ASHLEY Corene Ashley Slocum
86, of Big Flats, N.Y., died
Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at Corning Hospital. Corene was born in Delmar,
Township on March 29, 1924, to Leonard and Damia (Maynard) Ashley. She attended
Wellsboro High School, where she was valedictorian of the 1941 class. She
married Richard C. Slocum on March 28, 1942, in Wellsboro; he predeceased her on
Aug. 15, 2010. Corene was a homemaker a majority of her life, but attended
Corning Community College and Elmira College in her later years. She graduated
with a bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1974. Corene was an avid
gardener, reader, bird watcher and hiker, completing portions of the Appalachian
Trail. She collected teddy bears and pressed flowers; she also enjoyed sewing
and needle work. Corene was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in
Big Flats, N.Y. Corene is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Slocum of Oak
Harbor, Wash.; three sons, Thomas (Barbara) Slocum of Roswell, Ga., Terry
(Arlene) Slocum of Lawrence, Kans., Timothy (Connie) Slocum of Mt. Juliet,
Tenn.; also six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and
nephews. She was predeceased by five sisters, Gertrude Reasner, Neva Beckhorn,
Julia Ashley, Joanna Ashley, Jane Olmsted and one infant brother, Curtis Ashley.
A memorial service will take place on Monday, Sept. 13 at 2 p.m., at the Big
Flats Community Center, 476 Maple Street in Big Flats, N.Y. Burial will be with
her husband, Richard, in Kennedy Cemetery in Pennsylvania. Those wishing may
send flowers in Corene's memory to the family home. Arrangements have been

BAKER Evelyn V. (SRGP 85553)
Evelyn V. Baker, 82 of Mystic, CT, died on Friday March 5, 2010 at the
Stoneridge Retirement Community, CT. Evelyn was born in Byron, NY on April 13,
1927, the daughter of Mildred (Bennett) and George Baker. Evelyn grew up in
Mansfield, PA and after graduation lived in New York City, NY. Evelyn was a
successful Event Planner in NYC for many, many years. She enjoyed visiting with
family, sewing, playing cards, spending time with her many friends in NYC and at
Groton Long Point in CT. Evelyn is survived by her sister, Margaretta "Gret"
Swezey of Mansfield, PA, her sister-in-law, Mary Jane Baker of Williamsport, and
her sister-in-law Jeanne Baker of Covington, PA. She is also survived by her
many nieces and nephews who lovingly call her "Aunt Honey". She was preceded in
death by her siblings: brothers, Harold, Walter and Clarence Baker, and a
sister, Doris Kenyon. At Evelyn's request, there will be no services. A private

BARNES Casey C.
Age 55, of Elmira Heights, died
at his home on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, surrounded by his loving family,
after a long battle with cancer. Casey was born in Olean NY and was a lifelong
resident of New York State. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and
Patricia Barnes and brothers, Michael and Mark Barnes. Casey is survived by his
wife of 26 years, Karen Cicora Barnes; son Anthony "Tony" Barnes; brothers and
sisters-in-law, Patrick and Karen Barnes, Richard and Kristine Barnes; sisters
and brothers-in-law, Shaun and Marv Rearick, Gail and Mike Wantuck; sisters,
Shannon, Meghan and Tobi; also surviving are several nieces, nephews and
cousins. He retired in January 2010 from the County of Chemung with over 20
years of service. Casey's heart was with his family and wrestling. He was an
accomplished wrestler while attending Elmira Free Academy. He coached a private
youth wrestling club, "Casey's Club", for 10 plus years. This program became one
of the most elite wrestling programs in the area. Several of his wrestlers
starred in high school and college. Casey refereed high school and college
wrestling for 13 plus years and was widely respected as one of the top New York
State officials. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of
Christian Burial on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 12:00 noon at St. Patrick's

BARTO Robert L. "Bob" Barto
76, of Hughesville, died at 3:25 am Friday, September 24, 2010 at the Muncy
Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit, where he had been a resident since August.
He was born August 15, 1934, in Penn Twp., Lycoming County, a son of the late
Harvey and Gertrude (Keebler) Barto. May 1, 1957, he married the late Lois M.
Fry, who died February 10, 2000. Bob graduated from Hughesville High
School and served in the US Army from 1957-59. He was a self-employed carpenter
from 1959-1997 and worked for Harold Sones doing local excavation. He enjoyed
spending time with his family and drinking morning coffee with the guys. He is
survived by a son, Edward R. (Staci) Barto, Hughesville; a granddaughter,
Rebecca (Bradley) Golder, Lock Haven; a sister, Carol "Joanne" (Alvin "Sonny")
Smith, Eagles Mere and a brother, Fred (Mary) Barto, Hughesville. Bob was
preceded in death by a sister, Helen Hess. Funeral services will be held at
10:30 a.m. Tuesday September 28, in the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E.
Water St., Hughesville. The interment will be in the Twin Hills Cemetery, Muncy.

BASTIAN Harold H
Watsontown, Pa. — Harold H. Bastian, 87, of Watsontown, PA and
formerly of Campbell and Lynbrook, died Monday, September 20, 2010 at Kramm
Nursing Home, Watsontown. He was predeceased by his two wives, the former
Eleanor Wenrick, of Campbell in 1983 and the former Pauline Stango of Lynbrook
in 2004. Harold was employed at Ingersoll Rand in Painted Post for 37 years. He
was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Campbell and a member of the Lions
Club, Lynbrook. Surviving are a daughter, Donna (Garry) Metcalf of Valrico, FL;
a stepdaughter, Carolyn (Neil) Rotter of Sanford, NC; two stepsons, Michael
(Kathy) Stango of Greensburg and James (Margaret) Stango of Coopersburg; seven
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 9:30 to
10:00 a.m. Friday at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown,
PA, where his funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Officiating will be Rev.

