OUR PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS
A Complete List of the Doctors Registered in the County
At its last session the Legislature of this state (Pennsylvania) passed a law that any person who shall practice medicine or surgery for gain, fee or reward shall be a graduate of a legally chartered medical college or university having authority to confer the degree of doctor of medicine, except such persons as have been in the practice of medicine or surgery within the Commonwealth since 1871. The Act further provides that every practitioner shall present to the Prothonotary of the county where he may reside his medical diploma, together with a copy of the same, and that the Prothonotary shall enter in a register the name of the practitioner, his place of nativity and of residence, the name of the college or university conferring the degree that the practitioner may desire to put on record in the case of a practitioner having no degree the Prothonotary shall also enter the time of continuous practice in this Commonwealth and the place or places where such practice was pursued.
This Act went into effect on the first of July (1881), and since that time sixty nine physicians and surgeons residing in this county have been registered at the Prothonotary’s Office. As a matter of general public interest we present below an abstract of the facts registered in relation to each practitioner the names being arranged in alphabetical order for more convenient reference.
