HANFORD'S

ELMIRA STREET DIRECTORY.

Descriptive list of streets, giving exact locality of any particular number sought for in any street and the most direct way of reaching it, as it shows near what cross street the number you may want may be found, and thus saves unnecessary trouble.

For example: You may wish to know what part of East Water street number 505 is. Looking at the column of figures under East Water street, you do not find 505, but you do find that 501 is on the corner of Madison avenue and 551 on the corner of Dewitt street; therefore 505 East Water street must be between Madison avenue and Dewitt street on the left side, as the even numbers are on the right side, so in going to the place you would not pay any attention to the numbers until you reached Madison avenue. When the streets are not numbered dashes (-----) are used to indicate whether the streets run from the right, left or across.