BELL Edward R. Bell
52, of Wellsboro, died on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, in Williamsport Hospital,
Williamsport. Born on Feb. 24, 1958, in Harrisburg, he was the son of Earl Ray
and Delores J. (Shaffer) Bell.Edward was employed as a landscaper in the
Virginia area. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1147 in
Wellsboro, the Wellsboro Veterans Club, the Arnot Sportsmen's Club and the Sons
of the Legion in Lewisburg. Edward also enjoyed singing. Edward is survived by
his loving companion, Glenda Strong of Wellsboro; four brothers, Tom Bell of
Gardners, David Bell of Gettysburg, Scott Bell of New Oxford, Michael Bell of
Lebanon; three sisters, Sandy L. Riley of New Oxford, Debbie B. Smith of New
Oxford, Ranee L. Brown of Littlestown; one step-brother, R. Joseph "Bobby" Poist
of New Oxford; and two step-sisters, Patty Poist of Dayton, Ohio and Mindy Poist
of New York state. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a
step-father, Robert "Pop" Poist. A memorial service for Edward will be held at a

BOWER Robert E. Bower
78, of 458 Grove Road, Cogan Station, died unexpectedly Monday, September
20, 2010, at his home. Bob and his wife, the former Lois H. Garman, observed
their 23rd wedding anniversary on March 28, 2010. His first wife, the former
Edna May Gibson, died on April 23, 1985. Bob was a member of the Faith
Christian Church. He had worked for Eastern Wood Products and retired from the
Williamsport Wire Rope. Bob's greatest love was farming and being a lifetime
beef farmer. Born January 4, 1932, in Williamsport, he was the son of Walter and
Laura Weigle Bower. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Leonard E.
(Devon) and LaVern E. (Holly) both of Cogan Station; stepson, James Hakes of
Harrisburg; stepdaughters, Kathy Mayer of Cogan Station, Robyn Perchinski of
Collomsville, Suzanne Ralston of Middleburg, Fla. and Beth Hopkins of Raleigh,
N.C.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; ten step grandchildren and
two step great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m.
Saturday at Knight-Confer's, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. Gary Runtas
officiating. There will be a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the

BRAUNBECK Sandra "Sandy" L. Hart (Braunbeck)
currently residing in Muncy, Pa., left her earthly vessel unexpectedly on
Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at her home. She was born July 15, 1955, on a US
Naval base in San Juan, Puerto Rico, a daughter of Walter James and Esther Rae
Braunbeck. Sandy lived the majority of her early education through high school
years frequently moving with the Braunbeck clan from one Navy base to another,
ranging from her starting point in Puerto Rico to Newport, Rhode Island to Pax
River, Maryland to Norfolk, Virginia to Bainbridge, Maryland to Key West,
Florida, to Williamsport where she graduated as a Millionaire with the class of
1973. Her desire for caring for others led to a Licensed Practical Nurse degree
in 1974 from Williamsport Area Community College. That compassion was how she
was able to touch so many peoples' lives. Sandra received many awards and
accolades as a nurse at Williamsport Area Hospital, (from 1974-1999) worked with
the 2010 census, and was excited to seek employment as a personal care nurse at
the time of her death. Everyone who ever met Sandy is shocked and saddened by
her loss and her children/family, friends and even acquaintances are grieving
all across the nation. She was the most passionate and loving daughter, sister,
aunt, wife, mother, friend, dog lover, and sports lover (particularly the
Chicago Cubs and Hughesville Spartans Soccer) Surviving are her father Walter
Braunbeck and his wife Barbara Braunbeck, children, April Hart, husband, Bill
Krovetcz, and Scott Hart, wife Erin Hart, as well as 3 siblings, Bill Braunbeck,
wife Joanne Braunbeck, Karen Stine, husband Oscar Stine, and David Braunbeck,
wife Stevie Braunbeck, 6 nieces and nephews, Candy, Becky, Nevin, Kalena, Alex,
and Alivia, 4 grand-dogs, and last but by no means least, her dog, Penny. Anyone
who was touched by knowing Sandy please join us for a celebration held at Trout
Pond Park in Muncy, PA (Pavilion No. 3) on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at 2 p.m.

Jack H. Brown, 65, of The Villages, FL, died Thursday, September 16, 2010.
He was born April 6, 1945 in Elmira, NY. He retired as Chief of Security for
FLDOT. He was a US Navy Veteran. He was a member of the American Legion, the NY
State Police Benevolent Association. He enjoyed, golf, traveling and bowling. He
was an avid baseball fan especially The Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays, College
football fan, Syracuse Orangeman and F.S.U. Seminoles. He moved to The Villages
in 2003 from Tallahassee, FL. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Brown of The
Villages, FL; son, Pete (Elizabeth) Brown of Miami, FL; daughters, Janelle Brown
of Tallahassee, FL, Jennifer Brown of Panama City, FL; brothers, Terry (Sherry)

died
on September 18, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on
March 15, 1931 in Monterey, NY. George is survived by his companion of many
years, Betty Luke of Horseheads; also his sister, Betty (Clinton) Smith of
Horseheads. George was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Lizzie Buckley;
also siblings, LaRue, Elmer, Schuyler, Mary, Flora and Jimmy; also several
nieces and nephews. George loved life and loved people and everybody loved him.

78, of Roseville, died at his home Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, surrounded by
his loving family. He was born June 3, 1932, in Fallbrook, a son of
Seymour and Creola (Winn) Carey. Kenneth was the husband of Patricia (Simpson)
Carey for 56 years. He had been employed by Harding Brothers before his
retirement and enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting. Kenneth is survived by
his wife, Patricia; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Kenneth Carey of
Canton, William and Jackie Carey of Westfield, Alan and Sue Carey of Royal Palm
Beach, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Craig Deitrich of Cherry
Flats, Connie and Curtis Moore of Mainesburg; 11 grandchildren, 19

Age 83, of Galeton, PA, formerly of Addison, NY, died
Thursday, September 23, 2010 at home. Born December 20, 1926, in Ulysses, PA,
she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Bessie Mae (Dailey) Carlin. On
September 6, 1947, in Nunda, NY, she married Edward A. Button, Sr., who preceded
her in death. Grace was a homemaker who was a member of the Assembly of God
Church in Galeton. She had been an active member of the Corning Assembly of God
Church for 37 years. She also greatly enjoyed quilting, cooking, fishing,
reading, painting, gardening and playing the piano. Surviving are a son, Edward
A. (Priscilla) Button, Jr., Galeton, PA; four daughters, Marilyn (Randall)
Sutton, Dover, PA, Sharon (Raymond) Hall, The Villages, FL, Rhonda Oyler,
Painted Post, NY, and Robin Corby, Corning, NY; 14 grandchildren; 22 great
grandchildren; three sisters, Sally Kludt, Faith Piraino, and Bessie Dougherty;
and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Grace
was predeceased by a great granddaughter, Adriona Button; three brothers; and

