Then and Now - Main Street Corner Canton Street Looking West
Comparison of the two 1908 versions. Early postcard manufacturers, many of whom were German, some American (This was published by Frank Nichols) liked to enhance the original photos to make the towns look a little better. Note that the tire marks and all else are identical assuring us that this is the same photo. Telephone poles & wires have been removed - this was pre-electric.  Color and attractive stripes added to awnings. A horse, wagon and man were painted in at the watering trough on the left corner.

1908 postcard compared to 2001 photo. Postcard is in both edited and unedited versions. Taken in front of Troy House location. 
What's different? Dirt roads are now paved. Residences on both sides are replaced. Brick Bldg on corner replaced by First Nat'l. Bank, Oliver Block gone. Cars replace horses for transportaion. 
What's the same? Building on left corner remains. Brick building housing Ben Franklin on right west of bank remains.
