BOWEN FAMILY CEMETERY
CHARLESTON TOWNSHIP TIOGA COUNTY, PA.
The following list is part of the Tioga County Cemetery Inscriptions Volume 7. Readings were done in the 1970s.
Copied May 8, 1975. The Bowen Family Cemetery is located on Route 646 Mudge Road off Route 660 about 1.9 miles. Turn off on Miller Hill Road. On Property owned by M.D. Rose, R. D. 1 Mansfield, Pa.
Earlier information placed this cemetery in Richmond township, but it is on the Charleston side of the town line. I (Joyce M. Tice) have been to the cemetery and it is several miles from the Charleston-Richmond line well within Charleston.

HARRY R. ATHERTON age 98 a resident of the Broad Acres Nursing Home, Wellsboro, PA, Monday August 18, 1986 at the nursing home. Friends may call at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, Wellsboro, PA, Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral and committal services will be held there, Wednesday 2 p.m. The Rev. S. Wade Stewart officiating. Burial, Bowen Cemetery. Survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Robert (Jane) Curry of Puxsutawney, PA, Mrs. Allan (Margaret) Davis of Wellsboro, PA; son, Harry D. Atherton of RD 2, Beaver Dams, NY; 2 foster daughters, Mrs. Barbara Heck of Wellsboro, PA and Mrs. Marian Losinger of Westfield, PA; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandson. Mr. Atherton was born April 6, 1888 in Wellsboro, PA, the son of Gilbert and Margaret McInroy Atherton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie (Whittemore) who died April 12, 1970. He was a retired merchant. He owned and operated a sporting goods store on Crafton St., Wellsboro, PA. He was a member of the Wellsboro Presbyterian Church. Elmira Star-Gazette 8/19/1986
BOWEN MARGARET
Wellsboro Gazette, Tioga, PA-- Thursday, January 17, 1929
After a long illness, Mrs Margaret Bowen Douglas aged 82, died at the home of
Sanford Copp, on the Mansfield Rd., Tuesday night. Funeral arrangements are
incomplete. Mrs Douglas was born near Cherry Flats and lived in that section
all her life. She was a staunch member of the Baptist Church, in which body she
was an earnest and active worker. Neighbors and friends loved and respected Mrs
Douglas as an intelligent friendly woman. She is survived by one sister Martha
Kimball; two sons, Will Douglas of Covington and Lewis Douglas; and one
daughter, Mrs Sanford Copp of Wellsboro. Miss Leona Copp and Mrs Harry Atherton
of Wellsboro are grandchildren.
COPP, Graydon S.
Age 75, of RD 1 Mansfield, Pa, passed away July 7, 2002 at Broad Acres Nursing
Home, Wellsboro, Pa. He was born November 27, 1926 in Charleston Township, the
son of Stephen and Minnie Bowen Copp. Graydon was a retired farmer and lifelong
resident of Charleston Township. He is survived by several cousins, including
Hazel Copp of Charleston Township and special friends, Leonard and Barbara Gee
of Covington, PA; and Alfred and Louise Smythe of Cherry Flats. In addition to
his parents, he was p0redeceased by a brother, William Bowen Copp, and a sister,
Ida Mae Blanchard. Friends are invited to call at the Wilston Funeral Home, 18
N. Main St., Mansfield, PA, Tuesday, Noon 1 p.m.. Funeral services will
follow there Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Kirk Smethers officiating. Burial
in Bowen Cemetery.
KIMBALL, Edith Baity - Mrs. Edith Kimball Baity, aged 35 years, died Jan. 16 at her home in New Jersey. The remains were brought here Saturday and the funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the home of her mother, Mrs. Kimball, at Roundtop, Rev. E. S. Cole of Delmar, officiating. She is survived by her husband, Carl Baity, her mother and one sister. Wellsboro Agitator, 22 Jan 1919
LEONARD LORENA G. COPP
Lorena G. (Leonard) Age 69, of Mansfield, PA, died on Monday, June 11, 2007, in
Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA. Lorena was born on
February 18, 1938 in Tioga, PA, the daughter of John and Mazie (Evarts)
Leonard. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence M. Copp, on June 29,
2000. Lorena is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jim (Sheryl
Boccaleri) and Bob Copp of Mansfield, PA; four daughters and sons-in-law, Susan
(Gary Woodruff) Hilfiger of Mansfield, PA, Missy and William Stebbins of
Killeen, TX, Tammi Eddy of Lancaster, PA, Vicki (Donald Johns) Copp of Mansfield,
PA; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Rose Heilman of Williamsport, PA;
two sisters and brother-in-law, Vivian and Maynard Mosher of Lawrenceville, PA,
Mary M. Keeney of Farmington, NY; sixteen grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are
invited to call on Saturday, June 16, 2007, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at
the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC, 637
South Main Street, Mansfield, PA 16933. A funeral service will be held
immediately following the viewing at Noon at the funeral home. Burial will be
in Bowen Cemetery, Tioga County, PA. The family requests that memorial
contributions be made to the funeral home to assist with expenses.
SPENCER MRS. OLIVE M. COPP, 49, of Wellsboro
RD 3, Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1958. She was a member of the Church of Christ,
Grover, Pa., Survived by husband, Linden Copp; daughters, Mrs. William
McCauley of Grover and Mrs. Stuart Copp Jr. of Wellsboro; son, Bradley Copp at
home/ father, Benjamin F. Spencer of Beaver Falls, Pa.; sisters, Mrs. Lyle
Davenport of Hawthorne, Fla., Mrs. Clyde Palmer of Alba, Pa., Mrs. Dale
Davenport of Beaver Falls, Mrs. Harry Bennett of Waverly and Mrs. Desmond
Morgan of Toledo; brothers, Benjamin Spencer Jr. of Waverly, James Spencer of
Sylvania, Ohio and Cecil Spencer of Elmira; three grandchildren. Body at
Shaw & Robena Funeral home, Mansfield. Calling hours after 5 p.m.

WARD Hazel W. Copp
88, of Mansfield, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at home.
She was born Jan. 15, 1925, in Lewis Run, the daughter of Burley and Dorothy
Lent Ward. Hazel is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Linda
Copp of LaSelva Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Sandra West of Wellsboro; a brother,
Robert (Leona) Ward of Wellsboro; a grandson, Robert (Cynthia) West of
Mansfield; three granddaughters, Susan (George Knapp) West of Wellsboro, Sara
(Trent) Miller of Pleasant Hill, Calif., Erin Copp of Santa Cruz, Calif.; six
great- grandchildren, Tilly and Bryan Miller, Justin Whelchel, Cole Knapp,
William and Courtney Wilson. She was predeceased by her husband, Aaron in 1994;
two brothers, Kenneth and Edgar Ward; and a sister, Elizabeth Rae. Private
funeral services will be held at the Gary W. Wilston Funeral Home &
Cremation Service, 130 S. Main St., Mansfield, with the Rev. Eugene Charsky
officiating. Burial will be in Bowen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions in Hazel's memory may be made to the Animal Care Sanctuary, 11765