CARPENTER Grace Carpenter GAIGE
90 years young, of Burdett, died
peacefully at her home, of 63 years, with her family by her side, on Friday,
September 17th, 2010. She was the daughter of Millard and Ruth Carpenter, also
life long residents of Burdett. Her family would like express their sincere
thanks to the NHTD Program and all the girls from Stafking and Hospice, who made
it possible for us to honor the wishes of Mom to stay in her home. Grace had
worked for 4-H for many years, helping with Hidden Valley 4-H summer camps,
youth fairs and leading 4-H clubs. She loved sewing and spent many hours sewing
for herself, her children and grandchildren. She was retired from the Watkins
Glen School District. Grace's greatest love was her family and friends. Her
happiest times were whenever they were with her. Christmas was her favorite
holiday, especially with all her children and grandchildren around her. She
loved to work in her yard and flower gardens, swim in her pool, play piano, bake
chocolate chip cookies and rake the fall leaves. She also had a special love for
her cat, Molly and any stray that entered her yard. She was the matriarch for
all of the family and instilled this love of animals, fun vacations, big
gatherings of friends and family and simple quiet evenings on the porch. Grace,
and her zest for life, will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She was
predeceased by her husband, Roland; a sister, Madge Preston, Daughter-in-law
Susan Gaige and Son-in-law Lee Gage. Grace is survived by her daughters, Joyce
Gage, Jeanne (William) Baker; sons, Daniel (Lorraine) Gaige and Thomas Gaige.
She is also survived by her Grandchildren, Jennifer (Russell) Stirrup, Renee`
(Greg) Flaxmayer, Andrew (Yukako Kato) Gage, Jason, Erika, David, James and
Christen Gaige; and Great Granddaughter, Olivia Stirrup; along with many nieces
and nephews. Calling hours will be Friday, September 24th, 6-8pm at
Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen with a funeral service
on Saturday at 2:00pm at the funeral home, followed with burial at Hector Union

COBB Eleanor Edna Cobb Dunbar
85, of Lynchburg, formerly of Troy, Pa., died
Wednesday, September 22, 2010. She was the loving wife of the late Leslie K.
Dunbar for over 20 years. Born April 26, 1925 in Lacyville, Pa. she was a
daughter of the late Olin and Edna Cobb. Eleanor was a loving housewife,
mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a member of Moose Lodge
#1727, Campbell County Rescue Squad Auxillary and was of the Methodist faith.
She loved to cook and was famous for her baked goods and willingness to help
other people. She leaves to cherish her memory two children, Robert Keith
Jennings and wife, Carolyn of Lynchburg and Jackie A. Jennings and wife, Sandra
of Forest; three grandchildren and several great grandchildren; two brothers
Carl Cobb and wife, Fern, Robert Cobb and wife, Ruth; a sister, Esther Walbach
all of Pennsylvania; and other relatives and friends. The family would like to
give many thanks to special friends, Dickie and Donna Porter and the staff of

72, formerly of Millville, Pa., died
on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 in the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.
Born in Bloomsburg, Columbia County, Pa., on Thursday, Nov. 11, 1937, he was
the son of the late Adam and Agatha Craig. Dick was last employed by the
Bloomsburg Silk Mills. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Dick is survived by
one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Alma Reynolds, Montgomery, Pa.; one
daughter and son-in-law, Karmen and Carlos Trabucco, Selma, Texas; one sister,
Virginia Craig; two brothers, Robert Craig; Duck Craig; seven step-children,
Josephine Ryder, Harry "Butch" Reynolds, Annamae Neufer, Paul "Jake" Reynolds,
Sadie Reynolds, Gary Reynolds, Bill Reynolds. He is also survived by six
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by three
brothers, John Craig, Albert Craig and Raymond Craig and one step-son, Richard
"Pete" Reynolds. At Dick's request, there will be no services.

Age 76, of Elmira, NY, died
on Friday September 17, 2010 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, surrounded by her
loving family. She is survived by children, Terry (Carol) Force, and Dawn

DAGGETT Velda Mary (Daggett) Mortensen
went to our Lord on September 24, 2010. Velda was born on October
18th, 1914, the daughter of the late Earl Wayne and Jennette Covert Daggett.
She was forever a homemaker and caregiver, and later in life as a home health
aide. She worked and retired from Michael Sterns Clothing Factory.
She helped run the family farm and did vineyard work for many years also.
She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Velda was
predeceased by her husband, Karl Alfred Mortensen; her siblings of which she was
the oldest and with her mother being gone she raised as her own, Dorotha
Travis, Lillian Bacher, Mildred Jensen, Goldia Lane, Madaline Evangeline
Laursen, Malcolm Daggett, Lyle Daggett, and Wayne Daggett; her great
granddaughter, Nicole Wright and her great grandson, Kayden Wright. She leaves

Sept. 14, 2010 in Farmington, MO. He was born Nov. 2, 1921 in Sparta, NJ. The
son of Jazet and Susie West Dexter. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and
spent 23 years in the Air Force serving his country. He is survived by sons and
daughters-in-law, Peter and Wanda Dexter, Summerville, SC, Richard and Emma
Dexter, Nelson, PA, Paul and Donna Dexter, Elkland, PA, Mark Dexter,
Lawrenceville, PA. Daughters and son-in-law, Susan Williams, Addison, NY. Laurie

77, of South Williamsport, died Thursday, September 23, 2010 at The
Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital. Born October 24, 1932 in Ogdensburg,
she was a daughter of Ernest C. and Laura A. (Clark) Dibble. Jane retired
from GTE-Sylvania. She was a member of South Williamsport United Methodist
Church. She was a neighborhood friend and caregiver to all. Jane enjoyed
walking, reading and completing word puzzles. Jane's greatest joy was spending
time with her husband, children and grandchildren. Jane took the time to find
goodness in everyone she met. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald L.
Hamilton, August 16, 2006 and three siblings, Charlotte, Ernestine, and Richard.
Surviving are three children, Donna L. Beaver (husband Terry) of Halifax,
Michael L. Hamilton (wife Renee') and Ronald L. Hamilton both of South
Williamsport; four grandchildren Candi and Rachel Hamilton, Amanda
Pierce(husband Patrick) and Alex Rinehart(girlfriend Courtney Centrelli; great
grandson Dylan Pierce; a sister Patricia Knauss (late husband Robert) of South

81, of Hughesville, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at the Muncy Valley
Hospital, Skilled Nursing Unit. She was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Bloomsburg, a
daughter of the late Clarence Henry and Olive Elizabeth Beers English. Her
husband of 62 years, William A. Myers, preceded her in death on Aug. 1, 2010.
Iantha was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Hughesville, where she
taught Sunday school for 25 years and was a member of the Busy Bee Class. She
graduated from Hughesville High School, Class of 1947 and served the East
Lycoming School District as a teachers aide and secretary for 23 years, retiring
in 1988. Earlier in life she had worked at the former Hughesville Textile. She
is survived by a daughter, Nancy Grove of Williamsport; two sons, David Myers,
of Hughesville and Gregory (Anne) Myers of Malvern; six grandchildren, Kaylyn,
Rachel and Jessica Myers and Nick, Nathan and Nevin Grove; and her faithful cat
Tony. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the McCarty-Thomas

