners and more burials, I will copy this list. You will also find some of these in Quaker Cemetery in book 2 of our Cemetery records.
The following note is from Donna Allen September 2003: The lot is kept mowed and cleaned. There is no other evidence that a cemetery ever existed here.
