 He married twice.  He married Harriet "Hattie" Bradford 18 OCT 1865 in Mainesburg, Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.   Tioga County Agitator - Oct 18th 1865 issue: Married in Mainesburg at the Parsonage, 15th instant by Rev. R. Macwood, Mr. Addison S. Ashley & Miss Hattie E. Bradford, both of Sullivan. (Harriet "Hattie" Bradford is #9526.)

 Hattie was born 1844 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  Hattie was the daughter of Dr.  Joseph Reynolds Bradford and Mary F. Merrill.  Hattie died 16 SEP 1874 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age 30.  Her body was interred SEP 1874 in Mainesburg Cemetery, Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.   Harriett Bradford married an Ashley per 1897 history. Sterne Ashley married a Hattie born 1844 as Harriett Bradford was.

 He married Maryett Fletcher * 1875.  (Maryett Fletcher* is #7880.)  Maryett was born 1850 in Pennsylvania.  Maryett died 1924 at age 74.  Her body was interred 1924 in Mainesburg Cemetery, Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.   Maryett was listed as Sterne Addison Ashley's wife on the 1880 Census in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.   The household of Sterne and Maryett includes both his widowed father and widowed aunt.

 Maryett, as Sterne Addison Ashley's wife, resided with him in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1908.   Addison and Mariette were listed as a retried farmers with a life lease. A newspaper report recounts that Mariett fell down the stairs in 189x putting  her shoulder out of joint and causing other cuts and bruises.

 Sterne was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  This house is at top of Ashley Hill in Sullivan still named for this family.

 Sterne was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.   The household of Sterne and Maryett includes both his widowed father and widowed aunt.

 Sterne was listed in a directory in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1899.   Ashley Addison S (Mainesburg) r 63, dairy 40 cows and farmer, 185 acres

 He resided in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1908.   Addison and Mariette were listed as a retried farmers with a life lease. Sterne's wife in 1870 is Hattie and in 1880 it is Maryett.   Have included all children prior to 1874 as Hattie's since she died then. Sgt. Co.C 50th NY ENG

      2  i.  Florence L.2 Ashley (#7874) was born in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1866.  Florence was listed as a daughter in Sterne Addison Ashley's household on the 1880 Census in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.   The household of Sterne and Maryett includes both his widowed father and widowed aunt.
      3  ii.  Forest Joseph Ashley (#7875) was born in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1867.
      4  iii.  Addison Berne Ashley (#7876) was born in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1871.
      5  iv.  Merton Welch Ashley (#7877) was born in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 7 JUL 1872.  He married Margaret L. Stauffer 12 JUL 1902.  (Margaret L. Stauffer is #9726.)  Maggie was born 12 DEC 1873 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  Maggie was the daughter of George Edward Stauffer and Alice Malvina Dewey.  She married Merton G. Rorabaugh *.  Maggie, as Merton Welch Ashley's wife, resided with him in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1908.   M. Welch Ashley and wife Margaret C. - General Merchant & Postmaster. Directory includes an advertisement for his store in Mainesburg. One source gave her husband as Merton Rorabaugh. Harding genealogy, which includes dates gibes Merton Ashley. The latter is more likely unless there were two, then it is unlikely they had the same first name.
    He resided in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1908.   M. Welch Ashley and wife Margaret C. - General Merchant & Postmaster. Directory includes an advertisement for his store in Mainesburg.
      6  v.  Bertha M. Ashley (#7878) was born in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1874.

 Sterne Addison Ashley and Maryett Fletcher* had the following children:

      7  vi.  Mariett Ashley (#13210) was born in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1875.  Mariett died 6 NOV 1875 in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age unknown.  Her body was interred NOV 1875 in Mainesburg Cemetery, Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  Not recorded in 1998 reading of cemetery.
      8  vii.  Elbert F. Ashley (#7879) was born in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1877.