Corning, N.Y. — John J. “Jack” Graham Jr., 83, of Reynolds Avenue,

veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was an instrument mechanic for the
Corning Inc. Pressware Plant. Survivors include his wife, Barbara McIntyre

peacefully in his sleep at home on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, after a long and
brave battle with cancer. He was born in Nelson, on March 5, 1932, to the
late Paul and Margaret Hamblin. He is survived by Bonnie, his wife of 58 years;
daughters, Koleen (Tim) Short of Lawrenceville, Marilyn (Jerald) Wetherbee of
Mansfield; a son, Rick (Kim) of Mechanicsville, Va. He is also survived by
grandchildren, Melissa (Matt) Bartlett of Arnot, Kori Warriner of Chattanooga,
Tenn., Julie (Dave) Rudinski of Hope Mills, N.C., Amanda (Jeremy) Keck of
Mansfield, Misti (Bryan) Bentley of Ocoee, Tenn., Rebekah (Jason) Vandergrift of
Wellsboro, Jeremy (Natosha) Wetherbee of Monroeton, Dawn (Nate) Hilfiger of
Lawrenceville, Matthew Hamblin of Richmond, Va., Campbell Haden of Richmond,
Va.; and 16 great-grandchildren. Bert was well known for his generous soul and
his love of life. He was quick to offer a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
He loved to square dance and his train whistle will be remembered by many. He
was a dedicated husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Winfield, Ill. — Helen Henry Griffin, former resident of Corning and Big
Flats, died
Tuesday September 7, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield Illinois. She
was born October 29,1921, the daughter of the late William T. and Nell M Henry.
Raised in Corning, NY, Helen graduated from Corning Free Academy in 1939.
She married John "Bud" Griffin on October 27,1945 in St. Patrick's Church. Bud
predeceased her in 1993. Helen was an active member of the Corning Country Club,
and enjoyed traveling around the world. She retired to Florida in 1982,
and continued her active life, enjoying golf, bridge and keeping up with the
accomplishments of her grandchildren. She is survived by her son John (Claudia)
Griffin of Levittown, Pennsyl-vania, her daughter Bettie (John) Hasser of
Elmhurst, Illinois, and grandsons Evan Griffin of Levittown Pennsylvania and
Sean Griffin of Los Angeles California. She was predeceased by her
sisters, Mary Jane Beck, and Catherine Ettenberger. A Memorial Service will be
held in Florida, with a private interment ceremony to be held at St. Mary’s

Age 60, of Swartwood, died Thursday, September 16, 2010 at home. He was born
in Waverly, NY on October 22, 1949, the son of the late William Eugene Hertel
and Garnet Lillian Davis. Champ is survived by his daughter, Shannon (Joseph)
Phillips, Candor; brother, Michael (Christine) Hertel, Cayuta; niece; Jennifer
Hertel and Michael Sundguist; niece, Carrie Hertel and William Carling; nephew,

died
peacefully Saturday, September 18. Kathleen is survived by her loving fiancé
Stephen Braman, her daughter Nichole (Thomas) Cocco, granddaughter Alexis Cocco,
her son Michael Maurey and his father Scott Maurey. She is also survived
by her siblings, Richard (Bonnie) Hunsinger, and Jon Hunsinger. Kathleen’s
parents were the late Jean and Joseph Hale, and grandparents are Marion and the
late John Twoomey. Kathleen is also survived by her aunt and uncle Jackie
and Tony Fascinella, her niece Jessica Hunsinger and great niece and nephew Ryan
Hunsinger and Brittany Root. Kathleen was an avid animal lover. She loved being
with her family and friends, especially the late Denise Hoagland, her best
friend since childhood. She worked at Tioga Downs since it opened
it’s doors and loved her fellow employees as well as the many patrons turned
friends. She will be missed by all her knew her and loved by all who remember

(1933-2010) 77, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother,
passed into the loving arms of God with family at her side Thurs., Sept. 16,
2010. Celebration of life: 2 P.M. Sat., Sept. 25, at Unity Church, 1650 Hughes
Road, Grapevine, TX 75051. Her ashes will be scattered by family. Family asks

Doris (Dorie) was born May 7, 1933 in Painted Post, New York; the daughter of
the late Arthur and Lula Manoogian (Wilcox). She was grateful to have been
raised in a small town and maintained life-long friendships with many of her
fellow classmates from Painted Post High School. Dorie met and married the love
of her life, Bob, while the two worked at Ingersoll-Rand. The newly weds were
transferred to the San Francisco area in 1952; where their four children were
born and raised. Dorie and Bob enjoyed their trips home to the Finger Lakes area
to visit with family and friends. Dorie was a devoted wife, mother and
life-long community volunteer with many organizations, including the American
Cancer Society, county hospital, and PTA. She was named “Woman of the Year” in
Concord, California in 1970. Dorie also loved writing, the arts, and was
involved in community theatre. She had an effervescent personality and a giving
spirit, especially to children, the elderly and those in need. Dorie cultivated
friendships everywhere she went and sustained them by corresponding regularly.
Dorie could find the good in everyone and every situation. She had a gift for
lifting people’s spirits with a touch, a kind word, a hug and a warm smile.
After retirement, Dorie and Bob moved to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area to be closer
to their children and grandchildren. She was proud that her children had a true
concern for mankind; a value that she and Bob instilled. Her family
greatly appreciates the compassionate care provided by many at Ethicus
Grapevine, TX Health-Harris Methodist HEB, and Medical City Hospital, Dallas.

and collecting antiques. Music was a big part of Betty's life. She and her
siblings were blessed to be able to play music by ear. Betty was preceded in
death by her husband, James Bowman; brothers, Henry Mast, Forrest Mast, William
Mast, Kenneth Mast, Charles Mast, Eugene Mast; and sister, Erma Mast McCormick.

Thursday, September 16, 2010 at York Hospital, York, Pa. Born October 29, 1960,

10th wedding anniversary this year. Steve worked in the roofing industry and
also as a self employed electrician. Surviving in addition to his wife are

Quigley McKeown. Marie was the manager of the Fanny Farmer Candy Shop for many
years and retired from Commonwealth Bank where she was employed as a teller. She
was member of the Saint Joseph the Worker Parish, Annunciation Church. Marie
enjoyed dancing and spending time with family and grandchildren. Surviving are
her children, Terry (Susan) Allison of Warminster, Karen Allison of Albany,
N.Y., Virginia (Randy) Moser of Williamsport, Patrick (Beth) Allison of
Williamsport; three sisters Elizabeth Heindl of Williamsport, Louella Witherow

