He married JESSE AVERY COOK 22 Feb 1893 in Potterville, PA, daughter of AVERY COOK and THERSA DARLING. She was born 13 May 1872 in Potterville, Orwell Twp., BRADFORD, PA, and died 11 Jan 1938.

Andrew and Jessie had six children: Blanche, Bernice, Gladys, Avery (Jack), Dean (Dick), and Delphine. Uncle Andrew was the son of Iram Manchester, born in Renssalaer County, New York. He married Harriet Pendleton. They lived most of their lives farming in Warren and Orwell, and had ten children, forty-eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren when he died. During the Civil War, he served in the New York Volunteers. His children wer: Andrew, Ernest, George, Edwin, Francis, Charlotte, Bertha, Alverdo, Mary, and Harriet.
After their marriage, Uncle Andrew and Aunt Jessie migrated to Negraska, where his two brothers Alverdo and George had moved. They homesteaded in North Loup, living in a primitive sod house. Blanche and Bernice were born there. Dogged with illness and homsick for the beautiful green hills of Bradford county and the folks back home, they returned and farmed first in Potterville, where Gladys, Avery, and dean were born, and then in Union, New York, where Delphine was born, and finally back to Bradford County about 1905, where they acquired a very good farm in Warrenham, about four miles from Warren Center. They lived here most of their lives. The farm was later taken over by the U. S. Government for a game preserve.
Obituary:
Andrew P. Manchester, 71, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wilbur Barnes of Warren Center Thursday afternoon, Oct. 31, 1940. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 o'clock at Potterville Church. Burial will be in Darling Cemetery. Rev. Hugh Jones and Rev. Theron Zimmerman will officate. He is survived by four daughters and two sons, Mrs. Barnes of Warren Center, Mrs. Leo Edsall of Potterville, Mrs. Albert Dewing of Warren Center, Mrs. Lewis Arnold of Warren Center, Avery Manchester of Endicott and Dean "Dick" Manchester of Potterville. The body is at the Pinnock Funeral Home in LeRaysville where friends may call.

The funeral of Andrew Manchester was held here in the church on Nov. 3. A large group of friends, filled the church to overflowing with the Rev. Hugh Jones, a former pastor, and the Rev. Theron Zimmerman, officiating. Mr. Manchester was held in high esteem in his church, home and social life. He had spent some years in the west and at Union and at Warren Center and Potterville of late years.
Aunt Jessie was a sparkling, warm person, always helping others with a welcomed cherfulness. Uncle Andrew suffered from asthma; every night he hunched over "Asthmoloc" smoke to ease his congestion. I can still smell its acrid odor. they had a cream separator in the barn with a whine which still rings in my ears. It separated cream and skim milk from the whole milk. By it use, cream could be driven to the creamery only every three days instead of daily as for whole milk -- a timesaver for the family. Also, the resulting skim milk could be fed at once to the calves and pigs. In later years, the whining start-up of certain airplane engines has reminded me of that separator. Life was exciting on their farm also. On night I was awakened by a tapping noise on the window followed by a hushed voice: "Jack, Dick, get your guns -- dogs are in my sheep!" it was neighbor Coburn young. They wouldn't let me go -- "too young, might get hurt" -- I was really disappointed.
Their sons, Jack and Dick, were outstanding baseball players, a real pleasure to watch. Jack was such a good pitcher and had so much on the ball that he was thought to be the equal or better than the big league pitchers.
Their daughter Bernice Edsell now holds the record in living descendants -- seven children, thirty-two grandchildren, and forty-four great grandchildren. She is a wonderful person, capable, helpful to others, friendly to all, and a great church worker.

