These clippings from ancient and fragile newspapers stored above the Troy Gazette-Register office are being typed by Tri-County volunteers for presentation on site. Primarily we are preserving the neighborhood news columns and the obituary, marriage and birth information included in them. I intend also to include articles that show the influences on the lives and attitudes of our local populations at the time, and I will also illustrate the individual pages with ads from the era. Nothing is more revealing of lifestyle than the goods and services available.
The TGR covers the area of all townships surrounding Troy and many neighborhoods have a local column submitted, but not necessarily every week or even every year.
Our thanks goes to the staff of the Troy Gazette-Register for giving us access to this valuable old news so that we can share it with you. There is no better way to understand the culture and customs of our old communities than by sifting through these clippings.  Even the names of some of these old communities have ceased to exist in today's world, but we have them captured and preserved here.  If you do not have the time to enjoy the luxury of sifting through clippings, these will be included in the Search Engine which you can reach from the "Front Door" of the Tri-County Genealogy & Historysites by Joyce M. Born to Mr. and Mrs. W. F. DRAKE, a nine pound girl, Feb. 25, 1913.

Will ELWOOD of Bentley Creek, is assisting S. C. PATTERSON getting wood for a few days.

J. W. PATTERSON and Gertrude HARKNESS of Springfield, were making calls on relatives one day last week.

The following were on the sick list: Vivian DRAKE, Elda and Glen MASON, Hilda and John MASON, Mrs. Mary MASON, Mrs. Elmer ROE, Julia ROE and Lena FURMAN. All are better at this writing.

Mrs. A. C. DRAKE is helping care for her daughter and little granddaughter.

Mr. and Mrs. J. M. MASON and children visited the latter’s sister, Mrs. Dell POTTER at Mosherville recently.

Mr. and Mrs. Orland DUBERT, expect to move soon to Berrytown where he will work for Ralph HARKNESS the coming season.

Floyd VAUGHN of Columbia X Roads, is moving on the Culp farm.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank ELLIOTT of Elmira, are visiting relatives and friends in Berrytown and Checkerville.

Mrs. W. F. DRAKE, who has been seriously ill, is slightly improved at this writing.

Mrs. Elmer ROE is caring for her father, Dwight MORLEY, of Wellsburg who is seriously ill.

Miss Ellen WALSH of Watkins, is visiting her brother, Thomas WALSH.

Miss Alice POTTER of Mosherville, is visiting her aunt, Mrs. J. M. MASON.

Murray VanSCOUTEN of Burlington has taken up his new duties as mail carrier for R. F. D. 60. Mr. ALLEN who has been substitute for some time has returned to his home. The patrons regretted to have him go.

Mr. and Mrs. Budd FURMAN and Miss Minna PATTERSON spent Sunday at the home of their uncle, J. W. PATERSON, in Springfield.

Checkerville school closed last Wednesday. Miss Bertha YOUMAN teacher.

Walter FURMAN and son Howard, spent Wednesday in Elmira.

Robert UTTER and son Claud, of Leona, have taken possession of the Oriole’s Nest on Dr. W. R. CAMPBELL’s timber tract, where they have commenced to peel bark and anyone wanting employment, call at the business office at Abide Awhile cottage.

A little guest came last Friday to make her permanent home with Mr. and Mrs. John M. MASON, of this place. The little Miss will be known as Louise.

Mrs. Lovina BOUGHTON and son Raymond and Pearl Hakes went to Sayre Sunday to visit the latter’s mother, Mrs. Edward HAKES.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward HAKES spent Sunday with the formers parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hiram HAKES of Fassett, and were accompanied home by Mrs. Hakes to spend the week.

W. F. DRAKE spent Tuesday and Wednesday with his father, A. C. DRAKE of Smithfield, who is ill with rheumatism.

The late Mrs. Walter MASON of Laurel Hill was brought here on Wednesday for burial.

Mr. and Mrs. J. H. MASON were called to Bardwell Monday on account of the serious illness of her aunt, Mrs. Mary Wigstin, who has pneumonia.

Mrs. Walter FURMAN is caring for her mother, Mrs. Julia CLARK of Bentley Creek, who is ill.

Mrs. Rena and Norma ELLIOTT spent Sunday with their sisters, Mrs. W. F. DRAKE and Mrs. A. E. MASON.

Mrs. Mary MASON has returned after spending the week with her brother, J. W. PATTERSON of Springfield.

When William LITTLE and Sidney ELLIOTT meet lately they say "good morning, grandpa." There is a reason, a brand new boy up in Erin. The baby’s papa is Frank Elliott and its mamma is Mrs. Beatrice LITTLE ELLIOTT. Both of the happy grandpas are doing as well as could be expected and the grandson will be known as William Sidney.

Mr. and Mrs. Burley WARD and daughters, Hazel, Nellie and Marie spent Sunday with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. WHIPPLE.

Mr. and Mrs. J. H. MASON were pleasant callers at the latter’s aunt’s Mrs. Mary WIGSTIN of Bardwell.

Mrs. Elmer ROE spent Saturday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. MORLEY of Wellsburg.