NORTON Dennis G. Norton
62, of Swoyersville, died Sunday morning, September 19, 2010, at the
inpatient unit of Hospice Community Care, Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre. Born in
Sayre, he was the son of the late Gordon and Beatrice (Rinker) Norton. He was a
graduate of Sullivan County High School, class of 1965 and Williamsport Area
College, now Pennsylvania College of Technology. He was employed as a Welder and
with the Laborer's Union Local 130. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War
where he was an amateur boxer. He had a special place in his heart for Candy's
Place and was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan. He was
preceded in death by his brothers, Dwayne and Gary Norton. Surviving are
his daughters, Candace Kelly, Parsons, Tara Norton, Forty Fort and Kelly Norton,
Hudson; a son, Corey Norton, Swoyersville; six grandchildren; a brother, Nevin
Norton, Springville, Pa.; former wife and best friend, Carrie Norton; nephews,
nieces and his dog, Casey. A funeral mass will be held Thursday at 9:30
a.m. at St. Francis Cabrini Church, Carverton. Interment will be in Mount Olivet

Age 69, of Endicott, NY died
suddenly Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at home. She was predeceased by her
parents, Nina and Russell Parry. She is survived by her husband, Edward and
loving children Jamie (John Allen) of Long Beach, Mississippi, Dean (Jennifer)
of Dayton, Ohio, and Michael (Michelle) of Carlisle, Pennsylvania. She also
leaves two beloved grandchildren, Jacob & Lucy, her sister, Georgia (James) Van
Hoesen and two nephews, and devoted friends Douglas Bacon, Ally Sembrat, and
Norma Chase. Barbara was born in Elmira, NY on July 21st 1941, attended Elmira
South Side School, and graduated from Syracuse University, with a degree in
Linguistics, majoring in Russian. She managed a part-time career in sales while
her children were young, then a full time career in teaching (English as a
Second Language and GED), and administrative services at Broome-Tioga BOCES.
Barb was a devoted animal lover, be it her cats Piggie and The Kid, or whatever
wildlife found its way onto her front porch. She had a fun, quirky sense of
humor, and loved searching for The Perfect Gift. A Memorial Service will be held
at 11 am Monday, September 27th at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 East Main

Coopers Plains, N.Y. — Ronald E. Reynolds, age 73, of Coopers Plains, died
on Monday, September 20, 2010 at Corning Hospital. He was born on February 14,
1937 in Woodhull, the son of Charles and Dorothy (Kent) Reynolds. Ronald loved
to be outside in nature, especially fishing, walking to the post office, and
watching the trains go by his house. He was a people person, very loving to
everyone he met, and had a large collection of fish memorabilia. Ronald was
cared for by Roger and Dorothy Webb for 31 years. Ronald is survived by
niece, Dorothy (Roger) Webb of Coopers Plains, NY; great-niece, Christy Webb
Crouch of Corning; great-nephew, Roger Webb, II of Horseheads; great-niece,
Marion Webb-Horton of Campbell; and by several other nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by his sisters, June Jeffers, Lillian Allen, and Marion Wheaton, and
brothers, Louis Burton and Gilbert Reynolds. Calling hours to celebrate Ronald’s

age 69, of Sylvania, PA, a lifetime caregiver went to the care of the Lord
on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA. Peg
was born on November 12, 1940 in East Orange, NJ, the daughter of John and Mary
Richner. She was the wife of John J. Trela. Prior to her retirement, Peg
was employed as a resident manager with the Martha Lloyd School. She was a
member of the Fellowship Bible Church in Troy, PA, where she enjoyed the music
ministry and fellowship. She participated on local election boards and was saved
as a teenager under the ministry of the Salvation Army. Peg also enjoyed crafts,
sewing, crocheting and cross stitch. In addition to her husband, she is
survived by one sister, two sons, three daughters and a son-in-law, ten
grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Family and friends are

61, of Omaha, Neb., died
Monday, September 20, 2010, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born
in Lock Haven January 19, 1949, a son of Louis J. Serafini and Barbara Kouf. He
was a 1967 graduate of Lock Haven High School. For the past seven years he was
employed by White Knight Trucking of Danville. He enjoyed his family, fishing
and driving truck. He was an artist, having his own studio in Neb., and loved
playing guitar. He received national recognition for his school assembly
program, "Puffer and Whispy," a children's anti smoking program. His survivors
include three sons, Mario M. Serafini Jr. (Curisa Ertwine) of Castanea, Anthony
L. Serafini (Mindy) and Marcus A. Serafini (Julie), all of Avis; one sister,
Alicia Andrews of Avis; and one brother, Joseph H. Serafini of Vermont, along
with 14 grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Serafini Jr.
and Herman F. Serafini. Mario's Life Celebration will begin with a visitation on

She was predeceased by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Deana is
survived by: her husband of 61 years, Robert; two daughters, Nancy (Richard Jr.)

the Golden Living Center in Tunkhannock. He was born in Meshoppen on Jan. 23,

H. Shoemaker. He attended Wysox School District and enjoyed music, dancing and
playing bingo. He was a great fan of WWE Wrestling. James was preceded in death

SPALLONE Roslyn (Spallone) Ekes
Dec. 21, 1947—Sept. 6, 2010
Roslyn Ekes, who was long active in the research and treatment of multiple
sclerosis, died Monday in her Holland home after a 42- year battle with the
debilitating disease of the nervous system. She was 62. The former Roslyn
Spallone was born in Elmira and attended Broome County Community College in
Binghamton. Known as “Roz” to her friends and family, Mrs. Ekes began her career
in the chemistry lab at Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital in 1968. About 1975, she
became the laboratory manager for the Dent Neurological Institute at the
hospital and later earned her bachelor of science degree from Empire State
College. Dr. Lawrence Jacobs, a renowned authority in multiple sclerosis
research, took on Mrs. Ekes as patient coordinator for his studies of
intrathecal interferon treatment of multiple sclerosis. Mrs. Ekes was an author
on all of Dr. Jacobs’ earliest studies. Mrs. Ekes then became patient care
coordinator for the Dent Neurological Institute, where she would counsel other
multiple sclerosis patients. She later held the same position at the Kinkel
Neurologic Center until about 1990. She was awarded the Florence Power Award for
exemplary patient care and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s
Inspirational Award. Mrs. Ekes was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church
in Holland. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Paul F.; a son, Karl M.;
her father, Frank Spallone; a sister, Laurene Ostrander; and a brother, Anthony
Spallone. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a. m. Saturday in St.