LeRaysville, June 5. - Mrs. Lilburn Barnes of Warren Center died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl Wilson, on Thursday at the age of 52 years. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Miss Eleanor Barnes and Mrs. Carl wilson; one son, Leonard; one grandson of Warren Center; three sisters, Mrs. Leo Edsell of Potterville, Mrs. Albert Dewing and Mrs. Louis Arnold of Warren Center; two brothers, Avery Manchester of Endicott and Andrew Manchester of Rome, RD.
The body was removed to the Pinnock Funeral Home at LeRaysville. Funeral services will be held Sunday 2:30 (DST) in the Warren Center Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Darling Cemetery of Potterville.

Warren Center Man Killen When Truck Falls Off Jack
Warren Center, Jan. 27 - Lilburn J. Barnes, 66, was killed, probably instantly, this afternoon about 4 o'clock when a truck underneath which he was working in his barn here crashed down on him, crushing his face and chest. Barnes had taken a front wheel off his truck and jacket it up to do some repair work. His wife, who found him pinned to the floor of the barn, said he had gone to the building to work on the vehicle about half an hour prior to hier discovering the tragedy.
Dr. Henry Brown of LeRaysville, who was called, said that death was probably instantaneious. Gerald Vickery, Bradford County coroner, did not visit the scene and released the body to the Pinock Funeral Home. Carlton Jones and other neighbors assisted Mrs. Barnes in lifting the truck from the body of the victim. They took him into his home and Dr. Brown, was summoned. Mr. Barnes was a retired farmer and a former IBM employee, leaving the latter place about a year ago after having worked there about 13 years. He was a member of Warren Center Grange.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Carl Wilson and Mrs. Clayton Canfield, both of Warren Center; a son, Leonard of Warren Center; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Halbert Brink of Le Raysville; two setpsons, Paul Watosn of Herrickville and Carl Watson of LeRaysville; five grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Grace Pratt and Mrs. Blanche Knapp, both of Binghamton, adn Mrs. Ernestine Haviland of New York City; two nieces, Mrs. Mavis White of Rocheser and Miss Eileen Knapp of Binghamton.
The body will be taken to the family home Tuesday afternoon. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Bernice Edsell Of North Orwell Taken by Death: Jan. 17, 1974
Mrs. Bernice D. Edsell, 77, of North Orwell, formerly of Potterville, died Thursday morning at Memorial Hospital Towanda, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Edsell was born May 30, 1896 in North Loop, Neb., daughter of the late Andrew P. and Jessie Cook Manchester. She was the widow of Leo E. Edsell who died in 1963. She was a member of the North Orwell Union Church and of the church auxiliary. Mrs. Edsell was a member of Rome Chapter No. 26 Order of the Eastern Star. She resided in Potterville for many years until the year of her husband's death at which time she established a home in North Orwell. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Claude Alyce Moore of North Orwell, Mrs. Leola Cafferty of Apalachin, N.Y., and Mrs. Lloyd (Marjorie) Hicks of LeRaysville; four sons, Boyd of towanda, Bruce of North Orwell, Moyle of Herrickville and Kent of North Orwell; a brother, Avery Manchester of Apalachin; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Dewing of Warren Center, 33 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren; seven nieces, newphews and cousins. Funeral and commital services will be held sunday at 2 P.M. from the Sutfin Funeral Chapel in Nichols. The Rev. Fred Albrecht, pastor of the North Orwell Union Church will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot in Darling Cemetery, Orwell Twp.

Manchester Ends Training
He Achieves Outstanding Record at Parris Island, S.C.
Nov. 1 - Leslie D. Manchester, son of Andrew D. Manchester, rome, Pa., has completed his recruit training at the U. S. Marine basic school here. Pvt. Manchester, who is a graduate of LeRaysville High School, achieved an outstanding record during his initial training, being awarded medals for his proficiency with the service rifle and with the hand grenade. The Bradford County Leatherneck was one of the few men in his platoon chosen to go to the U. S. Marine Sea School, where he will receive additional training for three months before being assigned to duty afloat. More and more young men with proper qualifications are turning to the great training schools of the U. S. Marine Corps to find higher education while serving their country.
