Special Services Unit
|
![]() |
This plaque is placed on the tombstone itself.
Note From Guest helping to identify it:
Joyce,
It's Special Service or Support Unit 635, U.S. Army Air Service, probably WWI era.
The USAAS (formed abt 1914) became the USAAC (Army Air Corps, abt 1940), USAAF (Army Air Forces, 1945), then USAF (US Air Force, 1947).
The person was assigned to an Army airfield support unit; the caduceus (sp.) of course is the medical field. I don't recognize the particular specialty designated by the shield, maybe a medical administration officer.