STOLTZFUS James E. Stoltzfus, Sr.
70, of 221 E. 9th St., Watsontown, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010 in Muncy
Creek Twp. as the result of a vehicle accident. Born October 4, 1939 in
Lancaster, he was a son of the late Stephen Benjamin and Anna Mary (Heller)
Stoltzfus. On May 8, 1960 he married the former Sandra Lee Miller,
who survives. Jim graduated from high school in Lancaster and served in the U.S.
Marine Corps. In 1975 he moved from Lancaster to Milton with Interstate
Trucking. He retired from ABF Trucking, Carlisle, in 2002 after 17 years
of employment with them. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and
camping. Surviving in addition to his wife of 50 years, Sandra Stoltzfus, are
one son, James E. Stoltzfus, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Watsontown; one
grandson, James Stoltzfus III and his wife Samantha of Watsontown; one
great-grandson, Nicholas Stoltzfus; and two sisters, Ruth Byerly and Shirley
Teeter, both of Lancaster. He also leaves behind his Havanese dog, Lexie.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by one brother, John Stoltzfus,
and one sister, Rita Rinaggio. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m.

of John Street, Troy, Pa., died
Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 at the Robert Packer Hospital. Patricia was born
June 16, 1944 in Perkiomenville, Pa., daughter of the late George and Jane
(Knenct) Strickland. She was married to Robert Cowl who survives. Pat was a
member of the Troy American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed music. Her other
interests were fishing and she was an accomplished hunter. Pat enjoyed spending
as much time as she could with her family and adored all her grandchildren.
Survivors include husband Robert Cowl of Troy; daughter, Kathleen (Tower) Saxon
of Troy; two step-daughters, Cynthia Cowl and Deborah Cowl; a brother and

married her husband Thomas Schweiger who pre-deceased her in 1975. Mrs.
Schweiger was also pre-deceased by her daughter Marsha Schweiger in 2008 as well
as her brothers and sisters. Theressa was an avid bowler and Bingo player and
enjoyed gardening and traveling around the world. Mrs. Schwieger is survived by

THOMAS Dorothy Anna Patschke, nee Thomas
died
peacefully on September 20, 2010, at the Reading Hospital, Reading, Pa.,
following a lengthy illness. Prior to her retirement in 1993, Dorothy was an
elementary school teacher at Washington Elementary and Highland Elementary
Schools in Ephrata, Pa. She was also a member of Mellingers Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Stevens-Schoeneck, Pa. Dorothy enjoyed singing in church choirs,
playing cards, a variety of sports, and mostly, spending time with her children,
grandchildren, friends and pets. During her lifetime, Dorothy traveled
extensively including a major trip in the late 90s which took her around the
world. Some of her favorite journeys included visits to China, Kenya, Europe,
Honduras, as well as several cruise ship adventures. Dorothy was married
to the Rev. Franklin E. Patschke (deceased), pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church
on Main St. in Ephrata and Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Walnut St. in Lancaster,
Pa. She was the daughter of the late A. Clara and Norton J. Thomas of
Bloomsburg, Pa. She was also predeceased by a son, Franklin E. Patschke
Jr., who went by the name of Pat; a younger brother, Jack L. Thomas and a
younger sister, Shirley M. Orme. Dorothy is survived by her loving family of
four children, Judith P. Shimp, wife of Robert L. Shimp Jr., Montoursville, Pa.;
David T. Patschke, husband of Charlotte L. Montgomery, Ephrata, Pa.; Deborah A.
Butterworth, wife of Michael P. Butterworth, Shillington, Pa.; and Melissa D.
Patschke, wife of David A. Lord, Exeter Township, Birdsboro, Pa. She is
also survived by three brothers, Richard L. Thomas, Robert E. Thomas and Gordon
V. Thomas. Dorothy's eight grandchildren include: Sarah, Samantha, Alissa,

Age 73, of 105 Mitchell Hollow Road, Odessa, NY, died
unexpectedly, Friday, September 17, 2010 at Schuyler Hospital. She was born
December 11, 1936 in Corning, NY, the daughter of Milton and Margaret Thomas.
She graduated from Corning Free Academy in 1955 and Rochester Business Institute
in 1958. She married "Barnie" Parker on December 23rd, 1961 in Savona, NY and
they lived in Addison, Hilton, and Corning before settling into a long and rich
life in Odessa, where she raised a family, was active in the community and was
glad to live out her days. She was a member of the alter guild and women's
auxiliary at St. Johns Episcopal Church, Catharine, NY. Cis was one of the first
secretaries at Corning Community College. Over her life, she worked in various
jobs, but is best remembered as a County Home Health Aid and where she devoted
herself to many people who became much more like family than clients. She was a
pet lover and animal advocate and delighted in watching any television that
featured four-legged actors. Cis is survived by her husband, Clarence E.
"Barnie" Parker; daughter, Margaret (Kevin) Wager, Lockport, NY; son, Edward
"Andy" Parker, Odessa, NY; grandchildren, Ryan M. DeBruin (Catrina Turner) and

THOMAS Julia Thomas Spencer
of Wellsboro, died on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at her daughter's home in
Arlington, Va. She had pancreatic cancer. She was born on March 3, 1923, in
Lycoming County, the daughter of Robert and Mary Thomas. She graduated from
Wellsboro High School and attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She
worked for a number of years at banks in Wellsboro as well as at her husband's
law firm, Spencer, Gleason, and Hebe. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal
Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren H. Spencer and siblings
Glenn Thomas, Anna Schneider, Dan Thomas, Frederica Miller, Helen Evans and
Jennie Hawk. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Sean
Mulvaney and granddaughters Kate and Rachel Mulvaney of Arlington, Va; her
sister Louise Carson of Sayre; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial
service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal
Church in Wellsboro. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal
Church or to the Pancreas Cancer Research Fund at Johns Hopkins University.

TOMES Janice T. Beck
83, of Athens, Pa., died
Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 at ElderWood at Tioga following an extended illness. She
was born Jan. 4, 1927 in Long Island, N.Y. the daughter of the late Francis P.
and Clara Weissel Tomes. Janice grew up in Baldwin Long Island and
Hillsdale, N.Y. She graduated from high school in Hillsdale in 1945, then
attended the Eastern School for Physicians' Assistants, working as an office
manager for an OBGYN group in Manhattan from 1946 to 1962. She married Dr. Jan
Beck in August of 1955 in Brooklyn, N.Y., moving to the Valley in 1962 where she
resided until her passing. Janice was very active in the Trinity Episcopal
Church where she served on the Vestry for many years. She enjoyed traveling,
classical music, reading, and gardening. After she raised her children, Janice
attended Mansfield University and graduated with honors. After the 1972 flood,
she volunteered with the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development. It was
important to her that the town of Athens and the Valley rebound from the
devastation of the flood. She was a Cub Scout Leader, volunteered at the Robert
Packer Hospital Auxiliary, and many other volunteer organizations. Janice is
survived by her husband of 55 years, Dr. Jan Beck, at home; her children,
Meredith and Eric Mentzel of Eugene, Ore., and Chief Master Sgt. Jan T. and
Nancy Beck of McGuire Air Force Base, N.J.; grandchildren, Cherise and Aaron Hug
of Anchorage, Alaska, David and Amanda Beck of Lindon, Utah, Airman 1st Class
Erika Beck of Travis Air Force Base, Calif., and Alex Mentzel of Eugene, Ore.;
great-grandchildren, Mason and Vincent Hug of Anchorage, Alaska; brother Francis
Tomes of Arriba, Colo.; and two nephews. At Janice's request there will be
no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the
family. Arrangements are under the care of Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home Inc.,
Athens, Pa. The family would like to thank the aides, nurses and staff at
Elderwood at Tioga, for their kindness, consideration and professionalism.

