Reading a series of obituaries from a single cemetery, as they are presented here, is like reading the multi-generational history of a community. These people were the local populace at a particular time. The people buried here knew each other, were neighbors, relatives and school mates. They attended church together and engaged in "trade" or business.  All people are listed in alphabetic order by surname at BIRTH. Women identified by a married alias only and  for whom a birth surname can not be identified, are listed on the last page for the cemetery's obituaries.

MACK LEE CARL
Wellsboro Gazette - January 3, 1924
Lee Mack, 35 years old, of Elmira, formerly of Westfield, committed suicide last Saturday night in his rooms on Baldwin street, Elmira, by inhaling illuminating gas.  It is said the young man had been drinking heavily of late and had been out of work for some weeks, though he was not without money.  His mother, Mrs. Lillian Haxton, of Westfield, was notified by the Elmira authorities and hastened to that city to take charge of the remains.  According to the story as related by young Mack's landlady, he was about the house Friday evening and appeared in good spirits.  Sometime after midnight the landlady was frightened by a sudden noise on the floor above, which, as she said, sounded like a falling body.  Saturday morning when the further suspicion of the landlady was aroused and Mack's room was opened, he was found lying on the floor, fully dressed, with a gas tube, leading from one of the jets, in his mouth.  The gas was still turned on.  The deceased, who was a telegraph operator by profession, was a graduate of the Mansfield State Normal School.  A few months ago he suffered a paralytic stroke and it is believed that the brooding over his weakened physical condition finally drove him to take his own life.

PLANK Daniel Lovel
Wellsboro Agitator – April 13, 1886
I wish to correct a mistake that has been printed in some of the local papers. They say that Daniel Plank, who died at the residence of W. L. Plank, March 23d, was 76 years old.  His name was Dan Lovel Plank.  Had he lived till the 10th of June he would have been 75 years old.  His funeral was held at the house where he died, W. L. Plank’s, and his body was laid to rest in the Plank burying ground.  Rev. S. L. Bowler preached his funeral sermon, and the Baptist choir did the singing.
