REINSMITH Randall G.
Our beloved friend Randy died June 28, 2010 at Bartlett Hospital, Juneau,
AK. An open house to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, September 18th
from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Willow Creek Golf Course, Big Flats, NY. Come share a
story and have a bite to eat. All friends of Randy are welcome.- Elmira Star
Gazette, September 12, 2010
Juneau resident Randall G. Reinsmith died June 28, 2010 in Juneau of complications stemming from a lifelong battle with juvenile diabetes. Raised in Horseheads, N.Y., Randy astonished his friends and family with his many adventures and great determination, earning youthful honors in friendship, photography, carpentry and golf. He waged a humor-filled and courageous lifelong battle with juvenile diabetes. Generosity of spirit, passion for work, family and life, and a talent for developing deep and lasting friendships are just a few of the qualities of this special man. Randy truly cared about other people. Randy's love of the peaceful woods, cool clear water and rather large fish fueled his passion for Alaska. Whether mustering a golf roadtrip to Whitehorse or just a ride to the end of the road, he was up for it and ready with PBS-quality commentary. A voracious reader of pulp fiction, he had a somewhat cynical view of politics, but would argue with fascination on social commentary, historic preservation, the Zen of fishing, music theory and what is art. He had some opinions. Randy didn't care much for seatbelts, speed limits, licenses, organized endeavors or neckties, although he did cut quite a charming figure in a tuxedo on the family cruises. He was once was proclaimed the most charismatic man in the world by a completely earnest young lady out east. Always an invaluable resource to broken cars, motors and toys, he was happiest when helping and/or attempting to fix something. He gladly extended his hand and hammer. No doubt most of us still have some of his tools. Randy overflowed with thoughtfulness and vitality. No person or subject matter bored him. His family said, "Randy, you will be greatly missed. Our life without incredible you begins. We are so proud of you and the good life you lived, the kind we all hope for, but you were just a little kinder, friendlier and funnier. We know you brighten the sun and stars." Randy was preceded in death by his sister Elizabeth Reinsmith Besford, of Ann Arbor, Mich. and his father James Reinsmith, of Elmira, N.Y. and Greenville, S.C. He is survived and by his mother Rebecca and stepfather Jack Bullock; brother Rick and sister-in-law Jude Kelly; step-mother, Shirley Reinsmith; aunt, Cynthia Olson; and uncles, George Van Wert and Dick Hanscom. Cousins scattered throughout the lower 48 are left awaiting his help and good company installing new windows or rewiring the lamps. As Randy requested, there will be no service. An open house to celebrate his life will be held Monday, July 5 from 1-4 p.m. at the Island Pub in Douglas. All friends of Randy are welcome. Juneau Empire - July 4, 2010
