MAY GET TRIP TO RUSSIA
Harold Strait was home from Camp Raritan Arsenal, Metuchen, N.J. the
first of the week for a brief visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo.
Strait. He has been at Camp Raritan for only a short time having
been sent to Camp Hancock, GA., where he was in the Ordnance Supply School
and Machine Gun School, until recently when he was brought north.
Thursday while on a hike with 45 others he was informed that the detachment
has been assigned for overseas duty, with a probable destination of Russia,
and that he was to act as clerk of the detachment. Harold has added
weight since entering the service, having gained 15 pounds and is feeling
fine.

A life long resident of Mansfield, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
Son of George L. and Anna W. Strait. Born August 12, 1898.
Member of the First Baptist Church, Mansfield.
Graduate of the Mansfield High School and Mansfield University.
Veteran - U.S. Army - WWI
Operated Straits Hardware in Mansfield. A family business from 1891
to 1971 when Harold retired.
Post Commander - Austin - Cox Post American Legion and past District
16 Commander.
Member F & AM Mansfield and it's secretary for 21 years. Deputy
Grand Master. 33rd Degree Mason since 1952.
President Tioga Chapter Appalachian Thruway Association and Treasurer
of State Association.
Intrepid fighter for the Appalachian Thruway for more than 20 years.
Director Route 15 Highway Association.
Clerk of Tioga County Draft Board.
Mansfield Kiwanis Club - 12 year perfect attendance.
Tioga County Historical Society.
Mansfield Chamber of Commerce - Honored with 50 year certificate.