TWOOMEY Jackie Ann Twoomey Fascinella
77, wife of Anthony “Tony” Fascinella of 368 Loder St., South Waverly, Pa.,
died
Thursday, September 23, 2010 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.
Jackie was born in Sayre on October 12, 1932, the daughter of Marion “Mamie”
Davies Twoomey and the late John F. “Jack” Twoomey Jr. She was a graduate of
Sayre High School and was employed by the New York Telephone Company for 10
years. On August 14, 1954, she married Anthony Fascinella at the Church of the
Epiphany in Sayre. Jackie was later employed by the Guthrie Clinic in Sayre for
10 years. She was a member of the Church of the Epiphany in Sayre. Jackie
enjoyed spending time with her family and playing solitaire. Jackie was an avid
Notre Dame fan. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Anthony “Tony”
Fascinella at home; her mother, Marion Davies Twoomey of Sayre; a son and
daughter-in-law, Mike and Ann Fascinella of Sayre; three grandchildren, Anthony
Peterson of Athens, Michael Fascinella of Athens, Krystine Fascinella of Sayre;
seven great-grandchildren, Miranda, Anthony, Kasidy, Jared, Kaylee Ann, Brayden
and Dominic; nephews, Jon Hunsinger, Rick Hunsinger and his wife Bonnie; and
several great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her
father, John F. Twoomey on January 2, 2004; sister, Jean Hale on April 13, 2009;
and niece, Kathleen Hunsinger Maurey on September 18, 2010. The family will
receive friends on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home, 314
Desmond St. Sayre, Pa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday,
September 28, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany, South Elmer
Avenue, Sayre. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery, Waverly, N.Y.

VOGNETZ Charlotte M. Vognetz
80, of 245 E. 8th St., Watstontown, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at Kramm
Nursing Home, Watsontown. Born Oct. 5, 1929 in Gregg Twp., Union County, she was
a daughter of the late Luther and Hattie (Johnson) Vognetz. Charlotte was a
member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Watsontown. She enjoyed
sitting on her front porch in her rocking chair watching traffic go by.
Surviving are a brother, Jack Vognetz of Watsontown; two sisters, Jean Tyson of
New Columbia and Martha Taylor of Watsontown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by one sister, June McClintock
Hassinger, and three brothers, Robert, Allen and William Vognetz. A graveside
service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Cemetery, New Columbia. The
family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to

WANCK Walter Eugene Wanck
of Naples, Fla., and Saratoga Springs, N.Y., crossed over gently, Sept. 20,
2010 in Naples at age 90 of rapidly progressing pancreatic cancer. Until less
than a month before death he was in his usual excellent health. Despite the
quickness of death, he was able to emotionally and spiritually prepare himself
for it and accept it. He did so in his typical authentic, friendly and loving
style. He was known best by relatives, friends and acquaintances for his
profound loving kindness which he radiated in an entirely nonjudgmental and
embracing manner. He was born at home in rural northern Pennsylvania where he
was raised with his older brother, Bob and his sister Marg. Although he attended
church, nature was his true church where he said he could most easily find and
enjoy the presence of God in all things. He attended high school in Towanda,
Pa., where he met Beatrice Dewey, to whom he was lovingly devoted in marriage
for 66 years until her passing three years ago. One year after her passing he
fell in love with Carolyn who'd been a dear friend of his and Beas for 20 years.
Following his marriage to Bea, they moved around the south before Walt attended
the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia from which he graduated in
1949. Partly because of having poor vision himself he followed the calling of
helping others to have improved vision. They moved to Waynesboro, Pa., and
raised their son Bick while Walt practiced Optometry for nearly 40 years. Their
only child, Bick went to college as a varsity swimmer at Penn State, graduated
from medical school and practices Psychiatry in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. where he
lives with his wife Ramona. Walt's family includes his granddaughters, Kristen
Tracy-Wanck and Sarah Tracy-Wanck, now in their 20's, who he dearly cherished,
and loved. He lived in Naples, Fla., near his loving nephew, Jim and his wife,
Claudia and their children, Nicholas and Robert who were like children and
grandchildren to him. Walt dearly loved all his nephews and niece and their
families. His nephews include Ronald Wanck of Athens, Pa., Deborah Singer of
Waynesboro, Pa., who predeceased him, Jack McCracken of Forrest Hills, Md., Jeff
McCracken of Waynesboro, Pa., and Raymond and Jeffrey Dewey of the Richmond, Va.
area. Walt dearly loved all of them and their families. Services will be held at
6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23, at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens,

71, of 2444 Liberty Corners Road, Towanda, Pa., died
early Tuesday morning Sept. 21, 2010 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre,
Pa. Born Nov. 21, 1938, in Sayre, Pa., he was a son of the late Leon and
Dorothy Wanck Weaver. Ron was a graduate of Towanda High School Class of 1956.
In 1957, he became employed by Penelec until his retirement in 1995. On July 2,
1960, he married the former Beverly Ann Hughes, in the Monroeton United
Methodist Church. Ron was a member of the Liberty Corners United Methodist
Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Surviving are his wife,
Beverly Weaver, at home; his children and their spouses, Paul and Jeanette
Weaver of East Smithfield, Pa., Dale and Wendy Weaver of South Carolina, Ronald
and Patty Weaver of Wysox, Pa., Mary and Lee Chase of Evergreen, Pa.; five
grandchildren, Alex and Sam Weaver, Randy and James Chase, and Fawn Weaver; a
brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Patty Weaver of Durell, Pa.; his sister,
Lucille Pennay of Wysox, Pa.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In
addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Virginia
Francisco. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010

WEHLER Robert E. Wehler\
70, of 515 Hill St., South Williamsport, died Saturday, September 18, 2010,
at Sycamore Manor. Born May 19, 1940, in Williamsport, he was the son of Edward
and Mildred Hess Wehler. He was married for 44 years to his wife, Jane R.
(LeFeber) Wehler. He was a 1958 graduate of Williamsport High School and
had attended Lycoming College. Bob starting working for his father's
carpet cleaning business at the age of 12, and he became owner of Eddie Wehler &
Son Carpet Cleaning in 1975 which he owned until his retirement in 2006. He had
attended East End Baptist Church for 40 years where he held various positions
within the church before attending his current church, Clinton Baptist Church.
Bob was an avid bowler, a member of various local bowling leagues, and was a
member of the 700 Club. He was on the State Champion Bowling Team in 1974 and
was initiated into the Lycoming County Bowlers Hall of Fame in March of 2000. He
enjoyed watching Lycoming College football and basketball, as well as Penn State
football. Surviving in addition to his wife, are two children, Bruce A. Wehler
(Donna) of Williamsport and Pamela J. Steele of Williamsport; grandchildren,
Jennifer, William, Roy, Chad, Brett, Lonnie, Erick, Jeremy, John;
great-grandchildren, Alexander, Brianna, Benjamin, Amaya and his special little
buddy Jeffrey "Bug;" and a sister, Sheryl Thornton of Russell, Pa. He was
preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey L. Wehler in 1999, and a
great-granddaughter, Alana K. Wehler in 2009. Visitation will be held 11
a.m. to noon Wednesday followed by funeral services at noon at Sanders Mortuary,
821 Diamond St., Williamsport, with Bob's brother-in-law, Larry LeFeber, and
son, Bruce Wehler, co-officiating. Burial will be private in Wildwood Cemetery.

