The People of the State of New York by the Grace of God Free and Independent: To Daniel VanCampen Administrator of the Town of Chemung in the County of Tioga Greeting: Whereas due proof having been made before Caleb Baker Esq Surrogate of oour County of Tioga to his satisfaction That John VanCampen late of the Town of Chemung in said County is dead and as is alledged lately died intestate having whilst living and at the time of his death goods, Chattels and credits within this State by means whereof the ordering and granting Administration of all and singular the goods, Chattels and credits of the said deceased, and also the auditing and allowing and final discharging the account thereof doth belong unto us, and we being desitoous that the goods. Chattels and credits of the said deceased may be well and faithfully administered, applied and disposed of, do grant unto you the said Daniel VanCampen full powers by the presents to administer and faithfully to dispose of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits: to ask, demand and recover the debts which unto the said deceased whilst living and at the time of his death did belong: And also to pay the debts which the said deceased did owe, so far as such goods, Chattels and credits will thereunto extend and the Law require.  Hereby requiring you to make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods, chattels and Credits of the said deceased which have come to your hands, profession or knowledge and the same so made do exhibit or cause to be exhibeted into the office of the Surrogate of the county of Tioga at or before six calendar month from the date hereof, and also to under a just and true account of administration when thereunto legally required. And we do by these presents (depute?) constitute and appoint you the said Daniel VanCampen Administrator of all and singular the goods, chattels and Credits which were of John VanCamp diceased: In testimony whereof we have caused the seal of office of our Surrogate to be hereunto affixed Witness Caleb Baker Esq Surrogate of our County the seventeenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty six and of the independence of the United Sates the fiftieth.Recorded May 17th 1826     Caleb baker Surrogate
 
I found this document at the current county seat of Tioga County New York. Also, it may be of interest to note that in the 1825 census in the household of Daniel VanCampen Jr. that it is stated one death in preceding year of one male. I hope this document transcription will be of some historical interest. Jean Bond