Age 95 of Horseheads died
Sept. 13, 2010. Born Mary Louise Welles to parents, Matthias Hollenbeck and
Edith Minier Welles in Big Flats, NY in 1915, she was predeceased by her parents
and sister, Eleanor Welles Henkel. She was married in 1940 to H. Edwin Hahn and
was widowed in 1978. She married Rollin L. Perry in 1985 and was again widowed
in 1992. Mary is survived by son Steven W. Hahn of Reston, VA and daughter,
Margaret Hahn Rindge of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Peter W. (Jessica) Hahn
of Arlington, VA; Andrew R. Hahn of Reston, VA; John W. Rindge of Horseheads, NY
and Anne Marie Rindge of Charlottesville, VA. Mary was graduated from Elmira
Free Academy in 1933 and Michigan State University in 1937. She retired from her
position as a parole officer from NYS Division of Parole in 1976. Contributions

WHITTIG George J. Whittig
age 88, of 30 Dodge Ave., Waverly, New York died
Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pennsylvania.
Born December 25, 1921 in Barton, New York. George was a police officer for the
Los Angeles Police Dept. for over 40 years until his retirement from the force.
After his retirement he moved back to the valley and was employed as a security
guard for the I.R in Athens, Pennsylvania until his full retirement. He is
survived by his 10 children: Ira, George, Donald, Charles, Russell, Joanne,
Frances, Albert, Richard, and Robert and his many grand and great grand
children. George is predeceased by parents, brothers and sisters, and son Monte.
Due to George’s wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral services. In
lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to one’s favorite charity.

92, of Rauchtown, Pa., died
September 20, 2010, at his home. His wife, the former Catharine H. Hampe Wolfe,
preceded him in death in 1991. They had been married for 49 years. Earl was born
August 4, 1918, in Oriole, Pa., and the son of Lawrence and Edith Wolfe. Also
remembered are his two sons, Samuel Lawrence and Wayne Rusty Wolfe, who preceded
him in death, and a brother, Paul Wolfe of Oriole. He is survived by three
daughters, Patrice J. Hanford of Rauchtown, Pa., Linda K. Temple of Allenwood,
Pa. and Bonnie M. Plant of Oak Island, N.C. He had seven grandchildren, LaVern

Italy. He also had seven great-grandchildren, Maggie Reading, Harrisburg, Pa.,

Reese and Madelynn Reese, Muncy, Pa., Leah Bell, Milan, Pa.; and three step
great-grandchildren, Ashley Terwilliger, Miami, Fla., James and Elaine Plant of
Gaeta, Italy. Earl was retired from the former Anchor Darling Valve of
Williamsport, where he was a welder, a crane operator and retired as a drill
press operator. During the war he worked for Piper Aircraft as a welder. He
attended Oval Elementary School and Jersey Shore High School and was a member of
St. James Lutheran Church of Rauchtown. He was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman
and a very active member of the Nippenose Valley Volunteer Fire Company in the
early 50s and 60s. A memorial service will be held at the Oval Cemetery at
2 p.m. on Sunday, September 26, 2010. In lieu of flowers, the family has

YONO Paul J Jr.
Lakeland, Fla. — Paul J. Yorio, Jr., 66, previously a resident of Corning,
NY for 60 years, died peacefully on September 17, 2010 at his home in Lakeland,
FL. Paul was born in the family home on First Street in Corning, NY on
October 3, 1943 to Paul Yorio, Sr. and Mary (Yaboni) Yorio. After
graduating from Corning Free Academy High School, Paul joined the U.S. Navy and
studied Communications, becoming a Third Class Radioman. He served his
country for four years and three months. He returned to Corning where he
married his wife, Lynda (Husick) on September 16, 1967. He worked in the
Security Department for the Corning Glass Works for thirty-six years. Paul
will be most remembered for his zest for life and his dedication to his family.
He was raised in a large tight-knit family who maintained many family
traditions. Throughout his life, he strived to preserve the family traditions
and spend quality time with his loved ones. He is survived by his loving
wife of fourty-three years, Lynda; son, Michael (Ellen) Yorio of Lakeland, FL;
daughter, Christine (James) Williams of Corning, NY; grandchildren, Jaymie
Carpenter, Morgyn and Jon Yorio of Lakeland, FL; brothers, Peter (Jaye) Yorio of
Cincinnati, OH; sisters, Frances (Richard) Dillon of Enon, OH, Jeanette (David)
Currie and Loretta Yorio both of Painted Post, NY, and Mary Ann Cross of
Milford, OH; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will take
place at the Church of Resurrection in Lakeland, FL on Sat., Sept. 25 at 1 PM.

ZIMMERMAN Clarence Zimmerman Zimmerman, Sr.,
was born on April 13, 1930, in Lancaster County. He was united in marriage
on Dec. 11, 1954, to Verna (Hoover) Kurtz of Lebonan. They moved to Wellsboro
April 29, 1969. After a period of declining health, he passed quietly from this
life at his home in Wellsboro, on Sept. 21, at the age of 80 years, five months
and eight days. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and
Hettie (Zimmerman) Zimmerman; two sisters, Martha and Edna (Abram) Zimmerman;
and one son, Clair Kurtz Zimmerman. He is survived by his wife, Verna (Kurtz)
Zimmerman; one sister, Elsie (Ray) Zimmerman of Ephrata; 11 children, Rachel
(Lester) Hege of Wellsboro, Marion (Robert) Kochersperger of Wellsboro, Arlene
Zimmerman of Wellsboro, Verna Mae (John) Martin of Wellsboro, Alvin (Mary)

grandson. He was a faithful member of the Stony Fork Mennonite Church. He will
be keenly missed by his family and friends. His testimony lives on to all who
have been challenged and encouraged by his faithfulness to the Lord. Viewing

will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25. Both will be held at Stony Fork
